This was how I first read the Elektra Saga as well. While I definitely preferred the structure of the original comics when I got the trades years later, this is still a great piece of work in its own right. It works better than it should given all the cut and pasting to rearrange the story into chronological order. I also appreciate the way that you guys point out how much better old comics look on newsprint vs the glossy reprints. I genuinely thought I was the only person who felt that way until I discovered this channel.

Back in the 70's Denny O'Neil brought in a lot of the same elements (including the bad girl love interest) when he created the League of Assassins in Batman. He was also Miller's editor on Daredevil.

When I was young, Elektra was published B&W in that time communistic Poland. It was a story with the Daredevil, I do not remember even which volume it was (probably random one)...No matter, 25 y later, I still remember the iconic character, her "sensei" which she had to kill without knowing, being uprised in hidden secret base she was kept for many years... I did not know it was published actually in color, thanks for "reminding" me about this amazing comic series...warm greetings from Norway. Cheers

This was also my first read of the story even though I was already familiar with it from other friends that had read the original. I loved these mid-80s 64-page reprints of classic stories, usually called Special Editions, which were often the only way to read some of the classic tales before you had Omnis and Epic Collections. I still see the Special Editions in the LCS dollar bins and grab them whenever I see them.

Back sometime I think in the early 80's, they showed "The Godfather Saga" on network television over a couple nights. They took The Godfather and The Godfather Part II and chopped them up, added a few deleted scenes, and re-edited everything into chronological order. This reminds me of that. Looks like they took all of the Elektra related material and chopped it up and put it into chronological order. I wonder - did Frank Miller have a say in it?
(I took a look at my re-print of Daredevil 168 to compare - basically, those first few pages on "The Electra Saga" were all off by 1/3 of a page. So, that panel at the bottom of the page that you said looked like it was out of a Charlton comic (at 6:12) was originally the FIRST panel at the top of the page.)

I have these comics! Man, these guys really make me proud of my collection. I didn't actually know that it was a recutting of Daredevil issues to just have the Elektra story in it, but they clearly did a lot of work to make it all fit and read as beautifully as they did.

Thanks! I have the four part series and always refer back to it for just the Elektra/Sand Sarif story.

Based on the Red Room pitch, I assume this must have been sitting in the can for a while 😅 Regardless, any new CK content is always bringing a smile.

I think this is the Neal Adams/Frank Miller conversation Ed’s referring to: th-cam.com/video/SZ7FAIyJffY/w-d-xo.html

I have the TPB of this (on glossy paper). I think these single issues on rougher paper look much better. Not really a fan of the whole cut and paste and shuffle job to make it a graphic novel though...
