On my race mini I have a peice of sheet aluminium 3x4 inches. Pop riveted into the aft/inside of the grill, just in front of the dizzy. Have never failed on me even in the worst of weathers. Make sure though that it's really covering and not installed to far down.
Back in the 80s I swapped my Rough Rider with a mate for a 40 channel walkie talkie. My dad went mad when he found out and I had to swap back. That's the one in the video. The body got damaged when a neighbour accidentally rode over it on his bmx. That's when it last ran until Simon restored it. The herbie Sand Scorcher body is from a re-release kit I built a couple of years ago.

I've restored many cars from 30's Morris's to Triumph's from the 70's and my Capri MK3 which l shoehorned a 400ci Chevy V8 into, so l know how long it takes to restore a car. l did have a 1.7 Ital van once which l fitted a 3L ford V6 into, that was a lot of fun thrashing all the local boy racers with it.

The later minis (mid 80s on) had a plastic cover. I fitted my first mini (1977) with a marigold glove with the ht leads coming out of the fingers.

I bought my Sand Scorcher and painted it to match my real Baja Beetle, I used to park it on the roof at shows.
