Hey people may be “bitching” that it ain’t a new episode and I get that, but i appreciate this directors cut with more detail and depth. The whole point is since I can’t enjoy doing this myself due to lack of money/space/time at least being able to watch someone else get to clearly just enjoy themselves. It’s not content for sake of content but content that you enjoy making. That’s the true purpose, what is art without soul? Thank you for some sort of episode at least help me pass time while I’m stuck in bed because of my back.
Perfectly said.
I've always thought that these episodes are way too short. They should cut less, or make directors cut episodes.

The flow in this video was amazing, i sat through the whole thing absolutely TRANSFIXED to the screen, I didn't notice how long the video was when i hit play and only noticed how long it was at about the hour mark. it was brilliant.
I will certainly be watching more of these director cuts in the future.

Drum brakes “annoying to work on” is the understatement of the century
Turns out for cars with regen braking that barely need to use the rear brakes they can actually last much longer so they're making a comeback.
Also if you're trying to revive something that sat for a long time drums tend to be more forgiving or easier to rejuvenate
Self adjusting, low maintenance drum brakes only exists in manufacturers brochures. I don't miss dealing with drum brakes, always a huge pain in backside.
90's cars with all the good stuff like ABS, stability management, self adjusting, self tightening and self cleaning were the worst; they eat brake shoes like candy, need monthly maintenance and randomly stop working for no reason (then start working when you open them)
I just did drum breaks on my corolla, and it absolutely SUCKED. It took me 2 hours just to get 1 drum off 💀
My dad taught me that's what pictures are for!
I have drum brakes on my 1981 vw.
They have only been serviced 4 times.
And have original drums.

I think it's almost exclusively the power that's holding it back from being able to beat the Type R, honestly. The main straight at Willow Springs is pretty long regardless of the layout you're running.
Yeah the bay looks like it has enough space for a turbo. That could change things
If they woulda turbo the original engine they would have 300hp easy.
I’ll never forget my buddy’s del sol 1.6 sohc that made 340whp with rods and a cam and a turbo and Hondata
For them to swap and keep it NA is dumb.
To spend $50,000 it should have 300hp at least!
@@fastinradfordableyou can always turbo the K series… gonna be upwards of 400 whp… also some aero work could help I’m thinking rear diffuser rear spoiler and front splitter would get the car glued to the ground and would definitely doable with just a CFD software
@@slavtrooper3851 They coulda turbo'd the car for cheaper than the cost of that ITB setup... You get a cheap China kit with a gt3076, you get 350whp with ease, and its rather reliable. If you spend the $80-100 to balance and reseal those Chinese turbo's, they will be solid and last a while.
@@JonHop1 yeah but they’ve done the series with quality parts so no use in using shit engine… all I say is, just forget the ITBs and do some aero, which is something the type R actually has instead of a useless subwoofer

don't do this. I woke up in a ditch 300 miles from home (my car is still in the garage. i was changing the oil)
Spent all that money to battle a 300hp turbo civic, with a 230hp NA civic.
Turbo k swap anyone? I'm sure a 400hp+ version would have had all the beans.
The strut brace. The strut brace by Kuzco, the brace specifically made to stabilize the civic made by Kuzco. The Kuzco brace. That brace?
Love it
Some people will bitch about anything. Anyone who knows a thing or two about mods knows that any non-standard bracing is likely made by cusco. They have 10 different types of bracing for the WRX that I can think of off the top of my head. I think they named it so many times because it wasn't your standard strut tower brace or flexible draw stiffener. This is like going on an LTT video and whining about how many times Linus mentions Nvidia.
I'm still wondering why they didn't turbo it
Right? They could have just put an e-bay turbo on and won... but i guess it would defeat the point of the entire video. :P
my guess is space and adding all that front end weight could worsen handling
My guess is it's because the k20 is such a high compression, high-rev engine, it's complicated to turbo efficiently without changing the internals.
na is fine for civic
@@brendensutton3201 There is plenty of room and the power gained far exceeds any weight gain issues.

Put a turbo on it instead of the ITB’s and it would beat the Type R.
Yeah ITB's are cool but no turbo was a weird choice. Just invest in something that is high quality but moderate, no boostedbois big turbo ebay stuff or crazy complex kits like they did in the 350z series. Should be just enough that would push it to Type R levels of power (350wheelish). Then focus mainly on an efficient and reliable cooling system and ditch big power numbers so it could take the track abuse for a few laps.
Easily would match type r or surpass it
If they did a K24 block with a K20 head it might have probably beat it.
@@spawn302 Good Point
@@justaguywithcrx Woulda been easier to just get a decent Chinese ebay kit with a gt3076 ball bearing turbo.. You get those kits for like $800.. Spend another $100 to have the turbo properly balanced and looked over, and you have an awesome budget turbo setup that makes 350whp with ease. No return needed.
@@JonHop1300 on a 3076 is LIGHT light work, too. They flow enough for 550-600ish on most 4 cylinders, and spool isn't bad. I really can't wrap my head around building a naturally aspirated Civic to go up against a Type R. They went to the effort to open the engine up and rebuild it, without boost? Granted my experience is all with 4G63s, but I've never bothered doing even a basic rebuild on an engine that's going to make less than 500 whp. Seems silly if it isn't blown up and you're not making any power anyway.
