    Remember, if you push the stick forward, the houses get bigger. If you pull the stick back, they get smaller. That is ... unless you keep pulling the stick all the way back ... then they get bigger again.

    can you do a video covering ILS autopilot ? you briefly mentionned how to tunes the frequencies and use VOR navigation, but I'd like more details about how the autopilot also controls the glide slope to the runway. nice video!

    • @BradySkye

      I'll make a note of that and try to squeeze an ILS video in yes. I'll probably do one in the TBM 930.

    You should not use vertical speed on the auto pilot for a climb, you should be using a Flight level change.

    Well, I was looking for an IFR flight tutorial with a prop plane, and here it is. Sadly, it wasn't for me. It looked like another Garmin 1000 turorial, some handling of the plane. Ok, there was a tutorial about how to create an IFR flightplan, but that was all about IFR. From one second to another, several waypoints were skipped, and it followed another landing tutorial. Well, the title said Basic IFR .. that means here: only the flight plan.

      Some of the details though...I mean, if were working through ifr, we probably know the basics like autopilot. The ifr handbook clearly says, if you don't already know the plane, end now and go to that lesson first. (No actually handbook, but common sense.)
      Still, nice to see an ifr tutorial that uses the plane we're most likely to practice with, and not an Airbus or other airliner.

    good video but you can also play with the mixture to get the best fuel economy. "You want the most rpms" sounds like you don't understand how engines work. Anything other than takeoff and landing you want the lowest operational rpm to decrease wear on the engine and increase your fuel economy during flight.

  • @aeromillerMT
    @aeromillerMT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    a "best practice" is to always climb with FLC (flight level change) and climb via an airspeed - this mode has built in stall protection. VS is good for decent, but will stall the airplane if left unchecked, trying to maintain whatever climb rate you chose.

You have the cursor set in the cockpit in such a way that when you point to a single button on the control panel (heading, altitude, speed, throttle, etc.), numbers of speed knots or turning degrees or percentages next to the throttle lever can be seen next to the text. In the "general option/accessibility/user interface" I could not set the cursor option that you have. Please, if you can write how you set this option. I also noticed that this setup is in the videos of older msfs releases and seems to be absent on newer editions.

Every game session I would turn off at least one of the auto pilot controls just to get a feel for how a plane moves especially during bad weather. I can now fly and safely land planes without auto pilot. The hard part for me is using the brakes without tipping some of the planes over. I play on xbox so the controls are still hard to use.

    23:08 to know if the VOR are working use the TITS : Tune Identify Test Set
    so basically you set your NAV frequency, then you "listen" on the radio if you can hear the morse code (if not, it's out of range or out of service), then test if the CDI points at it and finally set your FD to follow it

    What is the main difference between VFR and IFR I know weather has a lot to do with it but I just don't really understand the concept if you're not using ILS or RNAV for IFR flights because you can just follow the GPS kind of like you can do for VFR?

    • @BradySkye
      @BradySkye  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      VFR, you fly the plane looking out the window. IFR, you fly the plane looking at your instruments. Also, VFR, you don't always have to have two-way radio communication when you're outside of an airspace. IFR, you will always be on the radio, connected to someone in a tower, and they will be "tracking" your flight. That's the basic difference in a nutshell.

  • @aviatortrucker6198
    @aviatortrucker6198 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The cross does not mean a localizer. That is a GPS approach the cross designates the final approach fix which is where you should lower your gear have your engine speed set your flap set and basically your approach angle maintained. One more thing your initial altitude as you say using the east west rule, but if you are IFR you will request your initial altitude and ATC will assign you an altitude regardless of your direction. You can request a change in altitude based-on winds aloft or turbulence.

    • @BradySkye

    Great tutorial. When adjusting mixture, the key indicator is Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) which is on the G1000 in this plane. If you don't have EGT, lean it until engine starts to lose power, then add mixture towards rich so that engine runs smooth. In real life, you don't want to be too lean, which will damage the engine.

    Great video. Thanks! Whenever I create a flight plan, and put it into Nav mode, the plane just flies straight ahead forever instead of following the GPS track. Any idea why?

    Are those yellow lines in the world map control area boundaries? How do you get those to show up?

      Email me with an example pic so I can better understand which lines you are referring to! Not sure if I know what you're referring to because I haven't been on the sim in a while. Will probably get back in the hot seat soon. theskyelounge@gmail.com

    Who decides all the gibberish names for the waypoints? Do they mean anything?

    • @BradySkye
      @BradySkye  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Someone probably with the FAA. They really don't mean anything but they do often times have to do with that location. There are STARS and SIDS that are named after certain things that go with that location. For example, Orlando could have some Disney themed STARS and SIDS. Whoever names them tries to have some fun with it. Some could mean something, others may not. They're just a way of identifying that fix.

    MSFS seems to only give RNAV03 option and not GPS03

    • @BradySkye
      @BradySkye  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s correct. To my knowledge RNAV is pretty much the same thing as GPS in this scenario in general aviation.

    The reason the plane wants to go to the left is because of the prop torque. It's completely normal

    Hey, you could've explained the FLC button that changes the aircraft's pitch to maintain a specific speed.

    • @BradySkye
      @BradySkye  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I should have mentioned that but I don't really use it in the 172. For larger aircraft, definitely.

    • @renatopiereck8549
      @renatopiereck8549 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @BradySkye it's very useful on a C172, set it to the best rate of climb, 76 knots, for most efficient climb, and clear obstacles with ease.

    You should not lean the mixture during takeoff.

    • @BradySkye
      @BradySkye  ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember someone else mentioning that as well. I don’t understand why you would want less rpm’s on takeoff. If you lean it you should get more power at this altitude. So why keep it rich? Thanks 🙏🏽

    Thanks for the tutorial. But can you tell me how to overcome inability to enter headings, altitude and other autopilot settings? WhenI touch the knobs with cursor they glow bright blue and settings cannot be entered.

      Look for the arrows to adjust the knobs. The center of the knob wont do anything. But that’s my guess without seeing what you’re seeing.

    So the menu button does work. If you click on your flight plan, then hit menu, it’ll give you several options. One of which deletes your flight plan. Still learning what else it works on.
