My father was emotionally abusive towards me and i struggled with suicidal thoughts for a long time. More then once i was stopped from slitting my throat by my mom arriving home. I now spend a decent amount of time helping people away from those actions. If i had seen the video by onision i would have felt even worse. He clearly has no knowledge about psychology. Say those things WILL make people more prone to those actions and thoughts. If someone committed suicide because of Onision's video then their blood is on his hands. People like Onision are an evil unto themselves.

    • @F1nnAndJ4keGaming

Your argument is invalid. What if i were to say "I'll cut myself every time you post a comment on youtube, so if you do my blood will be on your hands"? Doesn't that sound ridiculous? I would be responsible, not you, because I would be the one doing it. Sure, you might be "provoking" me or "making me more likely to cut myself", but you didn't make me do it. People who pander to people who threaten suicide make the problem worse. The depressed ones think they can get anything just by threatening suicide. Onision tries his best (sometimes failing but meh) to give cold, hard facts to them in hope that they will see the error of their ways. He never says anything just to hurt people, its always to make a point or a joke. I guarantee you that he has helped more people than you or repzion, so maybe you should take notes.

    • @michaeltepes4690
      @michaeltepes4690 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

***** You may be right that he has helped more people than i have. Guess what, I'm probably around half his age. Not exactly proper comparison to be making. Furthermore, there is a difference between saying " "I'll cut myself every time you post a comment on youtube, so if you do my blood will be on your hands" " and committing suicide because someone tells you that you should. The psychology at work is too different to be compared. I have a psych major for a mother and attended several of her classes as well as provide an ear for her to talk about her classes. I feel quite sure that i know more about this topic then you and request that you actually learn about the topic before you reply. I've been at the suicide cliff so to speak, you can't understand the topic if you haven't experienced it and that's onsion's issue. I sincerely hope you and he never experience it. I'll admit there are people who say it just for attention. There are also those who truly do feel that way and need support not " cold hard facts" new flash, this is youtube, people only use their own background on here not actual facts.

@@mikaylamartinez9392 I know I'm late to the party(sorry, have been living inside my video games the past 19 years of my existance) but it's so painfully clear that this is a fan, most likely young and impressionable, thatched been borderline groomed into defending Onion Boy. I feel like I shouldn't talk bad about someone I assume is likely underage....but this comment was posted years ago, so that gives me a little bit of wiggle room. So I assume that you have some proof of Repzion "lying to us" because that statement in that of itself would be contradictory of the other statement if not wanting to make false accusations. So if there isnt any proof(havent read the whole comment chain, wanted to make this prediction first to feel like a big old smarty pants if I'm right) but if there inst any proof that Rep is lying, the poster, like Onision they are defending, is a hypocrite and liar. Then, to the fact that simply because Onion boy is bigger in terms of subs and views, that, what, makes him right and irrefutable?? Unfortunately this isnt the global stage, so the one with the biggest, loudest voice or the farthest reaching community doesnt automatically win. On youtube, it's a more fair fight. Mostly. If some smaller channel like good old Rep makes educated, factual, intelligently well put together rebuttals of someone, anyone, that is a valid medium. Sure, it might not gross near Onion Boys videos but the point is still valid, the truth is still accurate, and the argument is still won. So no matter if it's a big scawy Onision sized channel vs the humble might of Repzions following, the facts and criticisms are still the same.

I know how much it can hurt if your own parents abuse you verbally, even if it doesn't seem important. It hurts so much more when it comes from your parents, the people that should love you no matter what. I'm not saying that this mother (and father?) intented to hurt him, maybe they were just saying things out of anger, it happens. But nevertheless they should know how fragile teenagers can be and how every single insult can bring them closer to suicide.

I wish (just like James Flanagan) that there were more people like you on the internet. And people like onision... Well... I'd dislike them. I almost lost all my brain cells when Onision said "if you blame your problems on yourself, you have full control". That is retarded. The reason some people attempt suicide is because they blame all the problems that occur around them on themselves. This makes them feel like they will only cause problems for the people around them, and therefore, they may consider suicide an option. Now I'm no expert on suicide. Not at all. But from what I know, this is how it happens for some people.

I remember being a teen and living with my parents (who were emotionally abusive). I was terrified to ask for anything. Not only was I almost always told no, but I was made to feel guilty for hassling them no matter how important my reason was. I remember crying plenty of times because my parents wouldn't take me to the store to buy stuff for a school project. One time I had to make a painting with nail polish. I understand that parents can't ALWAYS be at their child's beck and call, but when you purposely make your child feel like their not worth just a FEW minutes of your time or 15 dollars of your money, it hurts a lot more than a lot of people understand.

Imma subscribe to onision. Mainly because I'm writing a character who's emotionally abusive towards others (even his own twin brother) and I'd like to analyse onision's personality and use him as one of my inspirations for that character. I mean, onision right there acts EXACTLY like how I imagine that character would react if someone complains about him (the character) being abusive towards them. He acts so much like my character, it's not even funny.

I feel for this kid. Usually I think of killing myself when I get home and see an envelope full of cash on the table, and my parents cars are gone. They've been doing it since I turned 13. My friends think it's awesome because I'll often buy a few ounces of weed and have my friends bring food and we just have kick backs, but really it's painful to know your parents don't care. I mean that's just the worst. The screaming and yelling isn't that bad because at least we're together.

You have my greatest sympathies. With parents like that you are better off without them, just enjoy your company with your friends. I Know it is not the same thing. But as someone who has NO family member that cares enough to understand them, all I can say is try looking for close friends that can be that family. It isn't just about blood relations, family is a group that cares about you and your well being. If your parents cannot do that, then do not try to get acceptance from them. Try to find friends that will accept you. Trust me, it makes a world of difference.

Satirical Pink Squid "Blame your emotions on yourself, you're the person who has them."
So, if someone's raped, they should blame themselves for feeling uncomfortable, dirty or unhappy because they have emotions?
If someone's been in a war and seen their friends die, they should blame themselves for having PTSD because they have emotions?
Or, what if someone's been neglected or kicked out of their home, they should blame themselves for feeling abandoned because they have emotions?
You don't "own" emotions, they're not tangible objects, you can't do what you want with them to your will, you can only work to live with them, and in some cases work around them.

I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE SOMETHING EXTREMELY AND OVERWHELMINGLY CLEAR:
VERBAL ABUSE AND SEXUAL/PHYSICAL ABUSE ARE TWO VERY DIFFERENT THINGS THAT EFFECT THEIR VICTIMS IN VERY DIFFERENT WAYS.
THIS COMES FROM A VERBAL AND PHYSICAL ABUSE VICTIM. SERIOUSLY GUYS. VERBAL ABUSE IS HORRIBLE, BUT SEXUAL AND PHYSICAL ABUSE IS MUCH WORSE. YOU CANNOT EXCHANGE THOSE TWO AND EXPECT THEM TO BE EQUIVALENT.
THEY ARE NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, THE SAME.

Rubber Duck They're both bad in different ways, but I don't think it's possible to strictly say that one is much worse than the other. Research indicates that psychological abuse can create problems that are just as bad as those from physical abuse.

Even verbal abuse can be detrimental to a young child and cause psychological harm and issues later on down the line in school and life. Enjoy your points and willingness to stand up to someone who is clearly delusional and unwilling to apologize for stupid statements :-)

I don't know why people are blaming him for giving an equal status to verbal abuse and sexual abuse. All he is saying that a victim of abuse is going to suffer from depression, low self-esteem etc. Comparing two bad things isn't fair because that way whatever you have been through, someone else has been through worse so should people say "It doesn't matter if you were molested once as a child, there is a kid in Africa who is so malnourished that you can see his ribs." whenever someone from first world has a problem?

You know what my PO told me? "Well, this is your fault for not listening to her. I could take you to court for not following your probation contract."
Luckily, my mom and I have made amends and are now very close. But goddamn, my PO was a cunt.

Uh... doesn't Onision realize that literally, anyone can have depression? Depression doesn't give a flying f*ck whether you live in a mansion or live in the streets. Depression is a chemical imbalance for f*ck's sake... it's not like some living entity that goes around and says stuff like, "Hm... well, that person is too well off to deal with me..." a homeless child could have the most loving parents in the world, while the child that lives in the mansion could have the biggest a**holes ever for parents who constantly abuse them.

Okay. I used to self harm, but I don't anymore. I'm actually happy now, and it took work to get there. However, he talks about how we should get help, and I did get help. I had a therapist, I was (and still am) on several medications, and I still hated myself. The thing is, we know that it could be worse. We know that all too well, we feel so horribly guilty for feeling this way when we know kids in africa are starving. Depression can be debilitating, but it takes time to learn to handle and deal with it in your own way, as long as it's not self injury or unhealthy habits. Some people take longer than others, and that's fine. But even if you learn to handle it, it's still going to be there, and you're gonna have setbacks sometimes.

Monica Lonon What's funny is that he's misinformed on what he tells you. Though many kids in Africa come home without a meal, they're not surviving in the forest and starving. If anything, the big problems in Africa are rape, disease and crime.
I've lived in a third world country, so I'm speaking from experience. People there have the problems you have. People in third world countries attempt suicide, people in third world countries have depression, are sexually confused, do have mental illness, etc.
There's more to us than just starving, we're just like you, and it sucks that we're used as some example to make you feel better.

My own mom was never abusive, but her behavior was such that I could, and still cannot to a degree, do anything without her consent. She does that without knowing she's doing it, I know it's not her fault, but it's gone so far that I have to take medication, due to being so emotionally dependant on my mom. I love her a lot, we have very good relations now, most of the time, but she still thinks the issue was only on my side and refuses to see help herself.
But according to Onision, I need to take responsibility for myself, because when my mom was unknowingly damaging my psyche, I should have stood up to her. Since I was a baby and had no idea that was abnormal. Great.

Im pretty sure the issue with the walmart thing wasn't "she wouldnt take me to walmart" it was the fact that she asked her mom to do something as simple as going to walmart, and her moms response was "shove it up your ass". It was an example of how horribly her mom talks to her even over the smallest things, and if shes telling her kid to "shove it up her ass" over _asking for a ride to walmart_ then imagine what she must be like when shes actually pissed off about something. The point was not that she wouldnt drive her to the store, its how she reacted to being asked

Maybe in other situations, but as anyone with any proper studies of mental health will tell you, constant discualification (evident by the "shove it down your ass bit") tears down the self esteem of anyone when it comes from a figure such as the mother. It is posible to adapt to the situation and become functional regardless of it, but that won't help the victim feel better, the victim may as well develop depression, which is already a shitty thing in the first place, but tat also puts him/her at risk for self mutilation and suicide.
Onision has education on the subject. Seems Mr. Rep doesn't have any, either, but Mr. Rep is much closer to understanding than Onision is.

Well, you guys gotta give this guy a break
From the message he got, any average person(keyword average) _would_ also think said person/kid/teen/whatever is being a drama queen,
Some kid tells me he's verbally abused and suicidal, but the only example he can think of to tell me is he couldn't go to Wal-Mart, then I would think this kid has problems and needs help with his own perspective
OBVIOUSLY this kid could have simply not been able to remember anything else but his feelings(this type of bad memory is often caused by trauma and anxiety)
And he probably _does_ feel awful
But s/he should have said more than just what he did
Onisen should have tried to get his own perspective of this kids situation first however
"oh you're depressed? Well that's a stupid reason and it's your own fault! =D"
Yeah, cuz that's what you say to everybody who's depressed

    • @kevinhedgeus1909
      @kevinhedgeus1909 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

No, just no. Some one like this who blames a victim for something they can't control should not be given sympathy.
      1) Your first argument lacks sense. No average person would think that teen or kid was being a drama queen because we can't use the words average or normal when talking about people. Average holds no meaning as what's considered average differs depending on the place or group. A better term is common sense but even that differs depending on the person. Morals differ for everyone and that effects what is considered average. While you and probably people you know would consider that person a drama queen, if that same person said that where I live, we wouldn't think twice before helping them because verbal or physical abuse happens quiet a bit where I live.
I'll let others talk about the other things you list because I don't even want to read what else you said.

    • @Poison_Paradise
      @Poison_Paradise 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Kevin Hedgeus Washington, here in my community nobody can be serious about anything really
And, no, nobody is a drama queen just for saying that they are abused, people would think that because the only example to be thought of was Wal-Mart
I did say however that memory loss is associated with types of anxiety and trauma, which actually makes it more believeable and would make anyone who knows that want to help instantly,
However not that many people know that...
And "average" is used as a scientific term all the time...
I think you just hate him...or, me

The Walmart thing was just one specific and recent example of the kind of responses the mom gives - she was being very rude and insulting in response to a perfectly reasonable request, and there's no doubt that she talks to the teen this way on a regular basis.

    1) He's talking about people becoming suicidal for FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS. Like what he said, not being able to go to Walmart. If he was talking about everyone who commits suicide, I wouldn't be subbed to him right now.
    2) You don't struggle with suicide. Because in suicide, YOU'RE DEAD :|

2:30 No its not okay, but it doesn't deserve suicide
2:40 That's stupid. You're assuming its the worst thing it could possibly be. That's probably not the case.
4:04 Well gee anyone can change it to something worse. And yes, it's worse. Victims of molestation would be more than happy to trade lives with someone who only gets yelled at.
4:30 He just said that its wrong to blame suicidal thoughts on her. He didnt say the kid is at fault for abuse.
4:50 You're right. No one said that.
5:45 Lets be real here. Anyone who would give an example would give the worst recent one they could think of and if this example is the worst, it's not much
7:15 I hope you never have children for the sake of the gene pool's intelligence.

Emotional state of mind is relative, so a person growing up in the first world will feel their problems having the same impact as someone in the third world.

first world suicide or self harm is stupid, let me explain before you start saying stuff like "you're so ignorant" if someone came to me and said "i self harm and want to kill my self" i would try to help them, but keep this in mind, we live in a first world country most of the people cut them self are doing it for attention not because they have a serious problem but the people who do are doing it for a reason are doing it for stupid reasons , if you're being bullied fuck them what the fuck do they know about you, if you're over weight it doesn't matter, if you're weight is a problem do some exercise and if you already are push your self even more their will be people around you to support you and for the small percentage with actual problems, cutting is making it worse, if you have mental of physical abuse you just adding on to the problem get help. no matter what their is at least one person out there who will help, you're not alone. and to say that most people who self harm have no disability at all, that is showing that they are un grateful for having a perfectly capable body. and before you say anything take a look at how people have to live in third world countries and see how much you hate you life then.

The fact that you haven't experienced something doesn't make it universally untrue. I know it's hard to understand a mental illness from an outside perspective (especially if you have never known anyone who has experienced one first hand), but that is no excuse for blatant disrespect. Believe me when I say that if you ever find yourself in a position where you know someone with a mental illness you will completely change your opinion. Believe it or not, not everyone reacts to situations the same way you do. It is completely inappropriate for you to tell someone else that what they are feeling is incorrect.

Jesus you've been brainwashed by Onision already huh? Okay let's address this carefully.
trigger warning: Cutting, bullying and eating disorders
You're saying that the fact that I live In a first world country, I can never be sad?
People feel sadness regardless of what condition they are in.
Most cutters don't cut for attention. When you get hurt, your body releases a hormone called endorphine. This relives pain and stress temporally which is a big reason in cutting and why people do it often. Obviously they cut because they have some serious shit going on in their lives but it's different for each person. Many others resort to more drastic measures to get their endorphin high like slamming against a wall, bruising or hitting them selves. Cutting isn't the only method but one of the most popular sadly.
Bullying is a touchy matter. Considering young teens are getting bullied and their minds are developing, verbal abuse as simple as:
"Hey, you're an idiot!" can damage a kid. Sure some people can take it better but others can't. The world is not black and white. You can't divide it into "weak and strong people." NO we are all different,we all handle things different.
Weight is also a touchy matter. Some people can't just get up and exercise if they want to lose weight. Some people, due to genetics are unable to lose weight as easily as their friend. Another issue is eating disorders which can cause a person to be unable to control the amount of food they take daily. Like Bulimia, an individual overindulges on food which leads them to forcing themselves to vomit thinking this will help them lose weight. You can't just tell someone with anorexia to just eat. That's like telling someone who's missing a leg to "Just get over it and walk!" These peoples mental health is not okay so they see themselves in an awful light. They need serious help and not just gentle nudging to get them to eat or stop eating.
It's also not as easy to get help then you think. Somebody who cuts and doesn't get help mostly likely are too embarrassed about their "addiction" to seek help. It's hard to just get up and say,
"hey mom, dad, I cut myself to relive myself of pain for a few moments. I need help."
Trust ,me, Onision says all you have to do is go to a therapists and all of your mental illness are gone. That's not true. FAR from true.
I should know. I sufferer from an anxiety disorder and have been going to three therapists to overcome it for 4 years and have been on countless meds. But even after all that I still have panic attacks although I'm getting better everyday. Talking and admitting your personal life to a stranger is not an easy and simple fix to a mental illness.
And comparing your life to others can cause you to become MORE depressed. Greg makes people who are suicidal seem like ungrateful bastards for having depression and it disgusts me. Yes,some cutters do do it for attention but they are a minority. The world isn't as simple as the Onision paints it to be. You can't just go and get help and come out healed of any mental affliction.
Sorry it's so wordy but it needs to be said.

    • @naterocks96

I mostly agree with what you are saying, except for your thoughts on Greg. In some of his videos he states he is just giving his opinions, and most of the time, just giving them sarcastically. Sure, he doesn't know what this kid was/is going through, and his assumptions may very well be wrong. But he means no harm. Take this from an ex-self harmer and depressed 18 yo, I enjoy his videos very much, because they make me laugh, and he lightens a normally dark subject, like cutting.. And seriously, JapanUK... WTF! He obviously has never had depression, etc.. Because he would know that most of us DO NOT CUT FOR ATTENTION. Why do you think we try to hide it so much.. I personally hate when I cut.. But I tried it once (mistake) and have a very hard time stopping. So Ursula, You are very right in that respect, but I think you aren't viewing Greg as he intended, because he truly means no harm.. He's just trying to lighten such dark subjects.. And you are right about seeking help. Whatever you need help with isn't just magically healed. Therapists are literally trying too change how you think.. And it's very difficult. So it takes time, money, meds (if necessary), determination, and so much more.. And just to make things clear to some people who like to stereotype. JUST BECAUSE YOU CUT DOESN'T MEAN YOU'RE EMO. AND JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE EMO, DOESN'T MEAN YOU CUT!!.. I'm so tired of people assuming that... Okay, Good luck with whatever personal hell you're going through everyone, and thank you Ursula for your knowledge.
      Hearts for all of you!

You were listening to Rep in the video too right? Not just onion boy right? The child was verbally and physically abused too.
That aside, the mother replied with "Shove it!" to her child? That's verbal abuse, mildly, itself. So I agree with your statement 100%, but there's more in the story than that.

As a 17 year old who has been emotionally, verbally, (and eventually physically) abused by a parent, his comments disgusted me. It can be hard to give examples because they can seem so insignificant, but when all your interactions with that person are like that or worse, you begin to feel worthless. My heart goes out to that kid.
