Ultra Portable: The Samson Go Mic is really meant for people who travel a lot and need a recording microphone when traveling. Its compact size makes it very ideal for traveling podcasters, journalists, vloggers or people who need an exceptionally-good microphone for Skype. However, that's not to say that it isn't useful for everyone else. The Samson Go Mic is a great microphone for anyone looking to record great sound directly to their computer.
Forget the Pre-Amp at Home: If you are a person who travels a lot, then you'll certainly appreciate the feeling of forgetting something at home. The only difference with the Samson Go Mic is that you can actually afford to forget your Pre-Amp or Phantom power at home and not worry about being unable to record. The Go Mic plugs directly into the USB port of your computer and is pretty much plug and play with both Mac or PC. There are no drivers required.
Amazing Sound, Period: During the course of our review of the Samson Go Mic, we found that the little Samson offered the best sound quality of any microphone in its class. The Go Mic has three recording modes (Cardioid, -10dB Cardioid and Omni-directional). The -10dB cardioid setting produces the clearest and warmest recording quality. But that's not to say that the other two modes are bad. The other two modes also offer sound quality that meets and exceeds the quality of any microphone at that price point.
The Final Verdict: At the price (about $40) you definitely cannot go wrong. The Samson Go Mic is an extremely portable microphone packed with lots of nifty little features and exceptional sound quality. We are extremely pleased by the performance of the little Samson Go Mic.

This microphone is also great for recording music on the keyboard midi system, on an acoustic level if you are in a small, padded room. in -10db of course. I use Magix studio and Audacity.
I'm happy I found this review when I did. I'm in the market for a better quality microphone, I've been recording using a gaming headset a friend gave me, but I just can't afford the ones worth hundreds of dollars that most people say are the best options.

It should. But make sure to set the input gain levels as high as possible on the recording software or computer sound settings.

You can do this using Quicktime on your Mac, if you want to use the webcam on your Macbook Pro. Open Quicktime, then click on the menu item on the top left of your screen, "File", and then click on "New Movie Recording" from the drop-down menu. This sounds great, and that you can place it on top of your monitor makes it excellent in use for what I have in mind (two friends I play with that has crap sound from their microphone :P). Thanks for the test, it's very useful :)
For some reason, mine didn't come with cable clip and nut, not really a big enough reason to return, so I kept it. Thanks for the review btw, I couldn't tell which button was for cardiod pattern and was recording with omnidirectional whole time lol.

When I connect my headphones to the mic, will I be able to hear myself in the headphones as well as whatever is playing on the PC (backtrack, game, etc.) as well? I have closed headphones and without the monitoring function I would barely hear what I'm saying when playing games.

When I plug in my Samson Go Mic into its USB slot on my computer, it cuts off the sound on my video. I cannot get sound from my computer while having the mic plugged in. what is the problem?
Jes Esteban Once the mic is plugged in: If you are on Windows, go into your Control Panel. Look for "Hardware and Sound" and click on it. Then click on the "Manage Audio Devices" button and a window will open. Under the "Playback" tab select your speaker as the default playback device. This should fix it.

I'm having a trouble here. I can see the green LED ON, but the microphone isn't detected at any software! Any idea ?
7amido's Art Go to your computer's audio settings and choose the Samson Go Mic as your input device. Control Panel- Hardware and Devices- Sound- Manage Audio Devices. Hope that helps.

+Tekniik No effects were applied in audacity. The audio you're hearing is the raw audio from the mic.

Technically you can, but the audio quality will be pretty bad. Additionally, you'll need a means to power the mic through a usb, even when used with a DSLR.

HELP! Hello. GREAT review! Help needed, I bought the Go Mic and hooked it up to an older laptop. Big, problem, the volume of my audio in a Skype conversation of Making a Screen Capture recording is very low. Any specific coaching for me? Very frustrating! I have already gone into Sounds in the control panel and set things to where they should be, to no avail.

i bought a samson go mic today and it came along with a cakewalk music creator LE 5 cd.. i inserted the cd in the computer but it doesn't even read and i can't record anything because i don't have the software to do so.. how can i get my computer to read the CD so i can start recording /
We would not recommend using Cakewalk. Our recommendation is to use Audacity. Its a free recording software. Here is the link audacity.sourceforge.net/

Simon Edward Not really. Unless you can find software that will instantly output recordings from your computer to an external speaker. Its mostly meant to be a recording device.
