Thanks for taking the time to review it, it was very helpful! I'm thinking I'll but it and grab some 3d models and try my hand at printing my army, cheers!

I enjoyed the review. The sound leaves much to be desired something louder would be nice.

@@prasutagustheorwellwargamer Your sound is very low, especially related to other videos, games and media, during your game review, and then gets better when you switch to reviewing the scenario later. During your review, I had to max out both my PC and TH-cam sound settings to get it to a normal level. I was able to notch it back down a bit when you started the scenario. When done with the overall video, I needed to remember to lower my PC volume before proceeding to avoid getting blasted! One other point, when you do show your based figures, I would suggest putting them on a darker tabletop with more foreground lighting - the white top reflected quite a bit from some light source in the rear (a window?), tending to silhouette the figures, making them a bit hard to see and washing out colors. Good review of a great rules system, by the way, so found it worth pushing through the sound challenge.

Thanks for the review! so interesting that cavalry can't be dismounted, curious to read greg's reasons. I assume its to keep the game moving. Given Greg's passionate historical research, would love to here how he handles day one at Gettysburg......

Thanks for your kind words, glad you enjoyed the review...of course you can house rule anything you want to change in a particular scenario. :) cavalry gets the benefit of a special scouting action so this does give them a useful purpose. Likewise you could stat them as dismounted infantry at the outset of an action. Still a great set of rules. Enjoy!

Afaik the main reasons that cavalry can’t dismount are:
      1) your an army commander and so are probably not decided when cavalry are mounting or dismounting so it’s just assumed that their brigade commander is using the most optimal stance
      2) a turn represent an hour (or up to 3 hours if using fast play) so the cavalry are probably mounting and dismounting over the course of a turn

Great review! I really like your dismounted cavalry house rule. What scale are the figures you used for the Battle of Seven Pines at the end of this review? They look amazing!
I am considering Warlord Games Epic Battles American Civil War line, which are 13.5mm with 20 figures in two ranks on a 20x60mm base. Do you think this game would work well at that scale, or is 6mm really the way to go when using the Altar of Freedom rules and scenarios? Does Wagman provide scale charts for configuring the game for miniatures larger than 6mm or would you have to work that out on your own? I counted eighteen stands of infantry plus five divisional artillery stands, three division/corps command stands, and an army commander stand for the Confederates at the Battle of Seven Pines. Is this an average-sized battle? How many stands does a large battle like Gettysburg require?

Hi Jonathan thanks for your kind comments. I'm glad you enjoyed the review:) the figures for seven pines are 6mm baccus.....AOF are rules agnostic so no problem with the scale and base sizes you are considering, just ensure both sides are the same. Your bases will be very close in size to mine also. Re AOF lists and scenarios, Greg has two books comlimenting the rules which give the scenarios for many battles with lists of divisions and their brigades. These are available by pdf via wargames vault and you can then print the specific list as needed. Again a brigade is one base, size your choice. In the scenario book for example gettysburg is a large scenario and you would need 50 or so bases representing brigades for the union alone. Hope this helps all the best james

Any way you can turn up your volume when recording? I'm a bit hard of hearing, and your sound is very quiet, even when I have you at 100.
