Thank you for taking the time to watch! I’d love to hear what styling tips you’d like to see in this series! What do you struggle with when it comes to styling your hair?
Knowing the correct products to use on my thick hair. Your tips though are going a very long way in helping me though. I feel like when I get my hair cut soon I’ll be a lot more confident in trying to style it.
Megan Harrington hey! You know what....this may seem silly but I’ve actually not even thought about doing product knowledge videos!!!!! Don’t ask me why! In my mind I go straight to the more technical stuff I guess.....but you’ve got a great idea and I’ll totally do some! Thank you!!
Love your videos. Especially love how you have your wife do it so we see what it is like when we would do it ourselves. I can never seem to get the same results as I do from my stylist, but with you explaining everything and having your wife do it makes so much more sense now. Thanks for taking the time to do these vidoes!
The two of you demonstrating the various techniques is wonderful. Vastly helpful watching your gorgeous wife blow out her hair versus a “professional” blow dry where you make it look both easy AND complicated, if that makes sense. If your wife is game, I’d love more of these ‘real world’ tutorials. Many thanks. What a great looking couple you are!
YESSSSS! Loved this! I have THICK BEAUTIFUL HEALTHY HAIR AT 64. Just above the shoulder natural body still! Have a lob hair style. Never use brush / only wide mouth comb. Round brush for styling. Very helpful! ❤. I do most of what you showed
Oh my gosh! Why did it take me 53 years to find you? I stumbled across this video and thought meh, I know how to blow dry my hair. I watched it and gave it a try and damnnnnnnnn, i look like I had my hair blown dry by a professional. Imagine that. I happen to have the same brush that you used in the video. Everything you said to do I did and it works my fine hair has body and looks like there’s twice as much there. Thank you so much for doing what you do!
I learn so much more from this video by you allowing her to do her own hair with the blow dryer and round brush. Please do more videos like that. I’d love to see a video on how she would do a beach wave with a flat iron.
Thank you Linda! I appreciate you taking the time to check out my video. I actually did a video of exactly what you’re asking for here. Check it out if you haven’t already. :)
Loved this! So helpful! After too many years of incorrect, frustrating blow drying and frizz! Best tips: tipping head over, drying roots with hands and best of all twirling brush up and out, not DOWN. I have the Olivia brushes too. Hallelujah @Justin Hickox!
Thank you SO MUCH for this series! I’d love to get guidance on drying the back myself. I’ve got very thick hair just below shoulder length, and it’s tricky to section, brush and blow all at the same time. Thanks!
Loved your video. I still in tip I have is for curly dry hair after shampooing and conditioning your hair put one or 2 teaspoons of coconut all throughout your hair it will take care of the frizzies and allow you to style it however you want.
Thank you. I have asked so many hairstylist over the years 'Show me how ro do what yor doing to my hair, as I do it myself" & not one person has helped me out. I do not ave straight hair, like your model - but I do like to blow my hair out now and then. I have very wavy/thick hair. If you ever have a model with the same hair type, I would appreciate a demonstration. Thank you, again.
Awesome! I’m glad I could help. I’ll make sure to create a video if I get a client with that same texture that is willing to be on some! Thanks for the feedback.
This is really helpful because I'm so useless at doing my own hair. I have thin hair so end up having too much product so it looks heavy, flat and greasy or the blowdryer just creates a frizzball when I don't use product. Also trying to know how to hold the dryer is always tricky. Really enjoyed this video. I'll give it a go! Thank you!
You and your wife are awesome! My struggle is how to tame my very thick very coarse hair I have a long face and have it shoulder length but my sides keep growing out fast and weigh everything down. And at 51 I don’t need it to age me any more than i am already... I know you responded that you were going to work it on a future video, I’m just giving detail. Love your tips and that you share your expertise. Much appreciated
Hey! Thanks for reaching out. I appreciate the info. I’ll definitely consider that when I’m working on that video. I may have some other things in mind to help you as well! :) still finalizing that so I don’t want to say anything yet. :) thanks again for your support!
Your Wife is amazing! Intelligent, supportive & I love her sense of humour too! She is a natural beauty and it's so good to see a woman not "hiding behind a tonne of makeup" You make a great team. Thank you for your extremely practical advice to those of us who struggle to style our hair ( I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels "Oh this is to hard so just put it in a ponytail or messybun.... ) so TY once again Justin for your channel. During lockdown what better time to educate the Academics who had our head in the books while the rest of the population was doing their hair LOL . Your channel is "JUSTIN-TIME" LOL . I am binge watching between study and reports for work, so your videos are my reward for attaining my goals ( or sometimes partially..... ) I think inspiration can really spur the brain on ; D
These videos are so helpful. When a professional does all the work it’s hard for me to catch on, but watching you teach your beautiful model is so helpful. I do my hair exactly how she was doing hers before you corrected her, and I had no clue why it never looks like what my stylist does.
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it. I think it’s much easier to follow when people can watch someone doing it on themselves rather than a stylist working on a client.
Great tips…..after sooooo many years this is so basic to know but the stylists do not teach, and looking at them is not the way to learn ! Great student with your wife. So sweet and patient for your híper personality. Great couple! Many blessings ❤
Today I learned a lot about hair styling from your channel! Your wife's idea about doing it herself while you explained how it should be done was great! Btw, I'd love if you could give some ideas about how to style a medium to long thin hair for people with receding chin. Thanks & keep up with the good work! 😊👍
This really really was so helpful. What a great idea. Up until this point I was still blowing my hair dry and then hitting with my straighter. I feel like I could possibly give myself a proper blowout after watching this.
Wow. For 50 years, the only thing I did correctly was use mousse and bend over to dry my hair. Couldn't figure out how to use the brush with the dryer so I just gave up. Thank you SO much for sharing your knowledge so generously (and for your wife's suggestion). I'll check out the Dyson dryer. Love your videos!
Thank you so much. I just stumbled upon your channel while searching for help with my hair. Your wife is brilliant with her idea. Please keep making your videos. Love them.
Awh thanks!!!! I really appreciate that!! I’ll make sure to tell my wife you said that!!! She’ll be stoked to hear it......then continue to remind me of it every hour on the hour for the next 6 months! Lmao!!!!! I honestly appreciate your support. Thank you!
I realize this video was created a year ago… But thank you so much! It was so instructive to watch your beautiful wife do it herself. I have a waist length hair and use the Olivia garden large round brush to dry and smooth my wavy fine hair. When finished I then use a small-maybe 1”, at the crown on top close to the scalp to create instant lift.
Your tutorials are fantastic! after being sick for so long, it has thinned out so much and i have almost given up on my hair. I have learned so much in three of your videos and can't wait to put them to practical use. Looking forward to more videos. Giving me hope!! Thank you
Love this Justin I've watched this video numerous times and love Deonnas hair cut I love her hair my hair is her length how would I tell my stylist to cut my hair like this really ?? Love how her layers are it doesn't take away her length in the front sides thanks so much!!💯
What a GREAT IDEA! I loved all the techniques you showed us! I make the same mistakes you wife made 🤭 Can you please make a video on how to blow dry the back of the hair? Is always the more complicated for me ! (Medium length or long hair) And also how to deal with cowlicks.... grrrr!!! I have a rebel one with my bangs Thank youuuu!!! You just got a new subscriber and a thump up from me !
Thank you! I can’t take credit for the idea....it was my wives. She’s smarter than me....but don’t tell her! :) I’ll definitely work that into a future video! Thanks so much for the feedback and support!
I’m sure you’ve covered this but I can never get enough volume tips for us ladies with wavy/curly hair. I guess my main things are layering it strategically and root lift. And gel. But I need all the tips I can get! :)
As long winded as the explanations are, I think it’s worth it. You showed us how we SHOULD do it vs how we should NOT do it. I like that. Shows us what success looks like. Thank you.
Justin, heart felt thanks for your videos. I am 46, and I can't tell you how much I've spent on stylists (including going to Bon Jovi's) just to try to get a good hair cut. I have had damaged hair all my life because 1) I didn't know about combing/detangling 2) I didn't know how to properly blow dry (always went perpendicular to my hair) 3) didn't use good shampoos or products. Literally just by using a wet brush and drying my hair the direction you said, my hair went from Homeless to Haute! It's pretty sad to be learning this so late. I wish my stylists had taught me. My mom didn't know either and I am going to pass on this knowledge to her and my sister. Again, thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!
Justin, thank you. This vid helped my hair look a bit better. Great tip on how to distribute mousse and shine products. The only thing is, I'm still not sure I'm holding blowdryer correct. I'll watch vid again.
Awesome! I’m so glad the tips are working for you!!!!! The blowdryer can be a tough one to get used to using correctly. Definitely go through that part of the video again. The biggest thing is to just make sure the airflow is parallel to the hair strand and pointed down the hair shaft not up it. Hope that helps a little.
Just found your channel! These are great styling videos ... I am learning a lot! It is absolutely great to have a model (your lovely wife, in this case!) who does "all the things" that prompt you to demonstrate the better way to get great results. Thanks ... really loving these!
I just found your channel and subscribed. This video was so helpful! A suggestion for another tutorial is what types of hair products for styling to use such as mousse, gels, pastes, etc. and when you would use them/for what purpose. Looking forward to more! Thank you!!
Outstanding video. Every stylist should teach us how to dry & style our hair! I can never come close to making my hair look as pretty as my stylist does.
It is not easy at all to do at home what the professional does in the salon. We could clearly see this. Great video. Realistic. Please bring us more of this. Thank you
What a great video! I just bought one of these brushes and needed to learn how to use it. I like the way you had the actual client do her own hair, instead of you doing her hair.
Justin- thank you for posting links to products. Can you tell me what size barrel you use on your wife’s hair for the round brush? My hair is similar length. Love your videos! Please keep them coming!
Many thanks for this excellent instructional demo! What I struggle with is fine hair that won't hold a style. I have tried various styling products to add body to my hair but they either weigh it down and make it flat or leave a gummy or hard coating that results in broken ends and lots of hair in my comb or brush.
Thank you for the feedback I’m glad you liked it! I totally hear what you’re saying, product to create volume in fine hair can be tough to find. I have a video idea coming up soon where I am planning on showing some of my favorite products for that exact situation. I think you’ll love it!
I've been binge watching your videos! You and your lovely wife are amazing! You explain things so well. My question, If your hair is a little damaged from curling & highliting, would you add a leave in conditioner product at the beginning along with the volumizing mousse?
Very helpful video. I've never had much success with a round brush, but your tips give me courage to try again. Your wife is very beautiful and smart! Thanks to her for her suggestion. I really like videos where you teach your tips by letting the model use them on herself.
I just found your channel and love the videos, thank you so much for making them! I also love my Dyson dryer, it’s the kindest one I’ve ever owned to my fine but thick, wavy, cowlicky, highlighted hair. One tip I can share is, after using the dryer and a round brush on a section, I flip the dryer over and let it’s air intake on the back sit over the section for a few seconds. It cools the hair and sets it, makes it shinier, and is also faster (for me) than running the dryer on cool over my whole head after blow drying. Thanks again, and I look forward to more videos.
She looks great! Beautiful hair color, highlights and layering. I love the Olivia Garden round brushes. I now know how better to use them. Thanks for the tips.
I have fine hair but a lot of it and my issue is that no matter what I do, what products I use, when I finish styling (even if I use a generous amount of hair spray), my style falls flat and looks like I haven't done anything as soon as my hair is moved - I.e. I shake my head, a gentle breeze moves it. My current arsenal of products is: thickening spray (applied at roots and all over), thickening mousse (optional), hair spray. For the crown I use hair spray for each section before back combing. If I didn't use spray, the back combing would not work because my hair just slides out as I reposition the section. Thank you for doing these videos - your instructions are clear and very thorough! Terry from Cambridge Ontario
I should tell you that I have a shoulder length layered cut similar to your wife's. My hair has a nice wave, so it's not poker straight. Depending on the humidity, there is enough curl that I can help enhance thst curl but omce again, if I brush my hair after its done, the curl will come out and only a gentle wave remains. I hope that in formation helps you provide me with guidance or suggestions.
Great question. It’s gonna depend on how your hair is layered. Even though it’s fine, like you said you have a lot of it. Because of that it can be very heavy, and react like you’re experiencing. You may have a scenario where you actually need to go in and check it out a bit. Sounds crazy but done correctly it can lighten up your layers and give you more left. There are a few techniques that may help but unfortunately they’re pretty hard to explain over text. Mainly I would make sure that your layers are short enough and light enough but not too shortTo where they do not challenge the length. I hope that helps a little bit.
Hi Justin! New subscriber here. Watched most of your videos the last weekend and love them. This one was very helpful and I‘ll surely think of you when I dry my hair the next time. Have the Dyson 😊. Your wife is an absolute natural beauty!!! Take care of her. Greetings from far away in Germany, Sabine 😘
Hey Sabsa! Thank you so much! That means a lot to me! 🙏. I’m stoked you’re finding value in my videos. If there’s ever a video topic you want me to make, please feel free to throw it at me!! I’ll let my wife know what you said, she’ll love to hear that and yes, I’m a lucky man! :) Thanks again! Cheers!
Love this Justin, especially as I have curly hair & if I want a straight style i use GHD straighteners, I use rarely due to damage so I depend on large round brush & blow dry, or I let it dry on it's own after a quick blast of drying roots like you've just done. Learned so much more about different types of brushes. Thank you for sharing. 🥰
WOW! I discovered your channel an hour ago, and have binge watched since! Your personality and your hairskills are amazing! Your generosity in hairtips is outstanding! I live in Norway, but if I take a USA trip I will visit you! Maybe next year, I hope.
Hey Monika! Thank you so much!!! I’d be honored to have you stop in on your next trip! Thank you so much for the kind words! I truly appreciate your feedback!!!!
@@justinhickox Oh, I hope to be able to be going on a vacation to the USA next year. Thank you for close and direct contact with your audience. You seem so genuine and lovely. And what beautiful people in your family!
Thank You for all the helpful tips. I wish I could get you to cut my hair. When you get older and your hair thins out, it's nerve wrecking to get a haircut. I'm always afraid of getting a bad haircut.
Thank you so much for the video. I found your channel and have learned so much about how to styling and blow dry my hair plus many others videos. I always have trouble trying to volume my crown, the right side does not look the same height as the left side. No matter how my hair cut in layers. My hair part to the right side and have swept side bang. Do you have any advice?
Justin!! You are making a color mistake that you have repeated in several videos! You look nice in the dark T-shirt styles. I appreciate seeing different hair color in the models chosen. This is where the color mistakes occur. Dark hair against a dark t-shirt & I cannot see what you are demonstrating. I appreciate the knowledge & experience you share with your viewers. One more appreciative comment. I've been unable to go for walks in the woods the last 20 of my 76 years. It is so nice to "walk" with you. Because I have watched several of your videos, I don't know which of these comments match this particular one. Once again Thank you! Thank you! Thank you.
You know what I appreciate about you Jane, you’re giving constructive criticism in a kinder way. So many people have yelled at me in the comments about wearing dark against dark hair. I made that mistake a handful of times when I first started my channel and was still learning how to create videos etc. I’ve tried to be very aware of that concern since and now I’m learning about all sorts of other mistakes I’m growing from. I’m truly glad I can take you back into the woods for some virtual walks. I appreciate your insight and support on my channel. Thanks again.
@@justinhickox Not to take too much of your time, but if those were your "early" experiences--that is amazing! Very polished presentation but still able to have a personal touch. I really appreciate all I'm learning.
I loved your videos.i have fine life less hair. I'm definitely going to give these products a try. I'm wondering thought about the mythical oil, if it's going to be too dense for my hair
Great idea on how to do professional blow-outs yourself at home! You have convinced me to buy an Olivia Garden round brush. Which diameter you would recommend for my hair length? I have naturally straight hair (not even a curve, let alone a curl), fine-ish strands but pretty dense, and it is cut into a short bob (cut is very similar to the gorgeous silver-haired model in your challenge with the two other stylists).
How to combat thinning hair with supplements or products as well as best styling for thinning. Also the best styles for those who unfortunately inherit a double chin
Hey thank you for the suggestions! I’m excited to say that next weeks video is all about hair health and I will be covering some products specifically for hair thinning. I’ll definitely take in the consideration your other suggestions as well for future videos. Thanks again for the feedback.
LOVE this potential series! Also gorgeous model/wife! Seems like hot rollers are making a comeback, do you have advice/experience working with those. I love the idea & soft look they give for date night 💕
Thank you so much! And I’ll make sure to let her know you said that, she’ll love to hear it. Rollers can be great depending on the shape of the hair and the overall style that you want to achieve.
Thank you for taking the time to watch! I’d love to hear what styling tips you’d like to see in this series! What do you struggle with when it comes to styling your hair?

I never know what to do with my hair!
Thank you! This was amazing. :)
I followed along and blow dried my hair and I have to say it was the best blowout I’ve ever done myself. Thank you for all the great tips!
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for sharing. I’m so glad I could help.
This is one of the best training videos on blowing drying one’s own hair. I like that she did her own hair while you gave tips.
Thank you for taking the time to make these tutorials. You have a great teaching style.
Thank you so much Lorna!!! I truly appreciate the kind words!!! Thanks for the support!
Thank you! That was fantastic! Please do more of these showing how to hold flat irons, curling irons, wands, etc..
Thank you!!! And....guess what!!!.... if you’re curious about flat irons, I think you MAY like next weeks video! 😉

I love your videos. Thank you for teaching us how to improve our hairs, and ourselves.
Just found your channel! These are great styling videos ... I am learning a lot! It is absolutely great to have a model (your lovely wife, in this case!) who does "all the things" that prompt you to demonstrate the better way to get great results. Thanks ... really loving these!
You’re so welcome thank you for checking it out!!!
I just found your channel and subscribed. This video was so helpful! A suggestion for another tutorial is what types of hair products for styling to use such as mousse, gels, pastes, etc. and when you would use them/for what purpose. Looking forward to more! Thank you!!
Thank you so much! That’s definitely a video I need to make! I appreciate the feedback and suggestion!
Outstanding video. Every stylist should teach us how to dry & style our hair! I can never come close to making my hair look as pretty as my stylist does.
This was by far THE most informative video I’ve ever watched about blow dry. Thank you!
I think about you EVERY time I blow dry haha...you’re a great teacher, Justin! Please address how to choose the right size round brush...thanks!
That’s awesome! Thank you so much. I’m really glad that I can help. It’s a great topic suggestion. I’ll have to throw that into an upcoming video.
It is not easy at all to do at home what the professional does in the salon. We could clearly see this.
Great video. Realistic. Please bring us more of this.
Thank you
What a terrific video Justin! Thank you! One question: when do you start using the round brush? When the hair is almost dry?😊
Thank you! Great question! Yes....when it’s almost dry is perfect!
Thank you. This is one of the most helpful videos I've ever watched!!! I can see all the things I do wrong. Thank you to your wife 😁
What a great video! I just bought one of these brushes and needed to learn how to use it. I like the way you had the actual client do her own hair, instead of you doing her hair.
I bought the Oliver round brush and love it. Learning these techniques will help me better with blow driving my hair.
Awesome! I’m so glad I could help. I love those brushes. Hands-down they are my favorite round brush without question.
So glad I found your channel. What a brilliant idea your wife had, clever woman! It’s going to help me so much.
I am so grateful for these tutorials. Question. I would like to see you how style the back of your head with the round brush.
LOVED this video Justin! I saw ALL the mistakes my stylist did yesterday to take away ALL of my volume. 🤨
Your instruction on waving with a straightening iron was helpful. Thanks!
You’re welcome! Glad I could help!
This was incredibly helpful!! Thank you so much for doing these videos.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that a ton. A always love when people share tips that are working for them.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! So many details alot of us may not have thought about on our own!
She looks great! Beautiful hair color, highlights and layering. I love the Olivia Garden round brushes. I now know how better to use them. Thanks for the tips.
Awesome! Thank you!! Olivia Gardens are the best right!!
@@justinhickox I have the Olivia Garden ion round brush. Is that a good brush to use?

Loving this series. I am growing my hair out and would love to see a tutorial on using thinning shears to thin my hair while at home.
Thank you! I’ll definitely consider throwing that into some future videos. I appreciate the feedback.
I love the tip about how to hold the brush and the way apply oil👍
Very good details. And using a real person doing this. Helped a lot and reasons why.
I’m so happy to have found your videos they are so helpful!now I understand what I have been doing wrong.
Wow...I've just come across this video by accident. You're a great teacher. I'm going to search out more if your videos...see if you can help me !
You are a really good teacher😊 great information! 👍
Thank you so much!!!
Yeah I always feel so awkward using my round brush my hair is a little longer than shoulder and this video will help me thanks.
Awesome! Nobody teaches you this stuff! So gratefull! Respect! ♥️🎯🙏🏻
Amazing guys very informative learned a few things 👏 👍 thank you so much 😊 ✌ ❤ & joy to one and all 💋 hi 👋 from Scotland blessings 🙏
Great great vídeo Justin!! Thanks so much for this info!!! Have a fantastic day and rest of the week 😉😎
Thank you!!! I’m so glad you liked it!!! Have a great week too!
Great video, covering techniques I’ve never seen before, from a fantastic, generous teacher. Thank you!
I love your wife’s hair!! Just stunning 💞. AND YOUR CHANNEL
Thank you so much!!!!!
Thanks again!
You’re so welcome! Thanks for the feedback. I’m super glad that these tips helped you.
Lucky lady, lucky guy. You two are delightful 🥂
Monika looking forward to meeting ya someday! Thank you!!! I’m pretty lucky for sure! :)
Thank You for all the helpful tips. I wish I could get you to cut my hair. When you get older and your hair thins out, it's nerve wrecking to get a haircut. I'm always afraid of getting a bad haircut.
Loved this video! Something I do at home is twist the brush as I blow dry and it helps create these soft curls.
I think this one of the most informative hair videos I have seen! Very helpful!I
Really!?! Thank you Cheryl! I really appreciate that a ton!
This video is so helpful! What are your thoughts on using a blower brush?
When I blow dry my hair and use a brush, i always finish it with a cool setting and this locks in the wave and smooths the hair
Absolutely. Thanks for sharing that tip. Totally helps smooth out the hair as well as lock in bend.
I stand up and bend over at the hips and blow dry with a large round brush. This straightens and adds volume at the scalp. No fatigue in my shoulders.
Thanks for your videos...question: I always get my brush tangled up with my hair, what am I doing wrong and how to avoid it?
Thank you so much for the video.
I found your channel and have learned so much about how to styling and blow dry my hair plus many others videos. I always have trouble trying to volume my crown, the right side does not look the same height as the left side. No matter how my hair cut in layers. My hair part to the right side and have swept side bang. Do you have any advice?
Absolutely love that L’Oréal commercial line.
Just found your videos, tremendously helpful tutorials. Will be getting the brush and products you use. Thank you!
Wonderful!! This is exactly what I needed!! I have no clue & now I do.
Thank you! If your hair is at your shoulders, a medium. If it’s longer, large or extra large. If it’s short, small.
Hello Justin! What a great idea about DIY ❤ Thank you for sharing your skills and tips. Channel is fantastic 👍 Your wife is absolute gorgeous 🌸
Wow 🤩 haven’t found such video with such great tips on any channel ♥️
Thank you! I truly appreciate that.
Great instruction. I'm going to watch the Dyson dryer review too.
Can you do a video of using a round brush/blow drying for a Bob style. I can never get it like the salon.
