Today we look at Apologyman and the team that almost broke the game. The Red Bull and CLG player got his start in Blazblue but transitioned to Marvel vs Capcom 3. He learned the power of Firebrand and decided to see how far he could take it. Using the Firebrand unblockable and Super Skrull he was looking to take down the the Marvel scene.

I remember seeing a video where Zak Bennett completely destroyed Apologyman with Firebrand, Doom, and Ammy. I wanna say after that, Apologyman decided he wanted to use Firebrand for sure

Actually, Apologyman wasn't the one who invented the tech. It'd be nice if you mentioned Zak Bennett, who used Firebrand with Amaterasu for the same effect.

Firebrand was one of the characters I played doing arcade mode casually in this game. Never really got good at this game, but it's sweet to see one of my favorite boys get to shine in the big leagues.
Learning his stuff in Infinite made me respect his addition even if he’s a swooping gremlin

Speaking of unblockables, I'd love to see a video about Angelic's Shuma-Gorath. The video was great, Apologyman deserves the highlight and Skrull is so damn cool.
I was really hoping to see a video about this team. I don't even watch mvc, but i remember hearing about, and watching this crazy team with the unblockable set up.
Except we didn't get to see it in action a lot in the video, not doing the trick it's supposed to at least. That was pretty disappointing tbh

Its always fun to see how ppl tackle the meta, I remember Spencer wasnt a top pick in vanilla mvc3 til someone rammed that BIONIC AAAAAAAAAARM into the most meta trio at the time

Superskrull was ApoligyMans best character won him so many matches. And also could’ve explained luminous body firebrand a lil more for the audience.
Anchor Skrull is such a derpy anchor. It never feels good to lose to an anchor skrull. Even the skrull players understand this lol.
His characters weren't considered low tier lol. There was a UK Firebrand character whose name slips me at the moment, but he used Firebrand, Doom and Amaterasu

Yeah! I played and traveled from 2012-2016 or so. A lot of it is remembering my favorite sets and then deep diving into teams to figure them out

...dude, he was a staple of UMVC3...the hype was real...just watching a Firebrand player was a privilege...to win with the best, like Magnus, Doom, or Phoenix is easy...to win with Firebrand, or even Skrull, is god-like...
I started watching Apologyman because I love Guilty Gear and I love seeing him play Faust. Seeing this video made me appreciate him even more. Cool!

Man I've always wondered if a team I theory crafted years ago would actually work. I called it team "standing lows" Viper/Morrigan/Skrull. You'd get the meter build with Morrigan's assist and you would also have Skrull's lockdown so that Viper could charge her EX and make it unblockable. I think the biggest downside would be the execution of Viper which can be prettty tough. EDIT: I'd love to see a video on TA Frutsy, that dude was the first MODOK player to put him on the map.
How to nerf apologyman: make him sit in the player 2 seat
I loved watching Apologyman during this time, I especially loved pointing out when he wore that one shirt at like almost every single tourney I thought that was the funniest thing ever. It was truly a different time

When I was a kid I used Spiderman Deadpool and Firebrand I thought he was the most broken charecter in the game! But when I became an adult I realized that wasn’t the case for most people. Glad Firebrand is getting some respect!

Firebrand is so godlike, yeah he got an unblockable but he also got easy push lock null, high lows, tick throws, like i think FChamp said, “He’s like Wolverine and Magneto combined.” Apologymans team is good but if I’m not mistaken actually isn’t a real 309% unlike Firebrand/Doom/Dante. Baba had it going but dropped it due to execution, imagine someone picking that team up.

Apology Man made Zero May Cry seem fair and entertaining. His gameplay was more "set-play" than Marlin Pie team. And I'm not saying that in a bad way, dude found really good tech and was godlike.
Fun story back in the day when he was only playing BlazBlue in SoCal at Super Arcade with us, the whole SoCal crew decided to go to Evo.
During his bracket in BlazBlue he got eliminated because he got diarrhea that morning and didn’t show up in time.
We called him Diarrhea Man for awhile in SoCal. Good times.
Can’t remember the year but Xie ran the BlazBlue tourney at Evo at the time.

I honestly liked his Frank West team a little better than his Firebrand team, but I can see why he switched. Those kidnap mixups were insane, and anchor Skrull was nothing to sneeze at either.
This wasn't apologyman's technic to begin with, theres a player who destroy him with the same setup, using amy and fir brand and doom. He just adapt it The video is on youtube

Honestly, i recognize him for being the pioneer of Skrull moreso than Firebrand.
I always didnt consider Firebrand to be a great character because hes reliant on a particular team structure to be good whereas characters like doom, magneto, wolverine, nova, spencer, zero, dante, phoenix, sentinel work well with so many characters and dont need a particular team structure to be successful.
This is exactly why Firebrand is not great. Unless you play Dorm, Dante, skrull or doom, you got nada going for you.
One of my fav players I tried this team but I couldn’t master FB but he is the reason I picked up a skrull

He straight smashed everyone with that team. The firebrand, frank and skull team. He said he changed teams due to the sheer hatred he received and he doesn't like ppl hating him. He's extremely nice and a gentleman to the T. Couldn't function the player base hating him. Otherwise he would've won multiple evos with that broken team
You stated that people considered some of his characters low tier but his worst character, Skrull, was considered mid.

He had a broken team of Firebrand, Skrull and Frank. Prolly have that order messed up. He felt like the scummiest player so he stopped and replaced frank with Doom so ppl wouldn't talk shit to him and make him feel like shit. Never understood it since everyone at the top outside of Jwong use the best characters in the game. It annoyed me he caved in like a wet napkin but I get it. Ppl would quit on him. Guaranteed lvl 5 frank when u got touched

I used to face this all the time when I was really into UMVC3, but only now am I learning how truly jank it can be with unblockable set ups.

Arcade stick or hitbox makes things a bit easier in my experience. The big thing obviously is practice. I own a hitbox and an arcade stick and obviously a controller. The hitbox felt like a cheat code when I bought it, until I realized that fat fingering buttons or buttons being too sensitive brought about their own problems.
