Always wanted a General Lee, but in this current atmosphere I would be cautious to drive it. I guarantee it would be keyed or vandalized in my area, because people are ignorant.
They never drive those cars always trailer, the becoming few and far between. Also doors being shut those dudes could never get in car LOL. Me as well as i'm not 22 anymore :)
I always thought Waylon was smart for telling the producers of the show that he would like to have a General Lee! While they couldn't give him a screen used car due to liability issues, this was as close as they could get! People often wonder why John or others who worked on the show didn't keep one of the Generals because when you see how valuable they are today, the idea of keeping one from the show seems like a no brainier, but in 1984 perhaps the people who worked on the show didn't see how valuable the surviving cars would eventually become...
These videos are awesome. Grew up making damn sure I was home on Friday night for the Dukes, which followed Family Feud.

Gary and this car reside in the town where I live. He had it at the gas station in town gassing it up before he loaded it up to take it to Bo’s extravaganza and I talked to him briefly, took some pictures and some video. He did a small burn out for me. Awesome to see this video.

yeah they did a nice job bringing it back to life cuz I remember there was an interview with Waylon in the 90s talking about the stuff that he had out there at his place in Arizona.
and they mentioned there was a general leave but it hadn't run in years it wasn't in running condition so I guess after a few years of driving and he never really kept it up..

I would love to bring mine to Duke fest. I'm restoring mine. It was a barn find. The old lady didn't know how much it was worth. I baught it for 3,000$ even with a bad motor. And seats torn. I've spent 2 years restoring with my kids teaching them everything I can about the show. They were under the impression it was racist. Wow
It’s just amazing when you think about it. Had the car in the dukes NOT been a 1969 Charger. Do you think the show would have been as successful? I can’t envision any other car on its place. They originally wanted to use a Chevelle SS but they couldn’t find enough of them in budget. In 1978 ‘69 Chargers were plentiful. The General became a person. A character on the show. It’s image is just so iconic now. It’s just a shame that 300 of them were destroyed.
