i had the pleasure to meet and talk to Mr Darrow, such a polite and funny guy... He told me he designed the machines world part of the first Matrix movie which blew my mind..also signed my Hard boiled copy and complimented my little son! sorry for my english guys.. a comic nerd from italy

It makes no sense how amazing talented Geof Darrow is. I met him once at a con, he was super humble - self deprecating even.
His work gives me the same feeling Chris Ware's does, like, "How...?"

My first exposure to Geof Darrow was the cartoon of Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot. I was obsessed with the robots in that. I was in middle school when it was airing. The cartoon is great, visually, although not as detailed as his comic art. Also loved The Matrix and at some point it clicked that these things were coming from the same artist!
The "Where's Waldo" style that Darrow is so great at is called wimmelbilder, btw.

I remember it was turned into a Saturday morning cartoon back in the late 1990s on FoxKids.

"It's almost an Animation technique.." Most people forget that Darrow began his career in Animation in the very early 1980's, working for Hanna-Barbera and Filmation.. The STRANGERS #2 fanzine has a very good recent interview with Geof, where he really outlines those experiences..

Couple years ago at SDCC Geof was selling hardcovers of Shaolin Cowboy, a print, and an original inked sketch of your choice for like 80 smackers. I felt like I was robbing the dude. Every line a gem.

So nice that you guys remembered to mention Seth Fisher, I mean I am from Finland and frankly I missed everything he ever did, expect what can be found online.

I loved watching the animated series as a kid, just wish it could have carry on longer.

I love this book so much. I wish we got more of this kind of stuff from Miller. The highlight of the 90s comics for me was the surge of nostalgia for 50s and 60s comicdom. Rusty and the big guy fits right in alongside 1963, Big Bang, Astro City, Nexus, and Power of Shazam.

This was an HD blu-ray comic before HD blu-ray was even a thing.

Not sure if Darrow works this way on every project. When I met him at a show years ago, he had art for sale. He drew each panel separately, and then inked each panel on a vellum overlay. Consequently, you could buy a Darrow pencil drawing of a panel, or an ink drawing of a panel, or both. Fascinating process.

agree! watched it with my son last year for the first time. We both loved it. Way better animation than most cartoons, and really maintains the Darrow feel, even if it's far less detailed. It must have cost a fortune to produce.

A masterpiece! But I prefer Dave Stewart's colouring so much more. In my opinion, it complements and emphasises Darrow's artwork way better

I'd love to see you guys follow up with the King Sized Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot to luxuriate over the black and white art...or maybe pull out the Dave Stewart colored edition to compare!

Time was not kind to my copies. Their size meant I had to stuff them down the side of a magazine size box. I had no idea this became a TV show. I might invest in one of those devices for flattening old comics and restore them to their original glory.

I love this guy, I recently manage to get the Library editions of his Shaolin’ Cow-boy (3 volumes) and the Hardboiled one, and here in Europe, very lucky I think. But cannot find the Rusty one you guys are going through today, very frustrating ;-) Do you know if he is working on something those day, those amazing guys always seem to disappear after a while … I want more !!!

Could you guy review the Metabarons Charest unfinished Comic he started while he was in France, I met him there at Deesse Editions in Paris shortly before he started that project, he drew a T-Rex crushing a Car for me, very nice guy, he’s also a rare bird today, but that book is when he decided to be an illustrator, and colored his own work for the first time, hence why he never finished, he was never satisfied with his own colorings and the project died after like 10 years and something like a dozen pages only, quite some background story there for a video, cheers.
