UPDATE....This video is great! Great job Chelsz! You're super thorough and do every step! Here's a little shortcut for anyone that's going to attempt this. I just replaced rear speakers on a 95' today 9/15/21. When you get to 8:51 in the this video stop! You do not have to pull the entire bottom trim piece off or remove the entire rear pillar plastic. You also don't need to pull the rear seat belt up and out of the plastic. Skip to 10:46 and remove the front seatbelt and the phillips head screw in the hanger hook. Now reach up to the top back corner of that plastic trim and start popping that pillar plastic off from the top down. Once you get it popped out about half way down you're good. You can flex that plastic enough to get behind it, remove the old speaker, and put the new one in. DON'T DO ANY OF THIS (especially bending the plastic) WHEN IT'S COLD. You want the temperature to be at least 70 degrees otherwise all of this plastic will shatter in your hands.
This is the best video on how to take down the rear interior of these trucks not just the best video on how to remove the speakers! I keep coming back to this particular video! Thank you content creator!
Absolutely the best video for changing the rear speakers in my 1994 GMC Sierra. I watched a half a dozen other videos and none came close to the simplicity of instructions, the quality of camera (both lighting and angles) use. Thank you for taking the time to make this video, it was hands down a tremendous help!
Amazing job. You made it look easy and thank you for the detailed instructions. I'm getting ready to do this to my truck which I inherited from my dad and want to do the best job I can.
I have a 1999 LS 4X4 Z71 XCAB 3 DOOR chevy pickup. I'm getting this same thing done including all the front doors and stereo replacement in the dash. You did good work on this interior and speaker replacement..nice to see a lady doing something like this. It ain't hard, it's just tedious.
Wow I just watched your video and I must say that your really good at figuring out how all of that comes apart. I have a 98 GMC SIERRA 1500 and it needs them replaced. How I wish you lived closer to me I would definitely pay you to replace them for myself. Great video Thanks
Chelsz, thank you so much for this! I have a 96 chevy silverado stepside extended cab and I’m in the process of replacing the stereo and speakers. The front speakers are no problem but the rear speakers are in a world of it’s own. After finding out all that you have to do just to get to the speakers, I was considering just cutting the panel at the speaker, replacing the speaker and installing a speaker grill over the cut-out. I’m so glad I found this, you make it looks so easy!!!!
Yeah, I saw that you could cut it out but I much prefer to keep my interior looking stock. I'm glad I could help! Overall it wasn't too bad of a job just a bit time consuming.
Thank you for making this video and bravely going into this job that many would have not. I do enjoy seeing more people being Mechanically inclined and outside working for themselves for a change. You have renewed my hope for humanity at least a little bit. Tippical Chevrolet making things way too complicated than they need to be and using cheap plastic to make the panel's. I don't think I want to risk breaking my panel's so I think I will just use a Dremel tool with cutting wheel and cut the hole out where the speaker is and finish the job that Chevy half-assed and make a "Removable Panel" to change the speaker. because I am not going through this every time I have to or want to change the speaker's out.
Finally someone did that video in details. Trickiest things are those back glass moldings top and bottom ones. This video posted in good time as I'm in process of assembling back those trims. Thanks alot lady from overseas 👍👌
Hey Chelsz, I am impressed as well! I was going along pretty good until a point and thought I would check out utube...glad I did because your video is extreamly helpful! I love to see women take on projects like this and not afraid to say you helped me a lot! I'm guessing you have a father or grandfather who showed you skills at a young age? It just appears as though. Thanks Again!!
Thank you for the video worked great on my 93 k1500. 30 year old plastic and pretty much everything came apart without breaking the clips other then the middle roof panel. Broke one of the tabs on the drivers side trying to bend it like you showed but it felt like the whole piece wanted to snap in half. But it still went back up okay. I may try and figure out a way to repair it in the future. Ill say everything came apart a lot better then i expected it would.
Thank god you made this video, I made one on my iPhone last year but wasn’t convenient like a good camera lol, I have a GoPro now but I’m glad anyways that someone created a video on this topic because I really didn’t want to take my dad’s truck apart again lol. I remember trying to look for videos like this but the instructions weren’t so clear and didn’t really show the process like you did. I had to partially rely on 10 yr old videos that weren’t the best haha.
lol yeah, when I was looking as well I didn't find much so figured while I was doing it I may as well help others. It's wild how many steps are involved just to replace some speakers.
Thank you so much for this video. You definitely made it look easy. To tell you the truth my 98 extended cab has the third door. It does look intimidating to remove the rear seat and the panels to replace the speakers.
Outstanding! Clean install that saved me a little time figuring out the location of the fasteni I'm not just giving accolades because truck speakers got installed a girl but she definitely broke the helpless girl stereotype.
Awesome job. As I was watching I couldn’t help but think if there is a way to cut out that speaker cover so that the next you need to replace them you can just take off a cover instead of all that paneling! I might need to run that by my friend with a 3-d printer and see what we can do. Also is your front seat a bench seat? Because I really like the center console.
I ended up using an oscillating saw and cutting a 4x6 rectangle out. Then I bought a 10 dollar pair of 5x7 speaker grills off Amazon. Doesn't look bad.
Thanks and I know it seems crazy you have to remove everything....some people just cut the panel and do an opening to access the rear speakers. I don’t like hacking my interior up though.
Great showcase, lower seat belt helps if removed, and lastly top piece is first and last to remove. All else a ok, oh those speakers are great entry level, all that work requires some top of the line or modified larger.
Thanks for the video. One important thing I was trying to seeis where the fastner slots were in the body, had todo alittle stop/start. Would have been nice to see a snapshotof the backside if the panel ;) I try and use tools (custom made if necessary) to pull panels of at there fastner point, especially on older vehicles and large panels, as plastics getbrittle. Ok, so what kind of camera are you using ? Has a wide lens. And regarding your cleaner... Try Folex. You can find it in the cleaner section, or, in thd carpet dept of Home Depot/Lowes. If your getting the large 1 Gal, I like to fill my spray bottle about a 1/3, then water rest of the way. Shake easy. If you have really cdirty areas, then fill to 1/2, rest with water. Give it 5-10 minutes to breakup dirt soil, then blot to pull your stains out, lightly rubif hou have to. Some things require 2nd application, depending on how you clean. Rotate your cloth as well. So... How do those Kickers sound? I just did my head unit (Sony MEX-N5300BT... will tackle the speakers next month. Rockford Fosgate makes a 4x6 that ive choosen for the swap-out. Lastly, did you make a video for the front speakers? Thx.
My 1 comp 12 from skar making everything from my back glass to my tool box in the bed shaking and make everything loose in the cab thanks for the info for a k2500
When removing panel under window pull outwards from the bottom then Snap upwards to release the top ones. Do not remove the top panel. The top section of side panel slides out from top panel not vice versa.
I wish I knew this years ago when I did stereo installs on these trucks. that top panel doesn't even need to come out. rear seat, back under window panel, then the side panels. You only have to pull that upper middle panel if you're getting the headliner out. I have most of my interior out on my 97 ecsb sierra with a third door right but it was to do the headliner. Probably throw some new speakers in while the stuff is out. My truck still has all the original OEM speakers.
I just bought a '97 K1500 extended cab and I actually thought there were no rear speakers because I don't get sound out of them at all. There's an aftermarket head unit installed so now I need to see if it was installed correctly.
The person who owned mine before me replaced the rear window and got the glue all over the trim and made it impossible to get off. It ended up breaking in places
Subbed, great job. I'm actually trying to find replacing the rear side window on a 96. but such a complete vid. Hopefully I'll find something where I can get to the window Without doing all the back panels. Seat and front edge of the side would be AWESOME
On the first panel you took out that runs along the rear glass, that one is designed to remove top clips first then bottom. So they won't break. Okay now to my dirty old man observations: I want Chelsz channel to be a success. There is no question that on videos like this that her viewing audience would increase exponentially with the occasional, subtle, quick and above all accidental crotch shot. {"To lay the speaker wires we have to pull up the carpet like this. Now as you can see I shave but you get the point. The carpet must come up."} That is a channel whose viewing audience would go through the roof.
After you take the piece in the middle and the piece on the top that go across the truck off.....if you unscrewed the phillip's head screw in the hanger above the window....do you think you could pull down and flex the plastic pillar enough to get the speaker out without having to remove all the trim plastic?
I don't think being female has anything to do with it. Anyone can do this job with common hand tools, it is not that difficult it is Just a bit time consuming.

Good. Video looks I will be cutting my panel around the speaker to replace it and screw the speaker grill on over the cut panel fast easy. Good video but I don’t have the patience for all that
Are the stock speaker connectors on the rear different than the front door 6 1/2 speakers?? When you showed the connector on the kicker speaker it was flat and large
Michael - how’d the replacement end up going? I have the 3rd door on my 97 k1500 and am thinking about attempting a rear-speaker replacement, a lot of disassembly though....
Thanks im just doing my speakers ,....but my hands are to big i broke a few tabs . Would you know the rear seat belt angle on your truck is it 60/90 ? 90/90?_____-
Excellent job with the video Chelsz! I have one question though, is there a point in the disassembly when the rear speaker wires are exposed in the rear area? I was considering removing the rear seat permanently for tool storage and adding an additional external box speaker on each side. Thanks
I have had 3 of these extended cab Chevy trucks never attempted rear speaker change....now i no why leave it to Chevrolet to have u taking ur whole vehicle apart for a speaker change lol...still a chevy gal through and through though!
Ugh great video but I cringed at the audio being funky thank you I’ve had my obs for a year now and even have the speakers just didn’t know where to start taking stuff apart thank you.
Great video, very helpful. But that's way too much work. I think I would cut them out ,( very carefully) then with a little customizing, cover the hole with maybe I peice of the same molding from a junkyard?? Bless you ,.
I mean you could definitely do that. I just don't like the look of it from everyone I saw cutting the speakers out online. I much prefer to keep my interior as stock as possible. It wasn't too bad but it is time consuming. lol
Oh ya definitely. The only reason I would and will take the "easy way" is because you take a big chance on braking those tabs, which I've done on a different truck, but you only had 1? Those panels are not cheap....
Crutchfield gives the to you for free when you buy speakers from them. It’s a great company, I have no affiliation with them other than I use them a lot personally.

Thanks Chels. You saved me from breaking the tabs off of the rear panel behind the seat.

Thanks for your help homie. Made my audio upgrade (turned deep cleaning lol) in my Cheyenne come along alot smoother
This is the best video on removing the rear speakers I have found, thank you Chelsz!

I am so impressed on how easy you made this look!! Thank you for this video. I will now attempt to do my rear speakers. You did an awesome job.
Thanks! It really wasn't too bad, it just took a little time. lol
A trick : you can watch movies on flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching a lot of movies lately.
@Logan Thomas yup, have been watching on flixzone for since november myself =)
Very descriptive in instructions, had my obs for months & just now know how to remove all of this

That was a good job. After watching I think I'm going to cut the plastic and metal to fit bigger speakers.
I'm cutting the metal and the plastic to fit 6.5 speakers.
@georgeferrer23 did you guys do that? Howd it go? I was thinking I'd do the same
Been putting this off for so long
About to get this one alongside a thorough cleaning 😬

No wonder why the previous owner only replaced the dash speakers on my 94 lol holy fuck
😂 😂
Can't wait to get mine Monday but after watching this ill probably opt for a drimel and speaker grills color matched to interior lol
This was super helpful, thank you for taking us on this journey with you!

I feel that. It's so crazy you have to do this much work for 2 speakers. lol
You’re a better person than me lmao I would’ve just left the speakers dead.
I wouldn’t have been able to handle that. Lol I listen to music way too much.
You do good work. Where and how do I get speakers for my 1990 Chevrolet Silverado? Did the Chevrolet dealership or someone else have them ?
Sweet vid. Man i need me a truck.
You just watched it for fun .

Thank you for the Video I will be doing this tomorrow ☺️ very much Appreciated instructions
Glad to Help! Hope it goes well!
How much room is actually behind that speaker? 😊
My speakers have only been working on one side but occasionally it will work for a little bit of that what could my issue be
You could possibly have a loose wire connection somewhere, whether it be behind the speaker or behind the radio deck.
What a process
They did not make it easy...😅
I gutted that out. Great work.
Me? I would put some REALLY good speakers in the doors and turned the fader to front only.
Thanks! I did put some Speakers up front as well! I also faded more to the front than the rear.
if all my top clips are broken on that long plastic piece, can I still connect it back with just the bottom clips? any way to repair the top clips?
Are the stock speaker connectors on the rear different than the front door 6 1/2 speakers?? When you showed the connector on the kicker speaker it was flat and large
Hey thank you so much you rock girl !!! Could you give me the part # for the wire adapter I bought the wrong one and is hard to reference.
Did you have to buy the connectors separate?
Great video. Thank you!
Thats crazy that you don't have the back door that opens mine does its 97 but it was technically manufactured as a 96 and sold in 97
Nice hey we’re can I get those seats I’m trying to get new seats for my obs yours looks 🔥can you let me know we’re can I get em?
Thanks got the speakers removed and put the new one's in but broke every clip 😂
Oh no, I was trying my hardest not to break too many. 😂 these plastics get so brittle over time.
My truck has the 3rd door so mine is probably a tad bit different, but I’m in the process of doing this. Just ordered my replacement Kicker speakers.
Yeah, Probably a little different. Hope it goes well! I love my Kicker speakers in the truck. Sounds so nice now.
Michael - how’d the replacement end up going? I have the 3rd door on my 97 k1500 and am thinking about attempting a rear-speaker replacement, a lot of disassembly though....
@@dudeman71213 Hi I'm interested in knowing what were the differences for the 3rd door as well..thx!
What size speakers are the front and back ones I wanna replace them I just bought a 98 chevy and my speakers died today and need new ones

😂 Yeah, it's a bit much.
When somebody asks how much you love your truck, the answer is "so much I replaced the back speakers!"

Both my rear speakers are shot. When can I drop my truck off ?
I have had 3 of these extended cab Chevy trucks never attempted rear speaker change....now i no why leave it to Chevrolet to have u taking ur whole vehicle apart for a speaker change lol...still a chevy gal through and through though!
I took off the old speaker & the new one I bolted on to the outside panel
where did you find the oem speaker harness for the back speakers on this truck? i wanna do my back speakers but i cant find the harness.

3 tablespoons of oxi clean powder some dish soap and hot water in spray bottle took all of my stains right out with ease.
Thanks lovely ! Big help
What speakers did you put in there and how have they been holding up?
I put 4x6" speakers in the rear. They are holding up great. I use Kicker KS series speakers in pretty much every car I own.
hey your awesome you helped me out good job
Did you replace with the same size or larger ?
Where did you buy those speakers, or what model are they if you would know?
Clean interior. Nice 😎👍💯
So gorgeous lol hehe
Awesome vid btw
Very useful video. Thank you for sharing ;)
Is the rear speakers 4x6?
did new speakers come with factory connector? if so do you know the part number for those speakers?
Crutchfield gives the to you for free when you buy speakers from them. It’s a great company, I have no affiliation with them other than I use them a lot personally.
