Would you like to see a "When Was Pelé in his Prime?" video!?
Of course, please. Bring the King Pelé in his prime.
Rivelino tried but couldn't find anything to make fun of Pelé. He looked for some weakness in the King to make a joke. However, he had to settle with reality. And according to Rivelino's own words, the reality was: "Pelé did everything in football very well. He headed well, kicked well with his right leg, easily kicked with his left, dribbled well, passed well, was strong, defended, he was complete. There was no negative point I could mention."
So, not having anything to say about the King, Rivelino went up to Pelé himself and said, "Hey, bro, you wanted to be left-handed, didn't you?" Haha.
In this video, Rivelino gets emotional when talking about Pelé.
th-cam.com/video/3Db6ju8mFDo/w-d-xo.html
The 1970 Brazil team had fantastic stars from midfield to the front in their starting lineup. They were Gerson, Rivelino, Jairzinho, Pelé, and Tostão. In this video, Rivelino reminisces about plays that Pelé made on the field that these stars couldn't see. In other words, Pelé's thinking was different from the other stars. To summarize, Rivelino comments something like this in a part of the video: "I wasn't stupid, Gerson wasn't stupid, Tostão wasn't stupid, yet Pelé was light-years ahead of us."
He was very good player, but not better than Pele! Pele was number one!
@@maxoguz7400 Of course. Pele is the only one in the world that won 3 world cup. Only he. He was good in everything.
Why? The answer is as long as he was active 😊
Kidding aside, bring it on please!
@@osark2487 Oh yes. Zagallo is a f** legend. I mean as a player, the only won that achieve 3 world cups was Pele.

Finally someone putting credit to his name. This player was unbelievable. Maradona had the same style.
LOL!....Maradona
@@wilbertkendal2524yeah Maradona.. The most gifted player the world has ever seen. Not the greatest but gifted
He was nothing like Maradona.
I endorse this video
I had the honor, luck and pleasure of seeing this genius play for my team, Fluminense, live at Maracanã Stadium, for 3 years and several matches. The best player in the history of Fluminense.
As a Brazilian, I recommend for you to make a video about Tostão. He was an amazing player that played for Cruzeiro. One of the fewest team, with tostão, that beat Santos with Pele to win the Brazilian championship in 1966. One of the best players that Brazil had.
I remember that great Brazil team.
Rivelino was a wonderful player. Certainly better than Maradona or Messi, but it's not possible to compare with the King. Pelé is incomparable.
@listohombre better than Maradona or messi Jesus christ you scream of delusion 😅

The 1970 Brazilian team that won the World Cup, was without any doubt the greatest team ever to play in the World Cup finals. They were absolutely majestic. The last goal by Carlos Alberto, in Brazil's win against Italy, was a team goal of outstanding brilliance.
Lol they would get smacked by modern day Burnley, pipe down
@@Eizengoldtanother clueless gen zero
But 4 years later they were just a shadow of themselves.
Best Brazil team ever imho the 1982 team around Zico and Socrates.
They failed because of arrogance and Paolo Rossi.
Undoubtedly they were fantastic
@@GuinessOriginal okay boomer
I still remember seeing the 1970 team on a fuzzy back and white tv. The skill level across the whole team was amazing.
Rivellino is still an icon in Saudi Arabia. One of the first international stars who made their way into the Saudi League. Many Al Hilal players have anecdotes about his work ethic, wherein they would feel ashamed to be head home after training to see Revillino: A World Champion in the twilight of his career, with nothing left to prove and far more skilled and experienced that anyone in the league, still out practicing free kicks well into the night. His influence (as well as Mario Zagallo's tenure as Saudi Coach from 1981 to 1984) imparted a Brazilian flair to Saudi Arabia's golden age from their 1984 AFC Asian Cup win till their triumphant 1994 World Cup Appearance.
I had no idea Saudi Arabia has a golden generation , it's great to hear the connection with Rivellino
@@blaquenguni9249Neither did they
As a left footed midfielder back in the day I was influenced by Roberto,Wimbledon van Hanegem and Wolfgang Overath.
I traveled 13,000 km (8,000 miles) by train in and through 25 US states in 30 days (plus 6 flights and 12 more days before and after the 1994 World Cup in L.A. and NYC) to follow my team, Sweden. I saw our future bronze medal winners beat Saudi Arabia outside Dallas in the 1/8 final at the Cotton Bowl, 3-1 (and I had my first ever chili cheese ball, homemade...you had to buy one to buy a mug of beer at 5 bucks or whatever, and I juz loved those little spicy things that you nowadays can get at any Burger King or that other famous burger chain...).
Afterwards, I changed tshirts with one of a whole group of Saudi college student at a motel. They were all very proud of their team, despite the loss. They probably got even prouder watching us take our first medal (beating Bulgaria, 4-1, in the bronze game) since we lost the 1958 final back home in Stockholm between Sweden and Brazil, who never had won before. But in Stockholm 1958 (before my time) they did for the first time, 5-2 despite a 1-0 lead for us after 5 minutes...

@@Ramblin-Man That's a really nice story. It's sad to me that thinking back, that wuld be the farthest we would ever make it in a world cup.
Rivellino was a fantastic player who will always be remembered as an integral member of the greatest football team ever ... Brazil 1970
I really liked how you braught attention to not only Rivelino as a player, but also the impact he had on the game. He was Maradona's inspiration, and though I knew he didn't invent the elastico I didn't know the original creator. I also didn't realize how Revilino pioneered that type of step over that Maradona made so famous to me. I cannot wait to see your other vids (particularly Diego Maradona!!)
Right on brother, as soon as a saw the title I thought to myself, Rivelino was the prototype for Maradona, fantastic player, left foot like a wand.
one thing i know is that most of the skills you be ronaldinnho was done by rivelino .. specially the flip flap

Not sure why you think he was overlooked. Pele took most of the headlines but Rivellino was most definitely appreciated by the world of football when he was playing and is still revered as one of the stand out performers of ''that'' 1970 team.

I couldn't agree more he was a great player
The Brazil team of 1970 is without doubt the greatest football team of all time, club or international. That front 5 of Jairzinho, Rivellino, Pele, Gerson and Tostao were the greatest combined front 5. Ever.
Yes!
Equal with Hungary '54 and Brazil '58.
@@gunternetzer9621 both brilliant teams in 1954 and 1958, and maybe with more tv exposure could have been in the same bracket of the Brazil team of 1970. Hungary should have won the world cup in 1954, but nothing will ever rival the 1970 Brazil team. Everyone remembers Pele, Jairzinho and Rivellino, but for me Gerson and Tostao were amazing and didn't get the recognition they should have got because of the other 3. All 5 were magnificent
@johnsmeaton2485 I didn't know Manchester City play a World Cup.
I agree!
I've been waiting ages for a channel with this type of content that also covers less mainstream players. Thank you and please keep it up!
Wonderfully exciting player skills. Was an integral part of the 1970 Brazilian team. Greetings from England.
This channel is a Hidden Gem
I was born in only 78, so I had to dig out these old games to actually see these guys, as well as Rivelino, I was hugely impressed with Tostao and Gerson as well. I think sometimes those two guys are easily missed. Tostao especially was mad talented.
Every Brazilian team is judged by the 1970s one. I was born early enough to see them in action . Everyone of those players were amazing.
Expect the keeper Felix. He was terrible

I have now watched all of your videos and I cannot say anything besides; your channel is amazing. I cannot even fathom the research you go through, your attention to detail is out of this world. I rarely comment on videos but I had to bless the algorithm.
Please keep doing these, they're the best player biographies I have ever seen.
Rivellino was absolutely brilliant. I was a child and collected stickers of Rivellino. Cape Town♥️♥️
The beginning of something great
I learned about Revellino from conversations in my home land Jamaica. I was born in 1970, and Revillino was still a household name when I was in my teens. In my hometown Montego Bay, there was a dribbling move that was named after him. Either it was invented by him or he made it famous.
Rivelino was an elegant and exceptional player. Along with Pelé, Jairzinho and Tostao, he formed the Greatest ever ATTACKING Quartet in Football history ⚽
Gerson was the architect
The research, the narration and the way of presenting.. all very elegant and class. Thank you sir.

By the way, I think it would be nice to show how they are now, what they're doing or just some bits of a video or pictures. Rivellino is still alive and has often gives some interviews; still a level headed and nice guy.
Excellent video. Rivellino, Tostão, Gérson, Jairzinho, Dirceu Lopes, Ademir da Guia and him, his majesty, the king Pelé. All hyper-talented midfielders playing at the same time in top Brazilian clubs, during the second half of the 60’s and first half of the 70’s. If they played today, all these players would be total protagonists in top European teams. No wonder that, in a space of 12 years, between 1958 and 1970, Brazil won 3 World Cups. This is proof that, in those days, the best football in the world was played in Brazil, by Brazilian players.
Most under rated player ever.
Hagi, Scifo, von Basten, Rummenigge.....
No ! The most underrated is Cubillas from Peru.
This is a great channel keep up these vids really interesting and well put together
The only memories I had of him was his 1974 world cup game against Tunisia,
His name was all over the streets of Algeirs
I was 8, and I found his looks impressive .
Thank your for honoring this great athlete.
His hot trick was later picked up by an Algerian international player called Assad, he used it against German defense in 1982 .
The trick was dubbed in Algeria " Assad's dipper "
and no one has ( dared) to attributed it to Revilino.
Thank you for revealing it.
I don't think Tunisia were in the '74 World Cup, were they?
Fabulous video. He was in fact my idol as a kid, my favourite player of that 1970 WC. I was 6.
I don't know how long I have been looking for this video thx bro
Once upon a time a football played by true rebels and braves men , that time has gone , but the remembrances of those days are still keeping alive in videos like this !
As a kid growing up in the 70s & 80s, the Brazil teams that I started off watching (the 1978 World Cup is the first one I watched) were mesmerising to me. Those players from the late 70s - early 80s were probably my favourite Brazilians ever, and Rivellino is probably top of my list......But others such as Zico, Eder, and Dirceu made that era of Brazil sides the best for me.
Historically, they always my second team in the World Cups whenever England got knocked out, these days I don't enjoy watching them at all 😆
The Samba football died the day Italy knocked Brazil out of the 82 World Cup. Magicians like Eder, Socrates and Zico replaced with cloggers like Dunga. They have been no fun to watch ever since.
@@garethjenkins6273 I totally agree with you mate. I used to love watching them play, but nowadays I refuse to watch them....especially the divers like Neymar. He probably wouldn't make the early 80s team.
@@garethjenkins6273 I certainly agree about Samba dying out after '82...The zeal still remained though, in '86. Problem is: Brazil for some reason was producing less and less geniuses and having more pragmatic European-style coaching didn't help matters much...I was in complete shock when Paolo Rossi scored those hat trick goals, haunting me for years to come. Much later i was convinced the football world had lost much of its magic.
Wow, don't think I had ever heard of him...I think I recognize him from multiple doc about the Brazil teams of that era but nothing else. Brilliant video this.
Keep up the good work.. great content
Thank you for the video, I had not heard of him.

Tqvm for the video. There were so many great Brazilians like the Santos brothers, Pele of course, Didi, Gilmar, 'little bird' Garrincha, Tostao, Jairzinho, Gerson, Carlos Alberto, the Zico, Eder, Marinho,...to Romario, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo. The list is endless. But if I had to pick one as a fan, I would plump on Roberto Rivelino, the most combative and creative midfielder any time, any where. Used to search for bits and scraps of news of him in the early 70s. It would be nice to have some updates of him now.

That 1970 world cup team was no joke great team
If you watch the 1970 world cup final against italy, he was the playmaker, he build up the game, was accepted as such from his teammates. he was a regista.
I loved watching that 1970 Brazil team live at that fantastic world cup as a child in Primary school. Rivellino was a reserve to Edu who played alongside Pele at Santos. However, Rivellino was the best Dribbler in a team of world-class dribblers and had to be included in that Awesome team. They had 5 Number 10s in Pele, Tostao, Jairzinho, Gerson, and Rivellino, who all sacrificed to become a complete and dominant team. The one-touch passing in that team was off the chart, and they scored 19 goals in 6 games with 7 players scoring at least one goal.
Rivellino was overnight everyone's favorite player because of his lethal Left Foot shot.
Yeah..he is good..especially power shoot..GOAT
