Arrowhead hunting TN - Masterpiece of a motley along with 12 other fine TN artifacts!

  • My first vacation of the year was a staycation. The majority of these finds were from that week of mostly hunting. The pine tree at the beginning of the video has become one of my new favorite little go to spots. its never produced anything newer than early archaic, and only couple transitional pieces. its an old site for sure. The motley at the end was found at the last spot after a long day of hunting. I almost didn't hunt that spot, but figured I might as well hit up one more spot before heading home. Best decision I made that whole week! Thanks for checking out the newest video. Please like and subscribe to keep up with my regularly uploaded videos.

      Thanks man! That’s how I like to recover them.. as they slowly reveal themselves! It pains me to think of some of these artifacts being washed away into the murky depths of the water had I, or someone else not walked by and picked it up. Although some would argue that they be left alone to just wash away. Ouch.. I just can’t! Haha thanks for checking it out!

    • @Points365
      @Points365  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks buddy! The areas that produce the high quality pieces of the archaic and older seem to be everyone else’s favorite places to hunt as well. It gets hunted pretty hard. But I just get out there on my off days, looking around in peoples footprints, and come up with one every now and then! It’s crazy to see the pieces some people walk right past! I pulled a 4” blade last wknd that was less than 6” from someone’s footprint. Haha No telling what’s been pulled out of my footprints over the years! Thanks as always for taking the time to watch and comment buddy!

I don’t have a lot of space to display my finds though, so having so many neatly laid out in a relatively small area probably makes it seem unimpressive. Really enjoy your archaic & earlier finds, the Alpha/Omega / the first & the last. Your style of presentation makes for a nice visual delivery great to hear the birds & the water, and not a bunch of shoveling, sifting & hooting & yelling every time something is found.. The serrated tool at 9:35 is interesting, the butt end having the fine serrations which look to diminish towards the point, like a repurposed well worn unit made into a small finger saw/ awl /perforator/multi tool, same goes for the piece at 15:00 broken tip re- worked & carefully beveled like a small mini adze & the thicker ears suggest use as a small spokeshave for finer work.Where i live I've seen local Paiute/Shoshone basket makers use points with different sized ears, used like a draw knife/ spoke shave to render long thin strips off of small green branches from rose hips, willow & other plants in weaving their baskets & their favorite eared points/ spokeshaves always seems to have a broken ear from use. anyway another fine Video,, I can't wait to Visit S/W Tennessee to see my Daughter and Grandbaby & hopefully walk some creeks & river shorelines at low tide..

    • @Points365
      @Points365  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man, I appreciate it as always. But that piece at the 9:35 mark you mentioned.. I thought it was interesting how the finer serrations were at the base of that tool. I found that interesting myself. So many of these pieces we find often leave more questions than answers. Speculation is all we have it seems!
      SW TN is indeed a hotspot! Every creek down that way just looks like it has the potential the be loaded! Thanks again for the comment and taking the time to check it out.

The first artifact in my next video coming out this Thursday was found in literally the exact same spot. It’s fluted, but I’m not really sure what type of point it is? Thank you! That spot that I found it at has over the past 6 months, become one of my big producers of archaic and older pieces. In my next video, there will be a little fluted piece in it that I found there. I’m not really sure what type it is? It has a greenbrier look to it, but I don’t know if they would have fluting on them? I’m sure someone will chime in and help me out in identifying it! Thanks as always for watching!

      Thanks again! This past April was a crazy month for artifacts. I still haven’t caught up yet with making more videos. My next video coming out tomorrow is another video full of more April finds! I too enjoy the sound of all the birds I get to hear out on the water. It’s one of the many reasons I enjoy being out there taking it all in! Thanks as always!

      That’s crazy! There is an artifact called a TN saw thats found around these parts. I’ve only seen a few of them in other collections, but they are big, toothy, and quite impressive! I’m hopeful to find one eventually. Thanks for checking out the finds man!

      Thanks man, I appreciate it! Now that you mention it, I do feel like I’ve found a lot more pines recently than I used to. I’m not complaining! There are a few spots I frequent that are big pine tree producers for me. It’s crazy how some spots you find mostly kirks. Then another spot mostly adenas. Big sandys at another Etc etc.. I guess when they liked a style they stuck with it! Haha but thanks again man, and i appreciate you checking it out. Good luck out there yourself!

      Thanks buddy! The thought of what is laying just beneath the surface is literally always on my mind as I’m trudging across the mud. It’s what keeps me coming back over and over! You never know what’s going to reveal itself the next time you get out! I found a neat little fluted piece where I found that pine tree. It has a greenbrier look to it. I don’t recall seeing a fluted greenbrier though. So I’m not really sure what kind it is? It’ll be in the next video. Hopefully someone will chime in and help out a label on it for me! Thanks as always for taking the time to watch and comment. I really appreciate it!

    Killer Motley!
    There's another tribe of unimaginative people. Just the thought that hundreds or even thousands of people made the exact same point, nearly flake-for-flake, for upwards of several hundred years, boggles my mind!. If this were just one tribe of copycats that couldn't think outside the box, I could understand. But we see it over, and over, and over.... It would be like if Benjamin Franklin made a Motley. What are the chances your Great Grandson would make the same exact Motley?? I'll never wrap my head around that... And I'm not buying the whole, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" idea. Not for 300 to 500 years. Something doesn't add up.
    Anyhoo, killer find bro.

    • @westho7314
      @westho7314 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what i dont understand is with all the descriptive words we have to choose from in our language, why so many people refer to their favorite objects as "Killers" or "smokers" i mean is it a culture or tribe of unimaginative speakers.. just does not add up.. yeah some of these points, darts, projectiles, spear and arrowheads are created to kill things, others are utilitarian multi tools fashioned in the shape of projectiles, likely because the aerodynamic shape is appealing or attractive & useful as a knife, spoke shave, scraper, awl proojectile point and many other uses. Different stone/rock materials all have different workable characteristics working Petrified Wood as opposed to working Obsidian or Chert all 3 materials have a different molecular structure and the approach to rendering them is different & a learned skill requiring of practice to achieve consistancy knowing the stone..thats why the end result always looks so similar whether knapped for big game, birds or rodents, there is a common theme.
