    The funniest thing is when you get a new gaming laptop and play a game that is 10+ years old and ran perfectly fine on your old one. New games are rarely as good as the old ones.

      The worst thing is playing a retro game(typically 15+ years) and they no longer work on your new system cause of compatibility issues without mods and fixes

    • @brxan3096

      Same here with my 3050Ti Legion 5. I mostly play older games & e sports titles. It runs games like RDR 2 & God of War fairly well at med-high settings since I get around 60-75 fps & on most esports titles I play are always over 144fps since I play those at lower settings. One thing I've stopped doing that he mentioned was the driver updates, specifically graphics drivers. I recently had a weird issue like 2 months ago when I'd been updating drivers almost as soon as they got released & had some random artifacts showing up on my display after that update(i think it was a January update). I reverted my drivers & the issue went away & after reading through a few threads on different platforms I realised it's not always the best thing to download some of the graphics drivers too soon especially in my case where I don't typically play any of the newer games.

I'm currently playing Horizon Forbidden west with 50+ FPS with medium yo high settings. Such a BEASTLY laptop to this day! I'm finally getting ready to upgrade though, picking up the Strix 16 this month. Found one with the 4060 and 13650HX at a decent price.

    • @washuai

      Same, 1660 Ti, different brand. Just look what's still playable on a Steam Deck. In a way, mass gaming is still back with the venerable 1060 era and the 1660 Ti has more grunt than that. Allegedly things have moved on to 3060, but until mass hits at least 1080p 60fps Ray Tracing Ultra Cyberpunk 2077, the needle has barely moved. I thought we'd at least be 4k 120 fps mid by now. I feel like I'll be dead before that's mass adopted affordable, things are so slow.

    For me, tip 1 depends on the situation. Sometimes, new updates can cause errors and be more unstable than the old version. For example, I updated to the latest GPU driver last March and couldn’t share my screen via Discord and OBS. I didn’t know where the problem originated until I realized it was due to the update and rolled back the GPU driver.

I installed my pads literally yesterday and my temps dropped by +20c, and that is before they "settled" (they gain maximum efficiency after a couple of cycles). Switched the HDD to an SSD a few years ago and upped the ram to 16gb and the old i7 can still manage office work and multi-tasking, and some indie games like Dave the Diver and Noita. Might upgrade in a year or two, but with a powerful desktop for gaming I don't try to make the laptop do any work it's not capable of handling. Crazy how long a laptop can last with decent hardware and maintenance.

      @soumyachakraborty4150 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Are rest of the specs a 1:1 match? You are not purchasing just the processor, Lenovo might have cut corners slightly here and there. 13th and 14th gen - there's hardly any difference. Also consider that 14900 HX is not comparable to 13900HX, it's more of a 13980 hx competition or upgrade.

    • @soumyachakraborty4150
      @soumyachakraborty4150 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I compared both in my area. Looks like they forgot to update the 13th gen pricing. They are charging more for 4070, same ssd, same ram on gen8 vs gen9. I configured a i9 14900hx, 32gb, 1tb SSD, 4zone RGB, 4070 and 240hz 100% sRGB display vs Ryzen 7 7745HX, 32gb ram, 1tb SSD, 4zone RGB, 4070, 240 hz 100% sRGB display.

    • @gc4924
      @gc4924 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, its like saying blowing air at a fan will damage a fan - the air will just go with the flow of the moving fans in your laptop. If your laptop's fan are not moving then that is a different story! For example when I clean my laptop fans I make sure to secure the fan in place with a tooth pick then shoot air into it to clear dust.

    I would also recommend to run it with as low power limits and temps as you can. Lots of recent laptops simply die because their power delivery components overheat. Running you cpu/gpu at 85-90C is not good as well. It is way harder to find a working 5-10yo gaming laptop with high-end cpu/gpu because of that. Don't waste power, limit fps if you don't need it to render at 200 fps, boost fan and etc.

    My MSI GT60 is more than 10 years old. 2013. GTX 780M Survived windows 8 to 8.1 to 10 different major updates. A world tour on plane, trips on motorcycle and some party. Upgraded ssd's then ram with a total of 3 ssd and 1 hdd witch all working fine.
    But it seems i've been victim of programed obsolescence with the GPU die same year of the end of Nvidia Driver support in 2019. Only 6 years after buy and driver support.
    How strangely coincidental it is. Never less. Suceed to have some time on the integrated Intel graphic. Witch was able to Run Battelfront 2 in Multiplayer with some tweaks below minimum settings. Amazed "spare wheel" then i bought aliexpress a gpu then new compatible battery in 2020 just before covid started. Now in 2024 it runs fine and i did the second repast CPU and GPU. Ssd is at 84% life.
    For the dust you have to live in a clean regulated vaccumed place, far from carpet base floor and your fan wont get as dirty as you may think. I just cleaned mine twice in 10 years and it wasn't really dusty.

Great engineers from Lenovo made two SKUs for cooling system, with removable fans (which Jarod showed) and with non-removable fans (guess which SKU is in my laptop). So good luck with removing lint from fans if you as lucky as me. Moreover, due to bad design, after a while, motherboard is bending slightly because of pressure from cooling solution, so I guess that why 1 ddr channel is not working right now for me and I need to take it to the repair with proper equipment and brave repairman (look for the process to re-solder CPU in Lenovo, because of their compound it's a mess, sometimes instead of just re-solder repair technicians just grind the processor down

    Number one should be: don't buy a Razer laptop. I regret buying one. I had a spicy pillow within a year and a half, and I think I'm about to have another. The case while feels very nice, and is made well... Is just way too thin to dissipate heat well enough, and on top of that the bios is hard locked, you can't undervolt the CPU.

      The main problem of the Razer Blades they face the same problem as MacBook, the chassis are very thin there's not much room for heat to dissipate so the aluminum frame absorb most of the heat
