The trilene knot is just so awesome I'm surprised it's not more famous. The skipper of my fishing boat taught it to me as a deckie over 25 years ago and I've been using it ever since. It's just so quick and easy to tie it, and never slips. I've even tested it myself and it definitely holds more weight than any other. Try it and see. It's just a simple clinch knot but you start it with a double pass rather than just a single.

    • @cheezer137

Yes this is the only knot I use also. Never had it fail on me. From using 10lb test to 40lb leader I use the same know. I usually wrap it 5x with smaller line and 3-4 depending on how big the knot looks if I use like 60lb fluro for sharks. Works great just harder to get it nice and flush with thicket line

I agree I may try a couple of these but the improved one has never failed me from the knot. only times it did was me not keeping it wet or using wrong size line for what i was doing. I have broke a catfish hook before breaking the knot, straightened a bass hook, and broke the top section of my pole and had to cut the line because the knot would not break. so if these other knots are stronger then i better break trees down and shatter rocks then lol

Very clever video debo. I hate to admit, when I tie flouro or mono, I still will tie the improved clinche knot every single time. For braid, I hate wasting so much line with a Palomar knot, so last year I switched up to a double uni knot. Basically the same idea of doubling the line. So far it has been rock solid for me and it's easier then some of the others.

I’ve been using the Trilene knot for many years. Between it and the RP knot for my leaders, it’s all I need. I really like the Palomar knot but I lose a lot of my leader each time I re-tie. So I use for braid only purposes. Some people make this more complicated than it needs to be. As you said, practice. Practice a couple and master them. You’re good to go.

Great video! I'm similar and, unless I'm rigging something special like a snell hook, I really only use 2 knots: the trilene knot for mono and fluoro, and the palomar knot for braid. I know people still like to use clinch knots and improved clinch knots, but there's really no reason not to switch from either of those to a trilene knot that I can think of, for the reasons you mentioned. In fact, from what I can recall, the trilene knot was itself specifically developed in order to replace the improved clinch knot.

My parents taught me the trilene knot 30 years ago and I fished it exclusively for 25 years with no issues whatsoever. Learned the palomar knot just a few years back and I use it exclusively on straight braid froggin, jiggin and other large swimbaits or any mono/flouro over 10lb test. A well tied, well lubricated trilene knot never failed me for 20 plus years on sub 12lb test mono though.

I use the trilene a bunch. Usually 4-5 wraps. For braided line almost exclusively the uni knot unless it's a Texas rig with a heavy weight then a snell. Double shindo for almost all my finesse stuff or floro in general assuming theres no grass.

Awesome video! I've used trilene for 30 years. In the last 10 years I have learned a variation that allows a small loop for jerkbaits, worms, or anything that needs a little extra natural movement on it's own. I only know it as a rapala knot because that's where I first saw it.
