Glad to see the socket set linked was a 6 point set. 12 point sockets continue to be sold but most of us know your primary sockets should be 6 point, they won't likely strip a hex head. We all need a deep set AND most of us need shallow/typical/short ones too! Thanks...

Been watching a lot of your videos lately, there's no doubt that you know your stuff when it comes to cars, subarus specifically, but from a content creator standpoint its very satisfying to see how enthusiastic you can be with certain topics and how well your body language matches your excitement, and that just makes your vids much more fun to watch in my opinion. Thought i'd share that.

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I love getting to be a little more creative with some of the videos, especially when it comes to some of the cinematic aspects of making the videos, I love talking about the cars and spreading the knowledge. There have been a few videos that I made that I never posted where I can tell that the energy is not there. The feedback is really appreciated and thank you so much for the support! 😁

Smeedia Your STI with the white work emotions is what inspired me to get white wheels on my wrx of the same color. looks just too good to not get them just because white wheels are hard to maintain. i think the maintenance is so worth the looks of that color scheme

Just catching up on your content, sorry to necropost a comment. But if you do an updated one of these, or anyone is watching it now, I'd highly recommend starting w/ 6 point sockets (I like to have both a short and a deep) but it'll save you a lot of headaches with rounding off bolts. Like you said, a 10/12/14 will take apart most of the car. 17/19 are definitely nice to haves. Also a 3/8 inch breaker bar and a length of black plumbing pipe to really get some leverage on those PITA bolts.

  • @newbeginnings8566

You need a T70 torx for the differential.. a 13mm pipe plug with socket fitting for the rear differential...
A set of hose clip pliers are very good - Knipex make the most useful but you need to budget $70 just for those..
You definitely need a good floor jack to lift the vehicle and four 2T or better jack stands.. A set of ramps is also useful..
A decent OBD scan tool and a multimeter are essential..
Although most people don't need Snap-On tools I wager that a budget of $100 for all the tools you mentioned is simply 'too' budget... I can't begin to imagine the fit or lasting quality of these items... A budget of $500 will get you so much better tools that could look last a lifetime...
Might seem a lot more but you will cover your costs on the first job where you do things yourself..

With the right tool for the job, never mind quality, DIY is possible. Without the right tool DIY is well at the very least problematic and at the worst impossible. No matter your tool set though for work under the car safe access is equally important. Any recommendations on ramps? For an obviously serious and committed DIY as you are I would have thought you would have a QuickJack or it would be on your list.

You don't need to have Snap-on tools to work on your own car. I do, but that's because I do collision repair. There is no shame in having Harbor Freight tools. Craftsman is a good brand, they are low cost and warrantied for life (I think). Instead of the flathead screw driver for prying, look up on Amazon '4140 pry tool'. I just recently got one and it is amazing!!!!! Great video!!

So maybe you have and I just missed it but now that you’re building engines, it would be cool to see a video on specific tools needed for that application. One thing I actually want to see more in-depth on is sizing bearings with a mic. I watched one of your older videos but maybe sense you’ve built a few by now it might be better translated. I’ve always seen the plasti gauge stuff which isn’t the route to go on these engines or any serious engine for that matter. I also have a machining background just no engine machining.

Have you ever seen another great Subaru content channel on YT called MrSubaru1387? I love his stuff! (OK, not as much as yours, but you know, love has no bounds and the human heart can do a lot of loving. Don't be jealous. Come on now...)
He is a Subaru mechanic and he does a lot of different videos on cars he works on. But lately he has been on a tool kick and he seems to like these ICON brand tools from Harbor Freight of all places. But he also likes these very cool, Japanese tool brands and those are not cheap.
I have a pretty big collection of tools that I've gathered over the years. I used to work at a British sports place and we had a SnapOn tool truck that visited every week. So naturally I ended up with a lot of SnapOn tools and a SnapOn tool box to hold it all. LOL
That being said, this was a long time ago that I bought that stuff. About 30 years ago to be precise. The point of this long story is that these tools are still working and in great condition. They are expensive to buy, but man are they good!

    • @Smeedia
