    • @bugattikid2012
      @bugattikid2012 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm looking at purchasing it, but I've got a few questions about it. What is the maximum width object that this mic can clip on to?
      To put it another way, if I wanted to clip this onto the under side of my desk which is 3/4", would it clamp onto it?
      Also secondary stupid idea I have: If I wanted to clip this to my shirt, could I?
      And finally if I had this mic ontop of my monitor on the normal carteroid setting, could I configure the volume properly to pickup my voice which would be 2 feet away without picking up too much of my mechanical keyboard?
      Thanks.

    • @Steggy
      @Steggy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
      1. I no longer have this mike as it was on loan from Samson for the review, but I remember it not being that wide of a gap, so I don't think this would work on your desk.
      2. You technically could but considering the weight of the mic is so light, I'm sure you'd have an issue of it not staying in place when you have the cord and everything hooked up.
      3. Blocking out mechanical keyboards is an issue for even mics that cost hundreds of dollars. While I wasn't able to test this on hand way back when, I'd bet that the sounds would show up. :(

    • @bugattikid2012
      @bugattikid2012 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much for your reply! I figured it would pickup the keyboard but I was hoping that it would be incredibly quiet, and it is my understanding that it should be if I turn the mic to the -10db setting and put it directly beside my mouth.
      Do you have any other mic suggestions or ideas? Thanks very much!

  • @BlackKnight156
    @BlackKnight156 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @BlackKnight156 My bad I was wrong. If you are going to use this mic for commentating you will want to use the -10db setting. You will need a pop filter to filter out plosives/wind from your voice/ and clipping because you have to be close to the mic while using the -10db setting. This mic is great by itself, but with a couple add ons it is fantastic and is a worthy competitor to the Blue Snowball Microphone. Hope this helped anyone who was looking to purchase this mic.

    When I replaced my monitor recently I found that the new slimline monitor (from Acer) was thin enough to clip the microphone on top. This was much more convenient than the old setup where I had the mic free-standing on top of a cloth duster on a pile of old cassette boxes next to the monitor, and had to lean over to speak into it!

  • @Steggy
    @Steggy  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry for the long delay in response, I hadn't seen this comment before. The problem with your suggestion is that if you recorded everything normally using cardoid, then lowered the gain -10db in post, while the background noise would go down, so would your voice too. The point of having the -10db setting when it's recorded is so you can get up close and personal with the mic so your voice is at a normal level and the background noise is lowered. 1/2

    Just got my Go Mic a couple of days ago and just now playing with it. All the HUGE positive customer ratings and hurrah's sold me on it! I just recorded two feet away on the uni-directional setting and lowered the mic sensitivity some to shed some background noise and its GREAT! Your right on the -10db setting. It needs a pop filter which I will make myself on the cheap - a 3 to 4 inch pop filter should do the trick for such a small mic. This little dinky mic is a giant in quality.

    Just purchased this mic..Great buy for under 40.00..Playback is very clean on the first 2 settings but picks up a lot of atmosphere on the 3rd. I use more expensive mics and equipment in my home studio that I use for recording guitar tracks at but this little mic holds it's own.. Great for on the road..Still can't believe the quality of sound that I get on playback from this little mic.

    For a cheap pop filter on this mic, put a sock over a pencil holder (there were metal mesh ones at the dollar store not long ago), then just place it over the mic. I just sit the mic down in my padded mini-studio box (it sits on thick but soft foam and doesn't move, like it did on your hard/smooth desk top) and place the pencil holder over it. You can put as many socks over the pencil holder as you like until you get the sound or "filtering" that you want.

    As someone who creates / narrates videos and also hosts a podcast, this was an outstanding review. You covered all of the bases really well. I have an Audio-Technica AT2020, but needed a mic that will pick up omin-directional sound for when I do face-to-face interviews. Thanks for making sure to cover that part, as it seems this mic will definitely do the trick!

    As a first-time prospective voice microphone buyer I found that this review answered all my questions about it. The -10dB really sounds the best too, kinda surprising but that seems to be the reality anyhow. Might settle for this one and a mini tripod with or without puff adapter, I'll just consider maybe going slightly up the price ladder to the C01U.

    I’m a professional engineer, but I use this mic on my traveling laptop because it’s cute, fun, and useful for both speech AND conference room recordings. It’s a nifty unit for people who want to fashionably upgrade from their computer’s internal mic. It will not have a Howard Stern deep-voice studio sound, but it is nice and clear. I’m actually curious to see how it would do on a female Soprano voice, with a good pop filter on it. Could be an excellent start for a young girl who can sing in that range.

  • @Steggy
    @Steggy  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    2/2 If you ended up trying to be up close to the mic during the cardoid setting, your voice would be too hot, which causes clipping. Now, with a more expensive microphone, you could have the best of both worlds if you had cardoid with a low pass filter on, but unfortunately it's a bit hard to get at the low price point and diminutive size that the samson go mic provides, so we have to make do with a little mcguyvering.

    This is a solid review. Seems like the base needs to be heavier and needs a higher frictional coefficient. I wonder if the rubber grips on the bottom of the base are any good? If they slide like that, you might want to think about placing the base on some high-friction surface like a rubber mousepad or something similar...

    How far open does the clip go? I would need 1.5cm of width for my PC monitor.

    is there any way to clip this to your shirt or anything like that? I dont really want to buy a stand just for this small mic. I mean its good and all but a stand for that size can be hard to find.

    Make one, its light and small enough for you to piece a few things together to make one.

    For my microphone that I have on an arm, a normal "proper" microphone, I have a dead cat on it. I got the microphone very cheap, and didn't have a normal pop filter for having it on an arm, and the dead cat works great, and it takes less space than a pop filter, and is lighter as it's just some fake fur. You can get some of this fur and just cut off enough to have it around this thing and that's it. And it looks better :P and tickles if you are too close.
