      Value was never really there with the 90 series cards, same as the Titans. They're halo cards for people who will pay whatever it costs to get the best. It's the 4080 that should be an improvement in price to performance over the 3080, and it most certainly isn't. That's why it's selling so poorly compared to everything else.

    • @RicochetForce
      @RicochetForce ปีที่แล้ว +87

      @@GuyFromJupiter Correct. The jump fro the 3080 to 4080 is something like 33% to 50%+ depending on the game, and even higher with Raytracing on. But Nvidia knows if the 4080 was priced at $800, they'd NEVER clear 3000 series stock. No one would buy the old shit when for a couple hundred more you're taking a generational leap at least.

    I game in 4K with my Gigabyte RTX4080 OC 16GB with ray tracing when available and have set the GPU to do no more than 60 FPS, as my 70 inch tv in 4k is only 60Hz/60FPS.
    I always get a smooth 60 FPS with all games, 1 frame may drop to 59FPS once in a blue moon, but otherwise it's great for me as I don't play fast FPS shooter games.
    Running the 4080 like I do, I'm lucky to hit 55 degrees on the GPU and CPU, and even with the graphics settings maxed out, I'm lucky to hit over 200watts unless I turn on Ray tracing too.
    I'm not even making this card break a sweat at all by stopping it from creating frames I will not use (GPU set to 60FPS max), and that's without frame gen and without FSR or DLSS.
    It's a great GPU I recon and I'm very happy with it.

    Another important point to touch on is energy efficiency (Flops/W), which is much better for the 4000 series, owing mainly to the physics of employing smaller transistors, and as such provides an argument in favour of the newer technology. Bear in mind that GPU performance is mostly limited by power draw and heat dissipation, so a higher efficiency translates to higher frame rates for similar consumption. However, they can also be configured to deliver similar performance for lower consumption, which makes the newer technology more attractive, even if its peak performance capabilities were overkill (especially in places where environmental awareness and/or electricity costs are a thing...).

I achieved similar results to your Cyberpunk 2077 performance on a 3090 FE with an older Skylake X OC'd CPU (20s, RT Ultra, DLSS off, 4K) and closer to 45-50 (playable enough for me) at 4K Ultra with RT Ultra, DLSS Auto.

Because right now 40 series cards come with a higher comparative failure risk than 30 series cards, due to the power connector failure rate on 40 series cards - and honestly alot of videos like this that fail to include that factor in their observations of 30 vs 40 series, are remiss in doing so. Sure, at 1440p it looks mediocre even at the Quality setting (depends on the game) but at 4K the Quality setting looks great. Change the DLSS version and you'll be amazed what difference another version can do (2.3.9 and 2.4.12 v2 are highly recommended).

      Nice. I have the XC3 Ultra variant of the 3080. Did you also notice crazy GPU temps? I was able to fix it via undervolting and, especially, getting a different case that better cooled the GPU. I read that a lot of people had that issue with that specific 3080. Very unprofessional of EVGA. They may have great customer support, but they've released some very questionable cards.
