- Mix of 2D Grease Pencil and 3D animation in Blender!
Breaking down my entry for Pwnisher's Alternate Realities challenge.
If you didn't know: Grease pencil is a very powerful tool in Blender that you can use to create 2D animations, digital art, storyboards, animatics, motion graphics and many more!

All the things I show here are just one way of making things.
There are many ways to create in Blender. And it takes time to find the workflow that suits you.
I tried to go for a more cartoony look, with some comic book-like explosions.
This was a discovery journey for me and I learned so much from making this.
So glad I participated.
Line Art Modifier + reproject stroke is a super powerful combo that can produce very cool results without having to worry too much about perspective and proportions.
You can try downloading animations at mixamo for reference / create simple 3D shapes.
Then use Line Art modifier and just go crazy!

Sound design wasn’t part of this entry so I left it out of this tutorial.
Basically I just layered different sounds together.

Thank you! I just exported straight to mp4 with sound since it was a 5sec video in eevee. With my pc I use viewport render animation a lot, I feel it's a little bit faster 😅
@@Dantti is there a way to make it so that gp object effects (like glow and blur) only effect on layer?
@@bobbob-nj3ck not right now, you need to separate the layers and play with the placement in 3d space, it can produce wonky results though
@@Dantti I've discovered a new way to parent the GP objects to the camera, and ducplicate them and use the local axis to move them in front or behind the object i want to be a "layer"
You can also use the "track" object constraint to make all greasepencil objects face the camera at all times, When working with 2.5 D animation, hope this helps. Have a blessed day!
