Agreed, an amazing player decades ahead of his time and lit up the 1970 tournament. If you watch the whole of the 1970 final though he didn't have a great game...losing possession many times, slipping on the heavy pitch and skying many shots. It's a funny old Game, Saint.

This is one of the best compilations I've seen. I'm too young to have ever seen him live. I never knew players of such quality, tenacity and speed were playing back then - he was incredibly ahead of his time. It's absolutely terrifying to think that Brazilians and experts rate Pelé even higher than Rivellino after watching this - he must have been a monster.
My dad took me to see him playing a few times at Maracanã stadium. He moved to Rio to play for my team, Fluminense in 1974 and won the state championship a few times. They call that team “The Machine”. I was 10 years old and I will never forget how good he was. You don’t see those surgical 60 yd passes very often and his skills with the ball are so impressive. He had a powerful left foot, but could play well with the right as well. A very complete player.

"Cabuya" is like a cord or string in English. The thing is that, it looks like if you pulled the ball with a cord.

No man, what you call the elastic was no invented by Rivelino. I've been around for a while and we used to practice that play when I was young. We called it in spanish, " la jugada de la cabuya". "Cabuya" is like a cord or string in English. The thing is that, it looks like if you pulled the ball with a cord.
