I prefer more of these side to side comparisons video to give a better idea to the consumers what they can look out for when doing a big purchase. Thank you for this video!
Man I been watching videos for days even weeks looking for some good true comparison videos. This channel just popped up today, And man this has been what I've been looking for, Thank you and keep it up.
I upgraded from a Neo G7 (since it is literally the same but toned down panel from Neo G8) to the AW3225QF recently, and boy, I found this comparison to be exactly what I'm currently experiencing. Brightness is definitely a limitation on the QD-OLED but with HDR, it will certainly make games much more impactful and enjoyable.
@@paulmckeown2788 I'm also thinking of switching from my neo g7 haha, how do HDR games compare between the two monitors? Especially on brighter games like RDR2?
@@kttiger666 For me it is definitely worth the upgrade BUT if OLED burn in is a concern for you, you might wanna stay with the Neo G7 for now until newer generation of QD-OLED releases, which might have much tighter and aggressive burn in protection. OR, maybe we might be able to get a glimpse of micro LED panel. I, for once, don't worry about OLED burn in since I vary my contents and work often. Touch wood even if there is a burn in, Dell has a warranty policy that covers burn in related stuffs.
i got the neo g8 and this aw3225qf the brightness of the neo is why i picked it in the first place as i like to kill my eyes with 100% brightness and i plan on keeping the neo g8 in case i have to file a warranty from the oled getting burnin and as a 2nd display
Well, it's a very tough versus in my opinion. Sometimes OLED looks better, sometimes it's MiniLED... But there is no risk of burn-in with Neo G8. Sure there is a burn-in warranty with Alienware, but some of us keep their monitor for 5+ years...
@@farmeunit Completely agree. 70-80% of the time I am doing work stuff on my PC which is why I can never buy an OLED monitor. If you mostly game then OLED is for you because buying a $1000+ monitor for just 3 years doesn't make sense.
@@farmeunit used s95b for gaming 90% time now it gets some obvious light blue bar burn in on the middle of screen, switched to mini led now, image is not as clear as qd oled but no risk of burn in and image quailty on fast va panel is actually great.
@@DisplayReality Any manufacturer worth their salt will stand by their products. 3 years is way too little... 5 years minimum in today's age, especially at those type of price points we seemingly are made accustomed to. I don't replace my equipment every year, I am not a consumer, I am a customer.
This is the second video I have seen of yours. I like your delivery. Great timing on this video as I just bought the Neo G8 earlier this week. Waiting to fire it up with the new PC. Your video makes me feel even better about my choice. Looking forward to more videos.
This was a fantastic video, wish more reviewers would do side-by-sides like this. I honestly had expected the OLED monitor to blow the mini LED out of the water, but that really wasn't the case. To my eyes, these were my preferences: *Scenes dominated by white or vibrant colors* (shots like flowers, lots of colorful clothing, pretty much anything outdoors in the daytime) - the mini LED looked significantly better. The colors were so well-saturated, bright, and beautiful on the mini LED in places like 5:36, 5:43, 6:06, 6:36, 7:15, and 11:24. The OLED looked desaturated and dull in comparison. Its lack of peak brightness is a big disadvantage here. *Textures* - The OLED was amazing at resolving texture detail. Against the mini LED, It looked really, really sharp. Look at the texture on the blue wall at 6:13 and the hanging tapestries at 6:38. The OLED catches so much minute detail in places where the mini LED looks flat. That could be the difference of Glossy vs Matte instead of OLED vs Mini LED though. *Speed* - The OLED once again takes the victory here. When he's playing NFS, take a look at the stop sign he passes at 7:55. If you pause the video, you'll see that it looks way more crisp on the OLED and there's a lot of ghosting/blurriness going on with the Mini LED. *Dark scenes* - No surprise here, OLED handily takes it. Look at the fire at 2:00. Sure, it's a bit brighter on the mini LED, but it also looks oversaturated. Look at how well the OLED is able to show black next to bright orange within the fire itself and all the detail it pulls from the edges of each little plume. The Mini LED also completely blows out the street light at 2:03, where as the OLED tightly confines the light to exactly where it's supposed to be. Finally, look at all the detail the OLED pulls out of the underside of the bridge at 7:32. The mini LED turns the bridge into a giant black block in its attempt to boost contrast between light and dark (this is called black crush). Reflections are a moot point here since it's entirely up to the panel's coating and isn't at all related to OLED vs mini LED. Man, if OLED tech could just find a way to crank the brightness a bit in daytime scenes it would be perfect.
Fantastic comparison…the QD Oled white looks little greyish while Mini LED looks pure white… if possible pls do a video comparison in a normally lit room / daytime and see how it compares
Mini led looks like the "white" has a dirty tint of green/yellow while oled may not be pure white but it having a greyish tint is much clearer and more on track of proper white in my opinion between the two.
really love your review. I’m really in love with alienware because it looks more natural to my eyes and I’ve oled tv and it doesn’t hurt my eyes after long time. I really love this. Goodluck to your channel
Thx friend.. The Alienware is easy on the eyes. No flicker or issues so far. Alienware does have a few firmware updates coming to improve certain things.
What an excellent episode!! Exactly what I need. So many good monitors coming and need to see side to side comparisons to have any idea which I prefer.
Victor, I found your channel about a month ago, and man do I love your channel. I appreciate all you do. First thing I say when I get on youtube is "What's Victor got today"🤙 I'm still on the fence about what I'm going to purchase. With your help you make things a bit easier. I love the new Alienware 32", but man that G8 still looks great and hold up pretty nice. Only thing that bothers me about the Alienware is SOUND. I would have to find an eArc sound bar to hear anything, Alienware should have put headphone jack for speakers. Again I'm surprised how the G8 looks next to the Alienware.
Love how you compare them. Seriously, well done. I would prefer the OLED, peak brightness is better in darker environments with other darker elements that are pixel perfectly lit, by no means is the G8 bad, but the winner is clear. When they release gen 4/5 panels, maybe we will finally see those brightness levels go up without impacting the longevity of the panels. In any case, these are still too expensive for my budget range. :/
I have the Neo G8 and I’ve been wanting to pull the trigger on a new 4K OLED but I think seeing how good I have it now and knowing that later this year there’s more competition coming, I think I’ll wait.
Mini led is nice but not the neo sadly. EOTF is really bad. Loses details in shadows but over brightness alot what you can see even on the video. I dont k ow why samsung tuned it like this
5:28 to 7:24 man, OLED just beats MiniLED in every scene. Yeah MiniLED is a big improvement compared to LCD, but OLED is still the king of image quality.
@@vik4130 I have neo g7, and it does crush shadows a lot, especially with contrast enhancer. without contrast enhancer it loses the "pop" but you wont crush shadows and highlights as much. you can even see it in video. if you look at details in bright areas/dark areas you will see a lot of details on the oled while not really seeing those details on the miniled.
Another Excellent video bro! I was excited for this one because I was able to get the Neo G8 from Samsung for $400 by using my edu account. Part of me wanted me to wait for more QD Oled monitors, but it was hard to pass up on that deal. Your comparison helps me feel better about my choice.
This is a really great comparison video. My AW3225QF model is coming in tomorrow, and I cannot wait. I currently have the Alienware 34" WDF, but I really want 4K. I have an RTX 4090, and I really want to take advantage of it. Maybe I'll miss the 21:9 ratio, maybe not.
Just got mine yesterday and replaced my aw3423dw. I was missing 4K and this monitor doesn’t disappoint!!!! Screen is perfect size compared to a 42inch c2 or c3.
Ive just subscribed to your channel. I'm really glad I did because I'm planning to buy a monitor. Comparisons between old and newer monitors really puts things into perspective. Thanks again. Best wishes from Canada.
Great video. I'm gaming on my 8-year old acer predator xb271hu and was deciding whether to go OLED. Taking long-term issues into consideration, decided to go for mini-LED as an interim monitor while waiting for OLED tech to mature more. Heck, we even have PHOLED nowadays!!!
@@marcus5368 OLED will get better its just a waiting game now. Good times ahead. Mini LED will give you that picture impact now.. the new benq is brightness king so far..
Wonderful video and great to duplicate the screens like this. I recently ordered the neo g8 for $375 with the recent edu deal, hope it comes without bad pixels
I have a Mini LED with a matte coating and the shimmer on the whites is super obvious for me. Looking forward to going back to a glossy coating soon. I wonder why the OLED is more blue though?
It did record today more blue/purple. The alienware does not let me change much in hdr mode right now. I can change if on console mode but I didn't enable today's as I am testing a new 2.1 hdmi splitter as seen in the middle. I'll keep a lookout thx
A TV sucks for close distance gaming and work, which is what you use a monitor for. C2 is a mid-end OLED TV at best. The smaller the panel, the lower the brightness. Most 42-48 inch WOLEDs barely reach 600 nits in HDR. A high-end OLED TV or Monitor does 1000 nits in comparison, even 27-32 inch panels. There's nothing high-end about LG C series anymore. Their last high-end C series was C9 from 2019. G series gets all the new and shiny stuff now and even G2 from 2022 makes C3 and C4 look dim and dull. Low brightness and no color pop. G3 with MLA is next level compared to any C series but QD-OLED is too. QD-OLED and WOLED with MLA is a huge step up from regular WOLED. LG A, B and C series are fine MID-END TVs (A more like entry level) but they are NOT HIGH-END by any means. A proper HIGH-END WOLED (with MLA) or QD-OLED will absolutely DESTROY any C series from LG today. LG needs to BADLY improve C series if they want to compete, or lower prices BIG TIME.
Ive owned just about all of then and even DWFs The price for a c2 for actual 4K gaming reliability and features including using as a tv for movies and shows as well as warranty and availability hands down beat any of the others for me. Theres more to a screen then just top pixel count PQ and HDR, HDR is odd to me anyways there not a ton of content that even gets it right unless native in the gaming space. Sure I mean endless pockets can get you all kinds of things but ive yet to see a price with all the other features make sense in a monitor. @@Dr.WhetFarts
Does the Neo G8 have a close analogue of the mini-LED? I don't know for what reason, but my eyes got tired of it, including at low brightness. Otherwise, I really liked it (despite the firmware bugs and the scanline problem), but I had to return it to the store. Are there any defective copies in this regard for the Neo G8?
According to rtings: the Neo G7 has flicker at low brightness. The Neo G8 has none even with lical dimming on. Tho if VRR is enabled it does have flicker but enabling VRR control should help with that. It is not using PWM..
@@DisplayReality I had flickering in some non-standard modes, for example, at 2560x1440/60 Hz there was a strong flickering, while at 3840x2160/60 Hz there was no flickering. The flickering disappeared if I turned off Adaptive-Sync and low input lag. But I did not use this mode on a regular basis.
Yes I have... but no worries. A new firmware update has fixed some issues but a newer March uodate by Dell moderator chris M confirmed a dolby vision switch/toggle option coming soon.
i do have AW3225QF and loving it everytime I play. Thank you for giving an honest review to our monitor tho a lot of people bashing it and praising asus lol you cant go wrong with the AW3225QF
I really like HDR on the aw. In reg play no issues in sdr or hdr. Congrats friend. This QD OLED life is nice.. :) Also, the thing is the Asus is having brightness issues at the moment on different presets. Hopefully they will fix them soon.
Thank you for posting the video. I have been watching many comparisons between 2 models. I got a Neo G8 a couple days ago for media consumption for $379 from Samsung. I have already got an AW3423DWF as my gaming monitor for sub $500 couple months ago. So I have a AW3423DWF and the Neo G8 for less than the price of a AW3225QF. For that I deal, I am ok with the limitation of miniLED, it is still miles better than my previous IPS LCD. Plus going 4k drop my framerate quite significantly so the G8 is just for streaming.
@@SuperSlokky they had a standard $650 off on their samsung US website at the time with an account and and I got $430 for education/military discount plus 5% from good ol Honey extension plus $20 off for using the app. That's how I scored it, it ran out of stock after.
1st. THANK YOU for this video and comparison. 2nd. Yes, the QD-OLED looks better on *some* content. But the brightness of the mini-LED is very apparent. And I agree with you, the mini LED stands toe to toe or is better than the AW on 60% of the scenes! I live in Canada and just ordered the mini LED Neo G8 for $999 (CAD) from Best Buy. The Alienware is currently on sale from Dell for $1349. We pay 13% tax where I live, so that $350 =$395. So the AW will cost me $1524 total while the Neo G8 cost me $1128. Difference of $399! So the question is, while in a direct side by side comparison the QD-OLED does look better clearer on SOME scenes, while the Neo G8 looks just as good or better on many scenes, does the QD-OLED justify a difference of $399 more? The OLED warranty from Dell will expire in 3 yrs, while the mini-led does not require it. So, I think for most people who don't have a QD-OLED beside them, the mini-led will be amazing for them. If the blooming is very noticeable for me, I will return the mini-led. BUT based on your excellent G7 vs G8 video from last year, i don't expect that to be an an issue and saving $399 def feels better too! 3rd. Your videos are among the very best I have seen on TH-cam! Thank you and keep it up.
Congrats. Few questions : How's motion handling in 240hz any ghosting? is it 10bit color at 240hz? Any scanlines now? And whats the manufacturing date of your unit ? Maybe on their newer batches they fixed the scanline issue
@@DisplayReality i dont have either monitor anymore. I got rid of the alienware and the neo g8. i fell in love with gaming on the LG 45GR95QE. i love how immersive it is
I got rid of the 4k OLED alienware and the Neo G8 in favor of the more immersive 45 inch oled from LG. the 45GR95QE, i love this monitor!@@DisplayReality
I am still in love with my Samsung Neo G8, the ONLY reason I would upgrade is because of that pixel response OLED has. I did search and find Samsung has a new Firmware update for my G8, I am on 1007 and the new one is 1009. Also there is hope that in the future that we will get monitor with self emissive Quantum Dots (Samsung develops method for self-emissive QLED).
My god. That Alienware is unreal. Excellent video. I was already sold by the aw3225qf. But damn this video shows how big an difference it is. I don’t care about brightness. I care about the best picture quality, low input lag, Color vibrancy, contrast, etc. I understand that many people are scared to throw 1000 for an monitor. But c’mon there is 3 years warranty. And it is just night and day difference from qdled. This is truly the end game monitor. Productivity and gaming wise. I will probably buy this one or the newer model. Because I discipline myself till march 2025. Maybe then there is qd oled gen 4👀. Or 27 inch 4K qd oled versions. Thanks for this video. Big thumbs up for your amazing work👌
Hey, cool video dude! I’ve been mulling over which of these two monitors to buy for a while now but haven’t made a decision yet. I’m looking for a monitor primarily for gaming, but since I also do development work and spend a lot of time in the terminal with a Tmux setup, I’m concerned about burn-in. A 3-year warranty seems okay, but if it were 5 years, I would have gone for the Alienware already. Perhaps I’ll stick to using my current monitor for work and reserve the QD OLED for gaming.
I got a neo g8 a few months ago and just got the AW to replace it. I’ve never had a monitor that I’ve hated more. It got to the point where I would get off of work and go to my LG OLED TV and it felt like a breath of fresh air every time so I thought it was time to get rid of it.
SDR content, competitive gaming sort of stuff, input lag, etc are great. I feel like Samsung made some poor design choices when R&D these models. 240hz mode scan lines on blue and orange. Yeah you sort of get used to it but asking customers to compromise on this = defective monitor imo. I think you covered it but in HDR mode color saturation and visual clarity was totally weird and washed out. Last night I even played Helldivers 2 in HDR for a bit. After months of fiddling with settings, calibrations, icc profiles I thought I finally got it looking okay. Plugged it into my LG on a whim and was like OH this is what this is supposed to look like. Perhaps I am expecting too much but just my experience.
@@jm56481 Had a Neo G8 for dirt cheap back when Samsung had them for $400-ish, looked good, no scanlines, latest firmware, build date February 2024, looked great and worked great for the stuff i needed it to do except I wasnt too adjusted to the 1000R regardless what I do and local dimming while most of the time good had some areas dimming darker when it didnt need to, ended up selling and still waiting on the 321URX but I might just buy the AW this weekend to test as maybe 1700R is more bearable and hopefully DV gets sorted out and the fact that Dell has better customer service than the other brands.
Would be interesting to know which local dimming setting was used on the G8. My experience with a neo G7 on the newest firmware showed that high will blast small highlights with zero regard for blooming while auto has better blooming control but less brightness for small highlights. Definitely prefer high over auto with some light in the room.
i have the ultrawide alienware oled and i have tried everything to keep it and its beautiful but i get a headache after about an hr of use it breaks my heart but i may have to go with the neo g8 anyone else had these eye problems with oled?
I have heard a few ppl have an issue. I dont but I can understand. Sorry friend. What brightness setting did you have it on? Sometimes (this is very rare) but too low brightness may strain your eyes. But too high does also..
At 00:00:13 can clearly see that green plant looks distorted on neo g8 and very sharp on the oled. Also on the neo g8 at that time, the flames look like lights than flames, very white and disfigured. The OLED G3 wins hand down, the only good thing about the neo g8 is it does not have burn in, so buy a mini led for everything and oled for gaming and anything else that has no static content. In my opinion mini led is fake HDR.
Yeah but if you compare closer, left bushes are not only way brighter but also sharper on neo g8, while on AW it looks blurry. Imo the difference is mainly because both monitors are curved and camera cant handle it, because the right side of the picture in intro always looks better on AW, left side on G8.
I tried both of these monitors. I thought, compared to my old 27" 4k144hz IPS monitor, that the Neo G7 looked amazing. Proper, true HDR. Great colors and contrast. But then I tried a AW3225QF. The difference was so utterly massive that I returned the Neo G7 within a couple days. I just couldn't go back to it. The colors. The black levels. The lack of haloing. And the viewing angles - the absolute biggest advantage in the OLED's favor.
Been Neo G8 user since day one and while it's been a great monitor I'd say there is definitely room for improvement. But you will never be happy so just use whatever works until it doesn't.
If I were going to get a 4K monitor right now, I would go with the Samsung Neo G8 because I don't game much anymore. Better text clarity, no worries about burn in, etc.
I've been using the AW3225QF for over a week now. The image quality is amazing. But the panel is not perfect. It has a terrible vrr flickering issue. I've turned off Gsync and vsync on and the vrr issue has gone away. What is your thoughts on vrr flickering issue? Most comments I read indicates it can't be fixed with a firmware.
I have seen this exact issue on the msi and aorus etc. Seems many qd oled have it. Tho while using it I have not seen thos issue. Not sure if some ppl are sensative to it. LGs new 32GS95UE so far I have not seen any comments on flicker.. Ill keep an eye out for more comments or if a fix is available.
@@DisplayReality it’s appearing virtually on every game I play msfs, alen wake, cyberpunk just to name few. But turning off vrr didn’t affect the games due to oled response times. So smooth even without vrr. I think neither dp nor hdmi2.1 has enough bandwidth for 4k 240hz even with compression. I will look forward to hearing if there is any fix.
I sent my Neo g8 for a repair after having it for 3 months. Repair centre had to wait 3 weeks for a part from Samsung when they sent it back I could not see the scanlines anymore I had too double check it was set at 240hz. I had no idea what they done but whatever it was fixed it.
Had the neo g8 and let me tell you: the scanline issue is really unacceptable. Even if you change the refresh rate or any other settings, the scanline issue may improve but will still be very noticeable. It will make you want to return the monitor because it is extremely noticeable on certain scenes and objects. You need to daily the monitor to be able to notice how bad the issue is. The neo g8 only makes sense if you manage to snag it at a very low price.
Sorry to hear that, I just received my Neo G8 from Samsung for $379 and I think I got lucky with my panel. I wouln't say that there is no scanline but at 240hz and 1008 formware, my scanline is barely noticable only with some blue background.
Scanlines are not firmware related. I have tried 3 of these with varying levels of scanlines..once you go to a website with dark and bright elements, you will want to throw away this monitor.
Hello Viktor! Thanks for the video, the content is great. How about the comparison of the AW3225QF vs the PG32UCDM?. I´d really like to hear your comments before I open my wallet for any of those or even vs the MSI MPG 321URX. I also heard that the Asus warranty support is not the best which is making me lean more forward to the Alienware.
Nice comparison, I currently use the Neo G8 but I have been eyeing one of the new oleds, mostly one of the 1440p 360Hz models. This gave me some serious food for thought. However I was a bit taken back by the apparent "yellow/green" tint of the Neo G8 in this comparison, why is that? Can you list any color settings in the description too?
It's not like that in person. It's just maybe the camera picked up the purple on the qd oled and I adjusted the Neo g8 the more warmer I got the greener it looked. No worries they both look great. Plus this is hdr on an sdr video so it's not 100% on dynamic visuals.
I don't know if you're aware of this or not but QD OLED will destroy any LCD technology when it comes to color brightness. You're always testing a white image. Well a highlight will not always be white. It will have shades of yellow and red and orange. And the qd OLED will simply outclass any technology when it comes to displaying those colored brightness. TFT central did an article about this sometime ago.
@@DisplayReality Interesting. So is OLED overrated? I currently have a G7 Odyssye with 8 edge lit dimming zones for HDR. I am planning to get a QD OLED(Odyssey OLED G6) for HDR. Will there be any difference?
@@msnehamukherjee hdr you will see a major difference. Tho in sdr mini led wins easily. Pixel perfect oled really shows itself especially vs 8 zones. Almost night and Day. The g7 is great in sdr and will give you more impact but nowdays hdr on console and pc is getting better and better.
Hey viktor, I have been seeing your vids since 1yr ago, I am from Mex, thanks for all you do, you are my top 3 best channels. What camera do you use for recording?
Love your comparisons! Always waiting for new video's from victor!. I got the neo g7 recently. Did u use sdr with local dimming on? HDR Doesnt matter to me. Keep on do good work ! My opiniom when i see this comparison the vibarancy and the hgher brightness looks better for me on neo g8 it pops more out of the screen for my eyes!! You know i waited a long time for the new o led 4k screens, and iam dissepointed when i see both the difference are very small! Its no wow factor or new era for me with the new qdoled. And please one question to you wich settings u using on ur neo g8? Color etc.. and gamma 1 2 or 3?
Congrats on your Neo G7. Local dimming on high for sdr and I belive it auto on for hdr. I like my image bright like seen here in helldivers 2 it looks awesome. Eve. The explosions look better in person as the camera does not do it justice. Gamma mode 2. Contrast on or off depending on if you like the impact it gives you. I like mine on standard color setting.
Viktor, I'd love to get your thoughts on what cables to use with these monitors. HDMI vs Displayport, also what cables do you use with these monitors. Do you use the stock cables or do you have your own set of cables you use?!
I just got the aw3225qf . It's the best display I've ever used. I'm shocked that people think OLED is dim. This one makes my eyes squint in certain conditions. I'm hooked on OLED now. Time will tell how burn in changes my mind. If I can at least make it through the 3 year warranty, I'll be a believer .
@@Yawarrior I can't imagine having a monitor much brighter. It would be almost painful to view. I think 50% more for glares and highlights would be ideal, but it's amazing already IMO
I have the neo g7, in sdr I use about 40% brightness and in hdr I use 100% but its honestly more than enough for me, I would be glad for stronger peak highlights but for Fullscreen its more than enough and honestly even hurts the eyes a bit on certain scenes, so I do not understand what is all the fuss about with needing higher brightness, sure for highlights I get it, but if the screen was even a bit brighter for for 50% window and above my eyes will bleed, its not a tv, you sit very close to it, for tv I could understand as you sit a few meters away. Imagine getting blasted 2000 nits when you sit less than a meter away from your monitor...
I found your channel not too long ago and I quite like these videos! I know it's a big ask but, would it be possible to do this in HDR using a higher dynamic range camera system - such as even a modern phone? I think people would really be able to tell these differences more evidently. Beyond 200 nits, SDR YT videos can't really show the differences all that well. I think most of us already have very good HDR phones in our AMOLED phone displays and some of us have HDR desktop displays. Also, dark room capture/ reducing the BG lights will greatly help increase the human perception of the higher dynamic range of said displays. Also, I presume you are aware of this: ambient light is typically used only in situations where you want to hide/ alleviate the perception of poorer dynamic range on said displays, which, I think is the opposite of what you're trying to achieve through your videos. For e.g., cinema colour grading is purposefully done in rooms with no light. I have not heard of/ seen a grading room that is lit for the purpose of colour grading - lights are turned off during work :) I do appreciate the presence of light to show gloss vs matte :) Thanks for doing this anyway!
@@DisplayReality I don't know if this helps but for recording/ streaming PC gameplay footage in HDR, I use Mirillis Action!. NVENC HEVC -> YT HLS -> 2160p HDR publish pipeline has worked like a charm for me. I do however understand that advanced editing workflows for in-camera HDR videos is a big challenge. Cheers.
Thank you for this amazing comparison, its very insightful, is there a possibility you can do another video but showing different games running on both these monitors, so we can see the differences in sdr and HDR. for example showing the difference between games that have a lot of dark scenes with a lot of lights like cyberpunk and watchdogs, and games like the witcher 3, or assassins creed odyssey where the environment is very bright.
Scanlines seem to vary in intensity. I have no issues nor do I see it. Even when I vs these I dont see any side by side. But I have seen other who have it really bad. It really depends on quality control. But these Neo G8s keep selling so its not a crazy issue
@@DisplayReality Thank you for your answer because it would mainly be for gaming, but I admit that the low brightness of the OLEDs puts me off a little
The neo G8 samsung mini LED much brighter and Vivd color, and the black looks great also, i would go with Mini LED always for bright image and better white color.
i bought a Samsung 42" OLED and returned it, bought a 39" LG OLED monitor and returned it, bought a Neo G8 32" and absolutely love it. I like the pure white better than the dim blue whites that the OLED gives and the ABL (Auto brightness limiter) was really annoying because i like my monitors bright cranked to 100% brightness. Going to get another Neo G8 32". Ill switch to OLED once the ABL is either non existent or fixed for monitors.
Did you try picture mode : DYNAMIC CONTRAST + HDR on the SAMSUNG ODYSSEY NEO 8 ? IMO DYNAMIC CONTRAST+ HDR on the Odyssey Neo G8 is the equivalent to OLED
I got my Neo G8 for $850 where as the QD OLED is like $1,400. Definitely not worth it especially when burn in can happen, No need for me to upgrade after seeing this video! Neo G8 is bright and punchy and blacks don't need to be perfect when gaming, Sometimes I have to use black equalizer because it gets too dark to the point where you can't see anything in some games lol
Not sure if that's a proper comparison when Neo G8 has so obviously oversaturated colors/profile selected. Should have been made more similar to OLED for better spotting of the differences. :/
I prefer more of these side to side comparisons video to give a better idea to the consumers what they can look out for when doing a big purchase. Thank you for this video!
I wholeheartedly agree. Dont get to see many realistic Mini-LED vs OLED videos that arent biased. Appreciate you my friend.

I upgraded from a Neo G7 (since it is literally the same but toned down panel from Neo G8) to the AW3225QF recently, and boy, I found this comparison to be exactly what I'm currently experiencing. Brightness is definitely a limitation on the QD-OLED but with HDR, it will certainly make games much more impactful and enjoyable.
exactly what i switched from also, yes the brightness is not as good, but everything else is better
@@paulmckeown2788 I'm also thinking of switching from my neo g7 haha, how do HDR games compare between the two monitors? Especially on brighter games like RDR2?
i have neo g7, worth the upgrade man?
HDR looks great on any QD OLED or w-OLED. While SDR can be hit or miss. Good thing it seems 3yrs seems to become the standard.on the warranty.
If you are mainly gaming and not using for work, it should be fine.
@@DisplayReality
Any manufacturer worth their salt will stand by their products.
Thx man.. the Neo G8 is very powerful. SDR looks like HDR with Local dimming on. Its a really good gaming monitor.
Hey. I'm thinking of buying the same monitor. How do you like your Neo G8? Did you have any issues? Are the scanlines as big of a issue as I hear?
This was a fantastic video, wish more reviewers would do side-by-sides like this. I honestly had expected the OLED monitor to blow the mini LED out of the water, but that really wasn't the case. To my eyes, these were my preferences:
*Scenes dominated by white or vibrant colors* (shots like flowers, lots of colorful clothing, pretty much anything outdoors in the daytime) - the mini LED looked significantly better.
Thx for your input. Oled will get there sooner rather than later. Within 2yrs we all will be satisfied.
@@DisplayReality "in 2 years we will all be satisfied" so would you say that it is a good advise to wait untill then to switch to OLEDs?
Fantastic comparison…the QD Oled white looks little greyish while Mini LED looks pure white… if possible pls do a video comparison in a normally lit room / daytime and see how it compares
Mini led looks like the "white" has a dirty tint of green/yellow while oled may not be pure white but it having a greyish tint is much clearer and more on track of proper white in my opinion between the two.
@@mr.cherry7747 the neo g8 looks yellow and the oled looks pure white. im wathcing on a new g8 too lol
really love your review.
Thx... More vs video coming soon friend.
Victor, I found your channel about a month ago, and man do I love your channel. I appreciate all you do. First thing I say when I get on youtube is "What's Victor got today"🤙
I'm still on the fence about what I'm going to purchase.
Nice! 🤣 Ill be uploading more for sure.. thx man..
You can buy a earc extractor to get sound from different ports. Most of these extractor support 3,5 jack and optical connections.
@@jinchan105 Thanks Man, could you link me to one that good?
Love how you compare them. Seriously, well done.
I would prefer the OLED, peak brightness is better in darker environments with other darker elements that are pixel perfectly lit, by no means is the G8 bad, but the winner is clear. When they release gen 4/5 panels, maybe we will finally see those brightness levels go up without impacting the longevity of the panels.
In any case, these are still too expensive for my budget range. :/
Thx man.. it was fun. Both are great but that QD OLED look nice! And I love my Neo G8..
I have neo g7 (same monitor except that it is 165Hz and less aggressive coating), and the HDR experience is FANTASTIC, very comparable to my C1
How is your G7 going buddy. I'm quite confused whether to Alienware or G7 as I mostly do PS5 gaming and some editing stuff??
I really wanna try an OLED as my new monitor but it has too many potential downsides that just push me towards the Mini-LED.
how many of you have the Alienware got a panel without scratches from the bubble wrap in the front?
I have the Neo G8 and I’ve been wanting to pull the trigger on a new 4K OLED but I think seeing how good I have it now and knowing that later this year there’s more competition coming, I think I’ll wait.
got to love when Display Reality says "Friends" makes ya feel right at home.
Am I the only one who prefers the MiniLED? :D Ok in night scenes OLEDs are better but in all other scenes is the opposite.
I feel the same. Mini LED gives you that impact. Picture impact that if set correctly looks really good.
Mini led is nice but not the neo sadly. EOTF is really bad. Loses details in shadows but over brightness alot what you can see even on the video. I dont k ow why samsung tuned it like this
@@vik4130 Nonsense. The Neo is a great monitor, if tuned correctly nothing beats it.

My LG C2 with a 4090 and the cheap prices rn just cant get me to go back to a monitor.
Great vid as always.
Wish you went into pixel response rates at different refresh rates. It’s one of the biggest OLED advantages.

Plus going 4k drop my framerate quite significantly so the G8 is just for streaming.
how the heck you are getting g8 for $379? in europe they cost 1k euro!
The G7 Neo is currently on sale on Samsungs website for $450. It has the same panel as the G8 just different finish and hz.
Congrats. Few questions : How's motion handling in 240hz any ghosting? is it 10bit color at 240hz?
Any scanlines now?
And whats the manufacturing date of your unit ? Maybe on their newer batches they fixed the scanline issue
Is it really fait to have a MATTE vs Glossy & mini led/qd od oled. So why is one better the finish or tech?
Were you using local dimming high pre-set on the Neo G8?
Yes on HIGH

QD OLED is best for gaming. I use a Nano IPS for work etc. For me this is the best use fit.
I got a neo g8 a few months ago and just got the AW to replace it.
I’ve never had a monitor that I’ve hated more.
It got to the point where I would get off of work and go to my LG OLED TV and it felt like a breath of fresh air every time so I thought it was time to get rid of it.
What didn't you like on the Neo G8?

Thx.. I dont why I said Alienware Aliens... 🤣 maybe I was thinking of the bugs in the game
Would be interesting to know which local dimming setting was used on the G8. My experience with a neo G7 on the newest firmware showed that high will blast small highlights with zero regard for blooming while auto has better blooming control but less brightness for small highlights. Definitely prefer high over auto with some light in the room.
It was on high. I just use the Neo G8 for gaming. Tho im on 2 firmwares behind the newest one
Good to know. Looks like the 1-2% brightness windows really do matter more than most would believe. Thanks for the comparison.@@DisplayReality
i have the ultrawide alienware oled and i have tried everything to keep it and its beautiful but i get a headache after about an hr of use it breaks my heart but i may have to go with the neo g8 anyone else had these eye problems with oled?
The clarity is easily seen on oled or qd oled for sure.
What great colors? VA will always have worse colors than IPS, only thing you improved on is contrast.
Hey saw LG had a firmware update to their mini led monitor. Can you cover this?
I will get this but waiting for it to go back to $799. It seems to have fixed the haloing issue.
@@DisplayReality Yeah I wanna see how good the fix is and I will probably get that.
Been Neo G8 user since day one and while it's been a great monitor I'd say there is definitely room for improvement. But you will never be happy so just use whatever works until it doesn't.
We will never be satisfied.. lol
There's a "slight" issue with this video. It's not uploaded in HDR.
Trying to get my editing software to process hdr currently. I will try very soon.
If I were going to get a 4K monitor right now, I would go with the Samsung Neo G8 because I don't game much anymore. Better text clarity, no worries about burn in, etc.
The g8 looks amazing. I was originally gonna get it but only reason I didn’t was because it would’ve been too heavy for my current monitor arm 😭
Can you tell me the best picture settings on odyssey neo g8 for details and black levels like an oled please?
Prices now are at $899 for the Neo G8 but I believe due to a refresh later this or next yr. Prob just smart features added.
Sorry to hear that, I just received my Neo G8 from Samsung for $379 and I think I got lucky with my panel. I wouln't say that there is no scanline but at 240hz and 1008 formware, my scanline is barely noticable only with some blue background.
I have no scanlines. I don’t know what people are talking about lol
They say the scanline issue is mostly solved with the new firmware updates. Is that true?
Scanlines are not firmware related. I have tried 3 of these with varying levels of scanlines..once you go to a website with dark and bright elements, you will want to throw away this monitor.
Hello Viktor! Thanks for the video, the content is great. How about the comparison of the AW3225QF vs the PG32UCDM?. I´d really like to hear your comments before I open my wallet for any of those or even vs the MSI MPG 321URX. I also heard that the Asus warranty support is not the best which is making me lean more forward to the Alienware.
Im waiting on actually being able to buy the PG32UCDM. As soon as I see it I will. I posted links for everyone (it sold out) I myself missed out. Lol
how good does downscaling work on these monitors. To 1080p or 1440p. How is the quality of the image with pixels stretched? thank you
1080p is ideal but even at 1440p to me for gaming is good. Nothing is stretched or to the point of obvious
@@msnehamukherjee the article was woled vs qd oled color brightness. Mini LED is way brighter and more impactful with colors vs any oled today.
@@DisplayReality Yeah HDR is the main reason I am upgrading. I dont like playing games in SDR TBH. Thank you for your input..
Hey viktor, I have been seeing your vids since 1yr ago, I am from Mex, thanks for all you do, you are my top 3 best channels. What camera do you use for recording?
Thx man.. I use Panasonic Lumix G7
@@DisplayReality thanks for the fast responce appriciate it
what about the scanlines on g8. Did u notice any ?
I never had an issue. I dont see any with my setup. In browsing or games. Many ppl say they do and do not have them. its still a hit or miss.
Viktor, I'd love to get your thoughts on what cables to use with these monitors. HDMI vs Displayport, also what cables do you use with these monitors. Do you use the stock cables or do you have your own set of cables you use?!
DisplayPort is better, gives more bandwidth. HDMI is for consoles mostly
Wish u compared the oled with ips mini led
Coming soon. LG Nano ips 27GP950, og G7 etc vs oled or newer mini leds
which monitor do you recommand for office (Text clarity) & fps gaming (HDR) ?
I would pick the qd oled. Its nicer for hdr gaming. Text is great too due to the glossy coating. Unless you need matte the glossy is nicer.
@@DisplayReality any reference please? I mean AW3225QF is the best right now even these issues especially shipping the monitor damaged?
The AW3225QF is really good as is the MSI. I trust Dell on fast service if needed.
would you swoop the gen 3 alienware or samsung g8 oled 4k 240 (G80SD)
?
@@LonewolfSZN I would keep the G80SD
I just got the aw3225qf . It's the best display I've ever used.
I'm shocked that people think OLED is dim. This one makes my eyes squint in certain conditions.
I'm hooked on OLED now. Time will tell how burn in changes my mind. If I can at least make it through the 3 year warranty, I'll be a believer .
Congrats!!🎉
@@DisplayReality Thank you ! Also, thank you for the wonderful content.
It’s super dim compared to my g8. I have 2 G8s and added the Alienware as my third monitor but thinking I might return it cause it’s so dim
I have not heard of/ seen a grading room that is lit for the purpose of colour grading - lights are turned off during work :)
I do appreciate the presence of light to show gloss vs matte :)
Thanks for doing this anyway!
I am just showing real world issues. My software is currently the issue on hdr recording. I am trying to record in hdr. Hopefully soon..
Cheers.
Thx friend. I appreciate the help. Ill look into it.
Viktor what's going on mate I would have thought you would have done G80SD Vs Alienware by now. It's what everyone is waiting for 😅
3 year burn-in warranty isn't long enough... it's still one of the reason's I wouldn't go anything OLED yet.
At leasr Yr on yr they are getting more durable. But I feel you on not upgrading yet.
Good video. While the g8 is brighter overall it loses detail in that brightness.
Sure... I will have some more soon. Sdr and hdr thx.. I will have a true black 400 hdr vid soon. Prob vs the LG w-OLED until more QD OLEDs arrive.
@@DisplayReality Thank you so much this is much appreciated, I look forward them, and keep up the amazing reviews, they really do help us a lot.
Hello, does the G8 still have a scanline problem? because I'm hesitating between Alienware and the G8 for gaming😓
Scanlines seem to vary in intensity. I have no issues nor do I see it. Even when I vs these I dont see any side by side. But I have seen other who have it really bad. It really depends on quality control. But these Neo G8s keep selling so its not a crazy issue
@@DisplayReality Thank you for your answer because it would mainly be for gaming, but I admit that the low brightness of the OLEDs puts me off a little
Nope. had mine for years now, no scanlines
The neo G8 samsung mini LED much brighter and Vivd color, and the black looks great also, i would go with Mini LED always for bright image and better white color.
Does the aw3225 still have hdr problems? I wanna buy one, but not if it's bugged still
New firmware arriving next week that fixes dolby vision on or off. I say its a good time to buy or wait for a sale prob in late may or sept.
i bought a Samsung 42" OLED and returned it, bought a 39" LG OLED monitor and returned it, bought a Neo G8 32" and absolutely love it.
Hi sir i have a AW3225qf i have a question do i need or is much better to set my brightness to 100 before enabling the hdr(1000)
Hdr peak 1000 is a set profile. We cannot change once its enabled.
Hello Vik. 😊
Hey Michael! :)

Si no aparece dejame saber..
Did you try picture mode : DYNAMIC CONTRAST + HDR on the SAMSUNG ODYSSEY NEO 8 ? IMO DYNAMIC CONTRAST+ HDR on the Odyssey Neo G8 is the equivalent to OLED
Ill check that thx. It does look good with that local dimming for sure..
the white color is off on qd oled becuase it's dim it's the exact reason I returned it
I got my Neo G8 for $850 where as the QD OLED is like $1,400.
That black equalizer feature is awesome right. It comes in handy for sure when needed.
1200 for a QD oled monitor. Always they are talking about burn in but they use smartphone with amoled screen since 10 years😆
Not sure if that's a proper comparison when Neo G8 has so obviously oversaturated colors/profile selected. Should have been made more similar to OLED for better spotting of the differences. :/
Victor could you do also one comparision between does 2 but then in sdr 😅
Sure friend no problem..
Are the two monitors calibrated with the same color profile? Doesn't look like to me to be honest
QD OLED has a display wavelength issue showing purple on cameras. Its really hard to get qd ole vs anything to look even.
It would be great if you compared text clarity and productivity usage as well.
Why would anyone buy a VA panel for productivity tho, this is IPS territory
G8 has horrible scanline issue that has never been fixed. Also you can see the massive difference on pixel refresh response time when you freeze frame
True... qd oled is now king on panel response.
Actually wrong
