Tip for working at low heights for an extended period: use a platform. You can use more than one, or use some boards to extend between two. Massive reduction in going up and down. Your knees will thank you by louvre 3.

Extending the patio makes it aesthetically seamless with the house, like it was meant to be there. As always, an attention to detail with no corners being cut, a great job! Just as admirable is doing the whole job by yourself, when 1 or 2 extra pairs of hands would've made life much easier!

I really enjoy all of your vids Stuart, but this one was most enjoyable. Its great how you really think outside the box so to speak to achieve your goal, like the extra slabbing stones and attaching the pergola to the house. It looks great too.

Came across this video by accident but what a find. Very clear, well thought through. I have a similar 3x3 pergola & put it together single handed too, had similar approach to you but some of your gadgets would have made it easier for me. I’ve not committed to bolting mine down yet but strongly recommend, these aluminium frames are so light, mine is currently held down by piles of block paving on each leg (not the best look) and I’ve never noticed before how often we have such strong winds. Plan to bolt down like yours but I would also recommend attaching to the house like you did (not possible for my situation), in high winds there is a fair bit of flex (and creaking) on the corner joints. Really useful video for anyone considering similar.

Good addition to the property. Great vid as always. Particularly so, as you’ve answered exactly the very question I had in mind on how to secure pergola posts effectively to concrete patio for the pergola I am about to assemble. Marvellous timing.

That suits the house really well and it's a good price too. I erected a wooden 3x3m Gazeebo a couple of years ago and it cost £1500 and a lot more work. The only thing that would stop me fitting one like that would be the racket when it rains, Like a tin roof and the worry of the mechanism failing due to water ingress over time.

Excellent as always Stuart , I feel your pain as I’m a tradesman and always work alone which can be a lot harder with many jobs 👍 I used your method to revitalise my lawn, cut, scarify, re-seed and a layer of multi purpose compost the day after I saw your video. My lawn already looks far better than it has for five years, thank you. Also ridiculous as it sounds I’d already planned to build a modern pagoda ( though from scratch with timber ) I love how you put in the extra effort to improve the products you use and your forward thinking. Thank you Stuart, love your channel’s 👍👍

For anyone reading this, remember to check local codes before you do something similar. In some areas, as soon as a "building" is technically "attached" to the house, it may suddenly require a building permit from the city.

I once was employed by a shop that sold these. We would repeated tell customers they must be secured down very well and that we would not replace any pergola that was damaged from wind. Invariably, once or twice a season someone would show up with a pile of wreckage looking for a refund. Customers would buy them for a party, throw them together and put them in their garden, and forget about them until they flew into their neighbor's window.

You might need to insulate the aluminum and galvanized bracket so so don’t get galvanic corrosion especially in high humidity. Also in England do you guys ever use some sort of flashing or waterproofing between the wood connectors and your home? Water would seem to get behind that wood and cause damage. Loved the video and I thought the pergola with opening Louvers was really neat!!

I’ve been hoping you’d do a pergola build for ages Stuart. It fits so well with the house, it looks like it’s always been there.
As others have said, you always do a great job of solving problems which is very helpful to see as when I’ve completed a TH-cam inspired project, there’s always at least one issue to deal with which the TH-camr cannot possibly predict because every house/situation is different. DIY certainly builds one’s problem-solving skills and subsequently confidence levels which is one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.

I notice they say this in the description for that product: “Disclaimer: The pergola cannot be permanently staked. This is a temporary structure and not suitable for long-term or permanent use.”. What’s your view on this given that it’s clearly designed to be permanently staked! It looks to me from your video like it’d last as a permanent structure. What’s your thoughts having set it up? What are your thoughts on it now it’s been up for a while?
What happens to rainwater with these, where does it drain to?
Is it noisy when it rains?
    Great video
