I feel he goes deep into things that don't really matter to most people and brushes off things that do as unimportant. Like the pink tint uniformity issue and raised black levels in ambient light are presented as complete non issue but in reality the tint ranges from bad to awful on these panels and the contrast loss is enough to look worse than a good LCD in ambient light.
lol he played nothing down. He told you about pink tinging on his unit , he told you about black levels , he also told you the new screen coating reflects less bright reflections but does hold on to black as well as last years G2 which is like mirror lol
Great review as usual! Hats off to LG for a huge upgrade in performance. Also, hats off to Samsung Display for releasing QD-OLED. If they didn’t , we would still be getting the usual incremental upgrade from LG. Competition is great for the consumer.
yeah. but what should be there for comparision for that near perfect TV. I mean you can't compare it to the C2. Needs no competition anymore. New game with a new panel-type. but this one . . . this one will always look good in therm of an OLED
@@urkent4463 It still needs competition as it still lacks color reproduction with green tinted colors... And I'm not sure what were you talking about with the C2.
@Mike Miller: LG TVs have allowed for overscan to be disabled for standard-definition and high-definition video signals since 2020 models, as demonstrated in our video review of the LG CX: th-cam.com/video/NrRUTqfB_Ts/w-d-xo.htmlm20s

@@ArtVandelayOfficial Shit they better, all the bad reviews of the QD Sony OLEDs messing up is not a good look. I rather buy G3 than take a risk on the new QD and I have a A80. Just seems like the new Tech needs a little more time to smooth out.
Probably won't impact the C series much this year around, since the improvements are because of the MLA technology. LG will probably keep that exclusive to high end series a bit more time. But if it is easy to scale up manufacturing with MLA and LG can keep innovating new improvements it could happen within a few generations.
@Makoto nope, since power draw is less the burn in risk is theoretically better than G2 plus company itself is giving 5 yrs warranty which neither Sony or Samsung gives and you will see burn in on s95 series cause if you look at brightness charts , lgs older Oleds were brighter than newer ones from E series to C they nerfed it , so Lg learned their lesson . Hence go with Lg if you are worried about burn in
@@lipiningole1381 > power draw I'll just add one thing - I *think* the power draw was reduced, compared to the G2, *only* when brightness output was equalised between the two. If you actually take advantage of the extra brightness of the G3, power draw would be much closer or even identical, if I'm reading what Vincent said correctly.
Watching this after a year of owning my 65" C1. Could not be happier , definitely planning to stick with LG if I ever decide to upgrade. Very glad to see big improvements with the MLA technology.
Once again Vincent you provide the best most complete tv review on TH-cam. Giving you my ‘best in class, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED’ review award. LG is getting my money this year. 77” G3 will join 65” A80J to become our second OLED in our living space. Indeed LG may not win the shootout with QD-OLED but as an all-rounder the company has my vote. To simply catch up with and in some viewing scenes surpass last years QD-OLED is feat enough for me. And the $$ price is right as well. Well done LG.
It may have caught up with last year's QD-OLED in brightness measurements, but color saturation will remain inferior. WOLED is a severely limited tech that benefits from cheaper panels and scale, and MLA is just a way to get a bit more out of it.
@@Izquierda colour saturation is the just one of the metric it’s not the only thing that matters and that to when almost nothing on thr market can tap into full qd colour volume /
It’s a shame it doesn’t support BFI. The ~50% higher panel brightness would have done a lot to help mitigate the lower brightness of BFI. Oh well, as long as they bring it back by the time I want to upgrade from my CX… maybe they’ll even have a 240Hz mode by then.
I can't believe they just dumped 120hz BFI. I'll admit it's a somewhat niche feature but I love it on my CX. It's just mind boggling they couldn't keep it in or hide it behind some "advanced" menu or something like that. Side scrolling games are almost CRT clear on the CX with BFI enabled.
This is pretty stupid how hard we lucked out with that. It is so good no question the best looking unit ever. Bought this TV and still so happy with the 55 inch display. Use it in competitive first person shooter while keeping the brightness higher and wow does it ever look buttery. Hopefully they are able to push LG OLED into the 360hz / 500hz territory and chroma sub sampling ( as even that with BFI would require both a new HDMI standard new consoles and definately a new video card to hit 4k or soon to be the new standard 8k ) there is no possible resolution of us seeing RGB to this standard anytime soon, but would it ever put those monitors to shame and out of business
Your comments about how QD OLEDs exceed the reference benchmarks, is why you’re the best reviewer in the game. My money would go towards the G3 if the game mode brightness/color differences were updated
Vincent is BY FAR the best tv reviewer on TH-cam and it's not even close. Every other tv "reviewer" and I mean everyone is preschool in comparison. I can't wait for the s95c review even though I already bought it 😀
Yeah! No other channels TV reviews interest me. And it clear to me that it is because Vincents tests the TV. That gives so much more comparable data to the viewers than other reviews where they retell their impressions of using the TV. Cause impressions are so subjective it's of very little value to the viewer IMO. Vincent also knows so much extra stuff about TV tech. Keep going Vincent! Your testing and methods are superb!
The thoroughness of your TV reviews has yet to be matched on TH-cam. For the past several months, I've had my eyes on Sony's upcoming A95L for my living room TV, but damn, the G3 might swoop in and take the W. That color accuracy chart knocked my socks off. Sub-1.0 delta error at MOST? Shockingly good.
I would recommend Sony still because most of our viewing habits are in low bitrates from streaming services. The blocky videos is very noticeable on a 77incher.
GoogleTV vs WebOs is a big part of that consideration for me though and so the Sony will always be the tempting option. If it comes in at over a grand more than the G3 though I may well switch to LG this year.
As I’m very happy with my X95J , I thought I’d be firmly choosing the A95L with maybe a slight consideration of Panasonic . But now the LG G3 is also something I’m considering .. i thought choosing TVs was supposed to get easier 😂
Thank you. Following OLED for 4 years now, and i've always felt abled to make a well-informed decision from your reviews. This may be the year i finally actually add a TV to my apartment.
DTS support is back! Though I will wait for C4 next year, hopefully it has the MLA panel and heatsink the G3 has. 77 inch G3 is pretty expensive at the moment.
Calibrated my old C1 the other day to below 0.3dE average. Pretty happy with the TV for at least a few more generations. Hope they fix ABL auto dimming.
Thank you for the review. I'm very glad they have added back DTS decoding/pass-through as this was a major issue with my blu-rays and 4k discs. I cannot see a mention of whether they have finally addressed the lack of Wi-Fi 6 in the UK, or have implemented Gigabit Ethernet or USB 3.x (this is particular important when using the TV's built in apps).
@@PSYCHOV3N0M First, I don't think Vincent agrees: th-cam.com/video/PIef8iRZhLEh/w-d-xo.htmlttps://th-cam.com/video/PIef8iRZhLE/w-d-xo.html Secondly, 4k blu-rays are up to 128 Mbps... and if you are using the upcoming release of Kodi for webOS to playback from your NAS you will appreciate the extra speed..

@@JaviXCdr Unfortunately they are forcing people to use wifi rather than Ethernet for something as niche as Bravia core. The alternative is purchasing a USB to Ethernet dongle from Amazon that costs 14 bucks and will get you up to 300Mbps I think if the USB port is 2.0 and more if it's 3.0.
I have absolutely no intention of buying a new tv, and yet here I am completely fulfilled enjoying Vincent talk about the tv this masterpiece of a television! 😮💨🤣
Downside of MLA is that the MLA layer will actually have issues with light refraction through the layer, which gives a grey tint to the screen like with QD-OLED (but probably not as bad). So yeah, in rooms with lights on (even if they are dim) you won't get the perfect blacks anymore to the naked eye. If it's a hindrance or not, or if it's mild enough that peak brightness wins over perfect blacks; that's something for each individual to decide. For me it was already a thing I was expecting and after the prices for the 2023 series LG OLEDs were released I decided on the G2 as an upgrade for my B8. So far I do not regret it in the slightest.
Absolutely love my G2. There’s something about those glossy blacks and it sits in the middle of my living room in front of 6 large windows… the reason I chose an Oled is for the blacks otherwise it would look like a boring LCD. I still have a need for a gaming tv and the g3 is at the top. Will look further into this lifted black issue
@JBlakeS23 the G2 will be my last TV for a while now. Been through a few the past few years including Sony, LG and Vizio and will take an LG any day. How much better can a picture get? Seriously
@@JBlakeS23 German TH-camr @TecTracksHD did an item on it just 2 days ago. I don't know if he runs subs, but you should be able to follow along and watch the G2 and G3 compared to each other.
@@livejames9374 It's their way of saying "you won't use TV this way so you won't get burnin this fast". But in reality, their test results is probably similar to someone using a TV heavily for many years, which is still a concern for most people as they don't buy a new TV every few years and will want to keep their old TV for as long as possible, even if for a 2nd TV in a different room. Having the peace of mind is still extremely important.
I rarely see many benefits in upgrading my TV while the old one is still totally fine but the G3 just made me upgrade from my C9. For one reason I wanted to switch to a bigger TV due to more space now compared to the time I bought the C9 (upgrading from C9 55“ to G3 77“). Still have to wait a week for delivery but I‘m already really excited how much of a difference this upgrade will be.
@@lfsky after a few days with the G3, I have to say it’s much better in every point except the Start page UI and the remote - these two are better on the C9 for me. But I’m glad that I upgraded. :)
... a bunch of THX for this thorough test, Vincent, you do rock ...! Next step, Panasonic's MZ2000 (or 1500 if same panel) with same MLA panel, and Sony's A95L with 2nd generation QD-oled panel...! This year's shoot out is going to be super tricky ...!!!
Hi, Vincent. Did you ever thought about doing Q&A videos? I have a theorical question for you: Do you think MLA can improve the image quality in other types of screen too? Like QD-Oled and QLed?
Hi Rhuann, hope you don’t mind a passive response. I’m no Vincent (not even close) but if you’re interested in other TH-camrs in the tv space, another one called “Stop the Fomo” had an engineer from Samsung Display on his channel recently and asked him a plethora of questions. One of them was “can MLA technology, also benefit QD-OLED?” The engineer’s answer was that it was ultimately, not necessary for QD-OLED due to QD-OLED being a “top emissive display technology” versus traditional WOLED technology that is “back emissive” I recommend hearing him explain it, I’m not smart enough to explain the distinction…but many people have had this same question for the industry (for good reason!) and I happen to hear this answer from someone pretty qualified. Let me know if you want me to link the video!
A friend of mine has one of those badass Samsun OLEDs. The image looks great but the poor soul had been watching it with the Soap Opera effect. I did my part and introduced him to filmmaker mode. I learned about that from your videos. 😂 Thanks man.
The raised blacks due to light may not be a concern for others but it is for me. It would be better than an ips probably but why am I getting an oled if it looks like a va panel if the room is not completely dark? On my C2 the blacks are perfect all the time. Just feels like a step backwards. We already lost BFI at 120hz from the C1 to the C2 and now this.
Thanks for your excellent evaluation of the G3. The introduction of MicroLens Array technology definitely places the G3 at a prime spot on my wish list. Before I decide to make any purchase I'll be waiting to see the discounts on 2023 TVs during Black Friday sales this November and December. All the flagship models from major manufacturers will have been released and fully reviewed by that time. I can practice a little patience if it means that I'll have a broader range of choices as well as lower prices that will offer me a good bang-for-the-buck deal.
13:36 "No BFI" What does pixel aperture ratio have to do with BFI? OLED inherently can do BFI at any frequecy, I'm surprised all OLED makers don't automatically have 1ms BFI by default in all modes just to provide some amount of frame separation. At the brightness of the G3 there is no question I would gladly sacrifice 10% brightness for enhanced motion clarity.
I want to know this too. I would never buy a TV that doesn't support 120hz BFI. Luckily my X95K support both 100hz and 120hz BFI. But if I were to eventually go to an OLED this is a super important feature as once you've tried it with a capable RTX 4090 it's no going back.
@@MistyKathrine I have the C1 but I almost never use BFI because it's not compatible with VRR, we need BFI to be a universal toggle that works with all modes.
It would be wonderful if you could compare the upscaler of the current Oled Tvs with the older models. I have for example a C9 77". It would be very interesting how much of a difference the newer alpha 9 processors make. (Maybe they make even SD content watchable 🙉)
I'm gonna keep my C1 for as long as possible. Best tv I've ever bought and it was only 700$ brand new right before they launched the C2. Can't even look at an LCD panel anymore.
CX user here, surprised they still don't have 120hz BFI, albiet the gap to having this over the obvious improvement is getting harder to justify. Sooner or later the negatives will outweigh the positives, but those older sets are still nice. Would be good with getting any of those for a decent price. Good thing about LG is the yield finally payed off to consumers. Wonder if they'll eventually scrap the white pixel altogether and how that would look to the layout itself. Can't say in the biggest fan of how it is assembled, but to say it doesn't look anything short of amazing would be lying
So, what reasons would I have to upgrade from my OLED55B7A to the current model, or even to the CX? Keep in mind that the B7 is _more_ than bright enough for my purposes.
120hz? Couldn't imagine playing without that especially now, and the new AI GEN 3 processing capability onward is so unbelievably good especially now. This isn't a question if you're looking to do serious next generation content. The newest set of 2020 onward sync with both console device and the latest graphics cards to push high bandwidth of fidelity. On this alone, they're aren't really close. C9 is probably the oldest I'd justify, but at this point there is guaranteed slight burn in on those, and it really just doesn't stack up to the design of the CX or especially C1 / C2 / now C3 or S90C or any of the latest revision of Panasonic / Sony, even the VA offshoot or Mini-Led will undoubtedly surpass it based on scientific principle and capabilities, sorry
@@lfsky You know that image retention (AKA "burn-in") is a result of usage practices --- that it's not at all automatic? I have over 10,000 hours on my OLED55B7A used as a PC monitor with literally _zero_ image retention. When I first got it, I had noticeable retention after only ~100 hours. I got rid of my desktop icons, changed the background from black to 50% white (i.e. grey), and most importantly reduced my OLED Light setting to '10'. After that, the image retention eventually disappeared. Keep in mind that I use my OLED in a theatre-dark environment. Anyone who buys an OLED and uses it in a lighted environment is wasting his money, as he can't even perceive the benefits of OLED. But again, I'm asking because it seems like the only thing people are interested in is brightness, when brightness is not even close to the main problem unless a person is foolishly trying to watch movies or play video games in a lighted environment. That kind of person should be buying an LCD. Anyone who is serious about image quality and/or immersion does his viewing in a theatre-dark environment.
The fact that they created a brighter display that doesn't support BFI @120 fps is such a bone headed mistake. BFI is the best way to improve motion clarity and is necessary for a next gen gaming experience. Leaving it out means that the CX and the C1 still offer the best experience for next gen gaming and at a much better value. Go figure!
Just bought yesterday... after almost 4 years of Sony XH90 it's like night and day difference I already love it, I think that especially for a gamer is like the saint grail, everything is supported and to all 4 HDMIs. Anyway, Vincent thank you so much for sharing your inexhaustible knowledge with us and for your passion and dedication to this topic! I learned many things thanks to you!
Just moving on from an xh90 myself..never had oled, because of burn in potential. . Any issues or niggles to report after leaving Sony processing behind??
Hello, LG has 10 years of OLED know how and G3's panel has 5 years warranty because all functions included in OLED CARE menu really help to reduce burn in risk. Sony XH90 was a really good tv but mine has several flaws; black spot caused by dust infiltration, motherboard has replaced twice due tv self restart issue and poor gaming features. Despite all these flaws I really loved pictures quality of XH90 but LG G3 is on another planet
@TheDrake871 Many thanks for info! LG G3 looks tempting.. Interesting - My xh90 restarts almost every time my (nvidia 3080ti) pc shuts down? Figured it was a hdmi sync / vrr bug or something, but apart from that gaming & streaming have been good too. 👍
Given what happened with HDMI 2.1 48Gbps (present on the C9, ditched on CX and C1 where it was limited to 40Gbps, and back on the C2) and DTS (present on C9, ditched on CX,C1 and C2, back on C3) i think BFI 120hz could be back in the future. It was the most useful feature introduced in 2021.
My son managed to smash my 77CX with his Harry Potter wand. Got the 77G3 on order. Would you mind posting a video update when the calibration software gets tweaked to support DV Game mode and the general fixes you mentioned LG were working on? It would be nice not to have to calibrated twice :-)
@HDTVTEST Vincent, seeing this comparison, I can't help but wonder what is your initial impression of the S90C? It seems crazy to me that it is priced similarly to the C series LG oleds, and yet can go over 1000 nits and looks great even next to HX310 and G3.
@Brokenwrench I saw it and I would still buy qd-oled. I rarely watch tv channels, the content I watch is varied. CNN 10 hours a day - cmon. Check the update on that test from yesterday - they reported that all oleds are now showing signs of burn in. And just fyi - I currently own LG CX and I'm looking for a big HDR upgrade.
I agree how are we going to judge qd oled color when it exceeds the benchmarks we are used to? I think it just shows us things we haven't seen before and that's not a bad thing. But we still have certain people pulling back its benefits Judy trying to get it to not have its advantages and try getting it to look like a wrgb oled even in the areas where it's benefits should be seen! That's not fair or right imo. Just because we seent used to it doesn't mean it's bad. I like that you actually showed the reds still and didn't just take them away or undersaturate them just for a comparison. I've been seeing some others do that when comparing with wrgb oled and imo itsnot right. We should be accepting of the new color volume and realize soon enough those will be accepted and it's something we can finally see instead of taking it away. To most consumers they will enjoy fhat extra color volume and I'm almost positive it's got just enough extra to now matching the professional monitors instead of being slightly under.
Just recieved C3 today. There is no big upgrade like the new MLA panel, but I’m really content with the comeback of the DTS support. A small nitpick for the new magic remote is that play/pause buttons are now gone, being a nuisance while watching TH-cam.
Ooh wow. If i may ask does the TV support DTS through the TV's internal speakers? There was some information about the TV being able to support the codec only via audio passthrough to an external soundbar. Plz reply.
@@lextr3110 not really, the "enter" button already does this, having play/pause is redundant because no streaming service differentiates play/pause from enter (at least nothing that I've used)
Vincent putting together another fantastically, detailed and concise review; no one else on TH-cam comes close. Soon as I heard MLA was being moved from the Z series to the G series I know the G3 would be a beast. I’m getting a 77” and this is definitely at the top my list, along with Sony A95L, Samsung is a none starter for me.
Thank you for the wonderful review. Looks like they made some massive image quality improvements in all areas this year. My last two TV's have been LG OLEDs and it looks like I will be sticking with them. Hopefully I can hold out for the the LG G4 :)
@@geoffreybassett6741 Oh, O.K. I was hoping that you might have experienced the improvements from the B7 series through the latest models. It's very frustrating that post-CRT technology is still riddled with compromises, and back-and-forth on certain capabilities from version to version.
Great content as always! Would love to see a 77in vs 83in G3 comparison at some point. Rather not wait another year for an 83in with MLA, so would love to know how close they are.
I really hope LG will make 42" and 48" PC monitors with these panels soon. I'm thinking about trying a C2, or something like a 48GQ900-B, but if there are new OLED's coming soon, maybe I should wait? I currently have a 38" ultrawide IPS panel.
the c3 isnt much of anything vs the C2. so i would do what i did... got myself a c2 42in. they are 900 brand new cause they are trying to clear inventory.
My guess is that the MLA panel will be on the C4 or C5. Usually need wait an extra generation or two for the new features on the G series to make their way to the C series.
@@BrotherO4 I am nearsighted and struggle with font size even on my 38" ultrawide. I'm tempted to try a 48 OLED", but then people are also saying that OLED is not the best for text due to the pixel layout. I don't play games, nor do I run anything full-screen. I just want to be able to have 2 or 3 apps open and still have them big enough to see clearly. Contrast and color accuracy are also important. The backlight bleed on my IPS monitor bugs me sometimes.
@@Maxxarcade LG C and G series OLEDs are fine for text clarity. On my C1 text is perfect. There is actually a setting in the TV called "sharpness" that can affect text clarity, for PC use set it to 10 and text will look perfect. I have the 55'' and only thought it was "too big" for a day. I have really bad myopia so I really like the larger screen since I can read most text with scaling at the default 100%.
I'll admit that I'm not glad that I ended up turning off ABL on my 65" C1, but frankly, I had to do it. We kept running into issues with games with a dark palette being rendered nearly unplayable when the screen would dim because it just didn't pick up on enough movement. Sometimes, you could try to fix it by opening a brighter game element (menu, etc.), but that didn't always work. Awkwardly, and maybe this is due to SDR vs HDR, I haven't really had an issue on my 42" C2 that I use as a computer monitor as I've left ABL turned on, or maybe the C2 just isn't so aggressive about it compared to its predecessor.
@Evernote: Unlikely. It's just not important enough in an already niche use-case for manufacturers to spend time and money developing solutions to fix it.
Thank you SO much for taking the time to get back to me Vincent. You’re an absolute legend. Though I do wish you’d have said yes. As an owner of a LG CX OLED which I use as a monitor the VRR flicker/gamma shift gave me buyers remorse as I appear to be quite sensitive to it. Great review! Did you notice any lifted blacks in a bright room due to MLA? I have discovered that this bothers me a lot, got a Samsung S95C and will be returning it because I cannot stand how so much shadow detail is wiped out by the lifted blacks in ambient light.
@@LayerZlayer2000 not sure you understand the question. QD-OLEDs also have perfect blacks... in a dark room. When light shines on the panel, even indirectly, the panel itself looks grey. That's the lifted black phenomenon, where the panel itself is lighter than a lot of the shadow detail it is producing, so you can't see that detail. This isn't a problem on regular WOLEDs but it might be a problem on MLA WOLED panels given the extra light the MLA lets through: maybe it's easier for light in the room to get to the panel and back out again. Some places have reported that it _is_ a problem.
I currently have a S95B QD-OLED, second one, first one got stuck in a boot loop and that was that. I wonder how G3 stacks up against S95B in terms of peak brightness for both HDR and SDR, but also colours. The colours are amazing on the S95B.
@@hastensavoir7782 Because I don't trust Samsung. They install firmware updates even if you disable automatic firmware updates. With each new firmware they've messed some things up, the peak brightness especially in game mode got downgraded badly. So I can't have my TV connected to the Internet. Never had such issues with my C9. It's gonna depend on how long this new set lasts, but I can see my next TV definitely being LG again. I went for the S95B because of the beautiful colors and very impressive peak brightness for both HDR and SDR, but if LG comes close to that now......it will absolutely depend on price too. I won't go spend 3000 on a G3, or more.
Any QD-OLED panel will beat G3 in terms of colors and uniformity. LG WOLED is held back by the white subpixel and RGB subpixels shine very dim in comparison to QD-OLED which has no white subpixel. If you go from QD-OLED to WOLED at this point, you will wonder where your colors went, just look up flatpanels review. They mention this.
@@Dr.WhetFarts yeah I ended up with a Sony A95K. Traded in the S95B. I am super happy. Very true about uniformity and colors, it's fantastic on the Sony too.

Great review of a great tv. Can’t wait to see it in the stores, hopefully correctly set up. I loved the HTVtest shootout in 2019, hope that formula can be revived this year!
That loose of color luminance in game mode probably makes me go with the S95C. A separate toggle within Game mode where at least some of the visual processing features are active would be awesome. So you can choose. For most gamers some added input lag is irrelevant.

@Mirco Meser Yes, considering the original FW tracked perfectly in hgig from what i understand, it's the latest update that has broken it. Again, it's from what i am hearing, i own S95B, so I can't say for defo, Samsung really needs to get the department who pushes FW's out under control. Customers are getting fed up with it. Yeah, this man I trust to a degree I do not even look to others, a pro through and through, unbiased and with a great sense of dry humor, love it.

This seems like a way bigger year over year upgrade than I was expecting. Wonder if this will scale down at all to the C series.
LG defeated qd-oled with G3 no iff or butt.
It may have caught up with last year's QD-OLED in brightness measurements, but color saturation will remain inferior. WOLED is a severely limited tech that benefits from cheaper panels and scale, and MLA is just a way to get a bit more out of it.

Love your G3 review and so very happy that everything you said perfectly matches our findings! 👍👍
Yeah, but you're a retailer and we all prefer and independent review to get our facts.

Currently own the G2 and love it. I can only imagine what the G3 looks like in person.

Hi, Vincent.
Did you ever thought about doing Q&A videos?
I have a theorical question for you:
Do you think MLA can improve the image quality in other types of screen too?

13:36 "No BFI"
What does pixel aperture ratio have to do with BFI?
OLED inherently can do BFI at any frequecy, I'm surprised all OLED makers don't automatically have 1ms BFI by default in all modes just to provide some amount of frame separation.
At the brightness of the G3 there is no question I would gladly sacrifice 10% brightness for enhanced motion clarity.
I want to know this too. I would never buy a TV that doesn't support 120hz BFI. Luckily my X95K support both 100hz and 120hz BFI. But if I were to eventually go to an OLED this is a super important feature as once you've tried it with a capable RTX 4090 it's no going back.

heh same,im still on c8.i upgrade when there come 240 hz oleds.
@@lfsky Corporations really have you people by the balls.
The fact that they created a brighter display that doesn't support BFI @120 fps is such a bone headed mistake. BFI is the best way to improve motion clarity and is necessary for a next gen gaming experience. Still celebrating my C1 and so happy with it even in SDR with my PC it's amazing.

Ooh wow. If i may ask does the TV support DTS through the TV's internal speakers? There was some information about the TV being able to support the codec only via audio passthrough to an external soundbar. Plz reply.
Haha no play/pause button.. haha they are crazy
@@lextr3110 not really, the "enter" button already does this, having play/pause is redundant because no streaming service differentiates play/pause from enter (at least nothing that I've used)
@@Chris-xz1ii "if I may ask"
You know you're not asking for their home address, date of birth, etc right?
having the c1 i'm used to not having a play/pause button
Vincent putting together another fantastically, detailed and concise review; no one else on TH-cam comes close. Soon as I heard MLA was being moved from the Z series to the G series I know the G3 would be a beast. I’m getting a 77” and this is definitely at the top my list, along with Sony A95L, Samsung is a none starter for me.
QD-OLED A95L for me!
Your reviews are invaluable, thank you!!
Been eagerly awaiting this review. 😍
Thank you for the wonderful review. Looks like they made some massive image quality improvements in all areas this year. My last two TV's have been LG OLEDs and it looks like I will be sticking with them. Hopefully I can hold out for the the LG G4 :)
Have you ever used a B7 series display?
@@bricaaron3978 No, I have a LG C9 and LG G2
@@geoffreybassett6741 Oh, O.K. I was hoping that you might have experienced the improvements from the B7 series through the latest models.
It's very frustrating that post-CRT technology is still riddled with compromises, and back-and-forth on certain capabilities from version to version.
G4 if doesn't have QD OLED it be same G3
Thanks for also testing DTS, seems that LG came back to their senses!!!
You should comment on accuracy of game optimizer mode for us who prefer that for games too. It is always awful compared to other more accurate modes.
Solid video bro. Pragmatic, engaged and honest.
I love Vince’s flashlight!!
So does LG next year try QD oleds? What you think or do they just stay with the MLA
LG G4 better MLA can't save WOLED
Very nice 👍🏼
Looking forward to getting an LG G3 to replace my oldest OLED, a 65” C9, which has been an excellent TV these past 3+ years.
I am doing the same thing - 65C9 to 77G3 - c9 was great
If your TV still works there's no reason to upgrade. Next year a better TV will come out and this one will be cheaper.
I would wait 1 more year to see what qd oled can do
Same here dude , running a 65" C9. Hoping to go 77" g3
Now we replace TV's like phones .
Love this review. Can't afford this TV but love the review. Great job. Now I'll look for your C3 review
So far you are selling me on getting a G3 this year.
Great content as always! Would love to see a 77in vs 83in G3 comparison at some point. Rather not wait another year for an 83in with MLA, so would love to know how close they are.
yoi cant show 500 lumen diff via yt. just like you cant show what extra 6" means.
Dude I love my C2. Definitely can't go wrong with it!
If it doesn't add too much input lag, I would like the option to turn on the color boosting in game mode.
But I'm sure it's about burn in to.
Impressive. LG was already my fav brand, despite not owning it atm, and this makes it even stronger.
LG's software and remote are so bad though. It's actually worth the extra cash for Sony for instant brightness control.
@@jon4715 stop trolling here's
@@stanko4922 Not trolling. I own an A95K and a C2. The ease of use with the Sony is remarkably better.

I totally agree with your explanation regarding the award!!! If it is the best tv up to date it should get it ;) good job !!! And thank you!!!
Did they not fix that recently?
@@jstarproductions7335 I haven't heard one way or the other. I'm not sure if LG makes patch notes available, but I do keep the C1 up to date.
@@shinaikouka ok thank you, I can get a 55 inch c1 with a 5 year warranty in the UK for £799, would you say that's worth?

I've rarely enjoyed a video as greatly in which there was so much I didn't understand. Thanks!
Great review as always, Vincent!
Do you think it’ll ever be possible to fully resolve the VRR gamma shift issue on OLED panels?
@Evernote: Unlikely. It's just not important enough in an already niche use-case for manufacturers to spend time and money developing solutions to fix it.
Thank you SO much for taking the time to get back to me Vincent. You’re an absolute legend.
Though I do wish you’d have said yes. As an owner of a LG CX OLED which I use as a monitor the VRR flicker/gamma shift gave me buyers remorse as I appear to be quite sensitive to it. Fine tuning the dark areas has no to little effect either which is a real shame.
Would a Micro-LED display exhibit less noticeable flicker I wonder..?
@@hdtvtest what is the setting for Oled Pixel Brightness?
I have the G3 at home and at the moment I have it set to 80 which is way too bright.
Please give me the correct settings
I have a question for Vincent. I have an lg c2 and I really have a hard time dealing with the HGIG dimming. I calibrated my ps5 with DTM on and I turned the black stabilizer down on the tv to 8 and white Stabilizer to 11. It looks better with no black crush and doesn’t look as over brightened. My question is, does that make the image anymore accurate?
@hdtvtest thank's for your amazing work. I bought 77" Lg G3 and I'm waiting to receive it on next wednesday, but I'm concerned about brightness and colours saturation in Game mode. When will you be able to review the Samsung S95C as well, so we can have a direct comparison above the two tvs?
Thank you so much.
Disappointing that this amazing tech wont be in the C3 line of the LG OLEDS for 2023
Yea, I would for sure got the C3. I have heard almost 0 hype for it. So getting a C277, and will check back next year or year after.
@@Trace153 There's not much hype because people know what to expect at this point. It's basically a C2 with a somewhat better processor. With all this new tech coming out at the flagship end, no one is as excited for the normal stuff. Realistically though, the C3 will still be one of the most popular TVs of 2023.
MLA has same problem as heatsink It does not come down in price, like electronics does!
So no these is C line ever.
Vincent, so far most of the comparisons have been between the MLA equipped G3 models vs the G2. I am curious to know how the new 83 inch non-MLA equipped G3 will compare to the smaller MLA equipped G3 variants and especially the 83 inch G2.
D-Nice has done a test and states the 83G3 is not significantly better than the 83G2. Surprising
I’m curious as to why the G3 83” isn’t MLA and if there is any benefit over the G2 83”.
Can you review 77s90c? Is it same panel as s95c?
+1. It would be really good to know how 77 inch s90c and s95c compares.
Great review. I am wondering if you have further information regarding the service screen settings and how colorists that are not connected can use this monitor for grading.
OMG i literally just got a 65 inch C2 in the sales and now this is EVEN BETTER ;_;
C series never was high-end.
Great job on this review, Vincent! As usual!!!
Very nice to see competition heating up. The G3 looks very nice even in a youtube video. Not gonna lie I want to have it, although my BX is still more than good enough for me. It is absoloutely crazy to see the brightness almost tripled in a few years and LGs software + gaming features are still market leading. Holy shit this TV is the next evolution of Oled.
700 to 1400 is triple??
@@nattila7713 Ok, double. But some models back then did not even have 700 nits, but 500 to 600 like my BX.

Great reviews as usual. Glad to see LG still kicking ass.. I'm looking forward to replacing my LG 65" B7. Too bad the MLA is only in G3 as I can't justify the price of 77-83" and G3 quality.. Could pickup a 2022 model later I guess too.
MLA is not in 83" so just go for the 77" if you want that big display

120hz BFI with finally enough brightness would have been a strong upgrade incentive. On CX it's just too dark.
I have an LG CX. Would it be worth upgrading to the G3?
G4 this year
I’m coming from a c9 Also, I was really gonna buy this but I realize I love my picture so much and will be sitting so close that I don’t need a brighter tv, just bigger so I just pulled the trigger on a b2 (found a 77 inch for 1500) and will just be happy with the larger size
Really loved the review....With the color desaturation in game optomizer is it best to just not use game optomizer and just hard clip the console at 1500 nits to preserve the full color? Or Is it noticeable if you playin game optomizer? I play cod every now and then but I value picture over low latency. They should provide a toggle between low latency and picture quality with that
Thats why qd oled is superior as you get the black levels and the colour in game mode
Amazing work as always.
Thanks as always for your hard and honest work Vincent. Looking like LG is really pushing for the gold standard of tv brands. Quality , gaming and pricing.
Would love to see a head-to-head comparison between LG G3 and Philips 908! I think this is the most important comparison for many viewers this year.
Fantastic information. I was waiting to see this before making my choice in buying last years a95k 65 inch or the g3 65. I think for the cost of both, a discounted a95k seems to be a better decision. Thanks again, and keep up the good work! (Also, great plug for Richer Sounds - a great company that I’ve used many times over the years)
I was waiting for this one!!! Thank you!!!
Does peak brightness matter if you never have the TV at full brightness? If I watch in a darker room anyways, why would I care about peak nits.
Yes, especially for HDR.
@@Arthzul cause even if my brightness is around 65, the panel will still use the full range for HDR if needed? Thought so but never bothered to look into it.
@@brandonklemets2958 in HDR on LG oled the settings Oled Pixel brightness and Contrast should be maxed out in HDR.
Basically HDR keeps bright spots bright and dark is dark without washing out the entire picture which SDR does.
Im sure someone here can delve deeper into the technicals.
Check out his other video from 2years ago about peak brightness th-cam.com/video/XPzM3NDGuSc/w-d-xo.html
Most movies are mastered with 1,000 nit ... to not have tone mapping involved you need the capability of at least these 1,000 nit from your tv !
Btw ... HDR is NOT brighter than SDR ... in most cases it's darker !
Although HDR is in it's 7th year, many people seem to be still stuck in SDR times ... thinking HDR does brighter pictures.
It's all about the contrast RANGE which is mastered between 0 and 1,000 nit (SDR: 0 to 100 nit) ... these 1,000 nit you will only see with few small specular highlights ... the majority of the movie in avg. is darker than the SDR version and the SDR settings used most...
Great review! Did you notice any lifted blacks in a bright room due to MLA? I have discovered that this bothers me a lot, got a Samsung S95C and will be returning it because I cannot stand how so much shadow detail is wiped out by the lifted blacks in ambient light.
There are no lifted blacks it's perfect black you only can turn on or off the pixels... It's perfect don't worry
I hope they bring out 32 inch oled monitor
I currently have a S95B QD-OLED, second one, first one got stuck in a boot loop and that was that. I wonder how G3 stacks up against S95B in terms of peak brightness for both HDR and SDR, but also colours. The colours are amazing on the S95B.
Why, are you planning on getting another tv?
I have the LG CX and use it only for HDR gaming/films (no tv). This is seriously making me considering upgrading. My CX is still perfect with no issues though so I’ll wait till the price drops but man this looks so good.
Nah bruh. S95c has broken hgig
@@helloguy8934 its overtracking the eotf by 300 nits or so. Nothing dramatic or what gamma cant fix. But yeah i am worried about samsungs firmware mess.
This G3 is defo impressive, when the price drops i will defo have a look, far too expensive for me at the mo.
@@mnormansell1984 Love my s95b, been PC gaming with it regularly with a 144hz custom resolution, but damn Samsung really has shitty software controls. Their software is freaking miserable. Seems like their burn in prevention is also sub-par. I have no reason to upgrade at this point, unless they come out with a TV that offers BFI @ 120/144z and has enough luminescence to drive it.
@Ty Yeah, I'm very happy with my S95B, i will keep it a while. Couldn't agree more about the software. So far my panel is still very clean, same as dsy i got it, will see over time how it gets on. I only game in Ps4/Series X and Films but i dont do any heavy sessions, maybe 2 hours at most, 3 at a push.
