Hey everyone! Thanks for all the great comments. Seems like a lot of folks disappointed no MLA in 83-inch. What if I said I don’t think the 83 needs it. Wanna know why? How about why MLA would do nothing at all for QD-OLED, that sound interesting? Sound off and let me know!

Great video guys! We just wanted to pop in to clarify that we haven't received the LG G3 we bought for testing yet, so it's not actually part of our Longevity Test. If there's enough interest though, we would definitely consider adding the G3 to the Longevity Test once we finish testing it and publish our review!

The G3 handles well against the S95C. Surprisingly so. All round the G3 came out throwing blows. Sony is now the dark horse. If they continue to focus on image accuracy rather than brightness then this year it will be pricing wars. All these tvs are amazing. Saw last year’s A95K and S95B at Best Buy also G2 and they are all close in my opinion. Granted can’t study them like you can Caleb but the differences between each as you pointed out isn’t night and day. I’m not a gamer at all but I’m leaning towards the 77” G3. Overall it has the goods.

Hoping once Sony gets off their rumps and releases their 2023 lineups you'll do a comparison between the X90L and the previous X90K as well as up against another brand's high end FALD (not mini LED) model. Sony seems very proud of their X90L this year and I'd like to see just how improved it really is

Don’t expect much from x90L as according to Sony it’s more or less last years x95k. New x95L will be the improved version of the latter - but improved at best and not a game changer. New OLEDs for sizes 77” and below are the best TV choice you can go for. Whether 8” is sufficient difference over 77” at worse PQ will be a question comparisons will answer.

Hello Caleb, thank you so much for the incredible amount of knowledge you have shared over time regarding different TV's and why we should or shouldn't by them. I truly appreciate what you do and I think you have one of the coolest jobs in the world! Since becoming a subscriber of your channel I have made a decision that I am going to purchase an LG C2 because of its features that matter to me most and because of budget. Before discovering your channel I had no real data to inform my TV purchases other than brand awareness. I purchased the Sony QD Oled A95K but ended up sending it back and kept my LG C9 Oled. The reason was due to the raised grey when my blinds were up and that time of day when sunlight hit it. That’s not the case with LG Oled and it surprised me with such an expensive TV. My take is until QD Oled solves that issue it’s a no go.

Hard fight both TVs are so close it's like identical twins, but it's a tough decision made easy (for me anyway). Without a second thought in an instant I would go with the LG period. Easy decision that's based on LGs features, reliability and track record for pushing out updates, even to this day they are still pushing out updates to some of their older but still good models. No contest here!

First of all, thank you for the great reviews I always watch - Caleb you are great to watch. For AVL, where I have seen the significant difference was playing madden on A LG C9 vs the samsung S95b. With the C9, after playing (and playing the whole time) - the C9 will dim and brighten the picture while within the game. On the Samsung s95b, it never dims while playing. I know the c9 is a few years old, but that is when ABL completely is annoying and way better for our use case.

I have the S95B and just got the G3. When I compared them in Hdr, I noticed that the S95b pushed highlight brightness more, especially colored highlights, but the G3 had much better high apl scene brightness. The G3 handles skin tones better and doesn't loose as much saturation in low light scenes, but the G3 also exhibits more low light artifacts, banding, flickering, and some areas can looked raised compared to the S95B. Now, with dynamic tone mapping the G3 is unbeatable, for demo content it's really unbelievable how bright this thing can get, I can't watch movies with those settings, but if I feel like wowing myself I set in my custom vivid mode, with Dtm on, dynamic contrast at medium, expression enhancer on detail, color 65 and warm 50. The s95b can't reach the heights this tv can get, but outside of these modes, the s95b looked better for most hdr content on the standard mode.
In Sdr the G3 is a much brighter tv, and funny enough samsung nerfed the sdr brightness in the fmm/movie modes, so I'm now using standard which gets much brighter. Standard mode on the S95b has a really cool version of contrast enhancer that gets rid of that lifted look when set to low. It basically deepens the shadows and tries to give a 3d effect, the G3 does have a settings like this, but you loose some color and blacks get crushed, so the best settings to use to mimic the samsung is to just lower the black level from 50 to 42. I know purists would probably scoff at that, but in sdr it leads to a much more consistent image, and avoids most problems you could have in dark sdr scenes, flicker, banding, etc. So by just lowering the black level, I was able to match the g3 to the s95b and also found that the color handling was much better and skin tones again looked great. On the processing side for sdr, I believe the Samsung is better at cleaning up unwanted artifacts, but I also noticed that it would almost completely remove film grain, if the source wasn't 4k, but in dark scenes the samsung is better at removing noise and banding. The G3 has many more options, but I found that the only one worth using was smooth gradation and I would honestly just max it out, if you mainly stream fhd content. Noise reduction did nothing for me and mpeg noise reduction would take away fine detail, even in 4k content. Sharpness I keep between 10-20. I'd say motion is equal on both tv's, I noticed almost the same amount of stutters, the G3 would have less new scene stutters, but would than stutter randomly in the middle of the scene, and samsung stutter at the beginning of every new panning scene, but is consistent after that.
Gaming, For HDR they're both great, you loose some color brightness on the G3, but you can easily switch to another mode and get it back. Highlights get brighter on the G3, but most scenes look a little darker, but there is more contrast and even a nicer 3 dimensionality to the G3. In Sdr the G3 is unnecessarily capped In its brightness and I needed to fix it, or I would've thrown it out lol. I had to download an app on my pc and connect it to the g3 to unlock the peak brightness setting, which is just so dumb on lg's part... After that it looks great and I really appreciate the accurate representation that lg gives even in game mode and again, you can use fmm mode to get the color brightness back. Imo, the g3 shouldn't be this finicky for gaming, the samsung does everything exactly as it should and the G3 should to. Both the S95B and G3 are great for Hdr gaming and I'd be happy with either, Sdr requires tweaks to the g3 for it to be viable, so I'd say it's worse for sdr gaming, but the option to fix it is there.

Here's two realistic scenarios I run into ABL on LG OLED: in Dune when Paul and his mother meet the Fremen at night, the scenes have similar colors and brightness so ABL kicks in making it near impossible to see.
Playing MMOs and scrolling through menus (e.x. managing inventory, looking at wardrobe etc.) Enough of the screen doesn't change so ABL kicks in and I have to wiggle a menu around to get the brightness back.

I feel like the giveaway for which is the qdled is looking at the blacks. The g3 has pure black, and little to no visible haloing, the qdleds have washed out dark grays and obvious haloing. After knowing what blacks look like on an oled, it's pretty easy to notice qdleds even without a separate point of reference.

Great video! Really valuable insight in this video, and I loved the approach you took. These two TV’s have polarized the AV space, and its fighting and bickering all day, everyday lol. I find it quite amusing tho, as someone who know how little difference there actually is in real world content….yet how BIG of a difference certain sides will claim. Good ole fanboyism at play…
So….can we ever get ASBL and ABL nomenclature right one day please lol?!? You called ASBL ABL in this video. Again….
I believe I was the one who sent you the specific examples of what causes ASBL dimming on LG OLED’s, way back in the day, when I was fighting it on a CX. It particularly happens in near dark, low stimulus scenes that have a constant APL, with little to no change, in HDR and DoVi. Not SDR.
I can provide you with a list of films/shows, and time stamps of movies which does cause this ASBL dimming (in the past at least). LG addressed this on the 3 series tho, when they removed the TPC option. Now what people are experiencing on the G3/C3 is the GSR dimming, which slowly dims static elements. TPC dims even moving objects, and was the root cause of the low light scenes dimming in the past. It’s why both TPC and GSR are disabled on my C2.
Btw, it’s kinda funny that the LG OLEDs are the TV’s that get more “poppy and vivid” (when using the modes like Cinema Home) LG’s really trying to reel in the Samsung fans lol. And I can’t lie…sometimes I do prefer that overbrightened image, and I do find the brighter modes on LG’s to make HDR a lot easier to watch in bright rooms. (Not intended) I mean…measure DoVi CH….that shit overtracks like 🦆…. But it’s definitely useful in certain scenarios. It will borderline blind you in a dark room too lol.
As far as having good low luminance color, where you said something to the effect it doesn’t matter…well there sir. I think even you have forgotten that HDR isn’t only about brightness, but maintaining better detail in near black/dark scenes, which include low luminance colors. I know everyone only cares about high luminance, high purity colors these days…but low level shouldn’t be ignored imo, as it is part of what makes HDR….HDR.

LGs ABL has been an issue for a while, I'm pretty sure the one of the recent updates for the C2 was for a ABL bug. I used an engineering remote to turn it off completely on my C1 and I find it really aggravating that doing so voided my warranty. I use my C1 as a monitor for my gaming PC and run dark mode in everything, including a fully modified windows 11, and the C1 ABL simply couldn't handle it. It would dim at times and never recover brightness, I was force to pull up a video or full color web page before the software would respond. I understand the reasoning for the function but, while I still used it, the implementation was overly active in dark scenes and started way to soon in other stationary bright scenes, so much so it interfered with use. I don't think users should be punished for needing to disable a software function, a warning that your display won't be covered by warranty for burn-in if you choose to disable this function would be more reasonable. I shouldn't need an engineering remote and a complete loss of warranty to have a normal user experience. The C1 is an awesome monitor otherwise, so much so its hard to imagine needing to upgrade unless voiding that warranty comes back to bite me.

To me at this point we have to ask which is most colour accurate though perhaps you don't care so much about colour accuracy and are happy to see a more vivid image. Aside from this, I would be looking at the practical aspects such as how well it performs for PC gaming, how many HDMI (Arc) connections does it have and how accessible are they? Does it have USB C? If so, are they powered and what charge? Are they easily accessible from the side of the tv? How nice is the operating system? What about the remote, is it illuminated? Whats the speaker sound quality like, can we connect a powered subwoofer. Lots of considerations outside of perceived image quality and price is always a factor. If the Samsung is $1,500 cheaper you could afford to add an SVS powered subwoofer...So many questions.
