When bikes are in your soul, you easily get in love with the VMAX. In late 80,s that happened to me, I had to wait almost 30 years to get one, at over 60 years it,s always challenging to take it to the limit, cornering and braking are not the best, but it makes it more enjoyable. Thanks "great vid" Hug from Costa Rica!
My 2018 has great brakes! Like a truck.
Gen 2 is a velvet ride. I have one.
Bought a new VMax in 2001. Still ride it. Also did some mods. Switched out a Venture diff to reduce rpms on the highway. Still plenty of torque. Cut 1 1/2 inches off the seat. Put longer forks and slightly shorter shocks for handling. Then forward controls. Now I have a great crjuiser with gobs of power.
Excellent video…..best one I’ve seen so far…..had a ‘85, ‘86 and just recently bought an ‘06…..I’m 68 and couldn’t stay away any longer…..as iconic as any motorcycle has ever been.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. The Vmax is truly an iconic motorcycle and worthy of an in depth video all about it.
66 years and have a Stage 7 ´94....love it. Good vid !
I had an 88 VMax that I bought new during the winter and the dealer stored it for me until April. I loved that bike and rode it every chance I got. I hated the stock Dunlop tires it came with and switched them out for Metzlers which completely change the handling. The bike was fantastic in a straight line, but don't try to force it through twisty's too fast, it really didn't like that. I would describe it as a rocket powered steer when asked what it was like to ride it. Grab the bars and hold on but don't try to turn it. I used it to commute to work and with mostly freeway driving I could get almost 40mpg out of it, as long as I wasn't topping it out. I knew that around 100 miles I better be looking for fuel. That bike would pull the front wheel so easy, you really had to be on your game when it started lifting that front wheel. I miss that bike, I sold it in the mid 90's to a guy who kept bugging me to buy it.
I own a 1985.
Best bike i ever owned.
The only bike that tries to kill every time i get on it 😄
Told a guy, who asked at a bar, riding my gen 2, "It'll kill ya if you let it!"
@@spunas1 you are so correct my 1700 max does it to me all the time above 130
Really informative, fun and engaging video, entertaining as well. This is the best video I've seen on the VMax. I look forward to seeing more like this. Thanks for sharing.
i think i found my new favorite channel, love the presentation! subbed pls upload more
Thank you, I love to hear that - it helps fuel my interest to continue making videos. I'm currently working on one right now. It's about a car but a very interesting car. One that sadly never went to market but a few of them were fully built. It would have really shaken up the sports car landscape if it went to market.
Has such a cool and aggressive look to it. Great video.
Just like your other videos I always learn something new.
And bringing back to my memories those days of muscle cars and bikes that I was blessed to be part of
Thanks
2:58 Guys do you know who’s that dude ??? It was Jean-Claude OLIVIER, « JCO », the big boss of YAMAHA in my country, FRANCE.
It’s thank to him we had the VMax in the country…
He was legendary and his successor too !!! Éric DE SEYNES even became the first westerner to be one of the BIG BOSSES of Yamaha JAPAN !!!!!
Two absolute AMAZING men.
I had a friend of my dad riding us kids around on one of these blacktop ballistic missiles back in 85-86! Howie T is what we called him. He got a flat front tire at the lake, and just rode wheelies the rest of night Crazy as the bike he rode! Loved every minute! One of the best bikes ever made, period. WolfmanVegas!
V-Max 1st Generation RULES! Forever! A class of it's own ........a Dragger ........without comptetition for almost 40 years. True Cultbike. Riding the 1999 carbon version....In absolute new state with 70tkm and Yamaha serviced. NEVER for sale
Great overall video DA, Brings back great memories of the mighty V Max. Cheers Dale Walker
Thee Dale Walker? Wow, what an honor! Thanks for watching and commenting on my video! I'm glad you liked it. 😁
I have owned a lot of motorcycles in my lifetime TL1000R GSXR 1100 and the VMAX the VMAX is no joke one of the baddest motorcycle that I have ever owned and I love those bikes much love Yamaha love the video
My guy, FANTASTIC vid! I have an 05 in my stable and it's my go to for illegal hooliganism!
Thank you! Illegal hooliganism... That sounds like a good time! The Max is certainly a prime choice for such activities.
Good review, tells you everything you need to know about the vmax, the legend.
Thanks Dave good video man!
Great content. Whether it’s cars or bikes. We all love the open road. Glad I came across your channel and am a new sub. Keep up the great work. From Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦.
Thank you. I appreciate that 😊 I plan to continue making entertaining and informative videos! Working on one right now.
Superb video! The VMAX 1200 it is a Legend indeed!
I have two of these first gen bikes in my living room.
Sounds like you have the best living room!
@@da_garage383 small man cave. I'm also adding a 1985 v65 magna and a 1980 gs1100 L chain drive. 16 valve motor.
There is currently also a 2014 cb1100 f. And a 1994 c4 corvette.
@@da_garage383 I don't let the corvette in the house as of yet.
@@mikepierce4739I’m 65 and I have a 1985 V65 Sabre and a 1981 GS 1100 with only 144 Kms on it. Not in the living room but maybe one day. I’m in cold Alberta and I just picked up the Sabre. Can’t wait for spring. Been riding a 1992 Suzuki GSX1100. My son and were riding it. Bought it with 2500 Kms on it in near mint condition. It now has 12,000 Kms on it. I had a 39 year break riding but am now hooked again. Enjoy your bikes and safe riding.
Great job! Subscribed
Thank you! 😊
YOU DID IT GOOOOD JOB MAN!
Dope video!!!
Thank you!
Back in the late 80's we had a pretty good group of riders with sport bikes, a couple of Ninja's some GSX-R's some Honda Hurricane's and a VFR and one FZR 1000. A guy with a V Max showed up and started riding with us, he had the acceleration but on the highway he couldn't even keep up with the 600 sport bikes because of high speed wobble
My wobble turned out to be the shocks under pressure.
Great video
Thank you! 😊
One change most people don’t remember is that in 1988 the mighty max lost it’s unique cams and was fitted with standard venture😢cams. I bought a new one in 1988. Sadly the best i ever ran was 11.06 @121 mph. I could knock out high 10 second times on my friends 1985 all day long.
Great video 5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.... now, how's bout that Honda Hurricane video...???
Thank you! Sounds like I'll have to look into that.
Great video. I love the V-Max. Ad a dark blue 90 and it never let me down for 21 years. Was molded by Hole shot performance and was a beast. Wish i had it now only sold it a friend because i was traveling a lot and modern gas didn’t sit well in the carbs was a lot of work the clean every time I got back. And i had a Gen II by then anyway which i still own to this day. Yes it’s true. The original gen II motors were to strong. They didn’t just detune them. They were larger engine. I believe the one they used was the 3rd motor and it had to be detune to get the combination they wanted and thought would work for street use. So for all those that got one gen I or II. Enjoy there will be no more.
When the VMax ruled!
It still does. I have a 2018.
I was 9yr old first time I got a ride on the 85 Vmax and I fell in ❤ love i finally bought a 2007 and the original 1985-6 that I got my first ride on. My profile pic is supposed to change it's of my 2007❤ . My Mom accidently dropped her chair on it while in storage the chip in the tank looks like a Heart so I wasn't 😡 mad. Thanks for the cool video love the Vmax and Respect The Power of the bike because it will Bite you ❤ if you thinking of buying one definitely Do. Update i put a picture of a Bike's I've had and my Vmax on my TH-cam page 👍
My 94 has 170 main jets. And gets 16 mpg. But makes 180 hp.
“Can’t resist the twist!” That’s what us Vmax owners have burned in our brains!!! (2015 here). I told the wife, she’ll go before my Beast Max! Hoooah!
Keep the oil light on !!
I have a 2018, Gen 2. The 2 biggest upgrades to do, are the double d clutch mod, and software. The performance upgrade from the software is rough on the clutch. DD mod fixes that. The throttle is fly by wire. Original software, in 4th and 5th gear, only gives around 40 percent throttle at 100 percent throttle input. The software upgrades turns all the bs off. My bike was 1 year old when I got it in 2019. So, the original owner either did not like it, or it scared the bajeebers out of him. My ride is just shy of 55k miles. I had been through 13 sets of tires. It rides amazing, corners great, and has TONS of tourque. Especially at the exit of the turn. Power from 1000 rpm, all the way to 9500 rpm. MILES OF SMILES!
13 sets of tires?! Wowee! Must be having a great time making use of all that power.
YES!

I'm not really a cruiser guy, but whenever I see a VMax (or a VRod honestly) I stop to talk with the owne. They're badass machines.
I smoled a v rod with my 2018 Vmax.
Mmmmh, the V - Rod with forward controls is a most beautiful. Motorcycle 😮 it has an amazing sound at 7k, and on the tight twisty country roads , it's quicker 😎 out of the corners than Gen 2 max the ,Rod is a very fast machine on the straight too. The V-Max Gen 2 in and out of a bend ridden hard has an appalling throttle response like a light switch either on or off just frickin awful 😖 it's restricted in 1st 2nd & 3rd and fifth gear is detuned in the mapping besides all my frustration of the bike its got the sound of two V-Rods at the twist grip & super comfy the suspension & brakes are 1st class 👌 the only thing that needs re-mapping is that bloody throttle & the bike is perfect as it is, you can do a quick mod to the airfilter for about 10 bhp more if you remove the gear restrictions you better have a 240 tyre on the rear , having a full remap makes you treat it with utter respect and makes it a slippy predator next to a gen one hayabusa till the busa out runs 🏃♀️ 😀 👍 it, the max is very thirsty unless you tinker along gently enjoying the ride I 😉 I say this I have these bikes and from being born a Motorcycle prostitute 😂😅 😮
@@HayabusaGSXR-cv6ig I had my max tuned and mapped, and It will smoke a Vrod.
@@bradhartis1929A Gen 1 Vmax will smoke a V-rod
My buddy put Akra exhaust, K&N filter and a tune... and he said it had 265hp 168ft lbs
premium content made by a premium dude!
Thanks man! I appreciate it 🙏 😌
I love my 96 V Max
Love my 04
The scoopa on the right house the radiator cap and the scoops on the left house the vboost controls turn signal relays and auto canceling. The horn is on the cross bar under the engine
And think you could get one a little over $3000 before Reagan did his number. I loved how it handled on the freeway, not so much in the corners. It was fun passing everybody until they caught up to you. Filling up your 3 gallon tank, or getting a ticket from a police officer. Just try to throw all your camping gear on the back, and then try to fill it up.😂
I bought a 95 and asked my wife if she wanted to ride. NOPE!!! I asked why, she said that it just looked scary. I called it my red-light bike; for synchronized redlights, you end up getting to the next one before it changes. I had to sell it as either i was going to die, get a reckless driving ticket or be in jail. That throttle is addictive. I loved my Max. I bought a V-Star and very disappointed, maybe just ruined from the Max.
i love my 2002 with UFO pipes..bad ass..
I’m just sad they stopped making them.
"the Vmax will rocket past anything".. (clears his throat) except for the Sabre ! (For 84 anyway, after that it was the Vmax) 1984 the Honda V65 Sabre "the fastest production motorcycle in the world !" Cheers !!
Oh I know... I'm a proud owner of a V65 Sabre! What a hoot it is!
I just got one couple months ago. Very calm at 5g and below. It has plenty of torque that really ya could and I do roll around all innocent much of the time.
Whipped a little bit and ya better knoe where you are going cuz you are already there.
And probably need to start looking for a gas station. . I keep a one gallon gas can in a saddle bag.
Due to experience...
Just bought 1986 with 6900 original miles on it
All my neighbors love my Vmax with supertraps! Its quieter than my last bike! Remember, if you break em in hard you can ride em hard. Neighbors I mean 😎
8:43 это я))
They were quite the units but the most legendary muscle bike is of course the H2...
Too much rubber on your rear tire? No problem 😂
Venture 90 hp at the wheel fyi.
Triumph Rocket is the baddest muscle bike , the best looking, and thats final ....vmax phhhhh
All four of those bikes sound like shit. My 85 Vmax sounds way better with its kerker 4 into one exhaust setup. It sound like like an old chevy HO 454 big block with the Vboost active throughout my whole 9000rmp power band.
The ONLY thing I don't like about the Max is its shaft drive.
Gimme a chain and changeable gears.
Too much power for a chain😁
Nooooooo
Problem being, if you use the vboost a lot, you would be replacing chain & sprockets very often & they would not be cheap
at 10:08 , Bubbles of the TPB makes this video perfect! gained a subcription!
It was fun throwing that in there during editing. Even made me chuckle a little. 😄
