Awww thank you, I appreciate that! Unfortunately for me, I'd much rather be right than be happy, which is why I end up in situations like this haha
ugh, it's utterly crazy how entitled people can feel.
I experienced this myself, whenever I was wearing gender nonconforming outfits, some people would treat me like I was a clown, dressing up as an act to be gazed upon, consumed and made fun of, like I wanted to provoke their attention.
people treat me like I am somehow attacking them with my gender expression.
it's nice that you managed to remain so calm and collected.
it also doesnt end there really. a friend of my fiancè has cancer and lost her hair due to the therapy and she works in a book shop.
and some customers actually refuse to be served by her, because they are freaked out by her lack of hair ...
and the boss actually doesnt even side with her.
fucking madness!
thats why we have to stand together in solidarity, for people who want to exclude whomever they deem "not normal" there are literally no limits, whether you are seriously sick, disabled or simply wearing a skirt. what a world we live in ... but we have some say in it, never forget that!
This is one of the best examples I've seen of transphobia/queerphobia harming other demographics trying to mind their own business, thank you for sharing!

This seems like such an american experience, and the culture war bullshit definitely isnt helping lol. Most people where I live (asia) are really non confrontational they usually just look at you weird and talk behind your back. You handled that guy masterfully also, love the fit

I think he was not asking anything in bad faith, the average person is not even aware of gender identity in the first place for them sex and gender identity is the same thing because they never had to separate them, that's why he was confused and asking silly questions.

I'd say you are ok to ask (only) when it becomes relevant, not right off the bat. Like, hey, I really dig your vibe first and if it progresses into should we go together, then you can bring up making sure because of your preference. Make it about you, not doubting or "accusing" them. Be it for sexual preference or trying to start a (your own biological) family, if it's a deal breaker, that's fine. If you really like each other regardless, you can consider further discussion, rethinking your priorities or staying just friends or acquaintances maybe, or just wishing better luck next time. If you're really in a hurry, a compliment, statement of interest and preference, and accept a simple "no" (for what ever reason) in response. In that situation you really can't expect further answers.
So where is the transphobia? If you live outside societal norms you can not be offended when people ask questions or don’t understand. You have to be as accepting to them as you expect them to be to you!!!! FAKE OFFENSE!!! Don’t be so SENSITIVE!

And again if you go out and you are outside the norm you can’t be shocked when people are shocked or offended or confused. You chose to put yourself in that situation. Very adult is free to make those life choices but those choices WILL have consequences. To act like they won’t is plain idiocy!
I don't get it, to be honest. You were both wrong and right. You can identify as you like, and sex has nothing to do with it. It seems we are in an odd space where one group is demanding only identity usage and another only sex.
I'm not sure when it became offensive, and we do this to all animals, but at some point, even calling humans animals has become offensive as well.
So is it a problem? Sure, but does it have to be my or your problem? Probably not.
It becomes a problem when one group of people feels they can sexually harass another simply due to a differing gender identity
