The Benelli multi cylinder engines were built in the Moto Guzzi factory in Mandello del Lario, the factory assembly workers were used to building push rod operated V-twins, not SOHC multis so the build quality of the Benelli motors suffered from poor assembling. The Benelli factory in Pesaro handling the building of the 2-stroke Benelli and Moto Guzzi badged machines. Final assembly of the Benelli and MotoBi badged multis was done in the Pesaro factory too, there are a few MotoBi badged 900 Sei models in Spain. I have owned a 1980 Benelli 900 Sei Mk2 since 1986, in 2001 I gave it a total ground up rebuild.
Beautiful engines both. True works of art, but the only way to compare the sound, is to run them on a road course, or better yet, a track, and to use comparable mufflers or megaphone slip-on silencers. Or open pipes, but they sound best being ridden. Should toss a Kawasaki KZ 1300 also. The three great straight sixes. Great video, thank you. The Sei doesn't get as much credit as it deserves!

These are italians grannies! They come from a land callled Emilia-Romagna. Just to let you know it's where have born Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Benelli, Cadalora, Capirossi, Rossi, Lucchinelli and tons of others. In any private garage there are treasures that worth a visit. Instead I come from Bergamo the land of Agostini and Ubbiali....that is in Lombardia where Alfa Romeo and Guzzi come from!
They both sound better than most bikes out there....The Benelli had an unfair advantage of a 6 kit megaphone vs a cobbled together setup on the Honda. Anyway you slice it they sound fantastic.
Must be some big money manufacturer sponsorship with the sweet uniform of the head mechanic. The worst dressed guy is always the guy who has the real brains. I personally think the Honda sounded better WITH the full exhaust. But the both sound the best about a mile away ,ripping down the road. I live about 1 1/2 miles from the interstate/ motorway and I just have to stop what ever I'm doing and listen. When the wife and I are together, she knows everything stops when I hear a bike getting after it. A real bike ( not a Harley) or a proper bike on the other side of the pond. Thanks for the video.
I had a Benelli 6 back in the eighties. Worst bike I ever had. The build quality was dreadful. Nearly all the allen bolts rounded off when removed. The big ends went after 5000 miles. Replaced under warranty. Great care needed there. The electrics and the switchgear were a joke. However it handled like a dream and the brakes were superb. Never again though.
Queste moto devono essere apprezzate per la loro epoca, ovviamente un confronto con moto più moderne non ha senso. In questo caso è molto importante notare il lavoro che è stato eseguito per trasformarle in versione "da corsa", una operazione che ha richiesto anni di lavoro da parte di un gruppo di ex meccanici con esperienza lavorativa nel mondo delle corse F1. Ora ogni volta che vengono portate a "rombare" in qualche evento ricevono moltissimi complimenti, essendo due esemplari unici in questo genere.

La Honda ha una cilindrata più elevata e qualche CV in più , ma come sound è meglio la Benelli ! Io ne ho avute due : una con sei scarichi e una col sei in uno !
That Benelli is a bad sounding machine!!!!! I could only hope to have one one day. I’ve seen a few CBX for sale near me recently and they were selling for between $10,000 $14,000
