Great job looks good, just a wee tip when fixing the timber to masonry walls it’s a good idea to put a DPM (plastic barrier) on the wood face that’s against the wall to stop any moisture getting into the wood causing it to rot quicker
Hi Jack, I wonder if you might be so kind to give even more advice on this. For me, the house is dashed. Will this be a problem? I don't want water seeping down the wall and/or staining? Would there be any kind of soft foam type stuff I could put between the wood and the dashed wall that would fill all the little gaps between the dash stones etc?

@@pigmintfilm256 I would use flashing between the wood and dashing, thick enough to mould to the dashing, hope that helps.
You can also put washers between the wood and wall so the wood stands off the wall a few mm to allow any rain moisture to run down the back.

This time I will do it manually with the help of Woodglut designs.
Top tip for anybody else doing this. Paint your timber first when it’s on the ground. Saves time and hassle.

Great job. Stick a rain water gutter / down spout and collection barrel on then put on some clear corrugated sheets and cover the space for year round all weather seating area. Looks great, well done.

Tip for fixing timber battens (or posts) to a wall. Fix at one end then level across and fix at the other end, then drill and screw all the way along. Saves trying to keep level while trying to mark multiple holes. 👍

Or when you are alone, just do the middle one, then level and keep going (do most of my stuff alone)

Brilliant video and looks great! Im going to do similar and paint anthracite myself. Also thinking of decking the floor but i dont want to get giddy as I always under estimate the amount of work in these sort of projects lol! So a job for another day.

You are a legend, so I have just started building a pergola, although with a solid roof, think it is still called a pergola, and I used your masking tape method to mark the holes when attaching to the wall, not something I have ever thought off but makes it so much easier, keep up the good work and thanks for the great idea 😊😊

Great video shade. Looking to do something similar up here in Scotland even if it is going to be going up in autumn/winter ha! Im looking at using perhaps those rolls of bamboo or a clear perspex on top of pergola for a little bit of rain cover. The bamboo roll would look better and keep out a bit of rain. But the perspex sheet would make it rain proof but might discolour a little over time/attract algae etc.

I want a pizza thingy too! And a first coat of primer paint on bare wood will likely just need one finish coat after final assembly. Great presentation overall. Beautiful results!
