    this style was Marvel's house style for a while. Photo realistic artists like Hitch, David Finch, Alex Maleev, John Cassaday defined the Marvel look from 2000-2008ish

      @@mattsom3915 that was in the 90s. this is in like 2000s to 2010s, when marvel basically made the photo realistic art their representative style. I felt like, unlike DC, marvel has always followed the comic trends (which were hit or miss). in the 90s, when Image comics boomed into popularity, they literally hired every single free lance artists from Image, including Jim Lee and Liefeld and gave them their household stuff like Captain America or Fantastic Four to reboot them

That is to say, talking more about the complexities of the art style, the writers, and highlighting some of the great creators, not just talking as much about specific characters. Hitch’s art is the only reason I read The Ultimates. In fact, I think Millar owes a lot of his financial success to Hitch. It wasn’t the writing that did it.

    • @illwill1991
      @illwill1991 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Millar to Marvel editorial: "ok, so here's my idea for ultimate captain america. There's really only 1 thing that makes cap interesting. That is the fact that he's basically the exact opposite of what you'd expect him to be. If you told someone who has never read a comic before, "there is this superhero called captain america, who is a super soldier from ww2 and wears an american flag as his costume." That person would expect that character to think and act a certain way. What makes 616 cap interesting is that the way he actually thinks and acts is the exact opposite of what that person expects. My idea for ultimate cap... is to basically not do any of that. Instead of subverting those expectations like 616 cap does, we're gonna meet those expectations. We'll turn him into a nationalistic, jingoistic, right-wing guy who hates immigrants, is sorta kinda probably racist and says things like "america! Love it or leave it!" And calls french fries, freedom fries. I never understood why 616 cap was so liberal anyway. He's old, and to me, old means right-wing. I'm not gonna take the time to look up pre ww2 labor movements or the rise in very liberal almost dare I say socialist beliefs amongst working class americans during the depression. It's so much easier to just make him right-wing because I'm too lazy to learn what an FDR social democrat actually is."
      Marvel editorial: "Uh, OK. Sure. Whatever."

      Tevya Smolka guess ur right but Ultimate universe was place were all hope die. First even the heroes u think would be “nice” became warlords (kitty and Jean). Then their universe ended🤡🤡🤡. But with it back, hopefully we’ll get new stories. Oh and I forgot a consistently good character Miles. Mabey that’s why people grew on him, in a universe where Reed Richards becomes a mad man and a seemingly innocent girl named kitty becomes a secessionist warlord, Miles tried to hold on to what it met to be a “good person”

The book is easily one of the best you'll find these days, with stellar art and an amazing story that cuts most of the confusion surrounding the character.
