    Mister Mike,
    A veritable PLDTHERA of congratulatory wishes for just a super vlog! Wow; you pretty much covered all the bases possible except for enlisting Mrs. DP and Miss M., any dogs on the homestead or Mr. Jerry in the cab. To me the investigation you did and explained so well was just excellent, and showing just what a continuous BITE IN THE BUTT being the owner/operator of a small to medium business with machinery can be when stuff is down with problems hiding more problems and parts are days away.
    This should be a mandatory class for anyone In blind rapture of being a sole owner intent of surviving in the real world. Great work, great editing and a big thanks for taking time you didn't have while sweltering to content The dots and demonstrate that guys like you have Goya REALLY WANT TO, even on weekends and in crap weather. You rock.

  • @larrywalker7759
    @larrywalker7759 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    You guys handled that nicely. Only detailed thing I would have done differently is I would have coated the bushings with a smear of regular grease before driving them in. These bushings were thick walled enough (and steel) to stand up to the beating you gave them without distorting, but less robust (or bronze) bushings could have suffered some distortion. A little bit of lubrication before driving home is always a good thing.

    • @robroy5959

      I wonder if placing the bushings in the freezer overnight would make the insertion easier. I watched another TH-camr use liquid nitrogen to shrink some bushings for a D11 dozer to easily insert them.

    I would doubt any of the manufactures use stick anywhere, it's a production setting. The use of proper technique will yield as strong as or stronger welds with mig. They use a 71M outershield wire, not to be confused with intershield wire, but does produce a slag covering. Also the shielding gas is a 75/25 CO2/Argon or even a straight 100% CO2, the CO2 makes it dig deep. Get Arron a roll of the 71M wire to try, it goes down like butter, he'll love it. Nice fix, hope it holds up for you guys.

    • @jordandavid1671
      @jordandavid1671 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Look up dual shield welding wire. It gets you into spray transfer with conventional argon/CO2 gas. And can be welding in all positions except down. It's super fast travel speed and amazing penetration... If your wire welder can go up to 28 to 34 Volts you can hit about 350 amps. It's my favorite wire for anything 1/2-1 inch plate. Try it out and you'll become a believer in mig welding is better for everything when you're out of the wind. Good luck.

    AARON TOLD ME THAT YOU REALLY NEED A WELDING TABLE

  • @IndependenceIron
    @IndependenceIron 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great job guys. Those couplers/thumbs are a pain. Mine is a 1/4th the size of the 140 and still a PITA...Not doubting MBTS expertise but most factory welds are MIG. The real smooth ones are gonna be solid wire welded in the flat, and the stack of dimes are flux core for uphill or overhead welds. With the EPA and OSHA stick just off gasses too much to be used in large scale production environments anymore. Even the overseas suppliers have swapped to all MIG. Do agree stick can burn in deeper, and MIG is very fickle about joint prep.
    Also when welding a support like the square bar between two plates, especially full pen, the weld will shrink as it cools and will pull the plates together naturally, so you usually want to start a little wider than you want in the end and let the weld shrink it to its final dim. An 1/16th to and 1/8th or more is not uncommon to see depending on joint gap and depth.

  • @craigsowers8456
    @craigsowers8456 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    From the cheap seats in Aerospace Manufacturing ... in a "captive" situation, if you will put your bushings and pins in the freezer over night, you can slide them in with your thumbs ... with a bit of grease of course. And for extraction of the bushings, use your sawsall and cut half way thru the old bushings and take a chisel on the lip and they'll crack along the fault line nicely ... easy to pull or drive out. For next time.

    Mig welding can as strong as stick welding, it depends on the person running the welder and the preperation that went into the metal before the weld. Aaron is correct about them not beveling it and that's why it failed.

    All welding process are good, if done wrong it doesn't matter what brand or process.
    Heavy welding is easier with stick just due to electrode size, mig will weld same materials but preheating would be best practice.
    It's the reverse of welding sheet metal, stick welding under .5mm is about impossible but a breeze for mig.
    Like tools, it depends on the job.

      Correct! The difference is that you can shove a lot more energy through a 3/32 rod than .045 or .035 wire so at that point it all comes down to prep (way more for mig) and technique. Stick was the right choice for this in my opinion just do to the less than perfect conditions.
