I keep thinking about this topic every time I open Davinci Resolve to edit a video. "is this a dip that I'm feeling or should I move to other endeavours" but at the same time I remember why I'm doing it and that my definition of success is not having a million of subscribers, but to have a self sustaining hobby that I could enjoy the good bits and delegate the annoying ones
I think I'm awarding this video the "Best Video of The Day" award. ( This one or the one where the lady washes the hug blanket by hand....Well, this video won't keep me warm at night ). Fantastic video...tHanks for posting.
My life is a cul de sac, not to say I live on a cul de sac.....rather I spend my time ..in, a cul de sac. Those French....once you get past Eclairs and Pain Au Chocolate we quickly fall into cul de sacs and guillotines. Vive la France
I wrestle with the tension between creating content to educate or entertain people and the guilt of keeping them on the platform. I understand it's my responsibility to ensure that my videos help them feel like they're using their time well, but I can't shake the feeling that I'm not truly helping.
If you’re even aware of this, I think it’s your responsibility to make it. Have you seen some of the trash on this platform? You ain’t wasting anyone’s time if it’s genuinely good stuff.
Fair tension. I get it too. I’d say the main thing to consider is, as Jay says, comparatively stretching a quality video is way better than making trash. And to get reach, you have to play to watch time like competitors
Another great video my man! I've sent an email to the address in your channel bio but not sure it's active? :s Anyway, keep up the videos I'm loving them!
I’m a music artist and I hate making TikTok content. I mean I like making some, but not the kind that “works” in my country. I get streams everyday which is progress and I’m getting better at my craft, but the “making a career of it” seems pretty stale. It’s so hard to know if I should go another direction with it (I recently started TH-cam) or just say fuck it and have it as a hobby.
i get this, i think it's better you trust your gut with it. some things are meant better off hobbies, and i feel like a good indicator is how much it takes away from the fun of it. when i tried taking digital art serious, it was nice in the start, but eventually ended up burning me out and sort of disliking making art in general. if you're willing to put up with that, then it may be for you, but i kept constantly thinking of other things i 'could be doing' which is probably a sign it was just meant to be something on the side. takes a while to figure out, hope this helped.
"Don't quit" alone doesn't work. Learn how to pivot. If your approach isn't working and this has been the case for a long time, it's time for a BIG pivot.
Been loving the daily videos, see you tomorrow Jay!
See you tomorrow, Kelsey!
I was today years old when I learned what a cul de sac translates to....🤯

1:35 This graph also reminds me of the Dunning-Krueger effect, as soon as we start learning we think we know everything.
Definitely want to make a video on that. Super interesting idea.

This feels like the definition of TH-cam. TH-cam isn't worth quitting for, but there are many options you can take to succeed on TH-cam.
Don’t get stuck on one path

Van Neistat creates a great graph with Tom Sacks about being a veteran artist… just FYI 😊

Make what you want, and try to make it work. Don’t make what the algorithms want, and try and make you work.
