  • We bought a set of wheels from ebay as they were cheap. We take the interior out and turn the Marina GT onto its side so we can scrape the underseal off and treat the rust.

    I was only joking about the clock,I drove a Marina Coupe 1.8 from the Midlands to Weymouth in1987 ,the car was originally from Wales and was a P reg great car bought for £250 sold 2 years later £250 .Great work not much rust in the floor ,I had a puncture one day jacked my Marina up, the car went up then came back down again the Car Jack went through the floor .....Great Videos .😊😊😊

    so enjoyed this video, the "team effort" to put the body shell onto it's side was good fun!! Just thought that a dip in a tank to remove the rust and underseal would be easier - maybe? Brave person(s) on finding mouse nests!! Best wishes from Lincolnshire!!

    That floor is mint. I'm jealous of the condition of that. I bought a 1970 viva hb 3 weeks ago, and that's in need of a serious wire wheeling to clear it up to see what we actually have. Seriously surprised and impressed with your marina.

    Great work as usual by everyone! I love watching these episodes and seeing the GT come together 😁
    When it comes to the wheels, I wasn't the biggest fan of minilites either but my dad made me appreciate them, especially when they have a deep dish. I ordered a set of 13x7 Superlites from John Brown Wheels a couple of years ago (looks similar to minilights), with an ET of -7. They fit really well and fill out the arches nicely. They can also make loads of other different styles with that offset, width and pcd. They're not that badly priced either.
    I know this might be a bit too late of a suggestion but worth considering if you guys don't want to run spacers on your current wheels 🙂

      @@crap_car no problem 😁
      I would look into some larger wheel studs too if I were you. The original 3/8 studs are a bit on the small side plus they could be a little longer to increase the thread engagement with alloy wheels as they are thicker than the original steel wheels. They seemed a little short on my Mk1 TC anyway, they might be a little longer on the GT because of the wheel trims. I would look for some 7/16 studs and nuts for a Capri or an Escort. I've also read somewhere that Rover Metro and Land Rover Freelander M12 studs should fit without any modification to the hubs, but make sure they also sit flat against them and don't interfere with the discs up front.
      This would be more for peace of mind than anything, but I'm a bit paranoid about stuff like that 😅

    • @crap_car
      @crap_car  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ExplodingDeagle we held off getting new studs until we knew what wheels we were getting. We will be getting longer ones.

    • @CCC_Matt
      @CCC_Matt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did buy some 7/16 studs a while ago for that very reason. Just haven't fitted them yet. Also custom wheels are just so expensive, we might go down that route. The 15" minilites were £175 and I already have some 55 profile tyres that will fit! So for now they will have to do. I like stag wheels too so keeping an eye out for some.

  • @fenderac3049
    @fenderac3049 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The Marina's had Triumph hubs and their wheel size hubs were carried over into MG Rover production days so in fact I think you'll find most MG Rover wheels will fit the Marina hubs. Certainly TR7 and Sprint wheels fitted and probably the 4 stud Stag style wheels fitted the MGB's. I've seen many TR7's fitted with Rover alloys. The 17" 11 spoke ZS low profile wheels would have looked good on the Marina.

    • @CCC_Matt
      @CCC_Matt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All modern rover wheels are the correct pcd that is true, however they are for fwd cars so the offset is all wrong, would need massive spacers which I don't like the idea of. And look stupid on a rear drive car. Just my thoughts

    I've seen worse floors, mate. Hey - I've only got to go down to my garage and open the door of my Mini to see worse floors! Not bad.....not 100% perfect, but nothing BL ever was. Wire wheel will sort that out and what it doesn't, Simon will weld a bit on. At least the floors are still THERE!
    Yeah - that factory underlay is like a sponge and holds water for ages. So does the sponge crap they put in their seats. Rear seat of my Stag got wet, so I took it out, squashed several litres of water out of it and it still took two months to dry. And we wondered why the bloody floors rusted out so quick, eh? Do yourselves a favour and use a modern underlay and sound deadener when you put her back together.
    Oh - and that mark on the hood liner? I reckon that's hair oil mixed with dust and tobacco smoke. There was a very similar one that would appear in my Dad's cars, although he never used hair oil. Dad was 6'3" and bald and always wore a toweling hat to soak up the sweat and oil that came out his pores during summer....and he used to smoke like a train. My Grandad used copious amounts of hair oil well into his 60s and the headliner in his cars also used to get the dark splotch in the same place. Either way, as it was my job to clean the cars, I had to figure out how to get it off both of them. I used to use dishwash detergent in a bucket of hot water and a scrubbing brush. Nowadays, we have stuff in bottles that should get rid of it easier, but if not, there's always the ol' Sunlight liquid in hot water and a half hour of scrubbing!
    All the best

    Part 14 was undoubtedly the best episode so far by miles, Simon concentrating on his workmanship was a delight to watch. Then part 15 spoils it with childish behaviour, silly jokes & laughing at each other is simply not entertaining. If you want to piss about, carry on losing viewers. If you concentrate on what you’re doing, you’ll double your viewers overnight. I have a Marina TC so I’m in your vids for the long run, but it’s tiresome at times. The concept you’ve got is spot on, honestly, spot on. Please don’t ruin it trying to be funny when clearly you’re not.

      Thank you for your comment. It is a very difficult balancing act. We had a comment on episode 14 saying 'This is excruciating'. We had a few more negative ones on the sill replacement video. Granted, not everyone likes the pissing about, but a lot of people do, so where do we draw the line? Do we do two videos each week? A serious one, and a 'this is what it's like on a Monday and Thursday night when we work on the car'. We've said before, that the messing around happens whether the cameras are filming or not. As for losing subscribers, here are the stats from the last two videos:
      Episode 14. 1 unsubscriber 40 subscribers
      Episode 15. 1 unsubscriber 30 subscribers
      When we 'fit' the drag tyres on, we had 0 unsubscribers and 54 subscribers. So did we get those subscribers because we were entertaining?
      But thanks again for your comment.
