  • FOLLOW ALONG AS WE FINALIZE OUR BACKYARD MAKEOVER! A FEW MONTHS AGO, WE DECIDED TO TRANSFORM OUR PATIO SLAB INTO A WELCOMING, MODERN AREA ON A BUDGET.
    IN THIS VIDEO, YOU WILL SEE HOW WE INSTALLED A METAL CORRUGATED ROOF TO OUR DIY MODERN ATTACHED PERGOLA. THIS WAS EXTREMELY EASY AND DIY FRIENDLY TO INSTALL AND IT GAVE OUR PERGOLA AN INDUSTRIAL LOOK THAT IT WAS MISSING. THIS PERGOLA WAS INITIALLY INSPIRED BY THE TOJA GRID KITS BUT THIS DESIGN EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS!

    This looks so good! We just bought a house and are wanting to do a covered wrap-around just like this (except around the whole house). Our new house is out in the country so our outside area is just as important as the inside to us. We're on a little over an acre and surrounded by farms and cows and horses. We close on the house next week!! Our first home purchase!! In TX.

    I put standing seam on my pergola too, it was less expensive than the clear plastic panels. BUT, I put sheets of coroplast under them to give a small thermal break. Insulation sheets are ugly and will weather over time but the plastic will hold up. And there’s very little feeling of heat radiating down.

    • @TheHandyCreators
      @TheHandyCreators  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was wondering about the roof and the heat also! So glad it's ok.... my aunt lived in Florida for over 40 years, anytime we would visit.. and I still think this.... how does anybody live in Florida! LOL It's SOOOOO hot! I live in Ohio, it does get humid and muggy in the summer, but nothing like Florida! I hope someday my husband and I will become snowbirds and come to Florida over winter, when it's bearable to be there. ;O)

    • @TheHandyCreators
      @TheHandyCreators  ปีที่แล้ว

      😂😂😂 yes, Florida is an oven which never turns off! Oh we have laughed so much with your comment. The heat here is unbearable. We usually take a few weeks after winter to adapt to being outside in the summer. It was 91 today, hot and very very humid! Little by little we are drying over here 😂😂

    I love your metal roof and also your rain chain! You may find that having the roof over the pergola helps keep the whole back of your house cooler, because it keeps most of the sun off that back wall. We finally gave up on trying to have a porch with a pergola at the back of our house, and just built a sun room, but it helps keep the rooms on the other side of the wall cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. I hope you love your new addition as much as we love ours!

      Although this can vary depending on the size of your project, the panels that we installed on the pergola cost around 800-1000 dollars. Building the actual pergola cost another 1,200 and we have a step by step video on how we did that

    I never really cared for pergolas cause it doesn’t provide much cover for the elements and the stuff they have to cover isn’t very well made materials unless it’s a roof. I prefer a gazebo but as far as the back patio design of this I think the metal roof panels are best. I never was a fan of metal roofs but it’s grown on me and never say never. Metal roofing lasts much longer and when it’s time to get new roofing at least you can scrap the metal unlike roofing shingles.

    • @TheHandyCreators
      @TheHandyCreators  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good thing there are many options of roofing out there for every persons needs. We thought the shades were the best fit for us, but not since we have the metal roof we couldn’t imagine it any other way. Our does not get hot whatsoever. Maybe it has to do with the height of it also. We are truly happy with the overeat look and feel for this area.

    Sorry, I love DIY folks but you guys did not do the correct research before starting. You can’t be disappointed if you jump into something without knowing consequences. It looks very neat but I know you struggled in order to avoid demo-ing, you improvised. But you followed through. Amen for that! Great ending, from a fellow DIY l.

    • @TheHandyCreators
      @TheHandyCreators  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No matter how much research a person does, there is still room for error. The goal of a DIYer is to figure it out. Of course we did not demo the area because we had some hiccups, why would we destroy an area and thousands of dollars when there are other solutions? Yes, we figured it out, because that’s what we do. Not only did we do our research, we ordered various options and reached out to the vendor. We would always recommend to any of our viewers to “figure it out/improvise” if something does not come out as they planned or expected. We get through the obstacles, not let them defeat us. Thanks for your feedback and we wish you great success on your projects!
