There could be only a few causes for smoke from the tail pipe, leaking valve seals/valve seats, oil getting past the oil control rings, or there's some coolant pushing past the head gasket. Either or, you should have it fixed in no time, I mean you've taking the head apart before. Just start by running the simple diagnostic first like checking your oil for milky residue, check your coolant over flow if its filling up or bubbles in the resivoir, then just a simple compression check would find out if your head or piston rings is leaking. I'm no mechanic by no means.. but I've been down this road plenty of time with my f23a/f22a accord. But good luck my Asian brotha.

I did a fresh rebuild and my rings were settle in quick, I don't think it should smoke like that. Looks like your valves are leaking from the seals or seats. If it was the rings, the smoke should be darker, almost a blueish tint to it..

How did you hone the cylinders when you rebuilt it? FRM sleeves aren't the same as others and have to be done a specific way. You may be getting oil past your rings now.
what's honing? 😂😂😂 nah I didn't touch the walls, all I did was an engine refresh. Only thing I replaced in the block were the piston rings, crank bearings, rod bearings, and oil pump but I'm pretty sure I know what the issue is :D
Matt is on to something. When my prelude burnt a valve recently i was forced to dump it as i was halfway across country. The honda techs and dealer salesmen all were assuring me there was nothing i could really do as the fiber cylinder walls always went out. Bad design really, best bet would be to put new iron cylinder liners but that would be expensive. Maybe do a f23 block with h22 head as you would probably be able to do it cheaply and you have the know how. Just need to do some head work and find k22 pistons to make it work with the f23 block. But those blocks are better than the h22 blocks. Im sure someone can chime in on this. That combo is known as g23 engine. I saw dyno results were 212 hp and good torque too with some minor mods. That combo would not burn oil at all like our h22 with terrible cylinder liners
@@Nubsanders I've built a "G23" using a f23 block and h22 head. If he went that route, it wouldn't be hard since he already has an h22 to get the necessary parts. The h22 would have been an even better motor and probably would have ended up getting the same support as most of the others if it didn't have the FRM sleeves.

yoooooo i'm in the middle of swapping in a JDM F20B (auto) and not having any issues (yet) since both engines are on stands, however, it is a JDM swap and i'm going around trying to gather helpful tips/tricks anyone with experience may have to offer. So far we got the dist/ecu harness/oil pump/in.mani/and crank sensor transferred over... BTW your content is genuine and lit my brother keep it up!! WooOOooo!! Love the progress on your build, mad respect
Shame about the smoke, it's never a sight you want to see. I had a similar issue on my 5th gen but only at high rpm. Before you start taking the motor apart do a compression test. If it's got good compression then it's most likely your valve seals. Bad compression means piston rings. Fingers crossed for you it's not the latter 🤞

Hey bro I'm a new subscriber and I love the Lude, I got one too it's a 01 and it's blue I love her a lot but your problem could becoming from the O ring gaskets I think I had a problem like this
the machine shop put in aftermarket valve seals and that was causing the oil to leak into the headers. I replaced them with OEM seals and now we're gucci! :D
Sorry for the late reply, I recommend getting a camshaft tool to help hold the cams in position because it can be tricky getting everything in time, especially if this is your first attempt. Good luck!
bro everything was brand new the valves had a lil lubricant (thats what it seems like) sooo regular for it to be smoking a lil let it burn some gas and oil think that should do the trick

Disable your distributor by unplugging the two connectors on it. Then crank the engine 3-5 times, give it a rest, do it another 3-5 times. Go a third round if you’d like. U should be ready to go then. Best of luck!
@@Rawrkee Hi, on some vehicles flooring the gas pedal when cranking the engine over shuts off the fuel injectors. Do you know if it applies to the Prelude? Just thought that might be an alternative way.

yes bro! I've pushed the prelude up into the garage with no issue before but this time, I guess I was feeling confident and got a little ahead of myself 😅 and hell yeah! The prelude is almost, ALMOST done! I've fixed a big issue and now I just need to take my time reassembling again haha

it's important to make sure they do a 3 angle valve job because most places will do a 2 angle job
