Yes, I know I messed up talking about the antenna in the video, but imagine for a minute... you're a TH-camr reading a 7 page script of facts you had to research on your own, and had to sit for 49 minutes and record the commentary. Yes, some mistakes will be made. I have actually taken the time to re-make this video, and correct all of the errors I made. I got a mysterious call once in the 90s, sorry if I can't remember dates and times.
The caller asked if I had a 1970 442 oldsmobile and if I wanted to sell. I said yes and no.
Was so confused as to how this random caller even knew I had such a car. I said to him mine is not for sale but know a friend selling one just like it. Gave him the number. Turns out my friend sold his car and it became the number 2 car in Demolition Man movie. The car was originally blue but ended up a red w-30 clone for the movie. The number 1 car was the princess. The number 2 car seen action in the film. The number 3 car was a small block rusted bondo cutlass that got beat up and destroyed.
Look it up if anyone thinks I'm making this up
Edit : the edit is I still have my first car , the one I wouldn't sell. And it's a 1970 Olds 442

It drives the collectors nuts, but the reality of TV cars, especially back then, was that continuity issues abound. The 69 charger was at that time just an old car that fit what they needed for shots. If you look closely at the episodes, you can see differences throughout the series. Colors, shots with a headlight door up and no pushbar, interior differences, dents, all are found repeatedly. Thanks for the research, I enjoyed the video....

To me personally the most important General Lee sadly does not exist anymore. "Lee 3" was the actual first GL built. All of the pre production photos of the cast (the ones where the General has his doors open and there are no 01's on them) featured this car. It was wrecked while filming the first 5 episodes in Georgia, repaired, sent back to California, and survived into season 2 of the show when it was finally totaled in the episode "The Meeting" when it jumped over a creek and limo. If I was ever able to build a General Lee, that's the one I want to try to duplicate.

The single most important General Lee is very much still in existence. It gets loaned out, but typically resides in a museums. A little known place called Volo car museum in Volo, IL.
It is the original 'close-up' vehicle. Signed by the cast. Never registered with a handful of miles in the clock. It's perfection. Volo has many movie cars, when I went the original batman car, back to the future 2 De Lorean, original KITT, Fast and the Furious 1 Dodge, There was more. They had Carrol Shelbys own GT350 cabriolet for sale for $1.5mil back in 2005. it was designated 1 of 1! They specialize in movie vehicles and auctions. Amazing place.

The General owned by Volo is actually Lee 6, it was never screen used on Dukes but it is built to the exact specs as the five Generals used in the first 5 episodes. In my most recent video, I was there at Volo for the unveiling of their newest General Lee, which is known as the Stand Up General Lee. They bought Rich Sephtons General Lee Wheelstander and had it on display alongside Lee 6. I will be releasing a video detailing everything about Lee 6 very soon. Great details on the history of the General Lee cars. I watched the show as a young man home in Australia. I still tinker with full size cars to this day, currently a custom VW Beetle. I used rattle can orange on a 1/24 grey charger model several weeks ago. I don't have to be concerned the orange shade is accurate now. I purchased a set of general lee decals from the U.S. to make a model replica of the Lee. thanks good interesting info.

sometimes the interior was a dark brown because that was the velvuzet's used for some episodes they were really inconsistent. The engine the car had in the show was a 440 and in reality they had pretty much any engine that was thrown into the car. this information is coming from the lead mechanic on the show, Tom Sarmento. Now, mr Sarmento claims there was 1 stick shift car for the whole show. it was a 413 car with a 4 speed, the stunt guys hated that car.

Brother I love how you’re very knowledgeable about The Dukes Of Hazzard. That General Lee Lee 01 is owned now by Bubba Watson. The very first General Lee built by Warner Brother was Lee #03 it was a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T SE 440 Metallic Green with a vinyl tan roof. The car it was used from the first and second season. It was finally destroyed in the episode The Meeting when they jump over the creek. The most important General Lee is the Last R/T 440 car that was used in the Last 3 seasons for High Performance Driving and Burnouts!!! That was out of the last 17 that survived. That guy Bob Hartwig of Movies Machines owned it since 1991.Now Chris of Chromecars own it.The other engines that they used were 318 Small Blocks Mopar V8’s for the ski car they also used 383 Big blocks 2 and for barrel carburetor and the big block 440 Mopar V8’s which has a four barrel carburetor and aftermarket engines come with the 6 barrel carburetor. They destroyed 329 General Lee’s plus over 600 police cars.Theres another General Lee at the ending credits without the roll bar was used for Season 01 and Season 2 episode, called The Rustlers. That was restored by the Smith Brothers and it shown at SEMA 2011.Then there’s WBGL Car#28 From Season 4 to Season 7 that Cory Eubanks drove while filming. That’s the car in the 6th Season Enos Last Chance when Frank Scallion comes to get his revenge for testifying against him. When you see the truck lid fly open and the burn out after Daisy Bo And Luke are driving on the Warner Brothers Backlot is that car.Even when you see the car coming out of the Alleyway.I really love your videos and I would line to make some content with you someday pal!!! And you probably didn’t know this,But they use a single shot of nitrous on the jump cars!!!!! The General Lee’s paint code is called TNT Express!!!

VIDEO ERRORS ADDRESSED: I get it, I messed up on a few things in the video. The engine of the General Lee was identified only once throughout the franchise, and that was in the 2005 movie where they stated it was a 426 Hemi. That's why I chose that as the answer. Yes they never actually used them, but in the movies and TV Show that is the only time it was stated, so I chose it. Because its a cool engine, and the General Lee is the "fastest car in hazzard." And although some of you claim I messed up talking about the paint, I didnt. The stunt actors said the color was never exact for years, it wasnt until recently when they started claiming corvette flame red as the color. The reality of it is, the stunt men are just giving you the answer you want to hear. Its close, but there is no exact color of the car.

I actually owned a General Lee but had to sell it to survive after a nasty divorce. But I'm pretty sure in the pilot episode where they went to the junk yard for a car, the narrator said they found a 68 charger, but when it rolled out of Cooter's garage it was a 69 General Lee. It's been forever since I watched the series, but I'm sure the narrator said 68, so I always thought it was a blooper that was never caught in editing

There are a number of continuity errors in that TV series, lol. It was always a low budget production. Many TV shows of the era were riddled with continuity errors.
Remember, the picture quality of TV's was pretty low, then. Also, the largest screen sizes still tended to be smaller than the average screen size of today. And, too, black and white TV's were still widely used. So, paying attention to continuity wasn't quite as important, as it is now.
It's also worth noting that, over time, motion picture sets, whether full feature films or TV production, have evolved from what was essentially an actual stage set (as in what you may find while attending the performance of a play), to something that appears far more "true to life". As television is an art that requires continuous production, with different and more strenuous budgeting concerns, TV was much slower at catching up to standards set by Hollywood.

One thing you messes up was the paint color. On the TV show Graveyard cars they restored a General Lee. The owner of the shop that was doing the restoration got in contact with several people who built and painted the General Lee stunt cars, and it was agreed upon that at first three different colors were used two were factory GM colors one was a AMC color. For the first season or two there was no standard color by the third season the color was standardized to AMC Big Bad Orange a color used by AMC from 1968 to 1970 on specialized AMC Javelin and AMX cars

General Lee Chargers generally had (bad pun there) the motors the cars had when WB acquired them. 318s, 340s, 360s, 383s, & 440s.
    Lee #26, 32 & 35 were 68' Chargers,
Lee 26 was an R8 Burgundy Poly 68' Charger, (Corey Eubanks's favorite car) that particular car got damaged during filming, and a white charger gave up it's front clip (watch the Knight Rider Historians video, the engine bay is a combination of Alpine White and R8 Burgundy Poly.)
Lee 32 was a turquoise 68' with a 383, 3.23 suregrip rear end and white interior
Lee 35 (ski car) was a 68' Charger with power windows

When I was little probably about 1983 I saw a general Lee across the street and I broke into it and sat in there pretending I was driving my mom saw me and came out and tried to pull me out and I remember hanging on the steering wheel like nooooooo! As she was trying to spank my hands off the wheel! So if you have a general Lee and I'm sitting in it you better call my mom.

I would tend to agree with you on that one General Lee that’s more important than Lee 1. It lasted from at least season three to the end of the show. If you look at a dvd from a convention Travis Bell did from 2003 in Covington and Conyers Georgia, Tom Sarmento tells us that both automatic and manual transmissions were used on the show. For the close-ups, automatic center console all the way. For the jump cars, didn’t matter. There are a couple of scenes that the General Lee gets so high you see the underneath of the car. Very hard to tell but you can see some manual transmissions were used. No biggie. Great video overall. I’m definitely a fan of your channel. One last question for you. Everybody knows about the RadioShack teardrop antenna, Avanti Racer antenna and the Cobra 78X cb radio. Do you know what the other make and model CB radio was? I’ll give you a hint. It’s in the episode Big Brothers Duke from season 5.

A few years later at our towns Fall Festival, they had a car show and parade where a General Lee drove in. I managed to find it and have a look inside. Sure enough, there was the glove compartment with all the signatures written on it. Small world.

Hey Chunky Monkey! Great stuff as always on the General Lee and The Dukes of Hazzard! But I must correct 2 things for you. In one of the episodes in Georgia, the interior was black once. It may have been the episode where they drove around junk yard/with the Starsky/Hutch car! The engines were never 340's! The Charger never came with a 340 engine. A few were 318,mostly 383 engines. Very few 440's,due to your reasoning as well. The 383 was most preferred, due to its more HP than the sb 318. Here's another fun fact for ya..they took the ratchet/locking mechanism out of the emergency brake on the floor,so they could use it more fluently to do boot leg turns. Great stuff as usual tho man!! You remind me of myself as a young man, when it comes to the Dukes! Yee Haw!

Wasn't there an article that came out recently stating that the real color of the General Lee was a trucker orange called TNT Express. Number two, I was told that many of the cars had a 383 Magnum for the jumps (because the 383 was lightweight and wouldn't bring the nose down) and that there were a couple 440 cars for the chases because of the power. Number three, I prefer the black interior inside. Like for mine, I am planning on making the interior black. It just comes down to personal preference though. But one thing I am certainly not doing is taking the Rebel flag off! Long Live the General Lee 01!!! 🇺🇸

Thats according to Travis Bell, the biggest phony in the Dukes Community. He talks shit on everyone involved with Dukes and disses the General Lee frequently. For years he said he didnt wanna associate with it anymore, but ever since VinWiki started giving him attention and paying him to tell stories he's been all for talking about Dukes. Hes a joke, he claims that just because Lee 1 was TNT Express, that means all the cars were (which is just not true, they were simply just mixing paint and trying to get it as close as they could to the previous car they had painted). This was the 80s, and also a movie set. These cars were all built to get totalled, they didnt care that much about making the colors accurate, or even the cars accurate

My cousin fired up his dad's 1953 Ford pickup and drove it about 4 miles to the shooting sight. I question the validity of the claim that the Dixie Horn was discovered during the filming of "High Octane" simply because "One-Armed Bandits" was the first episode shot, and it features the horn. At the end of the episode, during Sheriff Roscoe's party, you can even see John Schneider manually engage the horn by reaching through the window.
The story I'd always heard was that Gy Waldron was "down south" somewhere scouting locations prior to filming, when the aforementioned El Camino blasted past them blaring the horn. The chased the fellow down and wound up paying the dude DOUBLE for the Horn they could've easily bought at JC Whitney for $50 bucks.
Oh and no 340's were ever used in any General Lee simply because.... Charger's could not come equipped with the 340 engine. Many were 318 cars, most were 383's and a few 440's.
There is a production note somewhere that told the "wrangling crew" to avoid 6-cylinder cars, because of the amount of time required to upgrade to a V8 and the associated running gear.
Yes, they did make 6-cylinder Chargers. Very few. I think for 1969 there were only something like 128 of them. But it was available 1968 through 1972 as a "Credit Option".

I know this show caused me to believe it was no big deal to run from the police, I grew up with that show. I ran the cops when I was 18 in 1984. I thought they wouldn't follow me into the woods, I was wrong. And I had a 79 Firebird against the tired Dodge 318 police cars of the time. He was pursuing me because I was racing another car. I was smoking him till I wet out my ignition from a puddle and the cop eventually caught up. I had a mad cop pointing a 9mm at me in the middle of the woods because I was a stupid18 year old kid. Getting a gun pointed at you by a mad cop is scary shit. I shook like a leaf whenever I got pulled over for years. That incident cost me thousands but it did scare me straight. Haven't had any police contact since.
