    Nice vid for beginners!!! Love it!!
    However, at th-cam.com/video/JOjaMqtns6w/w-d-xo.html you say just pressing the "ALT" button will try to take you to altitude of 0... If that's really what happened to you, then that's a bug I believe.
    What "Should" happen when you press "ALT" in that scenario, is it should try to maintain the altitude you're currently at. Hence the name "Altitude Hold".
    Keep these vids coming! Great Job! 😎

      Thanks for the correction there - it wouldn't be one of my videos without a mistake or 2 🤣

      I like to turn on AP then HDG or NAV depending then climb manually to where I want then ALT. Then you just do ATC until you’re at your destination.

    • @jaymac7203
      @jaymac7203 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm pretty sure mine too tries to hit the ground like a dart if I hit ALT while it's at zero 🤔

    • @daneav8
      @daneav8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aces is correct. In real life whenever the autopilot is on and ALT is engaged the autopilot will level the aircraft at the current actual altitude...regardless of the Altitude Select window at top of altitude tape. If the sim is nose diving, its a bug.

    Huddison, thanks so much, again, for a very helpful, clearly presented video. As I have mentioned previously, I am one of those "newbies" you speak of. Not new to computers or programs, but MSFS 2020 is my first Flight Simulator ever, so it's a substantial learning curve for me.
    I've loved to fly, ever since I was 3 years of age. In 1948, at that age, my parents moved from Knoxville, Tennessee to Charlotte, North Carolina. They drove over there, and upon stopping for gas (or some other reason of which I'm not aware), they discovered that a serious polio outbreak was occurring in Charlotte. Instead of taking me to the house with them, they went to the airport, and put me on a Southern Airways DC-3 flying back to Knoxville, so I could stay with relatives until the polio outbreak passed. In 1948, all the Flight Attendants were attractive, mostly young, female Stewardesses. And, the ones on my flight were somehow taken with this 3 year-old boy, flying alone, and I received TLC unlike I've received since. They even took me to the cockpit, where I stayed with the pilots, until approach to Knoxville, and they pinned a pair of wings to my shirt. Of course, this could never happen in today's world, but they certainly made me a fan of flying!
    When MSFS 2020 arrived, I was so determined to try it that I built a computer to run it. Thanks again, for your clearly explained and well-presented videos!

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What an absolutely fascinating and moving story; it's every little boy's (and Big boy's) dream to be pampered by air stewardesses ;)

      Hi Mr. Andrew! That's a very interesting story about your 1st flight! I imagine that must of been a huge deal, scary as heck for a 3 year old trying to understand what's going on!! My 1st flight was when I was 5, that was back in 1962 and i got to go up to the cockpit with my brother a 1 younger than I and they gave us wings too. That was the last time I was in the cockpit of an Airliner until I was in my 40's and had to fly to Denver for work, my coworker was a former Naval Aviator who flew the A4 in Vietnam, he was stopped where he could look into the cockpit and said hey Don take a look in here? I looked into the cockpit and there was an attractive blonde lady with Pilot wings and uniform on and she smiled at me and asked me if I'd like to have a tour of her office, I remember saying heck yes then looking back at my coworker and telling him thanks! LOL It was an MD80, and even though I was in my 40's it was still quite a thrill for me to get to come in and check things out and visit with the Pilot!

    • @MrAndrew1000
      @MrAndrew1000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@donc9751 Hey, Don! It was a huge deal, probably the biggest deal in my young life to that point, but I was not afraid, at all. I was very excited. It was like a huge adventure for me, and I was always an adventurous young 'un. Other than visiting the cockpit for most of the flight, the only other significant thing I remember was just before takeoff, one of the pretty ladies took the barf bag out of the back of the seat in front of me, and explained its use. I was shocked, because I had not even thought of getting sick, I was having so much fun. We took off, and I never needed to use that bag, and I always wondered why people would get sick. LOL
      I'm very glad you got to enjoy similar treatment on your flight in 1962. I would guess that passenger visits to the flight deck are unheard of these days, with all the security precautions, but I did find this 2016 article, stating that such visits are still possible, although more restrictive than previously: onemileatatime.com/airplane-cockpit-visit/.
      Best Wishes!

      @@MrAndrew1000 It's great to have such great memories! Thank you for the link! I opened it up so I can save it. I was always the adventurous 1 in my family too, but I don't know how I'd of dealt with having my parents put me on a plane by myself lol! You were definitely a brave little guy!!! Besides how nice the Pilots and stewardesses treated me, my biggest memories are of looking down at how small houses and people looked after we took off and during landings. Ever since then I've always had to have a window seat lol some things never get old! Luckily, I never needed the bags either, it's a good thing, that might have taken away from a great experience. Thanks for sharing your story and for the link Mr. Andrew!!!

      Mr. Andrew, I am also new to flight simulators, at the age of 78. Being confined to home because of C19 I took up this hobby, and would be lost without the help of Huddison. I did fly DJI drones for a year but now the regulations are so strict it is no longer fun to fly, but FS2020 is a good substitute.

    Hi Huddison and thank you for posting this video! While I've been flying fight sims since the 80's (like Fighter Duel days on the commodore Amiga 500) and others, I let myself get so rusty after not doing them for quite awhile and recently got back into it when MSFS came out, actually awhile before that i was flying XP11, but only recently have the ability to really use autopilot while flying because I bought the Honeycombe Alpha yoke and Bravo throttle quadrant and it gives me the buttons and dials needed to use it so I'm starting basically from scratch. I fly VR and main issue has been manipulating the button's in cockpit with my hand controllers or those that aren't programmed into my throttle or yoke.
    I heard about your channel from my friend AcesDwn1 who has been a ton of help for me also! Cheers and thanks for all of your hard work putting out these videos!

    Great video Sir! At the beginning of the video it was mentioned that pressing the AP button is akin to turning On a computer. I have a suggestion that may help some newer folks better grasp that. It is probably better to think of pressing the AP button as literally handing the yoke over to the "Computer" or Autopilot to physically fly the aircraft. In other words pressing the AP button literally engages the auto pilot servos to mechanically manipulate the control surfaces. Because in reality, the Autopilot computer is technically already up and running as soon as the Avionics are fired up - no need to turn it on. It is just standing by in the background evidenced by the magenta "V-Bars" or Flight Director cue in the PFD. I hope that helps:) (BTW...the "V-Bars" or Flight Director command cue is showing what the autopilot would be doing if it were engaged. For example, before takeoff you can setup HDG, and a selected altitude to climb to, and a perhaps FLC at 80 its. Then once in the air - without engaging the autopilot - the Flight Director cue will show you what the autopilot would be doing. The importance of this, and inherent in the shape of it, is that you can hand fly your pitch bar right up into the Flight Director cue and nestle them together and it will guide you as you hand-guy the aircraft). Of note, whenever the autopilot is off and you are just hand flying for fun and not really concerned about any guidance, you can turn off the Flight Director Cue (which may be annoying) by pressing the "FD" button on the autopilot control panel.

      @@wk9647 if those mods do not show in the simulator after you have copied them into the community folder, you might have the wrong community folder. The actual community folder is pretty hidden and has a very convoluted name, plus it depends on whether you have the steam or the store version of the simulator.
      It is probably a good idea to use a free app like add on linker (available from flightsim.to).
      That will also make it much easier to add additional mods to the simulator and to turn them on or off at will, because the more you have loaded the longer your load time will be.

    When i do a flight plan as you did in the map,and go to fly it ,my POI is not in the flight plan only my departure airport and my arrival airport. So basically my Autopilot only follows the route to my arrival airport.The POI i added is not on the g1000 .Am i doing anything wrong ?

      I'll try and cover this in a video. I wonder if this is a bug with the Xbox version(S)? I'll try and get back to you soon.

      Hmm not sure what is going on there, I'll check out if it still works for me on the PC and get back to you (be patient, I still have to perform the update for the PC version ;)
