Good job
The pump in the link, does not work with the original pump housing
What if your blue wire broke off(corroded?) right after the guard over it where it plugs into the pump motor?
You are a lifesaver! I have a family of 5 and I do laundry everyday. Four days ago my washer went out at 5am 😒 I found your video right away. Dissected the washer, nothing was in the pump, put it all back together but the pump sounded horrible. We ordered a new pump which came in the longest four days of my life. 😆 I installed the new pump all by myself (with your help) today and it's running like a brand new machine. I feel like one accomplished momma! I'm happy to have leaned a new skill and even happier to get caught up on our laundry tonight. Thank you so much!
I am so glad this helped you out!
Thanks Jake, you just guided my husband on how to fix my washer drain pump replacement. $90 job and I had a guy scheduled to come out on Monday with service charge of $155 and with pump cost, (no telling what he would have charged for the pump) Anyway it was easy, and couldn’t have done it without your video. Thanks so much for taking your time to show us how to fix our own things instead of getting ripped off by dishonest people. Thanks again!
There was no blockage in tube
This video is the real deal, saved me money and time with not needing to wait on an appliance guy. Warning, drain as much of the tub as possible as when you disconnect the hose to the pump you are going to have a gallon or so pour out. I emptied the tub completely and still had this problem. Culprit was a bobby pin.....
I never comment - but I have to say: THANK YOU. It was metal collar savers for me. Six of them. This has been an on and off problem for months. Very grateful.
This was crazy. I was not getting the OE error code, but everything else matched up. Same washing machine. Same problem. I followed all your steps and when I looked in, sure enough, it looked like a paper clip in there too. I was thinking "NO WAY!!!" It turned out that it was a sewing needle in my drain pump. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for posting this.
So grateful for the handy people that post solutions that help others. This video was a money saver. I loved how you listed the type of tools needed. That was so helpful!!! I was able to get my pump out but didn't find anything lodged inside. I ordered a new pump on Amazon and installed it successfully. I am now doing my laundry. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! So grateful for this video!!!
Do you have a link to the replacement you purchased. I think mine is going out. Thanks

@@Cheyenne9663 Thanks. It's on its way!
I didn't find anything inside of mine either. If it's the pump, then that's a relatively cheap fix.
Thanks for the help! I was able to fix my washer using this video. I found three nails in the pump.
**Only word of advice: even though I got all the water out of the tub - make sure you have another small bucket and a bunch of towels available when you remove the hoses from the pump. I had another gallon of water come out as soon as I popped off the hose pump.
Hey Jake, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I had the OE error so I took a look at the pump. Interestingly, the pump was clear but when I removed the blue wire, the wire just came off of the connector. It was corroded where the wire attaches to the connector under a plastic hood. Rusted through. (My washer is 10 yrs old and the wire connector is different than yours) I soldered it back on replaced the plastic hood and sealed it with a dab of silicone. I also needed to put a little sealant on the hose connections to the pump. The factory had some kind of sealer there that was dried up and preventing a waterproof seal when I put them back on. All is well now. Thank you!
This video saved my butt!!! Had the same exact issue except what was stuck in my pump was the discarded portion of a rivet. Cannot thank this person enough. Hope this helps someone as it has helped me. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you! This made it a lot easier to fix.
An added note for anyone unable to drain their washer all the way: Because the short hoses connecting to the pumps are soft, I was able to hand pump most of the water out of the system by squeezing the drain hose rapidly, like CPR. The little that remained in the system wasn't hard to clean off my floor.
Thank you for the video! You gave us the confidence to take our washer apart. We followed the steps you laid put, and we found some metal objects where you found the paper clip. Now the washer works and we saved ourselves some money! Thank you!!
This video is 6 years old but our washing machine has lasted us a long time and I have almost this exact model. It just finally stopped pumping and I was able to use this video to extract and replace the pump. I found this video more useful than the other ones that exist because of how you filmed exactly what was going on.
Even though it's many years later, I appreciate the effort to document this because I, at least for now, don't need to spend money on a new washing machine. $85 for the part and hopefully it lasts a number of years longer.
I paid $45 for the same exact make, model and manufacturer for my pump on Amazon
THANKS BIG TIME !!! I didn't know what I was going to do. When my 3 year old LG top loader stop in the middle of a wash cycle, left me with an error code "OE" and a 1/2 tub of water. I got out the manual and realized the code had to do with draining. I am fairly handy but I've never worked on a washing machine and I had a feeling this was a major deal. Regardless, I figured the first thing I had to do was get the water out of the tub. One thing I'd like to mention is that my washer is located right next to the door into my house 2 steps up from the garage. I put a 5 gallon bucket on the garage floor, took the drain tube out of the wall, I put the palm of my hand over the end of the tube as I lowered it into the bucket and the machine started to drain. As the bucket got close to filling I put my hand back over the tube end and put the drain hose back in the wall while I dumped the bucket. I repeated this process 3 more times and the all but about a cup of water had drained from the machine. I found your video and thought I'd try to make the repair and amazingly I found a 3 inch aluminum removable nose bridge from a COVID MASK that I had neglected to take out when I washed the mask stuck and wedged in the pump. I pulled it out and the impeller free so I reconnected everything and put the clothes back in and started a new wash cycle and the machine worked perfectly. Something I'd like to add is from the manual I learned about the "tub clean" feature that LG recommends everyone does once a month. It is a simple and easy cycle to run. Heck, I didn't know about this and I felt this was probably the reason for the drain issue but actually the pump and the hoses looked really clean. I am amazed the nose bridge piece made it out of the tub. Thanks again for your great video jakeguitar01.
I was very skeptical of whether tapping the little boxes and hoping one of them was the relay box, but to my surprise it worked! I have to say this lg washer has been the weirdest washer we've ever owned and I don't know where we would be without your awesome fixes on TH-cam! 👍👍👍
I just tried this with my mom's washer, different model couldnt remove the pipes on the inside but is working ! No obstructions that I could see.
Thanks so much it was a 5 minute fix!
You are a savior sir. This is the first video I have found that actually helps!!! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much for this video!! I am a 63yr old woman and I replaced this drain pump myself. When I tested it and it went into drain mode - that was the most beautiful sound in the world !! 😊
I just wanna say thank you!
I was googling troubleshooting steps for my washer forever and just when I was about to give in and call a tech I found your video. I was able to find the culprit in the drain pump and all is good now!
Again, thank you so much!
Dude. Thanks so much. This totally worked for us and saved us a bunch of money on having a repair person come out! Much appreciated~
Thank you so much for this video. It was super super helpful. I had a child’s sock stuck in there 🤦🏽♂️!
I envied you for having the little pump that made draining the water all that easy for you. Little note to everyone :
get a lot of towels and a couple of buckets ready when you unplug the drain pipes from the pump.
Thank you again!
No problem, thanks for watching!
Very helpful video. Thanks! I could not see an obstruction in mine, so I had to take the pump apart. It was very easy - lift a plastic "clip" on the side of the pump and then turn it clockwise. Upon doing that, a sewing needle fell out. I put everything back together and was good to go. To drain the tub, I mostly dipped it out. I think what might have worked better and quicker would be to remove the plastic piece that holds the hose as it leaves the washer, then just lower the drain end of the drain hose into a bucket (or whatever). It can be raised again to stop the flow. I did this to get the last of the water out of the tub/pump. There was quite a lot of water remaining after dipping it out.
I will be doing this tomorrow after work. I drained my washer as much as I could tonight but now I’m exhausted and found this so round 2 of saving my washer and wallet tomorrow! Wish me luck!!
I watched your video last night. It helped me fix our washer! Found stuff inside the water pump! Assembled everything back and its working. Thanks a lot !! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
If you're in the Sacramento area message me. I'd love to buy you a beer. We were literally looking for a new washer when I ran across this. You literally saved me the price of a new washer. You rock my friend!!
Thank you very much for your video. I fixed my machine by following your steps and save me $200. Well done
Thank you for this video. Instead of a paperclip I had a bobby pin in my pump. It was more difficult getting into that area in order to remove it than this video shows, but the concept was all the same and now everything is in working order again. Salute!
Thank you for the detailed video. It was amazing to know what exact socket to use etc. Thank you for the big assist in fixing our washer extremely fast.
Thank you. Extremely helpful. I went through the whole video first and followed your process.
I found a sock in the pump!! Once I removed it and reversed your process ...... success ..... I have the Washing Machine running again. Thank you.
Thanks for making the video, which gave me the confidence to do this fix (there was a sock in the pump). Thanks also to the commenters for the tip on using a shop vac first to suck the remaining water out of the tub and then to suck the water up when you detach the hose (from the tub) to the pump. Using the vacuum there was very little water on the floor. Like other commenters, the pump on my particular model was different than the video, and was held down with screws, not bolts. Still it was in the same location with the same hose positions. I did not have to detach the pump from the machine to pull the hose off and take out the sock.
If your machine is sitting in a drain pan, be sure to search for the videos that show how to use PVC pipe to easily and safely lift the machine out of the pan to where you can work on it.
About 35 years ago I had a washer that regularly sucked little socks into the pump. I got really good at extracting them. I can't believe 35 years later they have not solved this problem!
Great video and insight. I did not have to remove the pump BUT even though the tub was empty of water there was a lot still in the bottom area below the tub and in the lines. So soak up towels are a must especially if your in a condo like me. A small screw was logged in the pump and I was able to get it without removing the pump. Thanks again.
Hi Jake, just saw your video this morning and was very helpful, my washer was a LG WT-R854 model it had 2 screws instead of bolts but same pump, i found a rivet stem inside.
my wife now thinks i am a legend, only problem now is she wants me to start fixing other things around the house.
Nice work! Remember, if you want to know something, almost anything can be found on google or TH-cam. These days there is no excuse to be ignorant or to not know how to do something. All the answers you need can be found in seconds....
Thanks for the video Jake, Just found a broken drill bit. After bailing the tub, wringing the clothes and a bunch of bath towels to soak up the flood when we took the hose off, it's all fixed. Wish I had a bilge pump. Glad I found your video.
Great video, this morning I had an OE error. One sock later the pump was back on and running perfect.
Thank you!!!!
I appreciate your video, drained water, pulled motor and it worked when plugged directly into AC power...oh my...went to reassemble everything and discovered one of the power wires was broken, the blue wire you mentioned. Repaired wiring and running fine now! Thank you for the video...it helped
M Turner don’t you mind to tell me where did you get the replacement?? Thanks.
Thanks so much for this video!! I am a She and I do everything in my house the most it possible. Thanks
Thanks so much for your video, especially since you talked a little faster and more directly to the problem than some videos people post. I have the same machine and I bought the dryer that matches. They never gave me a problem until they were a few years old. My problem was a little more difficult due to the fact I didn't measure the width of my laundry room when I purchased the washer and dryer so therefore I had to arrange them in my laundry room a certain way. There was no easy way to remove the washer in order to get the back off. I had to remove the exhaust to my dryer and move it over and then pull out the washer to work on it. Anyway I kept getting the same OE code and once before I had cleaned the drain pipe thinking I had fixed the problem. It worked for about 3 washer loads and then the OE code pops up again. Your video is exactly what I needed to view because our machines are identical. I will now go a little further and remove the back of my machine to get to the pump itself and hopefully have my problem solved. Thanks again!
This is a great video. I'm not sure how you ended up with a dry pump though. I emptied the tub from the top until it was basically dry, but when I remove a hose from the pump at least 2 gallons of water came pouring out.
You just saved me another service call. There were nails in the drain (most probably from my jean pocket). Had the repair man come once and then it clogged again. Was about to make that second call, but then found your video. Found a couple more nails in the drain and one in the pump. Your video made it really easy to fix! Thanks
Accessed the pump, an ankle sock found its way through and was blocking the pump. Removed and it worked. Note : The washer when reloading with wet clothes, it senses ALOT of water is needed , way more than necessary . If reloading wet clothes, be sure to use about 1/4 of the original load or it will be a nail biter watching the water fill to the top .
Thanks a million for your video! I was able to feel confident enough to remove the pump myself and I discovered there was a finishing nail that was stopping the pump from working. Hooked it back up and it's working again!
COOL! Glad it worked for you!!
It worked! I could not believe it when we took our pump apart and found a peice of METAL! It was a piece of chain link fence about 1.5 inches long! Thank you for saving us time and money!
Thank you so very much i would have paid a lot of money for such easy steps you are a life saver may God bless you BIG UP my brother watching from South Africa
Great washer fix walkthrough. Well done video.
Thank you so very much. Our appliance warranty service was going to be a week to come you explained it so calmly and simply, I felt capable of giving it a shot. I am a creative person and other than determination have no machine solving experience. I fixed it had almost exact metal paper lip in pump. Save me $150.00 my hero jan
Thank you sir! You saved me a $190 Service call. Took me about 20 minutes..largely just dealing with the water.
Great video! We basically had the same problem that you described in the video and were able to borrow a bilge pump which helped us get the water out more quickly and then got to the pump and found a bobby pin lodged in it. Really appreciated your detailed and informative video which helped us solve the problem ourselves and get the washer working again without an expensive repair person. Thank you!
+Beth Hoffer. ------> Excellent! Glad it helped...
I followed your steps and found a nail jamming the pump. Took it and worked as usual thanks
Thank you so much. I am a 54 yr old woman and can’t move too well. I followed you step by step and I did it. You are fantastic. How much do I owe you 😂
Thank you so much for this video!! We found a tiny key in the pump. You saved us a whole lot of money, time, and worry.
Your video was so helpful, THANK YOU! I found the video after ordering a new washer. After my husband watched it ONE hr later our machine was working fine❗️Ours was full of SAND 🙄
Nice video thanks. I have a few things to add. As far as draining the machine is concerned, if you have a floor drain or door to the outside you can just place a small shop vac hose on the washers outlet pipe and when you lower the washers outlet pipe it will flow freely until the tub is almost empty, You can then just suck out the rest with the shop vac. Also my machine was a little different when the pump was supposed to run I could hear a motor running but nothing pumped out.I looked in the pump suction but the impeller was free and could easily spin, but I went ahead and bought a replacement pump. When the pump arrived I had to turn the washer on the side because instead of bolts holding the motor there were 2 screws that could only be reached from the bottom, this actually made the job easier and it took less than 15 minutes start to finish to remove and reinstall the pump. It worked perfectly. I was curious about what was wrong with the pump. I disassembled the pump and found that the impeller was spinning freely because the motor shaft had corroded and broke.
This was a great instructional video!!! In our case, it was the blue wire that got "fried". We fixed it, checked the hose pump for any blockage (there was none) and low and behold, once we put everything back, we did a test run and works just fine. Thanks again!!!
This...mine same exact thing. Blue wire seemed to have broke free. Poor design on the spade. Put a new one on and all good.
Cleared a Bobby pin from the pump without even removing it thanks to this video. Just pulled off the hose leading to the pump, felt around with my finger and used a magnet to remove the pin. Took me longer to drain the tub than anything else. Using the drain hose to siphon out the water worked well for me. Thanks so much for this video!!!
Great video. It was an easy fix. I didn't have to take the motor loose only the hose. It had a piece of plastic stuck in it. Thanks!
Thank you for uploading this, it was extremely thorough and helpful!! Just pulled a Bobby pin out of our pump/hoses and would have definitely screwed something up if not for this vid!
Have a Samsung with OE code - your video will most likely work just as well for Samsung. Thanks for posting this! Cheers from Canada!
Edit: Turns out our Samsung set up was almost exactly the same, right down to the flexible plastic cover. Same blue and white connectors in exactly the same spot. Got it all apart and initially I was disappointed that there was no blockage nor did it appear anything was interfering with the pump. On closer inspection I was happy to see what I thought was a piece of wire. Turns out it was one of my daughter's earrings! It fell out easily and the pump spun as expected. Put everything back together and tossed in a load of laundry and everything is working fine! Thanks again for the video!
Perfect instructions. I took mine apart and found a piece of a zipper. Pulled it out and now its perfect. Thanks...
This video is awesome, helped me out. I didn’t find a paper clip but I did find a little piece of metal from a shirt. Now my washing machine works perfectly. Thank you for this video
I wanted to take the time to thank you for this video tutorial. I have a very similar machine, model WT5680HWA, that starting throwing this error code tonight during a wash. I dove into the pump and found a small sock just before the pump inlet fitting. When the hose came off it was right there. It was difficult to get all the water out of the tub, so to those that will do this, expect to get some water (I got A LOT) when you pull the hoses, even if our tub is almost empty. I had plenty of towels ready just in case, and I'm glad I did. Again, thank you!
Steven G. I have the same washer, currently having issues with it leaking. Thought it was pump but could be something with the bleach compartment syphon. It doesn’t give me an error but now the water temperature button option on the panel is not responding. Frustrating! Never had an issue with it before.
Thanks so much. Found a piece of metal in mine, you saved me a lot of money from having to call a tech.
God bless you.
TH-cam for the win again. Thanks for the help. I had a small nail in mine. Gotta remember to clean out pockets 😅
Just wanted to send a huge thanks for posting this video - fixed my washer!
Jake, thanks to your video I was able to retrieve a now bent metal collar stay from the pump, which was acting just like your paperclip. Thank you so much for taking the time to show the rest of us how to repair this error code - keep up the good work!
+Nicolas Thorley ---> Glad it helped and thanks for watching!
Awesome. Had a similar issue yesterday and this guide helped to resolve it. Saved me a tech visit.❤
This video helped me fix my washer, there was a game coin stuck in the first hose I disconnected from the pump. Thanks!!
Jake,
I just found this VIdeo, Your video helped me a lot. I had the same problem and I found a small nail jammed into the propeller. Just wanted to say thanks
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the GREAT post. It put us back in action. The details with which tools to have on hand was awesome. I went through the motions and I removed the discharge line 1st and I could clearly see a blockage at 1st it looked like a wet wipe, or a fabric softener sheet. Removed the pump totally and it was one of our grandkids socks. Apparently with the perfect conditions that little sock got past the agitator. You saved me aggravation and $$$. Thanks pal !!!
Thanks for watching. Glad it helped ..
No more 'OE' error! Thank you so much for this video.
I just wanna give mad props to this tutorial because I'm too poor to buy a new washer and this saved my ass. Found a rivet broke off in the spinner. Once it was freely moving it worked again. 🤙
Love the video it really helped ! I had a sock wrapped in my pump somehow pulled it right out and works now
Thank you for this video! It saved me a lot of time and money! I followed this along and my machine is running like new again.
Thank you for this video - totally saved us from having to pay for a repair. I'm a little worried about not having glue on that hose once I reattached but I think it will hold. Turns out it was a shirt collar stay (made of metal) clogging up the pump! Crazy.
Exactly the same for me, Katie! Stupid metal collar stays! This tutorial rocks!!
Thanks mate. This worked for me. Now the wife thinks I'm a real man for fixing stuff.
I am glad I stumbled upon your video. Did exactly what you said and low and behold I found three rice tends that I had in my pocket so none would run it over. They found their way down to the pump and it is running perfecto now. THANKS!
Thank you for making this video! I found a rusty nail in my pump. You saved me a lot of money!
Cool thanks cobber. I found a chunk of metal in mine too and now shes all good.
Thank you so much. This saved us a lot of $$ from hiring a repairman, & it only took me 20 minutes to fix thanks to your video tutorial. A small infant rag had gotten stuck in the exact location as your paper clip 😃
Thank you! I had the same issue last night. I watched your video and found a Bobby Pin in my pump. Machine is working well now!
Thank you, this helped me clear the drain pump of a piece of metal. Although I did learn a lesson that even though the tub looks empty, that hose and tub will still contain 3 to 5 gallons of water.
+crossmenjeff ---> YES! There is definitely still water in the tub that you cannot see. Also, the hose contains a decent amount of water, so if u disconnect it, water will be on your floor.
I really enjoyed the video. The way you found a solution to the problem was brilliant and superb. I also liked the way the video was laid out and explained step by step. Great job.
+It's Fire Sighn ----> Thanks so much! I had no idea what I was going to find or what I was doing when I started. I just recorded it, just in case I figured it out.
Had same issue...removed the incoming line hose on the pump...nothing...prop moved freely...checked outgoing...nothing..reassembled and ran just fine...for now. I think I will still have repair guy check it out. At least I can get a load or two done in the meantime. Thanks for the video.
Thank you. Followed your video and found 2 metal collar stays clogging our pump. Luckily no damage and machine is working perfectly. Thanks again!
Jake you the best I follow the same on a Kenmore elite..it work I had a socks stuck in there. Very details and simple you the best you saved me 350$ great job
Thank you for that posting this. You sir, are a legend! :D. It gave me the confidence to take on my LG WT-H750. I did not see an error message as I generally ignore it's mid wash beeping. Would not drain. Buzzed. After water removed in tub, it still spun so I narrowed it down to a likely pump issue. Anyway, did the following.
Unplugged from power and disconnected hoses. Then bucketed out the water from inside and then I chocked up the washing machine (bricks would do) so I could fit a deep baking tray under the pump area of the machine. I only part opened the pump filter so I was able to shut as I filled the baking tray. 7 trays worth emptied (about 28L). Then fully removed and filter checked. No obstruction. I removed the water removal hose to check for any obstructions there too - none found. Removed the back off the washing machine using philips head screwdriver. The pump is different to yours but same principle. Took photos of pump and wiring. Removed 2 x wires from pump. Removed hose from pump (sat a tray under edge of washing machine and pump to catch any extra water) by squeezing clamp and moving then pulling hose off. Removed screws x3 from outlet of pump on outside of machine. Removed pump from machine. White casing does not seem to come off. Still, longer flat head screwdriver managed to facilitate removal of 3 screws (photo where screws sitting/orientation of pump magnet area to impeller area). Access to impeller area gained. Wiped clean inc washer. Removed lime green zip end that had been lost in the machine for 8 months but only caused issue 2 nights ago. Put everything back together. Machine now works perfectly again.
My next step, prior to putting it back together if there was no obstruction found in the impeller, was to take the pump unit over to the local appliance guy and borrow his ohmmeter for a few mins to check if the pump electricals were stuffed as to whether or not to order a new pump.
LG live chat had been utterly useless in even telling me how much water the second barrel would hold (1-2L = no, try 28). 45 mins to be told of the pump filter location and then told to get a technician. Utterly useless. I watched your video during the inordinate waiting times I was experiencing with these useless sods.
So, thank you from Australia. This gave me the confidence to take on the machine. Otherwise would have cost me about $100 call out fee and then labour and, if they were not thorough then I would have been up for about $90 more on a new pump.
Very helpful!! Especially since the LG website was not. We had a metal collar-stay jammed into the motor of ours! 🤷♂️
I just saw this comment opened mine up and yep same exact thing! Lol LG needs a collar stay trap in the next model apparently
Same happened to me lol
This video saved me hundreds of dollars! Thank you so much! A tiny nail was my find!
Thanks for video. Very helpful! Hairpin got stuck in pump. I've got Samsung machine and same solution applied. Happy new year (better new year) and greetings from South Africa
A damn nail was stuck! Thank you for the great video saved me a major headache was about to go buy a new washer since I’m deploying and didn’t want to leave the family without a washer
Thank you for this video. Our washer had the same issue. I don’t know how it happened but there was a sock in the hose on the inlet side of the pump.
Crazy. Thanks again sir!
Thank you, just fixed mine. One small piece was hard stuck in the pump, thanks alot!
Thanks a million!! Your instructions were excellent and precise. We had a piece of plastic that got stuck. You definitely saved us a from a repair bill.
Thank you very much for an awesome training video on how to unclog a LG washer machine, blessings…
Thanks for the tip my motor had a soda can tab stuck in it . I'm back in business thank you Sir!
You're amazing thank you. Found some stuffing/fuzz in the pump and although it doesn't seem like such a small amount would mess it up it did, works perfectly now!
Thank you so much for this video. Didn't find a clog, but I followed these steps and it's working again! Life saver.
I didn't find a clog either. You just removed it, looked, found no clog, re-installed and it did start draining?
Any update?
You are awesome. Thank you so much for addressing my exact problem as well as your step by step DIY.
Thank you so much-was totally our problem & we are back in business. It was my shirt/collar metal pins jammed in there.
Thanks so much for your video. My machine is a different model but all the same i guess. I managed to fix the OE fault but the problem was within the filter itself. Your video showed me the way to remove the assembly and I went from there. Thanks.
This worked and fixed the error code! There was a collar clip lodged in the pump, lol. Thx!
