    When you utilize your relationship to lure in the views, your relationship becomes your job.

      Tronderose I'd hate to see why you think it isnt. Whether you're job is to obtain/keep a readership, or keep and maintain viewers, throwing in the idea that the reason you keep a relationship, or put with a person even more than you should sanely, to keep a job where the main reason you have said job is because of the relationship isn't really illogical. We all gotta eat

    I agree with you. Unless you're Ethan and Hila and you've been married for so long and you had a relationship before your fame, yeah. I mean even they keep their relationship private and people mistake them for siblings all the time, that's doing it right. I think that's fine. But if you're making your relationship your civil duty, you're a damn fool.

    • @andrewschiller9735

      Yeah, Ethan and Hila are both comedians (mostly Ethan but hila still to) so they have a reason to be together. They barely show affection too they are practically just two comedians working together itsmawesome.

    Its so entertaining to read Lainey's twitter, but I agree that they should keep it private. Especially because they have kids... its so fucking stupid. I love watching youtube couples like Simon and Martina, their relationship is so perfect, but if they had some problems, it wouldn't be good to involve their viewers. I think its okay to talk about private shit if they already went through the problem, tried fixing it, and later in time they shared what they went through. Lainey and Onision seem like they live tweet it all...

    • @schwarzeseis4031
      @schwarzeseis4031 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, it was stated that Onision would do anything to deliver some drama to the audience. Never watched him myself, but from what I get out of gossip, I can't help but think of Charles and Diana.
      Additionally I wonder: When you present yourself to your audience as a couple and gain fans and followers as a couple -- would the couple/audience relationship somehow resempbe the parents/children-relationship (at least when it comes to problems)?

    • @becsterino
      @becsterino 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree with you totally, Felix and Marzia have survived for so long (kuddos to them) exactly because they keep their ACTUAL relationship private and just make videos together for fun. But I wanted to note that it's not just about youtube, to me publicazing your relationship even on facebook is toxic. I know so many people who hae been dating for a month and every post is about how in love they are and they keep spamming and spamming until they break up and then it's not FANS that start fighting it's actual people they know in real life which is even more shitty. I have a serious relationship which has no trace on the internet almost exactly because I don't see why people need to know about it, its between me and the other person and thats that.

    It is extremely unhealthy. Because as fans see a cute couple they hope things like "omg i hope they get married", "I hope we can see their wedding", "I hope they have babies" This gives fans an expectation and constantly making videos and publicizing about it may will build that up more and more. which will make the eventual break up a bigger deal.

  • @katc2628

    I used to publicize my relationship problems when I was MUCH younger. it caused nothing but more problems and let the wrong people know our problems. after what my ex's friends said about me on his post and what my friends and family said about him on my posts, there was too much animosity and hate to ever work things out. I'm now 24 and keep everything to myself. I have too much respect for my significant other and for myself to broadcast our relationship. I'm able to be mad at him for 5 minutes without running to social media to "humiliate' him. it's weird to me that a 30-soemthing year old can't do the same with their significant other especially since there are kids involved.

    Onision: "I will tell you about my personal life my family my past and my relationship. And also I'll play it up for views"
    (Audience shows concern and starts to come to their own conclusions)
    Onision: "you people are sick you fucking stalkers stop going into my private life that I definitely never encouraged you to dig in to. Now I'm going to flip you off and lie after I started the issue myself"

      Chasing thee arch heretic and his planet killer towards the Eye of Terror is the greatest test I have ever faced, but my soul is armoured in faith. Thee Imperial Creed guides me, banishing all doubt or regret. Thee Emperor stands with us and I have felt the purity of His righteousness. I have witnessed His glory burn away the darkness. I have seen the Imperium's indomitable ferocity unleashed upon its countless enemies. I saw courage and honour displayed in the Emperor's name. I saw thee unwavering loyalty and righteousness that He inspired.
      No fortress could withstand thee Emperor's wrath. No fury could overcome His protection. The Emperor's light cleanses even the darkest corruption, sunders even the strongest curse. His glory brings salvation to those who embrace His ideals. Even the fallen are offered a chance of redemption in the Emperor's service... through death. Sacrifice, duty, honour... these are what the Emperor requires of us. Amen.

    I agree with most of what you're saying in this video, but I have seen a few people who talk about their lives and families on their channels and are still happily together after several years of vlogging (Cory Williams is the best example that immediately comes to mind). I think that, ultimately, the ones who manage to make things work are the ones who know what is okay to talk about over social media and what is better left private. Naturally, it also helps when the relationship isn't the primary focus of the poster's videos/posts. Granted, things change, but that's okay, and I agree that just because a person is prominent on social media doesn't mean that the audience has to know every detail (again, Cory Williams is a good example that comes to mind). As is true in all relationships, couples who are able to balance their private and personal lives and work things out between each other are usually the best off.

  • @insomnisnack2868
    @insomnisnack2868 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Personally, this video hits kind of close to home with me. I met my S.O. online in a chatroom, and we've been living together happily for several years now. The chatroom may not be /youtube/, but you definitely see this kind of publicized relationship on there too.
    Since he's a moderator on the site, it's hard for people to NOT know that we're in a relationship, so I can kind of understand how maybe it seems easier to just make the relationship public, but you can do so without airing your dirty laundry.
    Sometimes we do talk about things in chat instead of in person, but it's never more serious than "Weren't we going to the store?".
    I think that relationships that either start or are partially online get unhealthy when you start seeking validation from the community you're part of or the audience that follows you. It creates this third-wheel dynamic where it's not just you and your partner anymore; it's you, your partner, and your audience.
    It also leaves the couple feeling obligated to explain every post/video made to their audience as though they are ALSO part of that relationship. To top it off, it gives the audience a sense of inclusion in something that they're really not part of or have any control over, and that's just not healthy either.
    I guess what I'm getting at is that I don't entirely agree that relationships put out in public are bad... it's how that relationship is put out there, and how much emphasis is put on the relationship that causes the strain. If you keep it mostly separate, and it's just public knowledge that you're dating, there won't/shouldn't be a problem.

    I'm so glad you talked about youtubers feeling like they owe something to their audiences. I think this is a more accurate explanation as to why relationships are shared so often. I'm sure it's about money for some. however, the bigger issue is that social media has made viewers feel like they are best friends with these online personalities and that if something happens in their lives that they don't share, then they are somehow breaking the viewers' trust or lying to them. the youtubers feel like they have to say something because if not, they'll disappoint their audience. to me, this is a bunch of crap! celebrities don't owe anything to their audience except for their craft! that's it!
    I'm 30 and as a kid growing up in the '90s all I knew about my favorite celebs were what they may have said on TRL or in Tiger Beat Magazine. and yet somehow, me and a gazillion other people survived without knowing what Justin Timberlake had for lunch. it's a crazy world that we've made for ourselves!

    I strongly agree with you on this one, Daniel. I think that "public relationships" type people end up usually breaking up because both behaviors tend to be committed by the same type of person: the type of person who is superficial and feels the need to share their relationship and get approval in order to feel good about themselves tends to also be too superficial to hold long-term relationships with most people

    I do agree with you, really.
    And, in the end you do summarize perfectly well why some people would do that."it's my Goddamn channel and I'll talk about whatever the fuck I wanna talk about." Some do it for views, of course, but there has to be the obligatory 'not all' thingy put in there. Perhaps it has to do with the feeling you get when you're so happy something happened (the start of a relationship, for example) that you want to shout it from the rooftops because you just can't keep it in (hmm... I'm sure I had a fart joke for that... somewhere...) . Then, when it comes to an end, some feel the need to just...rub salt into the wound, I suppose? It is not healthy, and it certainly isn't good if there are children involved as they inevitably get sucked into something they should not be put through...

    3:35 I agree with everything you said, but I wouldn't say everyone likes "break-up" videos but when a couple are both youtubers and both film/live together, I think it would be kinda weird to not address a divorce or break up at all. Especially if they make videos together often like BFvsGF...I mean people would eventually start asking "where's so & so?"

  • @michikodarkkitsune
    @michikodarkkitsune 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I often see a trend with couples-not just on youtube-but on social media in general where at the beginning of a relationship they will post shit like photos and statuses and like each other's shit and all sorts of cutsie crap all the damn time. I've been guilty of it myself when I first got with my fiance. But the natural course of things is that over time, you don't feel the need to share as much crap online. The posts about each other, the pictures, should (imo) gradually decrease in frequency, preferably to none but that's being unrealistic for most people. This doesn't mean you love your partner less, in fact it means the opposite. You're so secure in your relationship you don't need to post things to gain views, likes and approval from the general public.
    And a couple who communicates so much through social media isn't really communicating well enough in real life and the more they share, the more insecure they are in the relationship. Thus there comes the inevitable break up.
    Seriously, can anyone else comment on this trend? I've seen it so often within my own Facebook. xxx

    I believe the best kind of TH-cam 'couple' (or just a TH-camr whose boyfriend is in her videos) is Simply Nailogical. Her boyfriend, Ben, is in her videos, but they do not publicize their relationship. There are some videos where she puts a focus on him (such as the video where she put him in drag makeup) or has him test out unusual nail products, etc, etc. They don't fight over social media, they don't show any visible toxicity, they're a funny pair who show up together or mentions the other.

    I agree. However if they started on TH-cam as a unit on a collab channel and their following is exclusive to them both rather than individually it's important in a way to let their followers know what the deal is if they aren't making videos together anymore, such as PrankVsPrank. It's best to settle it simply in a video saying "we aren't together anymore so no one needs to constantly ask what's going on or feel in the dark about our channel, this channel will be inactive or we will be posting videos individually." It clears things up, let's people know how the content will continue, etc. However I agree if they both post on their own channels about it, it's kind of awkward, an excuse for views when they both could've just let it fade into existence that they weren't together. I think people would get it eventually if they stopped talking to each other/making videos together so it's not necessary to make a statement unless it has to do with them working together directly on TH-cam. Personally I think it should be private as well but if they work together in a singular channel, it's kind to let their audience know what direction their content will be going in considering they are subscribed, etc. but that's just personally what I think.

    Agree with you on all points, Repzion. I was disgusted when I saw those videos by Psychosoprano and Joshuadtv announcing their divorce. Do TH-camrs like them (or any other relationship TH-camrs) recognize how destructive their videos are? They portray their relationship as perfect and then when they divorce/breakup, their followers are heartbroken. I saw at least 5 videos of young girls crying over their divorce. Even Psychosoprano said she and Joshuadtv fought constantly, but didn't show that because it would damage their "perfect" relationship. Now that they're getting divorced, their young followers think marriage & relationships are all doomed to fail. If their "perfect" relationship couldn't survive, then what would give them hope true love really exists? These relationship TH-camrs only skew young children's minds of what "true" love is supposed to look like. I don't have a problem with these relationship TH-camrs. I just like how fake they are. DON'T just show the good times. Show them what a REAL relationship is supposed to look like.

He does his thing, she does her thing, and they will often collaborate to make videos together. Just to add, I feel sharing so much personal information about one's dating life tends to be more of an inflation of their ego, like "I''m so cool look at how awesome my bf/gf/life is" and such, which is the vibe I've gotten from Onision (now he's laying everything on the table eh?).

    I know twin flame couples who publicize their relationships on youtube and their relationships are way too strong to be broken up over nonsense, and if they bring some of their issues to the table it's because they want to show others how to properly DEAL with them-not-for the purpose of creating drama and getting more views!
    If anything, they get the least views among the typically known youtube couple.

    from my understanding, onion boy has been doing these TMI videos literally anything about him for so many years, right? i think i heard him say on one of his videos its "therapeutic" for him to always just share everything. his thoughts and feelings, for the world to see and hear via internet. i guess for me, onion boy just treat every audience his personal close friend, making his private lives not private. while its healing to share bottled up feelings...but for the whole world to see? i guess its his way of validation of feeling "heard" or "listened" to. statistically, it makes money anyway. onion boy is just that weird kid who cant shut up about everything even in his adult life. had a rough life and found youtube. then proceeds to treat it like a best friend and therapist. figured out to make his whole life an entertainment for his audiences since it sell anyways and while its "healing" for him at the same time. hes stuck with this kind of lifestyle for so many years and this became his normal way of living. i can see why and understand this perspective but its really depressing indeed. i cant do anything but stay away from his content.

    I think everyone should keep their relationship business in their relationship. These days too many people post too many thoughts on facebook/twitter/etc. When I have issues with my fiance we take space and work it out later, we don't involve other people in our arguments, we don't involve other people in our disagreements. There is no reason to publicize your relationships.
