We were wrong about Dolby Vision and the PS5. All of the "Perfect for PS5" branding is about auto-applying HDR settings but not Dolby Vision specifically, and the articles popping up a few months ago about Sony secretly enabling it weren't quite right. Thanks Jon Porty.

IMAGINE if TV remotes had instead of dedicated "netflix" or whatever buttons you instead had like 4 customizable shortcuts. They could either launch apps on the TV, or perform a multistep action such as changing input and adjusting the sound/screen settings when you want to switch over from watching a movie to playing a game. I can't think of a single time I've used the button outside of looking at the remote and wondering to myself "why don't I use these".

I realized how shit my old LCD TV screen really is and then i started comparing smartphone screens since i have an LCD 1080p smartphone, one with LCD IPS HD+, one with LCD IPS HD+ and HDR, an OLED HD+ with HDR.
What i concluded is that although my old LCD TV couldn't come close to my IPS HD+ HDR screen my IPS HD+ smartphone wasn't really that much away when i turn the brightness to full. The OLED HD+ HDR was a further step ahead but not a crazy difference though.

I don't know if their current batch of OLED panels will feature this same setup option, but my absolute favorite feature of the Sony panels I've helped configure in the past is the ability during setup to just configure them as dumb panels. I don't generally use the smart functionality of televisions because I have mine connected to a PC, so I thoroughly appreciate them providing that option. Also, unlike Samsung, they don't try to spam you with ads. Basically the only place that even remotely seems like it contains ads is just the recommended viewing section that uses your viewing history to try to recommend you content they think you'll like. And that's already something built into Android TV anyway, so I don't think it is nearly as offensive as what Samsung has done with their stuff. Maybe Samsung will change their ways, but I distrust them too much already to spend thousands of dollars on a television from them and just hope they won't try to spam me with ads.

Why they can't have all of them is also always my question. I mean I can understand that low end TVs don't implement DV, it won't give them much anyway, but HDR10+ is only 10.000$ a year (or free if you don't need their Logo and certification) there's absolutely no reason, why basically anything that has HDR10 wouldn't have HDR10+, you don't even need extra hardware, you only need a bit of firmware (if you sell 1.000.000/year devices and then the 10.000$/year isn't basically any money, compared to DVs 1$/device).

I do feel that watching reviews after reviews of the newest TVs from this channel, it gets lost on me just how much better it is. I still get amazed by my LG from like 4 years ago, and I feel like we reached a point where I'm sure there are improvements, but they are getting less and less noticeable to an untrained consumer eye. Like smartphone cameras, as long as the sw has no issues, I don't notice a real improvement. Maybe I'm just dull about this stuff.

Seeing in person will always kill compared to seeing it on a screen

I'm still using my 46" samsung from about 12 years ago. Maybe I should upgrade...

This one sounds like a noticeable jump to most reviewers I've seen.

No surprise there I bought my now old Sony X900F(US), XF9005(EU) backlit zones LED TV back in 2018, but I still love it even though of obvious reasons it is never going to be as good as OLED when it comes to blacks, I still have a huge problem seeing it worth upgrading to an OLED. The typical smoothness, the processing and the colours are still great. And Samsung still do what they did at that time I bought it - Black crush.. On TV's Sony is still king, and they've been for quite a while.

For the first time I’ve noticed, a tv you’ve reviewed is cheaper here in Denmark than shown in the video. Usually tv’s in Denmark(all of EU?) gets marked up compared to US/CA. It’s about 600$ cheaper here though

I didn't know what was wrong with the colours in this video, Linus face seemed unnatural and a few other things were too yellow or too grey. I'm watching it on a 4K SDR display by Samsung and I guess TH-cam's HDR to SDR conversion is not really good.

Yeah, conversion has a weird green tint to it on my dumb screen

Y'all were mocking Bravia Core but it is actually amazing! It's unfortunately limited to a selection of their Bravia TVs and I believe their latest Xperia phone and is the *_only_* place you can get the IMAX Enhanced versions of their movies (such as all the different Spider-Man movies) and is the best streaming service for the movies that _are_ on there because of their "Pure Stream" technology (high bitrate content)
I would love to have access to it as I really want the IMAX Enchanced versions of the MCU Spider-Man movies 🥺
