Hi Ryan! Great Channel
batteries are not as reliable as engines. mechanical stuff is more reliable than electronic stuff this is common sense also easier to fix and 15,000 isnt enough people to be relevant data.
@@billybobbob3003 wrong, wrong and wrong. LOL
@@robkaOK battery packs are more complex than engines more parts to fail.
“A new study from Recurrent”. The date says March of 2023 😂😂
A model 3 hatchback would be a perfect car for me.
Me too for a hatchback and I’ll take a Tesla van also please.
Hatchbacks are basically a no go in the U.S. They seem to be popular in Europe. Also, planning future sales around tax credits seems silly, since the credits will likely be gone in five years.
@@darylfoster6133 disagree. See all the many SUVs everywhere which are Hatchbaacks.
@@jackarnold3290 SUV and car are two different things. Show me cars in America that come in a hatchback version.
A model 3 hatchback would be an awesome vehicle.
Yes instant buy ever more with new batterie
Can we presume that it will have the other advantages of the Highland 3? (particularly NVH improvements)
Model 3 hatchback?!!!! With gigacasting and 4680 cells? It's my dream car and it's just what the Highland upgrade should have been. Was considering getting a new Model 3. Now I'll wait.
Same!
100% agree. I was hoping hoping hoping the Highland was going to be a hatch, but I was let down by Tesla once again. I LOVE my '19 M3P, and the only reason I'm considering moving up to a Model Y Performance is the Hatchback.
@@zmarko Still, I'm prepared to be disapointed by Tesla yet again. After all, for some reasons everybody wants an SUV nowadays: why should Tesla make another sedan?
Same! Unless my cyber truck reservation will be ready and I'm in a position to buy it then
Add ventilated seats and I am sold
I put a hitch on mine and now do large hauls using a small cargo trailer. The looks i get are priceless.
Shame he's just fired all his Supercharger staff and cancelled all new EV station builds!
Would u build a third garage with two current ones half full? Shaving cost where he can. It's all good.
The new M3P should have been a performance hatch, not a sedan. Take my money!
Then wait for the MYP
@@larryc1616 Don't want or care for the extra weight or ground clearance.
I would buy a Model 3 Hatchback to replace my '19 Long Range.
i have been praying for a tesla hot hatch or a hatchback sedan
If Tesla manages to produce a sub $30k car that is good enough (drives well, good seats), it will make it very difficult for legacy auto makes to catch up - who the heck would buy a bolt?
the model y right now is so tempting at 279/lease
I Witnessed the delivery (by semi) of a 2024 Tesla Model Y Performance in Quicksilver yesterday at the Cincinnati OH (Blue Ash) location. I just bought a 2024 Model Y Performance in Stealth Gray, but I would have opted for the Quicksilver if I had the opportunity because it is SWEET!
Great show - thank you for all your efforts
the only reason the model y is enticing to me is the hatch. The model 3 is absolutely useless at hauling stuff
Yep. Hatchbacks are extremely convenient for sure!
I wanted the Y juniper but couldn’t wait so I got the 3 Highland. However after coming from a Masda3 hatch, I reaaaaaally want my hatch back. Model 3 hatch in quicksilver or ultra blue please.
That's not entirely true. The rear seats fold down and my wife was actually surprised at the amount of stuff we can haul.
@@travellover3373 ya im being a little over the top but there's a big difference between a trunk with fold down seats and hatch, thats all.
Useless comment. Car x is useless at hauling
Thanks for the updates Ryan.
I live in snow country, will the hatchback 3 be front or rear wheel drive. Front is better for snow.
Isn't front better only with ICE vehicles? For electric the weight is better distributed.
With snow tires RWD is just fine. Arguably it's better.
Does anyone know what battery is in the new model 3 performance? Is it recommended to charge to 80% or 100%. My guess is that it's probably the same battery as the long range.
A Classic station wagon version of M3 would be interesting in Europe. A high roof version of MY would also make sense in the same market. Audi’s electric lineup has a high roof as standard and a coupe/hatch as an alternative.
If the M3 can go more economical while also offering a performance version it would be more in line with other manufacturers offerings while still maintaining a huge amount of shared parts.
Model 3 hatchback could be a winner. I've always driven station wagons (Audi Avants). I miss having the extra space in my current Model 3. I'd seriously look at switching.
I’m giving up on ever owning an EV.
On Fixed Income or a person in the low income bracket can’t afford them. Especially in Canada. Exchange is very high.
Same.
I can give you some insight into Tesla as I worked for cell manufacturing in Giga texas.
4680 is an inferior battery technology compared to LFP which can be charged to 100% continuously
There are 4680 LFPs. Do your homework.
Hi Ryan, here in Germany the configurator for all Model Y versions shows Quicksilver, but no longer Stealth Grey. Price is the same as for Midnight Cherry Red - € 2600.-
i'm waiting for catl m3p battery
The biggest issue is also battery damage during very minor accidents and hitting the bottom of the vehicle.
Hi Ryan. Have you ever done a video on how protected the batteries are from underbody damage? My concern with Teslas is that I may accidentally run over a tow hitch or something on the road that can cause some really expensive damage. Does Tesla warranty these types of incidents
My friend and I have 2015 and 2016 model S and we both got the batteries replaced. What is the odd? They are luckily still under warranty since our cars batteries died under 100k miles.
model 3 hatch for the win!
Ryan, I have taken a number of 3,000 mile trips in my 2020 LR Model Y. Driving at the speed limit I average about 220 watts/mile. Usually with a 90% departure state of charge I drive about 220 miles before I stopping. After driving this leg I usually have arrival state of charge of 19%-23%. This is as mentioned driving speed limit, an ambient air temperature of 68 - 82 degrees Fahrenheit, operating in FSD, no jack rabbit starts and no high speed passes. In conclusion, I can easily reach the original factory estimate if I do not drive crazy....
The lucid air shot reminds me of those old “ahhh talegaaa” commercials
Hi Ryan!
Model 3 hatch is Model Y!
not really....Y is quite a bit bigger....really different driving experience
no, its higher, wider and have been called a SUV all the time. A hatch og wagon will have a straighter roofline, a lower center of gravity.
My 2018 Model S 100d just got its battery replaced under warranty. 133k on the odometer. No warning before it happened. A bit disheartening but we persevere.
OH MAN! I have the same exact year, model, and trim as you. Im at 83k on the odometer. Do you think your battery failed because of charging habits?
Uh, that's wild
Bear in mind that Battery PACKs can be replaced because the management software is bleating about a potential issue or other. There are thousands of cells and many other parts. If it even looks like something might be wrong, they replace the whole pack, take it apart, check and refurbish. Battery pack replacement as a percentage is extremely low, especially for Tesla, but it is possible there was some similarity in your battery pack batches or production method prompting a swap out.
@@user-jt4fy4od9r the car wouldn't move anymore, prompting a battery replacement. bottom line.
@@davidwebster2616 Wel it could be worse, the wet belt in an ecoboost Ford engine could fail when all the teeth fall off and block the oil filter, starving the turbo of oil which then blows up. Prompting an engine replacement. The turbo does not need to actually blow as just replacing the wet belt costs enough. Hope that sucker is under warranty when it happens. Which thankfully for most is the case as it does collapse into a pile of pistons well before 80k miles.
i think they can use all the cells they can make; Semi and Megapacks can take a lot.
Make an offroad suv that can take on a R2 R1, 4 runner trd
In some states the state credits would bring the customers price below $25,000. Add in the gas and oil savings and they could be cheaper than any gas car.
Awesome content as usual. I don't see the Quicksilver color option when I go to the site though...maybe I'm missing something?
Check inventory options. Very limited quantity.
Heck yes! only reason I bought the model S because of the hatchback. Model 3 hatch or wagon will be sweet! I'll buy one!
I would love it if they made a full model 3 hatchback lineup just like the model y. rwd, lr, and performance trims.
It would probably be the perfect combination but I really, really worry though.
1, I hope it is dimensionally similar to the model 3 so it doesn't look like a squished model 3, like the model y looks like a bloated model 3.
And 2, I hope they make the hatchback design, akin to a typical hatchback with a more upright rear end design, and NOT a sloping roof like the model y. If they did, it would basically be the same car as the model 3, but better and cheaper. So I hope they differentiate it with a more upright, hatchback or shooting brake design.
It will be interesting I’m gonna need it for years and that smaller Rivian versus the Y is gonna be a hard choice
How can I find out if my 2023 Y has 4680 batteries ?
Im hoping for CATL’S shenxing battery in MY and M3
Where is my Model Y Juniper?
Wow, with this news, it looks like I probably will not be buying another Tesla. A minimalist interior already means featureless coupled with deleting even more parts to make it even cheaper is not desirable for me.
Isn't model Y already a model 3 hatchback? I have a model Y and can barely tell them apart as it is.
Model 3 hatchback would be ideal for me. Imma wait for it.
Cheaper in house batteries also means more negotiation power
I absolutely love my new Tesla Model 3. Nothing compares. I've driven several other EV's, before deciding on the Model 3, and Tesla are clearly at least 3 to 5 years ahead of the rest, including BYD (too many buttons, inconsistencies, rushed tech to try and catch up etc). Despite the ongoing argument about CATL and Tesla using their batteries, their overall product is far more ahead in overall tech than BYD.
Tesla should make a small truck based on the Model Y.
Agree and a small truck would sell very well especially Europe & Asia.
Ford can’t sell the EV 150. The redneck dream is ICE.
I'd be interested in a model 3 hatchback.
SHOULD BE A CHEAP HATCHBACK
I actually repair Tesla’s and it’s more common than u think for older batt. To fail on model s but still the cars have cheaper maintenance you’re just paying for larger big ticket items at once but in the long run it’s cheaper less brakes, oil, trans etc etc
I think the reveal on 8.8 will be a compact model Y, 20 inch shorter than the current, with plenty space for cargo. This will be an ideal car for students, singles and small families. After tax credit for 30k. This will outsell Corolla and Rav4 combined.
You’re not paying attention. They are “revealing” a non-existent robo-taxi in August. It’s going to be the fabled $25,000 car with all the sensors that Elon removed (plus a lot more), and supposedly no steering wheel, but we’ll see.
Where is the Tesla minivan already?
its called the Model X :)
@@davidwebster2616precisely
I would buy a Tesla mini van instantly if it had400- 500 miles of range.
Model x is barley a mid size SUV
The problem with a model V would be the fact that Tesla likes to make everything minimal and vans are cool because all the features it has. So if they come with the same interior design language they will fail for the masses. But of course the could use the platform for work fan of course
@@tomyboy697yea 450-550 miles range is the only way I’m buying a new EV
Imagine the sales if Tesla produced normal 2500/3500 style truck 🚀🚀🚀🚀
Model 3 hatch would be amazing... not sure on the 4680 cells.. Charging performance in the Model Y with 4680 was pretty bad.. seems better in Cybertruck. As long as that is taken care of it will be great.. That or LFP would be my choice... LFP actually would be best for me.. more robust and longer lifespan.
Batteries going down like crezy.. used to be 3-4? Years ago 60kwh pack cost 12-15k.. now it will be around 3-4k.. i think you can make Model 3 the 25k car..
I picture of the next vehicle, kind a like being a shorter model Y hatch. A four-door, five seater compact hatch. It’s probably the most in demand affordable useful vehicle overal to the most people.
what do you think of all the layoffs at tesla now? should we worry if we have their products? could you make a video on that subject?
I second that
My 2017 Model S battery is showing very little degradation. I'm not worried about it.
What I don't like is the ground clearance 😔
1:45 LOL , the newer batteries didn't fail as much because those not yet became into an older age! :D
I’m interested in researching the annual decrease in mileage for electric vehicles (EVs). Specifically, I want to understand how a vehicle advertised as having a range of 250 miles per full charge would perform over time.
Thanks for that battery study, finally a good source as rebuttal to online idiots claiming every EV will need a battery replacement.
It’s not a good source for anything! All it shows is that 13 year old batteries fail more often than 1 year old batteries. This says NOTHING about improving battery quality, just that older batteries fail more often (duh). How can people be so dumb?
The problem with battery durability is the limited sample volume with any significant history.
That's not how statistics work, it's a simple table look up to determine your required sample size for a given population.
@@otm646 Sorry but that is exactly how statistics work. The smaller the sample size the greater the error. Exactly what you have with BEV over 10 years old. What you do have from the Model S over ten years old isn’t encouraging. I read of the first year Model S over 7% have had the batteries replaced.
I haven't watch for a while but looks like you're losing some weight! Keep it up man!
The Model 3 hatch is something I would sign up for. I neither want nor need a car as big as the model Y. Still, I'm hoping one of the next generation vehicles will be a cyber-hatch.
Ryan, do you seriously think they are buying batteries now for the robo-taxi??? That non-existent car won’t be produced for many years. Why on earth would they buy batteries for it now??? This makes absolutely no sense.
When he says "buying" he does not mean having cells actually shipped. But likely means: to make contracts now for deliveries in 2027, 2028 or later to come. Apart from that: many models at Tesla are now being more or less called a Robotaxi. We need new names to refer the new product lines.
@@MooseOnEarth Yeah… no. What kind of idiot would buy batteries now for 2028 when battery technology is rapidly changing? They could be obsolete or nearly worthless by then. OBVIOUSLY they were bought for cars being made this year. Duh.
I'd strongly consider a Model 3 hatchback, particularly if my Tesla stock goes up enough to help pay for it. Cheers from New Orleans
A model 3 hatch would be cool, but I was so hoping for a smaller Tesla hatchback. :(
I do not know anything about car paint or body work when it comes to cars, but I personally would love to be able to factory order brighter colours like, Green, Blue, Yellow... too many dark and dull cars these days. That was something very different in the 70-80s, and since its a personall preference, it should not be an issue to offer brighter colours. Like I said, I do not know aynthing about painting cars, so it could have to do with a technical reason. I can imagine its too expensive to offer such a variaty.
We're trying to move down to one car, our hatchback Leaf and our compact truck could be replaced by a hatchback M3, perfect.
Now if only the Tesla board would do their fiduciary duty and move beyond Musk.
Are they going to release a new cybercluk
They are releasing a new cybercluk
model 3 hatchback is model y
The graph has significant less usage as you ho to the right as well.
If batteries don't fail much, especially LFP, and if battery anxiety is a thing making people wary about transitioning to EVs, then why not offer longer battery warranties? Maybe 250,000 miles (400,000 km) for cars with LFP battery packs.
They’d make more money selling a $32,500 car that qualifies for the $7,500 tax credit netting to $25,000
Even if it was a variation of the model 3/Y platform for more efficiency such as a model 3 hatchback…
And some folks sold on the idea of Tesla or nothing might still want a more compact vehicle. I’ve owned at least 3 hatchback models and two “station wagon / SUVs” in over 50years and if we last longer than my wife’s current Forester, that body style will definitely be on the short list.
Tesla just raised their interest rates on a model 3 performance lease by 2% to over 10% for top tier credit, but no one is reporting on this!
Where is the Tesla Minivan? 🙃
Model 3 hatch will canibalize sales of the model 3, so it doesn't make too much sense to me, unless they also revamp the regular model 3, turning it into a luxury offering, like the model S.
Keeps is not (yet) working....let's GO !
Can you imagine the Cybertruck in 5 years? They will have all those wrinkles ironed out and it will be way cheaper. Now that's gonna be a Cyberbeast! 😂😅
I can’t imagine that monstrosity even existing in 5 years. Once the novelty wears off and people realize how dumb and hideous it is, and what a terrible material stainless steel is, it will go the way of the DeLorean, only to live on in memory as a sad joke. 🤣
I don't think a robo taxi needs a longer range. When its charging it wont have customer sitting in it so what's the problem? Just have more robo taxis so you can deal with peak hour demand better and charge them in off peak times.
4:50 - I would buy a Model 3 hatchback with 48v system/drive by wire blah blah blah. With it being 2k less than the original Model 3, I don't understand how the 2 variants can co-exist.
They messed up by not including gigacasting into the new model 3
The issue is casting machines: IDRA cannot produce them fast enough to meet Tesla needs.
@@FrunkensteinVonZipperneck can't they do batch production off their existing machines along with the Model Y castings? I thought Elon said they didn't do it because they already had the old machines in place and it didn't make economic sense for them to remove/replace them? If so I think that was a short-sighted decision.
Hatchbacks don't sell in the U.S. Why would they make them at Giga Texas? Also, doesn't the Model 3 LR currently have 2170 batteries? Why isn't it eligible for the tax credit?
I guess it depends on where the 2170s originate but I agree, I would have thought 2170 would qualify, unlike LFP in the standard range.
Imagine the sales if Tesla produced a real full size SUV similar to the Ford Explorer or R1S 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀
In the future when you make Electric Dirtbikes can you also make them transform into a personal watercraft so it can go on land and water, thankyou Tesla.
At some point if Tesla decides on a 'people's car' they'll likely remove some of the 'luxury' features - leather interior, pano roof, etc. Likely possible to go cloth interior and steel roof and shave some dollars.
I have a 2016 model S 75D with 120k miles. New, it would take 72 kwh on a 0-100% charge. Now it will only hold 60 kwh on a 0-100 charge. The 8 year, 150k mile power train warranty runs out in October 2024. The car has been completely trouble free. The trade in value is only $9,000, so rather than trading it in before the warranty ends, I’m going to just keep driving it until the battery fails, then sell it to an auto recycler, like Peddle, that will still give me $5,000 for it in a non-functioning state, hopefully when it has 200k miles or so on the clock.
@RyanShawtech, do you know what batteries would be on a MYP 2024 from Austin?
Lucid has missed so many sales goals I doubt they make it.
There is a problem: the best lithium batteries ( or now the new sodium ones ) have only 300 Wh per Kg; diesel or gasoline have 10000 Wh per Kg, and that is 30 times more;
The huge weight that the cordless car hauls around all the time, makes for a very unpleasant drive; it's like driving a loaded truck, it has no agility, and it's bad on the tires and bad on the brakes, besides other disadvantages.
You’ve clearly never driven a modern car😂
No one cares. Everyone these days drives around in a massive heavy truck or SUV.
AND Electric Engines are just superior. That’s how the Model S is able to gap sportscars 10x its price
Given the layoffs of the car design department, I am not sure how possible some of this will be.
They don’t really need a design department since they just keep making variations of the Model S with slightly different dimensions, and they all look like a 2014 Mazda 3 (designed by the same guy).
I use Recurrent 👍🏻
I agree with Elon. We need a badass Model Y
The way the layoffs are going I'll be surprised if anything gets developed in the next 2 years
Where did Troy Teslike hear that the compact is postponed to 2028? No one said that, that would be stupid. Also, never heard any comment about M3 hatchback
