- We take a deep dive into Tokido's legendary career in fighting games and "The Art of Cheapness". Known for his unapologetically effective strategies, Tokido has earned both criticism and admiration for his use of so-called "cheap" tactics to secure victories. From his early days of mastering Street Fighter II to becoming a multiple EVO champion, we will uncover how Tokido turned controversial tactics into an art form, dominating tournaments with his mastery of Akuma in the Street Fighter series.

Every time Akuma drops, I immediately think of Tokido and the hell he's about to unleash.
Now I just wait for him to drop Akuma 😂. I give him 2 years.
@@Meatwad787 boy that didn't last long....he already have drop it.
I don't follow SF much, but I don't think he's a super character loyalist. That being said, I hope he uses Akuma in SF6 and shows us why his fists know no equal.
@@Kusanagikaiser999 LOL...all the ken mains that were in that phenom video saying ken isn't THAT good and he's unstable, huh...they seem to all stayed with ken! How strange...
The matter of fact delivery of
"I have to take it seriously. Its my job!"
Is just so so so good
It makes me feel sad. Maybe I am lacking context, but it sounds like people are exaggerating things in a way he does not like.
I loved it. Like “Tf do y’all expect me to do?”
@@sigurdtheblue Is this a general statement or to ginkgo. Its a good comment on his way of thinking, one could think that since it's his job, you wouldn't blame him for his methods.
He's biggest achievement was defeating dsp and putting him in the legendary 4th place.
I never knew it was tokido who beat him lmaoooo
Nothing he could do dood
This guy didn't lose a single set in round robin? No wonder Justin Wong put him as his number 1 fighting game player of all time. Not just street fighter, but fighting game player of all time
I wouldn't say best fighting game player, more like best street fighter player. Across the most amount of fighting games, it's probably Justin Wong himself and he gaps everyone. He was just being humble.
He lost rounds. He didn't lose sets. Which is still awesome, but not special in a round Robin format in comparison to an evo winner who goes through in winners bracket the entire way.
@@Holyspecter dude you guys are so wrong, Sonicfox is way better with more 1st place wins than jwong and tokido
@@snakebebop tf, he plays nrs games 😂. mortal kombat doesn't even have japanese competitors
@@noble0155 because he scares them away, they know they can't compete against him
Fun joke is that Tokidos name is a reference to his cheapness in KOF with Iori lol
What does it mean?
@@sEaNoYeAh It comes from the last word of iori's 3 very effective move ,in fact not only Tokido ,but Daigo too back in the day had bad frame for they always using the top tier character
@@sEaNoYeAh
Tokido name comes from the first syllables of "tonde" (jump), "kikku" (kick), "doushita" (flame), Iori's most reliable setup at KOF '94 iirc.

Akuma had a lot of mix ups and crazy moves in sf4. The opponent had to guess a lot.
Sometimes it was worse than just guessing. A few characters (ibuki, akuma, and yun for example) had setups that were functionally unblockable. They could hit you at the very top center of your hurtbox, and because your hurtbox would change slightly depending on which side you were blocking, it didnt matter which side you chose, they would always hit the other side.

Everyone under this comment doxxing their time zone 👍
tokido is and has always been one of the best sf players to ever touch the game, his best year in sf5 was 2017 where he was beating literally everyone, and hopefully he can have another year like that in sf6
Tokido's just one of the best fighting game players ever. He's been a beast in tons of games, he's won majors and gotten Evo top 8s in practically every major game series.
@@AirLancer in terms of all roundedness I'd say jwong still beats him but he's specifically a beast at particular games
@@AirLanceryup I remember seeing him in evo top 8 for Tekken 6, Soul Calibur 5 and even Blazblue. He had some good marvel runs too
Unfortunately street fighter 5 sucked. Sf4 was a real fgc game
@@hands-ongaming7180 extremely unsubstantiated claim but I agree to an extent considering they threw all balancing out of the window to make money with Luke which i hate
I think my favorite tokido story is tokido vs daigo post evo 2017. and their eventual rematch where tokido got his payback.
how is it considered as exploiting meta if there are only 3 Akuma in Top 16 and he's the only Akuma in Top 8
just because the cursor is blinking doesn’t mean you need to comment. hope this helps

Tokido used to carry a frame data book for CvS2 at EVO lol

I watched through the whole video and i am left with just one burning question in my mind... How exactly did he exploit the Meta again?
By using what’s meta?
Clickbait to make people watch the video
you take a move that doesnt have counters and just use that, Like Vegas case. You-re basically a high level spammer
@@seddryx6477 what move doesn't have counters?
Great video Papa
That is actually how you play KOF. He has a KOF strategy.
I just always think of Metalocalypse when I hear “Murderface” lol
Met him irl several times tho, he’s a great guy
I was thinking that, too. XD Like how dare they, Tokido's way too handsome for that nickname!
I love these types of videos. I either learn so much about the fighting game players or about some of the greatest moments in fighting game history. Thank you for all the work you do Papalobster 🔥👍🏼
"Fighting games are something soo great."
another banger papa
"It's my job."
There's something so funny yet chilling about that. Yeah, he enjoys this, but at the end of the day, he'll be damned if he lets anyone take food off of his table for free.
Naturally. I think a big reason why he performs so well is cause he has exactly the kind of mindset one needs to excel in competitions like these. Playing for fun is great - when you're just streaming and goofing around online. If you come to EVO, you better come to freaking win.
12:11 he was almost defeated immediately after his victory.
I watched that tokido punk fight on live stream in China, it was awesome
the taunt combo is so poetic. Punk had t-bag and taunted opponents many times, tokido knew how to crack him
Another lobster banger!

I'm surprised you didn't mention his two FT10 matches against Daigo.

Tokiiiiiii DOOOOOOOO - great work papi
Glad your back take it easy Cuhzo ones a week upload Awsome
Good video, I suggest a little more audio balancing between clips and voiceover though, I had to turn audio up and down s few times heh
'Exploiting the meta" is a sus way to say "playing the game correctly "
Tokido was also the only other Japanese player to win a major MvC3 tournament due to understanding the meta early and made top 8 in KOF XIII EVO with DLC characters.
Amazing
Great little doc. Well done sir
I like how that’s considered cheap lol. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. I wonder what is ChrisG’s MorriDoomVergil Team in UMVC3 considered then? Just simple high execution?
He was actually really good at KOF XIII as well. His Chin was oppressive.
How is he exploiting anything if anyone can use the same character tokido uses?

Great video.
I don’t think he exploited the meta more than he defined it but i guess that’s a matter of perspective 💀
Ultra sf4 tokido akuma was a lot of footsies, Fuudo vs Tokido at canada cup 2015 was such a legendary set.
Making my opponent guess is also a huge part of my playstyle as well and my favorite characters to do it with are Sagat, Lei Wulong, and Shang Tsung.
Tokido please bring back Evo moments again with Akuma
The stare between him and mena is hard af

Wake up babe new PapaLobster video is up
That Johannes Bornlof though. Rise of the Phoenix raw.
That evo win against punk was insane
Damn RIP FChamp and Infiltration. 😅
nice vid
Tokido will always play akuma unless he becomes too hard to win with, in a game like sfv the balance was so over the place that you kind of had to go top tier as a pro. Hiom picking Luke is not something I enjoyed....but then again every pro player switcxhed to luke, he was just too strong
Blue lobster jumpscare
I met Takido in South Africa Kumite 🔥🇿🇦
Takedo is one of the all time greats of street fighter
Going up against punk twice, fchamp, and kazunoko is wild
Happy to see papalobster back! Like comment and subscribe fellas
Just out of curiosity how do people see punk nowadays? I remember he was America's sweetheart back on this Evo he got second place in but then it seems to me people started having a more negative opinion of him or something.
Legit asking, haven't followed the FGC in a minute
You might be misremembering because Punk was really controversial back then, some people loved him some people hated him.
He goofs around, had the funny hats and stuff, people didn't like that. To me it seemed people just didn't like the fact he out of nowhere started beating the greats they held on such a pedastal, and trash talking them.
I haven't followed him to closely over the last couple of years, but I don't believe he's done anything to outrageous or has a really negative rep per se
He has a lot of ego, and while his skill makes it not unjustified, a lot of people contrast that with how he ALWAYS chokes at the finish line.
He is good, but his mouth and his chronic inability to clinch wins kinda drags him down.,
Nothing has changed honestly. Extremely talented but a sore loser. He loses an important match and says that he is going to quit the game but returns like after 2 weeks.
It blows me away how good MenaRD is. He's the current SF god
People have to stop calling techniques dirty. If you got your ass folded up, you learn the rotation and punish. Sometimes, all it takes is a good eye and the ability to punish quickly then reset.
On the flip side, you have to accept that some things are genuinely cheap/dirty
In Dbfz, for example, you used to be able to do dp into assist. A character had an unreactable/invincible command grab that recovered faster than you could punish in most cases.
So yea. Having certain mix can also be seen as cheap depending on the game. Having a good eye doesnt matter if its a true 50/50 or 4-way mix. You literally have to guess and most times, being right doesnt get you out of that situation
@@Spawn3582 It doesn't get you out, but it gives you something to look out for, for future matches or matchups. You can't win em all. Cheap or not, you still have to find a way around it. As frustrating as it may be.
the irony of losing to the dirty bullhorn that was safe in grand finals vs mena was hilarious
We all know Tokido big moments. But a couple of years ago I seen ISDD first to 10, Tokido was Urien att and his fundamentals were what impressed me. There was a lot of 2-2 rounds but he'd always take last round and game and it was 10-1 Tokido but it looked like a 10-7, Guile Vs Urien it was a great set dispite the score. But also I've just started playing SF6 because I needed a Brook Adapter for my stick and it's a different Street fighter and I'm not sure I like it, I don't like you can't jump over your opponent in the corner, surely that has to be a first in SF. Anyway it's different for sure and I'm just trying to time these drive rush cancels or whatever, yknow the green glow dash, I don't really like that either. I think they should have put as much attention into a proper SF rather than change the game mechanics so much that I can't see the continuation from 3,4,5 to 6. Maybe it'll grow on me I'm not sure.
Tokido knocked out the 4th place American Champion in 07
I love when someone takes a “if the rules allow it” approach to competition.
Coming from combat sport, people hate foot stomping but it is legal and until it is made illegal then it is permissible even if dickish.
In juijitsu leg locking was frowned on and is now the biggest part of juijitsu competition. If the rules allow it then do not get mad at the competitors, change the rules.
Hey, are you Chumlee (pawn Star) brother ?
Used sim in alpha 3 as well
