  • Which is the best RTX 3090? Well I found out a lot of interesting and potentially problematic things with some of the models that reviewers don't seem to realize. In this video, I go into detail on everything you need to know about all the different RTX 3090 models that have been reviewed. From the PCB VRM components where I found some issues to the power limits and cooler efficiency.
    The models in this roundup:
    Nvidia Founder's Edition
    Asus Strix and TUF Gaming
    MSI Gaming X Trio
    Zotac Trinity
    Palit Gaming Pro OC
    Gigabyte Eagle OC and Gaming OC.

    Does the power limit graph mean that all these cards, except for the Gaming X Trio and the Strix, stress your PSU the same?
    I want to run a 3090 on my Seasonic 750w Platinum modular PSU. So I'm looking for a version that can be comfortably ran on that. And although the power consumption calculators say that I would be fine with all of 'em, I would appreciate your thoughts on it, also for the longevity of the system.
    I'm obviously not doing any overclocking ;)
    My setup:
    - Msi x570 unify
    - 3900X
    - Dark Rock Pro 4 cpu cooler

    3 x [m.2 NVME's PCIE gen4 ( Corsair MP600)]
    2 x [32gb ram 3200mhz]
    1 x [HDD @ 7200rpm]

    Just bought a Zotac on the basis a physical card is better than a non existent one! Since I don't intend to overclock, and the jump up from a 1080ti makes the slightly lower fps from the Zotac compared to other 3090s pretty much irrelevant, it'll keep me going for the next 5 years

    • @OTechnology

  • @gnrld
    @gnrld 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So if we're going to throw a waterblock on and undervolt, do most of these quantifiers matter? Seems like it's based on PCB/component quality which directly ties to OC and power limit, and then cooler efficiency. Basically if we're not OC'ing and replacing the cooler they're all practically the same?

    • @OTechnology
      @OTechnology  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're not overclocking the default power limit affects the performance they have. The cooler sure if you're putting a waterblock doesn't matter. The VRM current capability more shows how good a quality the PCB design is as manufacturers that cheap out will for sure put lower VRM capabilities which again mostly matters if you overclock and remove power limits with shunt mods.

    • @OTechnology
      @OTechnology  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep I'm especially disappointed in MSI though in their defense most people probably won't care about the VRM. The Strix is great but I wish they also used 70A power stages like the Founder's but its not a problem 1080A is plenty enough lol. I don't know about the inno3d but from my past experience using them they're gonna be along the lines of Zotac and Palit cards I think.

    • @CitizenTechTalk

      @@OTechnology yeah what was MSI thinking this time around? And oh ok nothing to get excited about then.
      And this is what I'm not getting too. Why no water cooled "halo cards" that take from all of the best of the best and make that exact card?
      The perfect best of the best of the best 3090 components?
      I'm very confused by this launch as its been quite half baked and continues to be moving forward. Why not 20gb cards or at least 16gb like AMD for the 3080 straight off the shelf to begin with?
      None of this is making any sense at all, especially AIB's aside from ASUS his time around too?
      I don't know, something isn't right. I can feel it in my gut. And the power table drivers "fix" (band aid) ontop.
      I honestly think the architecture is flawed, the caps just showed it and now most of the cards aren't going over 2ghz!? My Zotac AMP Extreme hits 2073mhz and my Zotac AMP Extreme 1080ti 2063hmz both at 53-55C MAX. The Trinity on the other hand, what the!?
      Somethings a miss and I'm sure it'll come to light early next year. I hope the 6900xt beats the RTX3090 even by 1fps on average as I'll feel safer in my purchase I think. I'f not I'll have to buy the RTX 3090 STRIX and pay the quality control tax as I'm an enthusiast overclocker myself and don't want to blow up my card 😂.

    Hey there very well structured video.
    I got a quick question.
    I ordered a complete build with custom watercooling for the gpu.
    They told me today they will use the palit card since its compatible with the cooling block.
    But after your video it also seems like the worst card compared to the others overclocking wise.
    Do I understand this right, that i will never be able to compete with the other cards, and i also cant apply better overclocking setting?
    Many thanks!

    I managed to get a Zotac 3090 for a really good price and it's not the best. But, it was a REALLY good price. The RAM pads and paste on the core are hampering the cooling a lot on this card. Power wasn't an issue at aony point for OC. I'm actually running it undervolted, re-padded and re-pasted and it's really good with easily doubling the performance of my 1080ti at similar or lower wattage.

      High end zotac cards always suffer from thermal issues. They are ok, but i just got the zotac 4090 and its basically the same thing.
      You better have some top notch air flow in your case, I also highly recommend undervolting it, you'll lose like 3 or 5% performance but it'll keep the card much cooler with little compromises. I deshrouded my 3090 when the warranty expired and just by changing pads and using quality paste, you can drop about 5 to 10 celcius. I still hate zotac for cheaping out on pads and paste. Overclocking is out of the question unless you are good at deshrouding or can do your own custom water blocking.
      Compare that to the Strix that has good thermals on stock values and can OC with little issues.

    I always went with asus strix.. but this time around OMG are those expensive, especially past week, I'm goin with MSI and trio X is pretty capable even overclocked a bit, runs cool (enough) and stable really.. only thing is with 4 gpus, something is happening with 3090 and pci lanes, seems like it requires more pci lanes for 100% efficiency in GPU rendering - in games and mining and everything else it performs great but with gpu rendering in octane and vray render I had to shuffle stuff around and disconnect 1 gpu from my rig..
    ..anyway, I've acciddentally became msi user, the motherboard which I could find last year - only msi godlike had 4 pci slots - so got that, and now MSI seems to be the most cost effective with a good quality I guess... btw been looking at a latest msi 3090 suprim - apparently best on the market? worth checking out..
