- Catch more fish by using snap swivels and clips correctly. Also, sometimes it's much better to tie directly to the lure.

If you're fishing for bass a snap swivel is just fine. They keep the line from twisting and you can switch out bait very quickly. The bass really don't care about the hardware up front they just seem to change day to day on what they want to hit. So the ability to change out lures quickly and find what they're hitting on is key.
Thanks for that input, I agree.
Thank you I only use swivels and guess what I still catch fish
Agreed
The fish don't seem to mind the Hooks so why worry about the snap on anything?
Never thought of it this way. Thanks. I normally just keep retying when needed since I am really fast at it but this has given me so ideas since i love using spinners on one rod and bait on another.
Glad it was helpful!
Super helpful. As a novice I've come a long way when it comes to actually catching fish, but now I'm working on streamlining my process of changing lures/bait so I can spend less time tying knots on the water and more time actually fishing. Thanks for the insight!
You are welcome.
That was a phenomenal explanation. As a newer fisherman, I've been perplexed by how to use these tools properly. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! There is so much more to this subject, but this is a good starting point.
I’m with Mark, really made sense to a newbie like me!
I'm here with you Mark I fished a lot in my youth now I'm getting back into it and needing to learn
I like how simple you made all this to understand, never really used lures before, so I’m glad I came across this video.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent information for all anglers both new and seasoned!
Thank you, KPO.
VERY helpful video. Been fishing here in Florida for year's and I've never heard such a clear explanation of this issue, thankyou sir👍🏼
Glad it was helpful!
Nice presentation Dave. I am an avid fisherman, mostly walleye, but also pike, musky, bass, trout, ah heck, most anything that swims. I just love time on the water and fortunately my wife humors me, usually fishing/ reading. Anyhow, nice job. Btw, we have 4 girls, so watching you with you kids brought back a lot of memories. ✌🏻
Thanks Fred. I'm glad to have you watching, KPO.
Thanks.. I'm just getting back into fishing after 25 years or so... just forgot all about fishing and how fun it was. so you'd probably be surprised on how many people didn't know this about lures and swivels. thanks again!
Welcome! The subject can go much deeper, but this is a great basic overview.
I'm almost a complete beginner when it comes to fishing this has been a very very helpful video! Thank you! God Bless!

Great information on the use of swivels, I was thinking about incorporating them in my fishing arsenal. Thanks! Happy fishing everyone.
thanks
Swivel, snap. Swivel snap are always big question but you very well explained with reference and measurement. Thank you very much for shearing your experience
Thanks for watching!
Thank you sir, well explained and I never thought about using swivel and can’t wait!
Glad it was helpful!
One of the more educational fishing videos I’ve seen. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video my friend, love to watch your content. Its always nice to get a refresher when in comes to using what and how to tie on your lure. Have a great trip fishing on the next adventure.
Thanks a lot Robert, KPO.
So many answers in one place ! Amazing video for the begginers like me !
Thank you!
I love these very basic instructions. Thanks!
You are so welcome!
I’m an old guy learning how to fish and this really helps!! Thank you
Happy to help!
Have you had any luck lately catching any nice one's? Wish you well and hopefully you do good out there!👍
FINALLY! Great info! I never knew what to use when/how (new to fishing) Thanks!!
Welcome!
Wow- thanks so very much! You answered all my questions and I appreciate all the expert information - God bless you.
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve been looking for this information since I started fishing a few years ago ! Thanks!
Glad to help!
Thanks for the information. I just started fishing and have been learning by the trial and error method😅 But I’ve learned a lot in the past 3 times I’ve gone fishing. After watching this, I can point out a few things that might have been preventing me from getting any bites at all! Thanks!
Hope it helps
I never use the clips or swivels now, since I stopped my fishing bites have increased massively. I’ll be sure to give it another try when using spinners thanks for the video very informative
Less hardware is better to get bit, but less convenient and you might get bit off more. Just gotta find that happy middle ground.
Your a really good teacher everything was very easy to understand.
thanks
Thanks for sharing SOLID fishing knowledge, to rely on... 🎣
welcome
Wow, great video! So much great info and I learned so much. This helped me a lot! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Helpful to all, even just as a refresher. TFS
Glad it was helpful!
That was an excellent explanation for this newbie.
Glad it was helpful!
Knetters, thank you for always taking the time! I love watching your videos. GO Camaro Crawlers ! And if anyone does not know what that means, they haven't been around, hahaha.
I have been doing alot of trolling this week for crappie so I needed this
Thank you
Bill
Thanks for that comment! How's the fishing been?
Its been great , some nice crappie slabs on lipless crank baits
On the bass side , some real nice 4lb range on ....Chatter bait , mega bass mag draft , Fred Roumbanis line -thru swimbait panicked action from optimum baits.
I have so much to learn so keep the videos goin !!! Thanks Again and thanks for reaching out
Bill
@@yingadinger Great to hear!
This video is sooo well done . Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Good video. You made simple enough that even those of us with a college degree can understand it. Seriously, we can be idiots. Thanks
Well said!
Great video!! ESPECIALLY like the swivel up away from the snap. Perfect for whopper PLOPPER and whopper PLOPPER jr. Thanks again 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
I rarely comment on videos but this was a very great explanation, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video. Made a lot of sense. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Very very educational for me. Thank you. Definitely liked and I will subscribe
Welcome to the channel David!
Always good to hear someone else thinking the same way as I do.
I think we're doing it right Brad, KPO.
I have used a swivel/clip when fishing inshore my literal whole life. Every lure I have ever used is hooked up to a swivel with a clip on it. Have never had an issue or noticed. Fosh don't seem to care either. Ultra light up to 10 pounders. Have caught every single freshwater fish with a swivel clip. Makes changing lures super fast and easy.
Yes, it's an interesting subject. I've had tournament fisherman commented here how clips alter the sink/dive rate of lures, and they consider that a negative. Then I was just reading a recent issue of In-Fisherman and they were taking about using different size clips and even changing hook size to tweak the sink/dive rates of lures. Some comment here say you're missing on fish if you use a clip on crankbaits, but every time I see a video of Jon Thelen (of Lindy Fishing Tackle) using cranks he has a clip on his line. I pretty much do as I mentioned in the video. There certainly seems to be a lot of really good fisherman (fisherman that pay their mortgage by catching fish - tournaments, guides, seminar speakers, TH-cam teachers, pro-staffers) that do the same. But some really good fisherman do not. Thanks for the input.
Good information. I run mine pretty much the same way you explain.
Thanks and cool!
Wow this was so helpful. Great video.
Thank you!
Simply explaining, great job brother. I was doing all wrong.
Glad it helped
Got into fishing about a year ago.. it's because of people like you, that I've become quite the fisherman. Literally just got back from taking my 2 daughters and 2 of my sons to the tailwater of percy priest dam.
Just found out my fiance is pregnant today
She had to work so I got the kids out the house since I took today off.. man after one hellava day.. this video just added some icing on the cake.
Overpopulation is the #1 driver of climate change. It's going to be a very hard world for all of these kids you're having.
@@mousepuddingok first of all dude screw you!!
Secondly, you are spitting theories and not facts. So save you opinions for someone who cares. Don't worry about my kids bro we good over here
Finally, humans have inhabited about 15% of the earth... 15%... there is more fresh water than surface area we have populated. THE SCIENCE shows that the earth's climate is in constant change so stop trying to blame humans. The climate changed long before us and will continue to do so.
Congrates! Glad you enjoyed the vid. I have 6 kids of my own. Fishing with them is a treasure.
@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors i have 6 and 1 otw. Congrats bro!!! We all love to fish as well even my girls. Even tho they won't bait a hook lol
Excellent instructional video. TY
Thank you so much!
The Invisaswivel changed trout fishing for me. Although how often I catch a fish then re-tie, water clarity, fish I'm trying to catch and the type of line I'm using has a lot to do with whether I use a swivel.
Noted
Great video. Thanks
Very welcome
I like your Hodag Sicker!. Thanks for the knowledge.
You bet. I was born in Rhinelander.
Very informative video thank you.. answered lots of questions especially how far away to use the swivel on the line. And what type of lure .
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the tips Steve from New England 😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🤓
Any time Steve!
Very good information. Thank you.

Great information, thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
This helpful uncle, thank you for your tip
Always welcome
Thanks
Welcome!
A Hodag! Nice to see. I grew up in Rhinelander.
Cool! I was actually born there but moved to Upper Michigan at a young age. Still visit once in a while and have an uncle that still has a summer house on the Wisconsin River/Boom lake area. Actually fished there a lot as a kid.
might consider loop knot for direct tie to lures like jigs and Rapalas' . Better action than a tight knot. A little hard to tie correctly, but results worth the effort.
Good advice.
Another great video sir! I've been doing it all wrong all these years, now I know. Maybe now I can become a fisherman instead of just a fish stalker. 😆
Glad it helped.
Very good information
Thanks
thanks for the great video! really helped a lot

Great job thank you, very helpful 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Just subscribed. This makes great sense👍✌️👌
Welcome to the channel Ken! KPO.
Always used a snap on all my lures for past 60 years...even topwater action lures....Never had and problem or missed fish. I find it a bit easy changing lures. I guess I can say I do it in a snap!
Nice
Excellent video!
Thanks you.
Thank you! Very helpful

Good stuff Dave!
Thanks for watching, KPO.
Great video😊. Thanks
thank you
Thank you. Very helpful.
Good to hear!
One good scenario where I use a snap swivel is when I'm using lures for northern pike because the short metal piece on the snap swivel acts sort of like a short metal wire leader for the line. and so it reduces the amount of bite offs you get if you choose to go with 30 lb test or any other lighter lb test by northern pike standards. because the swivel part of the snap swivel will replace the part of the line that they would have bitten if the snap swivel wasn't there to begin with.
very cool
Very helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Very good advice
Thank you
I used to use snap swivels but over time just had too many pike bite-offs. So now I use a small micro or fluorocarbon leader on my lightest casting rig.
Cool
excellent presentation
Glad you liked it!
great explanation! thanks
Welcome.
I didn't even know micro clips existed. Ordering a bunch now!
Cool!
When I was young I used a snap swivel, always. As I got more experience I dropped the snap swivel completely
I catch way more fish without the snap swivel almost 10 times as many fish especially in more clear water.
Thanks for sharing!
I've been fishing for so long that I've learned my lesson, I just don't use lures that twist my line anymore. There are plenty of options to spoons and spinners that don't twist line. I just use a small snap when using lures, and a good rule of thumb is to use a snap or clip that is rated for at least double your line, or preferably a little higher, so 8lb line, use a 20lb snap.
Good stuff!
Get swivel twix bob and liter.
Good information, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much, great advice there, G.B.Y.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video. Thanks bud
Welcome!
Good stuff! Informative...1 quick question though ...when using a mono or floro leader, why not just tie line to line with a double uni or whatever knot? Thats less metal, and you can reel in farther. The metal on a swivel can't reel through the top eye of the rod. It could make it harder to fight a fish all the way
Yes, a lot of fishermen do it that way. My leader isn't very long, so when I reel up to the swivel it doesn't make casting difficult. I prefer this to having a longer leader with a knot. Even a small knot doesn't glide thru the guides perfectly. But if you feel a need for longer leaders the knot is the way to go, KPO.
LHey has ppl
how does that eliminate line twists?
@@Straight0uttaCrofton it doesn't. truth be told, you don't actually need a swivel, either. I run braid direct to a flouro leader on all my spinning rods and have not once used a swivel, even with inline spinners. It's good advice for the guys throwing mono or flouro, to be sure. Line twist is a huge problem with vinyl lines, but not hardly at all with braid.
Thanks for your video is a leader a must and when using live bait do you use a leader I know you said no snaps and swivels with live but not sure about a leader beginner thankyou
I like to use fluorocarbon leaders with live bait, KPO.
Love your channel…
Glad you enjoy it!
The wife I fish together, but I do all the grunt work, lol.
Some good tips on the swivels and clips, thanks
Thanks
Avoid snap swivels all together by putting swivels on the split rings of your lures. Minimal hardware, and you can tie direct so there’s no fear of bending it out. I do this on all my salmon spoons and so far 24lb lake trout haven’t been able to break em. They’ll bend out the hooks before they break it if your using a good split ring and swivel
Good tip!
And a correctly tied knot. But yes definitely put split rings on spoons that don't have one.
What knot do you use to tie onto your swivel?
@@ohno2624 I personally use the "uni knot" but i don't catch particularly big fish so i can't tell you for sure.
Great video. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
I always use flat link swivels as I’ve never had one distort or let me down after many years of fishing ,but if your using snap swivels and are quite happy with them fine ,but if not try a flat link
Cool, thanks!
Start with the basics! 👍
Cool
Very helpful. Cheers buddy.
Glad to hear it!

Welcome!
Brilliant! Thank you Bro!🙂👍🐳🐳
My pleasure!
What is your favorite know to tie braid to swivel, mono to swivel, and mono to hook? I searched your library and thought for sure there would be a video on knots. Maybe a suggestion for another video. I'd love to get your practical advice on the technique for tying said knots as well
I may have to do a video on this subject.
A snell knot variation or palomar knot is usually what I use for line to hook, easy and better than a double uni or other common knots. Idk about line to swivel tho bc I havent really used them
Unfortunately where I live, 4, 6 and 12 inch coated steel leaders with swivel and snap clip are mandatory for the Pike and Walleye up here in Saskatchewan. They’ll nom-nom clean through your lines.
Never had line twist issues either.
I can’t imagine always cutting and re-tying my fishing line. 😳 I’m often switching lures too frequently for that nonsense...
Yes, sometimes bass guys don't know what we are dealing with in the north.
Yes , Northern Michigan pike and muskie. I'm torn between tying a fluoro 20# -30# leader directly to a 6 inch 1 to 2 oz swimbait??
well explained video to watch!
Thank you!
Great video
thanks
Good video! Thanks
You are welcome, KPO.
🎉Thank you so much‼️
You are welcome.
Spinning gang trolls are bad for line twist....especially the big ones of the old days. Good ball bearing swivels really help. Good video.
You got that right!
Thank you! I'm 36 and never used these, always tied straight to the bait/lure. Now I'm rigging like I should have been and can't believe how I fished without them
Great to hear it.
Nice was hard to find a video like this start to the learning not vloging like the gurus

Hello Sir finally the swivel clip is better for jigs at sea rather than the simple clip?
Thanks
If your jigs don't spin, I wouldn't be concerned with the swivel part. But either will work.
Thank you for coming back. I understand.
