- Cliffhanger follows Rocky Mountain Rescue Ranger Gabe Walker (Sylvester Stallone) as he tries to overcome his grief after he watches his friend fall to her death. The Cliffhanger opening scene is one of the most traumatic in movie history.
As fun as that sounds, it does get better as a group of international thieves hijack a Treasury Department plane transporting 100 million dollars. The crew is led by Eric Qualen who is played to smarmy British perfection by John Lithgow.

Yeah...it's sad that someone died....but it could've been avoided if they weren't trying to urinate in the face of death by needlessly climbing mountains...same thing with skydivers....it's hard to feel bad for someone that WILLINGLY jumps out of an airplane. Some of the dumbest villains I have ever seen in action movie 😂 We all know it's a Die Hard wannabe. But in Die Hard they made the bad guys look convincing, with a touch of humor throughout the movies at the perfect time. Here in Cliffhanger the bad guys already mess everything up, poor guys can't even get to one briefcase with money, that made me laugh through entire film. Like a Wile E. Coyote. At least Die Hard villains get to what they were looking for and their plan was working well till McClane showed up. Here you don't even need our movie hero, they lost the briefcases in the mountains and no one's picking them up cause it's too dangerous. Film over.
