This was a truly awesome watch; not only because of the sweet underdog story but also the way you edited and presented. You just gained a subscription.
Watching that story run back was absolutely insane. Even when a low tier is a low tier, vibing with a character's tech is a huge part of fighting games 💙
I’m of the opinion that the most important thing in ANY sidescrolling fighting game, is range management. If you control the distance between you and your enemy, you control the fight. Other characters I’m seeing here are clearly visible moving back and forth, but F.A.N.G.’s flowing clothes and weird movement patterns are making it hard for me to tell where he’s going, meaning that a decently-skilled player could probably lead me into missing many attacks. It doesn’t matter how close the enemy’s attack is to hitting, as long as it misses, and the closer you can make yourself look to being in their range, the more likely your opponent will misjudge the distance and try to attack, leaving themselves open.
No one knew how to fight FANG. No one played him. That was the character's greatest strength. That and how gimmicky the character is. Also, Street Fighter has the best commentators in the industry 👍 GG
The clip at 7:20 makes me want to delve into this eSports scene a lot more... fighting game commentators are just so hype and passionate about the game
the advantage of low tier mains is that others knows little about your inputs and even if they do they don't have time to refresh their memory coz they mostly encounter regular picks and meta characters as their matchup
Not to mention psychological warfare. When you're opponent sees that they're going up against a low tier character, they are subconciously more pressured to win due to the characters perceived weakness. This pressure then makes them more prone to mistakes and gets even worse as their opponent starts winning
@@66coldnight You have no idea just how bad it feels once you start losing against a character perceived as weaker, even more so if they win the first round.
2:16 I just wanna say this, the context on that clip is way different than what you think it is, he's not talking about the character on how strong he is, he's talking about his animations and how good they are
Fun fact 7:10 : that round at kumite when Bryan finished it with a cross dp winning the round and frowning immediately was because he was actually trying another imput. It just came out because the game saw it as a buffer. He admitted to it himself. He knew there was a good chance he would’ve lost that round because the cross up would’ve got him. Sometimes it happens so you obviously take it. But that goes to show how good Mono was.
What a great story. It's also testament to Capcom's decades of experience, programming fighting games that they balanced SF5 so well that low tiers can win if the player has enough skill.
In all honesty, no. It's not really balanced, if one unit takes a lot of skill to play yet have underwhelming or just a mediocore reward, compared to one where it takes just enough of skill and cam still do well. I don't play fighting games, but what you describe honestly is not balance.
I feel kinda bad for punk getting boo’d for 3 - 0 in the finals. The hardest choices require the strongest wills. You can see he wasn’t happy with his arms crossed at the end. Everyone else was excited to see mono up there.
Nah punk was playing low tiers until he started losing then he tried to stomp him out. I don't think he would've gotten booed if he either came into it seriously or stuck with his own low tier.
@@timmcgough7714 Yeah, pretty much. If he'd stuck with Vega as the duel of low tiers it'd be respectable. He can play how he wants, sure, but it's understandable that the crowd would turn against him.
I see it a bit differently. By switching to Karin, his top main, he formally acknowledged he can't dunk on Mono. Mono earned his respect and that meant no more holding back in any capacity. If Mono was gonna take the Championship, he was gonna have to beat Punk at his best. And beat Punk at his best he did.
Mono being an underdog did not justify the booing since Punk was another competitor who equally wanted to win. Unless it's blatantly toxic behaviors, competitors should not be vilified at this level of competition.
I love it when low-tier mains win. It's just not supposed to happen. My most favorite feeling watching E-sports. What an incredible final series! FANG's style looks to be about taking advantage of people who don't know how he plays, which is great if no one plays him.
Tqvm for making this video. Especially sharing stories within the FGC scenes! I loved that the story encourages players to never give up on your main, even if it's low tier, and with effort, even proved that it's all about the player, not the tier. Once again, tq so much!
Good, charismatic low-tiers with big personalities are needed for fighting games. There's always the need for underdogs, they're great narrative and their incredible stories that really elevate the sport to new levels. Good low-tiers also show how well balanced a game is too. Also that's the best way I've ever heard tier-lists being described. They're about how easy it is to win with that character.
That would be a bit much. General audiences wouldn't care to watch a movie about a guy playing to win Street Fighter e-sports tournament. A simple documentary like this, made by gamers for gamers, suits the story just fine.
I've basically not played a fighting game even remotely seriously since Street Fighter 2 on the SNES, but I was all in on this story. That's what great storytelling is, the ability to add enough context that anyone can understand what they're seeing while keeping the suspense and flow going. Great story, great pacing, great video, I really enjoyed it.
Great video, always love seeing more vids on the FGC! Also just goes to show that sometimes a character is seen as low tier because people might not look deeper into their kit, but Mono is definitely an incredible player who is pushing Fang farther than anyone else!
This is AMAZING. Didn't think I was gonna watch the whole thing. And then it ended before I knew it. Bringing a win not just for himself but for the island too.
As oldhead, who played streetfighter when streetfighter 2 hit every arcade in the world, I've always known that any character can dominate, if you spent the time to experiment, learn and practice. I'm glad someone proved this true
Also to keep in mind with low tier picks is that players won't have as much experience playing against them. Even though they aren't inherently strong, "lesser players", so to speak, may stumble and make mistakes against a character they don't play against nearly as often as top tier picks.
Yeah exactly, the real pro's do know how to deal with low tier characters... But at the end of the day it's not something they get to practice often.. So they flub a punish, or misjudge the range. Not because they don't know the opponent, but because they get rusty. And if a good player is controlling that low tier character.. They will take every little mistake they do and turn it into a win... That's the real show of skill.
I noticed Punk didn't really bother doging Fang's posion. I think he underestimated how much those scraps of health he was losing would matter when it came to the clutch.
I feel like it's been a long time since I saw a video on the FGC that didn't involve toxicity and sexual allegations. I'm not a big fan of fighting games in general but this was a terrific, inspiring video. Congrats to Mono!
Man you guys really be exaggerating the "LOW TIER" phrase in this game I feel like SFV has very little low tier characters and almost all of them are completely viable even fang
epitome of a true underdog story, work & skill winning over meta, dis just badass. Love it especially at da end when da announcers ate their words about dropping fang if Mono is ever to win any major tourneys, dat was just 👌💯
That made me remember Luffy back in SF4, who won EVO with Rose who was considered low tier, but was all mind-game with her ultra. Long live the low tier heroes out there !
Man this is like an anime episode. Main character loses on the final round, the crowd all starts backing him suddenly and he takes the win. Respect for sticking to the lowtiers
Thank you for covering one of my most favourite moments in SFV history! I've always been rooting for FANG to win a tournament and boy, was it spectacular when it actually happened. But - I have to say that while FANG is on a weaker side, he's definitely not bad. Even Punk said FANG is underrated. Bottom-10 - probably, but in a game so well-balanced even the worst character isn't bad per se. Just to put that into perspective. Of course, that doesn't take away from the amazing victory Mono was able to pull off. Every time you saw FANG in tournaments prior, he fell short just a little bit versus characters who were more stable, but that night Mono played exceptionally well.
People who play unusual characters (don't even need to be low tier) are awesome. Who can forget Xian's Gen, Gamerbee's Adon, Nemo's Rolento, Pepeday's El Fuerte...
He's living proof that you can play any character. It's just playing low tier characters makes it more difficult but not impossible. It just depends how good you are
People suck at fighting "bad characters". When a pro fights the least character picked in games, they won't know how to react when a Great player plays it.
This, 100%. And it's a shame it only works in that circumstance. For example you can bet that until CC was cancelled, people were definitely getting in some Fang practice.
Never seen any Street Fighter content and havent plahed since Street Fighter Turbo on my SNES and dont watch esports but was recommended this video and was enthralled from start to finish thabks for the video!! Whole other world !
The most important thing is what he was talking about. Players going against him don't know how they match up against a bad character because they overlook the character so much. But he knows how he matches up against every other character because it's expected to play any one of them.
This is how I feel with Hitomi in DOA 6. There is only one tournament Hitomi main that has won a tournament and it was a small tournament at that. I put a ton of time into her and you can win against some amazing players with Hitomi but your matchup knowledge and reads need to be pretty on point especially against some of the super good characters such as Kasumi, Eliot, Rig, Helena, etc. Its like that with every game its possible to win with any character if you put a ton of time into them and matchups. Usually tho it won't be easy and its annoying as hell losing to people you know are worse then you but their character carries them. She may not be the worst character in the game but definitely in the bottom 5 imo.
@@lom1991 Unfortunately. Her stun game is very bad especially compared to some of the other characters, her tools are very limited, she doesn't have any fast tracking moves and she is extremely predictable in most situations, you really need to master unpredictability with her more then almost any other character.
@@lom1991 Honoka is also low tier, Brad Wong has a crazy amount of tools but still low tier. Lord Xav1er is who im referring to. Hoodless barely plays Hitomi ever nowadays.
Esto me hace tan feliz ver a alguien de mi País ganando y representando 🇵🇷 Puerto Rico!! This makes me so happy seeing someone from my island representing in esports let’s go Puerto Rico!!
What I like about this guy, is that he doesn't follow tier list and try to play the game with skill only, but also using the character who work for him. And we see where that left him.
The feeling in your gut is that if I win with a low tier I'm the more skilled opponent. Another thing to consider in this equation is that Tier Lists are made by those willing to experiment with characters to bring out their fullest potential then gauge based off those results who should win. They are not set by those who follow the status quo but those who make it for themselves. In this way a low tier could simply be over looked due to lack of play simply based off known qualities in the meta of the game itself that it lacks and the effort % / win % *I got to put like 70% effort to win 40% of the time. What I think gets lost in the plot however isn't so much the skill of the low tier player because I think it comes from knowledge of match ups if you play a low tier character there are less data sets on you, you move in unfamiliar patterns etc.. many random factors play a part in your success. I think then the difficulty becomes how much less your opponent knows about you vs how much you know about the high tiers you'll be up against in that lens playing a low tier becomes easier because there's more information at your disposal.
yep, thats how Marth went from best in smash to top 5 in smash tier lists. People just played the game enough with other characters to bring out their potential to face marth.

This was a truly awesome watch; not only because of the sweet underdog story but also the way you edited and presented. You just gained a subscription.
Watching that story run back was absolutely insane. Even when a low tier is a low tier, vibing with a character's tech is a huge part of fighting games 💙
I'm not a fighting game player, but I teared up af with this vid. This guy ain't the real Low Tier God. He's the Low Tier Titan.
Remember, the F-tier is still a tier in the game.

Man, that low-key shoutout to Darth Super with Rambo at 1:30.
This is LTG's wishes to be.but instead of being what he claims to be, "a god of low tier" he instead became "a god of rage quitting" 😆
You just misunderstood. The low tier he referencing in the name is not the the characters he played but the player he is. It makes sense
@@wowwowwow597 or both
LTG losses to himself, he's overly self-centered.
Who?
You know I don’t actually think ltg cares, he’s not actually like this he plays a character
Now this is a true Low Tier God, not Dale or whatever his name is lmao, what a guy to do it with the worst in the game

I do not fear the man who has tried a thousand kicks once, but the man who has used one kick a thousand times
No one knew how to fight FANG. No one played him. That was the character's greatest strength. That and how gimmicky the character is. Also, Street Fighter has the best commentators in the industry 👍 GG
SO FREAKING TRUE BRO! I played F.A.N.G and man I was shocked how many matches I won against players. I also played against almost no one F.A.N.G
The clip at 7:20 makes me want to delve into this eSports scene a lot more... fighting game commentators are just so hype and passionate about the game
Come on in, the hype is fine!
the advantage of low tier mains is that others knows little about your inputs and even if they do they don't have time to refresh their memory coz they mostly encounter regular picks and meta characters as their matchup
Not to mention psychological warfare. When you're opponent sees that they're going up against a low tier character, they are subconciously more pressured to win due to the characters perceived weakness. This pressure then makes them more prone to mistakes and gets even worse as their opponent starts winning
@@isaaclee3271 well not exactly you don't need put that much effort in beating weaksauce
@@66coldnight You have no idea just how bad it feels once you start losing against a character perceived as weaker, even more so if they win the first round.
What a cool underdog story! This was like watching a movie... Great presentation of an awesome accomplishment. Props all around.
2:16 I just wanna say this, the context on that clip is way different than what you think it is, he's not talking about the character on how strong he is, he's talking about his animations and how good they are
Yeah, it really tells you just how technical he has to be to use this character well
Transition at 13:10 lmao what in the world was that? Went from G1 loss to matchup knowledge to ok it's over
I mained Fang since day 1 simply because he was one of the few charge characters at the time…psyched to see someone take him as far as they did
Fun fact 7:10 : that round at kumite when Bryan finished it with a cross dp winning the round and frowning immediately was because he was actually trying another imput.
That's most games, did you not see the "lose" category at the beginning? That shouldn't exist if it was actually decently balanced
@@austincramer8648 Tier list are subjective
Feels like being an mc character
It's genius if you think about it!
This man is the definition of sheer will, focus, and determination
I gotta see a whole $150M movie for this dude. You got the relatable characters, the motivation, the surreal experiences. This man lives the life.
That would be a bit much. General audiences wouldn't care to watch a movie about a guy playing to win Street Fighter e-sports tournament. A simple documentary like this, made by gamers for gamers, suits the story just fine.
@@opo3628 Did you actually just take this comment seriously? Reddit moment
@@delz5863 - Did you actually just make a completely inane comment? Reddit moment.
How does something like this make me feel alive. I guess we all love this kind of effort and victory against the odds. Great job Mono!
Fighting games is something so great.
This is almost the same story with the guy that using Panda as a main 👍. Really good story
This is AMAZING. Didn't think I was gonna watch the whole thing. And then it ended before I knew it. Bringing a win not just for himself but for the island too.
Thank god, some FGC content. Thanks Daniel.
We got you, pal
As oldhead, who played streetfighter when streetfighter 2 hit every arcade in the world, I've always known that any character can dominate, if you spent the time to experiment, learn and practice. I'm glad someone proved this true
I am honestly more impressed that this man found a way to sell a product called mono water
He really said "Mono put the Puerto Rican gaming scene on the map... BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY he showed that low tier characters don't suck"
😂
Unless you're Kirby from Melee then you're literally not getting a shot into any major

I feel like it's been a long time since I saw a video on the FGC that didn't involve toxicity and sexual allegations. I'm not a big fan of fighting games in general but this was a terrific, inspiring video. Congrats to Mono!
Wow I teared up when Mono said "it wasn't that small crowd in Puerto Rico anymore". What a beautiful triumph.
Punk gets mad respect for that. He was definitely just running into hits that last round
Great video as always!!
Man you guys really be exaggerating the "LOW TIER" phrase in this game I feel like SFV has very little low tier characters and almost all of them are completely viable even fang
It was really sick watching everything go down at CEO. Puerto Rico showed up in almost every game man. Gave me mad respect for their scene
I totally get the idea of playing a low tier character. I used to pick Dan in Street Fighter 2 Alpha/Zero back in the arcade and win a lot with him.
epitome of a true underdog story, work & skill winning over meta, dis just badass. Love it especially at da end when da announcers ate their words about dropping fang if Mono is ever to win any major tourneys, dat was just 👌💯
I haven't watched that tournament but jesus christ Mono's spacing is tight as fuck! Some of the best fundamentals I've ever seen in a game.

That made me remember Luffy back in SF4, who won EVO with Rose who was considered low tier, but was all mind-game with her ultra.
Long live the low tier heroes out there !
Rose was never low tier
Tbf bad is relative usually like bad characters in one game may not be seen as bad by another
People who play unusual characters (don't even need to be low tier) are awesome. Who can forget Xian's Gen, Gamerbee's Adon, Nemo's Rolento, Pepeday's El Fuerte...
thank you guys for more fgc/smash content, we love it
He's living proof that you can play any character. It's just playing low tier characters makes it more difficult but not impossible. It just depends how good you are
He had to be majorly skilled in blocking for sure. Awesome.
People suck at fighting "bad characters". When a pro fights the least character picked in games, they won't know how to react when a Great player plays it.
This, 100%. And it's a shame it only works in that circumstance. For example you can bet that until CC was cancelled, people were definitely getting in some Fang practice.
Case in point hakan
PANDA
I think the most emblematic event for this is Diaphone having to look up Goldlewis on Dustloop in Red Bull Kumite GF
Never seen any Street Fighter content and havent plahed since Street Fighter Turbo on my SNES and dont watch esports but was recommended this video and was enthralled from start to finish thabks for the video!! Whole other world !
I'm more of a shooter guy, but FGC videos graves me life. They're just, beautiful.
It's like the real life version of an anime tournament arc
The most important thing is what he was talking about. Players going against him don't know how they match up against a bad character because they overlook the character so much. But he knows how he matches up against every other character because it's expected to play any one of them.
Seeing Brian's accidental win @7:18 was so funny to me. He's definitely one of the best SFV content creators

I didnt know hitomi was that bad
@@lom1991 Unfortunately. Her stun game is very bad especially compared to some of the other characters, her tools are very limited, she doesn't have any fast tracking moves and she is extremely predictable in most situations, you really need to master unpredictability with her more then almost any other character.

Congrats guys, you deserve it!
A wise man once said 'There is no bad weapon, the effectiveness is in how you use it' or something along those lines
