Sadly v max is ending too soon. I've owned a 2005 and now a 2017. Love them both gen 2 is better in every way. Good night v max...thanks for miles of thrills.
The bike oozes cool factor but drinks premium gas like a wrx sti while having a fuel tank the size of a cats prostate. Slow steering and heavy as death metal. This makes it a relatively poor commuter and tourer.

@@themalaailaanaa1347 I rode it and I stand by my words. You can’t hide 300kg, a long wheelbase and long trail. There’s a reason why streetfighters and adventure bikes are the most popular segment for manufacturers. In tight city traffic even those start to show their weight and handling bias compared to pseudo-sumos like a hypermotard 950 or 690smcr. Doesn’t mean the vmax is a bad bike, one of the greatest bikes if I’m completely honest, but I can understand that it’s far from the most practical day to day machine.
I think you made the right choice. Love all makes and models, but there's just something about the Vmax. Their aggressive look stands out from anything else.
Gotta say that my 1984 yamaha Fj 1100 ate up quite a few magna v65s back in the day. Love the V Max but I'll stick with my 2016 FJR1300. Enjoy your V Max they are a ton of fun !

Hi Jeff. Congratulations on your purchase. I think you are definition of myself and my mind. For years I had a 1985 Honda Magna VF750C (I also didn’t like the style of the newer Magna), but my dream was always VMAX. I ended giving away my Magna, after having her restored, re-chromed... she was just sitting in a shed. That was few years ago. The dream was always VMAX. The bug bit me out of the blue, when I realised that VMAX is no longer available new in UK and Europe. It was back in 2016 when Yamaha pulled the plug, due to EUR4 emissions standards. I overslept and simply missed this. I bought one on 9/11... of all dates, this year. Used but cherished. From a 66 year old gent, who must've been cleaning her everyday with a toothbrush. She is 2015 model but looks and rides like brand new. Cannot wait to see what experiences you have with yours. And you are absolutely right. There is no other bike that looks and sounds like VMAX. She is an absolute beauty. Some say: “If God made motorcycles, Devil would make VMAX” I guess they are right. 😉
Congratulations on the recent purchase of your 2015. Is the color Black Cherry? A lot of us VMAX owners seem to also have a history with the Magna. It’s all part of the V4 Power Cruiser evolution. At some point I will have a short video on the history of the VMAX. Thanks for watching my video. I hope you enjoy your new ride.
@@JeffMarcum She is heavily customised, but with taste. The previous owner had the CAT removed, so she sounds just like thunderstorm. He installed custom LEDs, oil pressure gauge, custom adjustable foot pegs, custom seat. The list goes on and on. He had her painted in a custom carbon red (but I do have original covers). I've also been given all the OEM parts (including catalytic converter). So I can revert to OEM if I wish to, but I don't think I will. She is a beauty to behold. Shame I cannot post you a picture here 😉 The first time I saw VMAX was on my way to Brands Hatch racing track near London to watch some motor racing. I was in a car with my wife and one year old son. We were stuck in traffic trying to get to car park, when VMAX (gen1) pulled alongside our car, directly next to me. My jaw dropped than and I never managed to lift it up since. Generation 2 is even more jaw dropping. Cannot wait for your vid on history of VMAX. Keep up good work and best of luck.
My 2020 Triumph Tiger 1200 has shaft drive. Triple. 140 Horsepower, 91 torks. Great for two up riding and touring. Fits larger riders well - I'm 6'3" and all I had to do was change out the windscreen for a taller Puig model. The big ADV bikes are the new power cruisers, and the blippers and power make them pretty sporty.
So I’m watching this video and the wife walks into the room and ask me why I am smiling. I told her “this guy has the same attitude on motorcycles as I do!”.
The safest thing about these bike are the prices in the fact generally it’s an older generation who can afford them and who will appreciate and understand the power.
You never mentioned that these bikes are hard to ride at slow speed due to the high compression. I have one and don't enjoy the bucking i get or engine braking at slow speed. These are meant to be driven hard or they are not happy. Don't get me started on the heat they make. I have had it more than 10 years and will never sell it. When comes that i am too old to ride it i will find a place in my house to retire it .
I was considering a VMax, Fatbob and Rocket 3. Ended up going with the Rocket 3 with fears that the VMax would no longer be produced and boy do I absolutely love it. Also a shaft driven bike and has been a joy for the 10k miles I've put on it so far. Back tire is really expensive though. I live near a big city and I've seen only 1 VMax and 1 Rocket 3 so far. Both are pretty unique.
I’ve had many bikes in my life. 14 Japanese bikes including a 2006 vmax and my last three have been Harley Davidsons. I love my Harley Davidsons I have to be honest. They have been reliable and give the impression they have “soul”. The only bike I would trade my road glide for is the second generation VMAX. It has an essence of power and soul and a fearful disposition you can’t find in any motorcycle nowadays. Just like the Harley, you get the impression there’s a monster in the chassis and I love it
Great present idea!! Oh, but dont forget you still have your wifey around, just incase you forget her when you sail out into the wildblueyonder on your first maiden voyage? Ha! (@@)
I just discovered your channel because I'm looking to add a 2nd gen vmax to my stable and I just realized we live in the same town. Great job with the videos and hopefully I'll get to see your vmax around town soon.
Great video and it turns out that you nailed it… RIP V-Max!!! You were right. It’s gone. I think it’s really cool that you bought the 2020 as it turns out it’s the last year of production. Better than the 2019 as far as bragging rights!!! You now own the “newest” V-Max that anyone will be able to purchase!!!!
Really nice video, Jeff. I'm a shaft drive guy too. I've been riding for over 50 years and been spoiled by the reliability of Yamahas and Hondas. My first motorcycle with a shaft drive was my Honda Shadow Aero. It's a 2006 and had always started first time, every time. It's very comfortable for my wife to ride with me. I had been ready to buy my grad bike; the Arch KRGT-1. However, I've tried to get more than a form email back from Arch through their website to no avail. So, I've decided to redefine my choice for my dream bike and am considering the Yamaha VMax. If you have the opportunity to see this comment and the time to let me know what you think about owning your VMax, I'd truly appreciate it. As we say in Cherokee, wado or thanks.
Picked up a 2nd Gen VMX1700 in January 2020 for $9,400 after finding out they were discontinued - as mentioned in the video. It had $5K of upgrades, factory bags, and paint with 10,000 on the odometer. Just bought a 30th anniversary Goldwing GL1800 last week for $3K less than the VMX1700. It still looks shiny and showroom new. Also have a 1997 Vmax 1200 I turned into a Mad Max machine and love tearing up the asphalt with that bike. Both the VMAX bikes will be keepers. Gen 1 and 2 VMAX machines will be the weekend hot rods. Never thought I would buy an "old man" bike, but it is an interesting flat 6 cylinder machine displacing 1,832 cc's that gets redlined often from 1st up into 3rd. Gets almost 40 miles per gallon with a 6.74 gallon tank and has the same torque as the 2nd Gen VMAX. The VMX 1700 tank is 4 gallons with almost a gallon of that as reserve and she drinks it quick ( But I didn't buy the VMAX bikes for mileage). The Wing will be a daily driver on those days I have to go into work (Telework has dropped from 100 percent to 45 percent - for now). Did not care for the new version Goldwing starting in 2018 as the 6th generation. But that auto DCT transmission is piquing my interest..... Been on Harleys since the early 1980s and now the Fatboy is just for when the mood strikes. So far, it's been collecting dust.
Hey Flash, That is a nice collection of bikes you have. I feel the Gold Wing just keeps getting better with each iteration. I always felt the fifth generation was a game changer over the 1500, especially with the styling. I feel the same way with 2018+ generation. I will be getting the DCT model. Interesting that the latest generation is 1833cc. I haven’t found any info on where they got that additional cc. 🤣😂😅 Anyway, my VMAX will also be my keeper, while I will possibly be getting newer models of the Gold Wing and other bikes. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
We look for the same features when shopping for our next motorcycle. No chains and as many low maintenance features as possible/easy regular maintenance.
I don’t know why but when the Vmax first came out I didn’t care for it and then over the years it’s grown on me because no one else has really come close to that style
@@ChaNnArD-mD actually the 750Magma spanks the Big VTX at the drag strip.... The Big VTX has more top end tho. Also Yammy made the OG VMAX to beat the V65 Magna....
Nice! Got my vmax in March. Such a hassle to buy.... dealerships in a whole region may be selling ONE vmax.. lol. Like u I feared that vmax was gonna get killed, so I stepped up my pursuit and got lucky. There were only 3 in 600mile radius from where I live.... essentially one in 3 nearby states. They so rare it's like they are sold on consignment. But I got lucky and cut through the fat. I see ppl online change out the exhaust, but as u said, that quad look is hot ,I will never change that. Congrats
Thanks. I had to go 180 miles in a different state to get mine. If that one would not have existed, the next closest one was about 500 miles. If you haven't done so already, check out my other video on my purchase experience. Your story sounds similar to what I describe in that video. My exhaust would be the last thing I would mod. I will be doing a video on mods I will NOT be making. 😎
Jeff, I believe you and I have shared experiences and in the same age group. As a 16 yo in 1983, I had the first Honda V65 Magna in my hometown and it was FUN!! I like it so much that I bought it 3 times. However, I never owned a Yamaha VMax until September 2020 when I stumbled across a Galaxy Blue 2016 in showroom condition. The bike is basically a Saturn V with wheels and handlebars for men who need that adrenalin rush every so often.
A lot of us who own a VMAX also have a history with the Magna. It’s the natural progression. 😁 Only folks our age will understand the Saturn V reference. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@JeffMarcum LOL Indeed! We are like fine wine, we get better with age, and we have seen a lot of history! Today was the 35th anniversary of Challenger. :-( In 1985-1986, a motorcycle magazine reported that Honda had a 'fire-breathing v65 Magna prototype" to counter the VMAX1200, but Honda decided not to escalate the horsepower wars because nice 'Honda people' don't need 200+ hp on a motorcycle. I wonder... did any images of that Honda V65 Magna gen2 ever leak to the Internet? -Ed
First thing...thank you for riding safely as most of us do. We all know what the Vmax is all about and I'm sure a lot of viewers were expecting you to drop the hammer. A visit to Thunder in the Valley will reveal a very large riding group who use the Vmax as a touring mount. Yamaha came out with the new V4 Venture before the Vmax. A photo of the Venture minus bags and fairings revealed a muscle bike, and soon the Vmax took its place alongside the Magna, the Eliminator, and the Madura. The Eliminator was based on the 900cc Ninja's inline 4. The engine in the Madura found life in a big touring bike but the power cruiser wars met the same fate as the muscle car era...yearly insurance premiums equal to the replacement cost of the bike. It is a tribute to Yamaha that the Vmax survives nearly 40 years later. You mentioned the four exhaust pipes...they echo the original CB750, the Z1, and the 750 Nighthawk, a great UJM of its time. Yamaha Star makes a V4 touring bike...my brother in law has one and although you can put a pipe on it that makes it sound like a SBC it kills the gas mileage, and that becomes a factor in places like Wyoming and Montana. Thanks for the ride.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comments. First, if you read all the comments in this thread, you will notice I already mentioned that I took MAX to redline in first gear and would release a video showing that. That’s what tomorrow’s video is about. I hope you like it…all four seconds of it.🤣 That is the extent of my “dropping the hammer”. Like many who ride, maybe most who ride, I like that quick acceleration from the start. That never gets old. However, once I get up to speed, I just as quickly back off. I have no interest in going triple digits, high-speed cornering, racing, etc. I was never into that. I want to live to ride another day. Second, I can appreciate your knowledge of the muscle bikes and other bikes of my era. The Eliminator and Madura were very respectable entries into the battle. It was nice that there were options back then, especially for those who were loyal to their brand. There are no such choices today. Alas, power cruisers have been overshadowed by sport bikes.
We are probably about the same age, I bought a new 1986 v-max in 1987. After owning a couple Honda 750 fours I purchased a 1982 suzuki GS1100E, I traded that in for a 1986 V-Max. I also lived in Chicago on the south west side and Purchased the v-max at a dealership in Chicago Ridge on southwest highway. Hope you enjoy that new one.
i also had a82 1100E, the bronze color, beautiful bike, tons of torque, i should have left it alone, i modded it and eventually bent a valve missing 2nd gear, then twisted the crank out of balance. miss that bike
@@robertpowers7856 That was a nice bike and I remember only seeing a few in that color, I blew out the clutch on mine [I heard that was a common thing for that year] Other than a Vance and hines exhaust mine was stock. I loved the way the GS1100 took corners because the V-Max had a shaft drive and it was the worse bike I ever rode in the corners.
Lol I had a 2015 vmax best bike I ever had so comfortable it handled like a sports bike and oh my god it was fast but unfortunately I had to sell it in 2018 2 years no bike I’m now in a 1983 650 nighthawk and it’s a cracking little bike .your vmax looks proper sweet looking forward to your next video
The MAX is a very comfortable bike which surprises people. I miss my Nighthawk. It must feel like a feather compared to this beast. Thanks for watching and commenting. New video every Friday.
I love the looks of this VMAX in the all-black color. Really suits this bike, I think. I don't think I'd ever buy one because acceleration is somewhat like a drug, and you always want more.... I'd probably lose my license if I owned that bike. So, better that I don't. I would love to test ride one someday though!
I am much younger than you Jeff. My first motorcycle was a 2002 Kawasaki ninja. But my first riding experience was a scooter, 50cc called Charly, when i was 16, back in Vietnam in 1993. Yes and i shared with you the hassle of having carbureted motorcycle. I spent some money to fix my ninja because it was gummed up, too, when i didn't ride and neglected the bike for 13 years. I have a 2002 883 but after watching this video, i have the Vmax in mind. Anyway i live in San Antonio and i get to ride a little longer before the winter comes again.
You picked a handful for a first bike. This is not the recommended path. 🤣 How many people tried to talk you out of going this route? Thanks for the continued support.
Great video I'm jealous I would love the new V Max my dream bike..I have a 1985 V Max it's a UK model no V Boost ..a few weeks ago I bought another iconic Yamaha a 2006 MT01 I'm absolutely loving it.
Howdy Jeff! I had a friend that traveled the same path as you - Nighthawk 650 to V65. Fine bikes, rode them both. I ended up with an 87' Vmax - awesome bike. I have had the great fortune to ride several fast bikes in their time , Kawi 1000 Eliminator, ZX-10 , GSX-R1100 - nothing to date scared me like the Max . How I miss it! You take care out there when bending the laws of physics! =)
Thanks for sharing. That Eliminator was a beast. If I remember correctly, that rear tire was huge, at least for that era. It made the rear tire on my Magna look like a bicycle tire. 🤣
Very interesting retrospective! Most unusual. Thanks for sharing! Chi town doesn’t sound fun….☹️😆✌️👍🇺🇸 BTW…Over 525 comments got to tell you something about your channel and the awesomeness of the VMAX! GoldwingMikeNY.
I love the VMAX like you ive been riding since the 80s my first bike was a honda interceptor 750, the only thing keeping me buying the VMAX was is low milleage fuel tank capacity so i went and bought a kawasaki concours instead no chain maintenance on this bike too but i can go on long trip without fueling every 120 miles, great video.
Man, I forgot all about that. I took a 1800 mile rode trip with a few buddies and they would just keep going while I would pull over every 110 miles to fuel up.
Shaft drive have used on 50s and 500 750 and 1200 and they all worked. the slipping was problem that could be solved but all the main dealers now do not use chain and sprockets.
I would LOVE to get a VMAX. Are they really going to stop manufacturing it?? I wish they'd come out with a Gen III. I think it would be perfect if they: - Added a 6th gear. Maybe 7th for highway cruising. - Upgraded headlights to LED projectors - Added the latest, most advanced electronics like multiple driving modes, ABS, wheelie control. - 2 charging ports - Revise the instrument cluster. I don't mind fully digital. I don't like digital Speedos + analog tachs (just my opinion) Any chance they would do this?
I'll be happy to answer that question because it's f****** awesome. I think the price has a lot to do with lack of sales as well it's a very expensive motorcycle.
Going on a tour with this glider will be a nightmare of visiting every gas station on the way! LOL! I once saw it was possible to install a 25 liter tank on them! That might help a bit! Other than that, I guess it must be fun to just roam around locally and burn asphalt!!😄
Like you my first bike in 84. 750 virago. I had a v65 sabre as well. I have not rode other then few times in Europe over the last 20 years or so. Likley to go back in with an old school concourse or st1100 now. You have a hell of a bike for a guy getting back in after awhile. Nice story.
Love the Vmax. was about to buy one in 2019 but Started seeing the Triumph rocket 3 so I waited. Bought My rocket 3R cause it was just so Comfy and nice. Only thing I didn't like about the VMax was how those intake rams ride right in the inner knee's. was Very Uncomfortable for me . I had an 06 GXSR 1000 and got smoked by a Vmax back in like 2011. That was good buy. Enjoy it 🤘🤘
2:02 This "Jacking effect" is not specific to shaft drives, in chain-driven ADV bikes they call it "anti-squat geometry", it can be useful for maintaining grip in low traction situations.
The reason somebody would buy a brand new vmax is simple, its the baddest stock cruiser there ever was and lets not forget the stunning good looks. I own a few bikes but the fastest bike i have at the moment is an 08 fz1. One day i will get me a new vmax but not anytime soon. In the past 2 yrs ive bought 4 bikes and i don't think my wife would be happy with me if i bought another. Until then i will just keep dreaming.
That is a Beautiful bike, always liked the Vmax an d am a fan of shaft drive bikes. Still have my 83 KZ1100 now am on a Goldwing. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching. Like I mentioned, the Goldwing is in my crosshairs. When I start shopping for that, I’ll post videos...if the dealerships let me record.
Myself I wanted the latest in electronics and something very comfortable still have my ZX-14 for touring. For 2020 I treated myself to KTM 1290 Super Duke R, it was very close second place the new VMAX. Since you been riding for decades like myself, try one out next summer test ride, make you feel 20 something again.
I was lucky enough to find a first gen vmax with only 8k miles on it as my first bike 3 yrs ago. I perfer the first gen looks over the second gen. But the second gen is still one hell of a bike.
Hi Jeff I was thinking about adding a Pueg Naked smoked windscreen to mine. I was hoping that you would get one and get it displayed so I could see if I like the fit. Lol Walmart and a few other places sell non ethanol 91 octane here in Ar. The only weakness of the VMax is it’s range, or lack there of. I’m traveling 30 miles to work one way it makes for a frequent fuel ups. Take care!
If I were to add a windscreen, it would be a small one such as the one Yamaha sells for the VMAX. I would be afraid anything bigger would make it look too much like a touring bike. Right now, I'm enjoying the raw, mean look. As for non ethanol, I have only found 87 octane non ethanol around here, which is too low for the MAX. If you are commuting daily to work, it sounds like you have fully recovered from your return trip from the dealer. :)
Jeff it’s a small one for sure the windscreen. And yes and thank you for remembering my trip up from Orlando. I rode it to Harrison, Ar. yesterday for its 2nd service approximately 140 miles round trip. Decided I’d get it done at 2,400 this go around with full synthetic. I hope the tech that did the work respected my VMax as much as I do. I guess it’s customary to ride after the service. As for me I’ve not revved it beyond 5 grand and really am in no hurry to do so. And thank you for the informative videos. They are very well done . 👍👍
@@jared2661able Thanks for the feedback on the videos. I’m glad you like them. I’m having fun putting them together. It’s good the VMAX can run on full synthetic. There was a time when some wet clutch bikes didn’t work properly with full synthetic. As for RPMs, after I hit 1000 miles, I took it to redline in first gear...I just had know. 😎 I’ll have a short video on that as well.
Jeff Marcum I do look forward to some aggressive RPMS! 😄 Be careful 😎 My second gear really surprised me on my way to work this morning. Felt like the front wheel got light during a roll of the throttle. I got a different non ethanol fuel, only a 91 octane, but between that and the cooler temperature and likely fully breaking in it is really running great! 😎
Your objection to chain drives is really extreme. I like “low maintenance” stuff as much as anyone, but having had chain driven bikes exclusively through my life, I find the maintenance to be ridiculously simple. I also get pleasure out of performing maintenance on my bikes. I can’t speak to the performance question because I’ve never had a shaft drive, but shaft versus chain is not a deal breaker for me. If I saw a shaft driven bike I liked, I’d buy it. In fact, I just read that Yamaha is ending the VMax, I may just go get one. It was always in the back of my mind to get one, but I’ve always loved the inline 4s... Perhaps you would consider reading “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” its a great book, it may change your approach to wrenching on bikes.
really like your videos.I own a 2016 all original. With due all respect, I think you should ride your max with a bit more rpm, It seems the rpm in your videos are around 3000 rpm or lower, which it can be very detriment to your engine. The lowest rpm I ride is 3500-4000rpm. This way I assure all the gas has been burnt in the chamber. Ride safe Jeff
Had an 04'. I would buy a 2020 VMAX because it's the baddest-ass bike on the planet. Love the murdered-out look. Do you still have it? Did you like the bike?

Some say: “If God made motorcycles, Devil would make VMAX”
I guess they are right.
Shame I cannot post you a picture here 😉
The first time I saw VMAX was on my way to Brands Hatch racing track near London to watch some motor racing.
My first bike was a Seca 750. 1983, Loved that bike and the shaft drive was nice.
The safest thing about these bike are the prices in the fact generally it’s an older generation who can afford them and who will appreciate and understand the power.
The V-Max was banned and un insurable in some states after the first year because of the high fatality rate. I paid 5,500 for mine and it was awesome.
I had a 2007, 1200 Vmax and liked it so much I brought a 2010, 1700 Vmax. Lots of power I enjoy the ride. Still fun after all these years.
Thanks for sharing
Just got my second gen and I absolutely love it.
I have one. It's hard to say, but I feel like someone build it special for me. Perfect bike.
My first street bike was a 1983 Yamaha SECA 750 shaft drive. Loved that bike.
Just like the Harley, you get the impression there’s a monster in the chassis and I love it
Love riding those rural farm roads
They are sereal, safe, scenic.
Great video
Thanks 😊
Thank you.
I have a 2015 VMAX. My dream bike, I bought it for a retirement present to myself. Best bike ever!
Great present idea!! Oh, but dont forget you still have your wifey around, just incase you forget her when you sail out into the wildblueyonder on your first maiden voyage? Ha! (@@)
Got my first shaft driving 83 Yamaha 225dx three wheeler. It still runs.
Thank you for the vlog! That bike is wild
I just discovered your channel because I'm looking to add a 2nd gen vmax to my stable and I just realized we live in the same town. Great job with the videos and hopefully I'll get to see your vmax around town soon.
Superb performance, looks, uniqueness, what more can anybody want.
Triumph 2500cc
Great video and it turns out that you nailed it… RIP V-Max!!! You were right. It’s gone. I think it’s really cool that you bought the 2020 as it turns out it’s the last year of production. Better than the 2019 as far as bragging rights!!! You now own the “newest” V-Max that anyone will be able to purchase!!!!
Yes, I’m glad the motorcycle bug bit me this year rather than next year. Thanks for watching.
I love the intro shot with the expensive helmet and cheap jacket.
Great bike, though!
Why wouldn't you want one. One of the best looking bikes out there. Rode a 2014 vmax, loved it.
I had the Honda V45 Magna 84 n I love it , not too heavy n quick, then I sold it n bought the 86 Yamaha VMax 1198 cc till now with 41k miles
Jeff I have 4 Harleys,a Ducati XDIAVEL,and a couple of other bikes,,,but my most favorite is MY 2020 V MAX,,,,LOVE IT!!!!!!
MAX stands apart from all others. It may not be as functional or as efficient as other bikes, but its fun factor is hard to beat!
I have the 2018 Vmax such a blast to ride
I like this talk-and-ride style of Vlogging, thanks for shraing.
What’s so hard about maintaining a chain drive?
I had that same 1984 Red Nighthawk. GREAT BIKE. Bought new in 11/84 for $2525!
I've had 2 Honda Magna motorcycles and I loved them both. They ARE fast too. Enjoy your V-Max.
I don’t know why but when the Vmax first came out I didn’t care for it and then over the years it’s grown on me because no one else has really come close to that style
Yamaha made the VMAX to put the VROD to shame, I still think my 02 VTX 1800C is better than all the bikes you mentioned combined.
@@ChaNnArD-mD actually the 750Magma spanks the Big VTX at the drag strip.... The Big VTX has more top end tho.
Also Yammy made the OG VMAX to beat the V65 Magna....
@@shane35fowler I don't care, my 02 VTX 1800C is the greatest motorcycle on the planet!
@@ChaNnArD-mD Good Bike.... But still in production? Guess not ever
I have two V4s. VFR 1200F and a Royalstar tour deluxe, both shaft drive, both V4, both very torque(y) and has a lot of powell at any gear.
Very nice. The first generation of the Royal Star Venture is where Yamaha got the engine for the original VMAX. V4s rock!
I own a 2011 Vmax and a 1992 Vmax 1300 (Venture engine with Vmax cams, gears etc. bolted on) and love both.
Nice as hell,,I'm stuck in 1980 I drive TT500 1980 power unit💪
GREAT now I want one ,was thinking Harley but, I had a vmax in the 90s now I miss it
Nothing wrong with American Harley. I bought 2020 road king, ultra smooth and hella strong . Either way, it’s not a measuring contest rooster.
-Ed
@@observationman35 High fatality numbers and Insurance companies refusing to insure some Motorcycles ended the speed wars of the 1980s
Thanks for watching and sharing your story. I remember the Honda 350 four....that was a game changing bike that influenced the entire industry.
i also had a82 1100E, the bronze color, beautiful bike, tons of torque, i should have left it alone, i modded it and eventually bent a valve missing 2nd gear, then twisted the crank out of balance. miss that bike
One of the best bikes out there period.
Just bought one today I haven’t got to ride it yet it want deliver until a couple of weeks but can’t wait
I'll tell you Jeff this thing is badass and this is my first bike I've ever owned ever road it's no joke keep up the good videos absolutely fantastic
You picked a handful for a first bike. This is not the recommended path. 🤣 How many people tried to talk you out of going this route? Thanks for the continued support.
My first bike He's says good grief there's always one...Darwin award hopeful.
Great video I'm jealous I would love the new V Max my dream bike..I have a 1985 V Max it's a UK model no V Boost ..a few weeks ago I bought another iconic Yamaha a 2006 MT01 I'm absolutely loving it.
Always liked it, it looks like no other. Badass bike! 1 of a kind definitely great for any collector
Very nice bike,I had the 1200 b4 and have started looking for a 1700 vmax now.
Most beautiful motorcycle ever built
My first gen vmax is my first and current bike. I got a great deal on it.
Please post as much as you can!!! I'm itching to get one...
New Video every Friday. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Jeff.I will be looking for the other videos👍
I can understand why you like your VMAX so much. That other thing...it's a monster bike too!
I didn't even know these existed. Found by total accident. It's not my cup of tea but it's a cool bike nevertheless! Glad your enjoying 👍
This is the best bike I ever rode! It blew my 07 HD softail deluxe 94 c.i out of the water in both performance and rideability.
Well I would hope so.
are you talking about the v max or the Nighthawk?? fast forward to 7:07
Ilove it! One day I buy 8. In Godswill ❤❤❤
Let’s be honest the bike is just a beast of a bike
Very interesting retrospective! Most unusual. Thanks for sharing! Chi town doesn’t sound fun….☹️😆✌️👍🇺🇸 BTW…Over 525 comments got to tell you something about your channel and the awesomeness of the VMAX! GoldwingMikeNY.
I totaled a shaft drive 700 Honda Sabre. Like you said, I didn't care for the jerking but it definitely wasn't slow off the line.
Thank you. Good choice with the Kawasaki.
Man, I forgot all about that. I took a 1800 mile rode trip with a few buddies and they would just keep going while I would pull over every 110 miles to fuel up.
Beauty. Best looking muscle cruiser out there, in my opinion...
I think it would be perfect if they:
- Added a 6th gear. Maybe 7th for highway cruising.
- Upgraded headlights to LED projectors
- Added the latest, most advanced electronics like multiple driving modes, ABS, wheelie control.
- 2 charging ports
- Revise the instrument cluster. I don't mind fully digital. I don't like digital Speedos + analog tachs (just my opinion)
Any chance they would do this?
I like your improvements. Let's hope Yamaha makes a Gen 3.
The rider is the wheelie control
I'll be happy to answer that question because it's f****** awesome. I think the price has a lot to do with lack of sales as well it's a very expensive motorcycle.
Greetings from Portugal! 😉✌️
Hello there. Thanks for watching.
Nice story.
Thank you. It would be nice if Honda brought back the ST. They have no longer have a sport touring bike similar to a Concourse or FJR.
Smart decision. ! mine is a first
gen 1200 and it is very reliable , has
the v boost as well. R
Good point. Thanks for sharing.
My uncle has a 1987 Vmax, other than fading paint, that darn thing never breaks.
Yes, Yamahas are known for their reliability and longevity.
Why would anyone buy a 2020 vmax, because it’s an awesome machine that’s why!!!
Today i drove my vmax in Germany, open autobahn, 246.55 km/h gps speed. And i tested the acceleration with an app. I got a 2.91sec to 100km/h.
My first bike was that same 650. Great machine
I ran a 10 sec 1/4 mile on my 85, I loved that bike.
If I remember right, back in the day, it was the fastest production bike in the 1/4 mile
I’m all for feeling like I’m in my 20s again. 😜
Did you ever consider the Rocket...?
I was lucky enough to find a first gen vmax with only 8k miles on it as my first bike 3 yrs ago. I perfer the first gen looks over the second gen. But the second gen is still one hell of a bike.
Awesome video. Keep them coming. My dad rode the old 1200 once and until today still can’t keep quiet about it. Subscribed btw.
Thanks for watching, subscribing, and commenting. We all remember our first ride on a VMAX. 😎 My first was a friend’s 1994.
