I hosted a cookie exchange every year with my work colleagues. It was so much fun. We always held it the night the boats in the harbour were going by all lit up for Christmas! I had an ocean view and what a party!!
You read my mind with this recipe, Beth! I was introduced to these cookies 2 years ago by my mother-in-law and I fell in love with them immediately. i have since been looking for the recipe so this is perfect timing. Needless to say I love your channel!!
Homemade cookies are just the best gift idea when going to a friend's house! I adore all your cookie recipes they look all so delicious! Also Ive loved the cookie exchange idea, it is so cute
It takes a lot to make me want to try a new cookie recipe, but I am 100% sold on your thumbprints. They are so pretty! And I LOVE your measuring spoon trick - they look perfect!
Hey Beth - absolutely love this idea! Have just bought the cute little boxes from Amazon - and after some detective work found them on the UK Amazon store and they're arriving tomorrow - just in time for me to take some cookies as a hostess present to a friend on Monday. Merry Christmas from England x
my family made thumbprint cookies when I was a kid, but they were a little different. We had the almond flavored dough, but instead of rolling in sugar, we used crushed pecans. And instead of the jam, we baked them unfilled then filled them with colored royal icing in the centers after they cooled.
Such a sweet idea, I wish I had a group of friends to do it with, everyone either lives far away or is busy with a little baby :( Your cookies remind me of ones we make in the Czech republic. They're called sádlovky, the dough is chocolate flavoured and we use lard instead of butter (it doesn't taste weird, I promise!) and we put red currant jam in the little holes. It's a great flavour combination!
Oh that sounds so yummy! What a combo! :) Tell your friends to bring their babies! I used to do that when my kids were small, and would hire a baby sitter for the day to watch all the small kids so the Moms could talk and enjoy a moment of peaceLOL! It was a big hit! :)
Yes! Love the cookie recipes and your cookie exchange tips! I learned about a cookie exchange through a little older lady at my work and she would do hers at the beginning of December and her and her friends would make a certain amount of cookies and so if anyone would drop by after she would have cookies to offer them!! Love the packaging ideas too! Will come in handy for my cookie swap! Such sweet traditions to start! Love it! Happy holidays! 🍪
Oh that is such a cute story! Yes I think the cookie exchange idea was from another generation, my Dad talks about them all the time, but I think it's a perfect idea for this generation too! Let's bring it back ha! :)
I am in love with this cookie exchange idea! And those cookies are right up my alley with the raspberry. I will definitely be making them. Beth, all of your tips and tricks are so appreciated. They give me the confidence to go and try recipes I’ve never made before and it’s always a success with your expertise guiding me ❤️

After reading the comments, sounds like you may be single-handedly reviving the tradition of the cookie exchange! I grew up in the days when families (sometimes moms, sometimes dads, sometimes families together) made batch after batch of different cookies for Christmas until there were dozens! Many started right after Thanksgiving and stashed them in the freezer till closer to the holidays or for a party. By the time I was an adult, there was less baking going on and the cookie exchanges were no longer the get-together of choice of young mothers, etc. They were mostly taking place in offices full of women who no longer had the time to bake 7-10 kinds of cookies. The exchanges gave them the opportunity to gather a variety while only baking one or two dozen. Eventually it just died out. I love that you’ve reintroduced the idea and are helping to start that friendly tradition again! BTW, all of your cookie recipes look so tasty! 🎄❤️🎄
Aww I love hearing that Lucinda! I think past generations had so many great traditions that deserve a comeback and The Cookie Exchange is definitely one of them! Ha! :)
@@EntertainingWithBeth I have to say I didn’t appreciate them at the time as a young woman in my 20s when the older office ladies (haha - they were in their 40s! I made the thumbprint cookies right after watching this video. It was easy to make and you are right, they just melt in your mouth. I made some with fig, apricot and mixed berry jam. They are all equally delicious! 😊

The one cookie I make every year is thumbprint cookies, but I've never tried them with white chocolate before! I use a variety of jams, and some of the cookie dough balls I dip in egg white and roll in crushed nuts and then double dust the cookies in powdered sugar, once when warm and again when cooled. My absolutely favorite combinations are crushed walnuts and peach preserves or cherry preserves. I just use kitchen scissors to chop up the fruit in the preserves so they'll fit in the divot.

How much flour and should it be self rising?
Beth, I noticed there are only 9 to a baking sheet. Would doing the 12 be too crowded?
How much flour for thumb print cookies
COOKIES.......
Can I put more cookies on the tray to bake?
Sure you could probably squeeze in one more row they don’t spread out too much. Hope you enjoy!
I made the Thumbprint cookies, but I had trouble melting the white chocolate chips. I used the same brand as yours and they started to burn. I did 30 sec intervals. Then I reduced the power level to half but the same thing happened. Then I tried the double boiler method but the chocolate never got to the thin consistency like yours in the video. What am I missing? The cookies are delicious even without the icing.
Just a quick? I just made the thumbprint cookies but my white chocolate did not melt. Any suggestions? Thanks Beth. Wishing you and your beautiful family a Merry Christmas and all the best in 2023
It could depend on the type of white chocolate you bought. I find the easiest white chocolate to melt are the white chocolate chips by Ghirardelli.👍
Will these freeze well if made ahead?
Oh sure they would be great frozen no problem! :)
I feel like more and more I am becoming reluctant to make baked goods to give as gifts because people have trust issues. Is yours a fan oven?
It does both, but I use the regular oven for the cookies. I only use the fan for roasted meats :)
