I vacationed at Estes Park for a week a few years back, and I saw this same scene every day at 4:30 sharp
The herd of about 70 was headed to the golf course in back of the motel I was at. The golfers had to stop and hope the elk would move on quickly but that didn't happen. What did happen was they all started laying down and grazing. Golfers took a mulligan 🤣

Beautiful. I like that they co-exist with the people in that town and how these animals are being respected. I was at the Grand Canyon National Park last year and I had a cabin inside the park. One morning 6 of them were right outside my cabin door. But from what I read they were not natives to the park but were transplanted from Yellowstone National Park.

This is in the fall during the rut. They congregate in the 100's on the Estes (s-tess, not, s-tease) Park golf course to munch on the green grass, take in the sun & feel safe in their #'s. There are a # of herds down there at the same time, but usually the harem bulls let the other bulls know where the lines are, so to speak. One year, they literally did just that! While taking notes, I saw 2 big bulls line up at the far side of the course lawn/fairway & run across, each w/ a tip of their antlers scoring a line in the dirt all the way across to the other side. I was in Estes Park on the way to the RMNP entrance a # of times each fall, but I had never seen that happen before.
