Another easy tell is that the SH does not have a third brake light inside the rear window. That's because all SH models had the rear spoiler, which contained the third brake light. If you (like me) buy a Prelude without a spoiler and there's no place for an interior third brake light, you probably got a Type SH. The VIN is just easy confirmation
Awesome will do that 👍. I’m pretty sure mine is a base. No spoiler came as a automatic, and no atts. Had a 5 speed swapped in. Luckily whoever did the swap. Knew what they were doing. I paid 900 bucks and drove it home 😂. It’s become me and my fiancés project car. We have so much fun working on it 😊 it’s a dream to work on.
you can run any H transmission with an SH block , you just need an adapter plate to be able to bolt the stock H halfshaft. I had a long ratio accord trans on my sh block
That makes sense!! So that means, the only issue is deleting ATTS and mounting the halfshaft 🤔🤔🤔 does that mean that a SH tranny can bolt up to a base block as well???
If you want to remove all the oil from a engine or transmission you can use Easy off but just use one time if you use too much when the aluminum is already is going to get a dark color 👍😊
thanks for the bro-tip! That purple power might be just as bad but I kept it wet by spraying more and more while cleaning and then rinsed it with water. That purple power can eat through aluminum as well
I really am not sure what version of prelude I have it’s a fifth gen It has a manual swapped into it. Luckily it was done right but it doesn’t have a spoiler on the rear. It’s a 1998.
I wish I known about this 3yrs ago but no big deal just had to get atts block off plate to so I can mount halfshaft with a non atts trans h22a4 (obd2). Now I have a atts unit & trans just sitting hear next to my jdm h22a block smh🤯. Proud 3rd gen Prelude owner 😎..
Thanks bro!!!! And congrats on them eyelids! It seems like they're hard to find nowadays, be sure to put some weight on those eyelids and let it sit over night, that way the double sided tape will bond effectively
Transmission looked good clean!😎👌When your engine valve is done with the paint stripper then sand the 320 grits with water then cleaned good on engine cover before starting to primer and paint it.
ahhhhh mannn, why didn't I see you comment before painting!?!?!? hahha, welll, it's already painted but I'm not too sure that I like the color I chose... might redo it :D
@@Rawrkee Damn, that’s alright. If your engine cover looks good then you don’t need to redo it. Reason is to sand 320 grits on engine cover to look smooth with new paint as looking neat.
I just ordered a used ATTS and transmission off of eBay (I need those ATTS sensors). Going to rebuild it with some carbon synchro's as my current trans doesn't shift well anymore. Keeping my Prelude as stock plus as anything more is really expensive. Mostly just my weekend cruiser and backup vehicle now.
@@rockeyvang1045 once you remove the four bolts mounting it to the block, pull it away from the block and then sideways. You can’t pull it out sideways from the transmission immediately, it’s gotta be pulled outward toward the intake first
Im currently doing the same clean up resto on my tranny. The power purple im using seems to not be so strong but its a couple years old. Maybe I need some new ones lol
yes bro, get a new one, that purple power is a game changer!!! It sped up the process significantly! Just be sure to keep spraying more and rinse it off with water, you don't want the purple stuff to dry on aluminum
Thanks bro!!! and yeah man, all my motor swapping options are expensive since I can't just swap in a different block.. or I think I can.. judging from some of the comments on this vid idkk
@@Rawrkee Yeah. My car was an H22A4 to start. It runs a blue top H23 vtec now. Been really thinking about k swapping but i have a soft spot for H motors haha
Hey bro is it weird doing a h22a swap to h23a lol I got it swapped on my lude years ago debating of going back to the h22a thanks for the knowledge !! Keep hustling!!!
I'm not too familiar with their differences. From what I understand, the H23 has a lower redline at 7200 and has a smaller intake/throttle body. You can save the headache of swapping motors by just upgrading the intake and throttle body but you'll still have the lower redline. It just depends on your future plans of the motor. if you swap the motor, it'll be a great excuse to deep clean the engine bay as I did hahah
@@Rawrkee They’re pretty neat anyways. Does yours have the 4WS system in it? I’m not too worried about ATTS but 4WS seems pretty awesome! Wish there were more ways to beef up the suspension on a Prelude for cheap. Seems the only way is coilovers
@@TorbCraft nahhh, I'm not sure if the 5th gen has 4WS?? not in the states at least but that would be soooo cool to drive!! hahaha and yeah man, well, S1built now has that bolt on AWD kit 👀👀👀
Yessir i I have an Sh just no ATTS anymore. wasn't difficult to remove since I pulled the block and trans together with the ATTS attached. Probably could have reused the SH trans too without the ATTS but I had a 4th gen trans with a quaife LSD. But if you wanted to remove the ATTS while the engine is in the car its only 4 bolts if I remember correctly. You'll have to loop the coolant or oil (can't remember which they were) lines.
the easiest way to tell if you have a base or an sh is check vin for 614 for base and 615 for sh

mine doesnt have either of those on the vin

Dont worry about the SH, you just need to do shaft adapter, if anything the SH is great value for the $

Which one is better the sh or the base model h22 engine ?
go with the base model
there is a plate you can use for type sh convert to the transmission
